"Don’t worry about where to tether your horse: The Rattlesnake Saloon has hitching posts. Located in a huge natural rock shelter in the Appalachian foothills of northwest Alabama, the Rattlesnake Saloon delivers old-fashioned Western charm in a stunning natural environment. While the cave site is currently full of burger-slinging, beer-drinking, and line dancing, its proximity to one of Alabama’s most important archaeological sites means it may once have housed some of the state’s original inhabitants: Paleolithic Native Americans.  Nowadays, the Rattlesnake Saloon is part of the 20,000-acre Seven Springs Lodge resort complex owned and operated by the Foster family. The resort offers everything from bare-bones campsites to furnished cabins to grain silos converted into guest rooms. Visitors can also rent stalls for their horses, and, if they don’t have horses, they can rent those, too. By day, visitors roam the land on horseback or ATV. By night, they can hitch a ride on a converted pickup truck, called the Rattlesnake Taxi, to the saloon. The watering hole earned its serpentine moniker when construction workers found a nearby nest of rattlers during the bar’s construction. Besides its potential Paleolithic setting, the saloon has a quirky recent history. Family ancestor Willian Owen Foster originally decided that the natural rock shelter would make a perfect hog pen. According to the saloon’s website, Foster drilled a hole 33 feet through the bluff so he could slip feed to the hogs without having to walk all the way around the rock formation. When the family left the farming and timber business for hospitality, they decided to convert the hog pen into a saloon, which opened in 2009 after just 49 days of construction. (That 33-foot hole came in handy for running the modern electrical wiring.) Nowadays, locals and tourists come to the Rattlesnake Saloon for cornily-named (but tasty) bar food such as Bronco Bits (“tangy breaded and fried dill pickles”) and the Prairie Salad Sandwich (chicken salad with craisins and pecans on a roll). Brave visitors can order the Gigantor, a two-pound beef burger, which is free if you can finish it in under 45 minutes (no word on whether you have to finish the accompanying pound of fries). That, a cold beer, and an apple fritter, and you’ve got yourself a night—at least until the bar shuts down promptly at 10 p.m." - ATLAS_OBSCURA

My grandchildren and I took a minor detour to Rattlesnake Saloon on the way to Mississippi from Huntsville. I'm audio-sensitive and thought the music was too loud. The waitress offered to relocate us. My grandchildren were having a wonderful time and enjoyed the music so I endured it and declined her offer. We ordered chicken tenders, kids' burger meals with fries, and a drink. No complaints about the food from any of us. My grandchildren said we should detour there every time I get them. More than likely, we'll be back. Bring a tip for the driver, too. He'll appreciate it.

I saw a short video about this place on the internet and decided I wanted to check it out someday. Well after driving 6 hours from Florida, someday came. I was a bit skeptical when the GPS led me on some pretty rural roads to get out there, and the shuttle stop in the parking garage lot when I found it, but but I was not disappointed when I arrived at the cave. There was live music, and a nice atmosphere. The food was really good and a lot more reasonably priced than what I am used to on the Florida Gulf Coast. I could see this being a regular spot for me if I lived locally. They had a gift shop, art gallery and lodge that I did not go Into and they had several RV hook ups and horse stalls that you would have to call to get information about.

I had one of their burgers it was average but very big portions. The seating was old plastic chairs. It’s not a place to take your motorcycle to. You have to take a ride from the gravel parking lot to the restaurant. It’s. It an option. Very Dangerous to drive. But very cool to ride down the hill and see the area’s natural landscape and wildlife. They offer areas for your horses to stable. Trail riders paradise!

Google
This place is all about location. Out in the middle of nowhere and down in a holler, this place has a lot of charm. The menu is diverse to include vegetarian and carnivore choices. Make sure to go through the saloon doors to see the unique decor. Bring cash for the tailgate chauffeur "works for tips"

Google
We were recommended this place by a local. Kimd of out of the way but we'll worth the travel. The place looks amazing. The staff were very lovely and friendly. The food was amazing. We started with the Snake Eyes and Tails, and Bronco Bites. Both were cooked perfect. We both had the Duke burger. Man was that good. Definitely want to return at some point. If you are in the area make the trip.

Google
The Rattlesnake Saloon is a very cool bar/restaurant about 40 minutes north of Red Bay, AL. The Saloon is located in a giant cave so it’s really a hidden gem. They have your usual bar food options but I felt like the quality was better than most places. The service was very good, too. Wait staff was attentive and delivered food correctly and quickly. I had the Prarie Salad Sandwich which was fancy chicken salad with fried onion rings and for desert I had their Key Lime pie. It was all very good. The price was a little higher than other spots but the location, quality and service made up for it. The Rattlesnake Saloon is located on a piece of property that also offers RV camping and seems to cater to people with horses. And they have a neat little give shop and an artist who makes amazing wood carvings. Great place overall and well worth the drive.

Google
This is a very special place, and a one of a kind place. I don't know of any place like it. Having a restaurant/saloon under a hugh rockshelf... just none like it. This is definitely a must if you're in the area! The food is absolutely fantastic, and I promise you won't leave hungry. Definitely if you get a appetizer, meal, and dessert. The "Duke" (meal) was huge and would make most people full, but I recommend the "Loaded Hay Stack" (appetizer) with one of their desserts. And don't forget to hit the art shop and gift shop on your way out. You definitely want to get something to tell folks you have been to the "Rattlesnake Saloon". I totally 100% recommend this place to anyone and everyone!! A definite must stop place to see if nothing else.

Google
This is a gem of a place!! The atmosphere is splendid!! I know this is an unusual recommendation, but seriously go here when it’s pouring out! There’s a pretty waterfall! And while you’re sitting there it’s what I imagine it looks and feels like in the rainforest! Hanging flowers and vines. The food was good! Burgers and fries, deep fried cheese cake. All yummy! Free refills on drinks. Our waitress was a really nice gal! The view is really beyond description. You park in a parking lot then wait under a pick up by truck area. Which was really fun actually! The restaurant was very peaceful! I wouldn’t say it’s wheelchair friendly. Unless you’re super strong and can push them back up the twisty hill. When you’re done eating you can ask your waiter/ waitress and they will relay your request to go back to the parking lot by Walkie talkie. On your way back up, there’s a gift shop and across from that there’s a Native American art store. Has a bunch of carved stuff from wood. It’s beautiful!! All in all a wonderful day! I’m super glad we came! (We even had a bug pose for a photo op!)

Yelp
Amazing hidden treasure in northern Alabama. Beautiful scenery on the way to the saloon. Awesome truck ride down to the open air restaurant. Waitress was very helpful in suggesting what to order. And the burgers were FANTASTIC!! I can't wait to come out again.

Terrie C.

Yelp
A fun place to enjoy an unusual environment. The Rattlesnake Saloon is situated in a cave in the side of a mountain so the atmosphere is quite entertaining. This not an enclosed cave, more of a large opening that they have built in a saloon area where the food is prepared and the rest of the opening is a dining area with uplighting that accentuates the natural beauty of nature's work. To get to the cave, you park in a gravel lot and wait for the "taxi" which is a pick-up truck with easy to use steps leading to the bed where seats are on each side. The ride is fun and allows you to take in the beauty of the forest as you descend a steep road to the cave. Tips are strongly encouraged for the driver, but we were not prepared with cash, so it was a bit awkward climbing off without giving that tip. Once at a table, the menu is typical bar/saloon food and not anything special. I think that is very unfortunate, because with a great menu to match the environment, it would certainly be a truly special outing. That said, if you are expecting so-so food, but a very cool situation to eat it in, you will not be disappointed. Lastly, if it is cooler weather, be certain to dress for it. The cave is very, very cool when the sun goes down. I am happy we visited, but unlikely to go back again.

Jamie B.

Yelp
What an interesting place! I can quite honestly say I have never experienced anything like it! The truck ride down to the cave restaurant and back up was pretty insane but I imagine better than walking. We were seated immediately at 4:30 on a Saturday and knew we had to wait until 5:00 for beer to be served. Service was fast - food came out quick but both our dinners were lukewarm - I suppose what we paid was worth the experience but why not do better and serve better food if you're doing it anyway? One and done visit - everyone should visit once, just don't expect anything much!

Ruth M.

Yelp
Very cool place, a stunning place for a restaurant bar. The waitress was fast and efficient. The food was cold, dry and old.

Davey L. R.

Yelp
I am Davey L. Rich, the "Burger Man" from the Best Burgers in America Association out searching for the best burgers across the country... I was invited to this awesome place to score a burger for them, and they have a great-tasting burger. I scored their burger 8.5. The Manager, Nick, and his staff are awesome and friendly. If you have never been to Rattlesnake Saloon, you have to go and experience it at least once in your lifetime. It is a neat experience to add to your Bucket List. Thanks, Nick. Great Job!

Kevin B.

Yelp
What an awesome place not far from Tishomingo State Park! Food was good, service was great, and the view was amazing!

James S.

Yelp
To much hype. Interesting surroundings but the food was cold and unappetizing . The burger was dry as if sitting around for a while before being served. Wait staff was slow and not many people at the time we showed up. Bathroom had no paper towels to dry hands. Nope never again

Seth B.

Yelp
Definitely worth a try and a beautiful place to enjoy a lunch, dinner and live music. You will find bikers, Cowboys and girls, and tourists from all around as they take in this unusual dining experience Service was great and food was mediocre. Probably a little pricey for the quality and taste but we had a good time despite the food not being the best.

Andrea L.

Yelp
This restaurant made for such a fun girls day! We made the trip for the atmosphere more than anything and enjoyed sitting outside and watching the trucks take people un and down the hill. The food was common, hamburgers and hot dogs and such, but was very yummy! Service was quick and the waitress was pleasant. Definitely a place everyone should experience at least once!

Kayla S.

Yelp
The food was no better than fair food. The service is meh at best. I feel most people come for the experience. Parking was horrible in the sense that signage was not clear about the line to ride down verses walking.

Beth L.

Yelp
Located at the Seven Springs Lodge. When you arrive, it appears you're visiting a campground. Have no fear, you're in the right place. Park and wait for the "taxi" . This place is all about the atmosphere. The restaurant itself is in a cave with live music. It's a unique experience and definitely worth a visit. There's nothing "special" about the food, but decent otherwise. *They don't serve alcohol until 5pm.

Gavin C.

Yelp
We came here after a long day of Off Roading and this was exactly what we needed! The food was delicious, the fries were crispy, the drinks were so good and the band ? AMAZING we had to tip them because they were so talented! And the fact that the restaurant is in a cave makes it look so fancy and the purple and green lights that align the walls of the cave look so amazing and make you feel relaxed and at home. I wish we could come here again but we live in Ohio and are going back tomorrow. if I could give 10 stars, I would!

Monica N.

Yelp
Very fun and unique venue to check out! My family and I have wanted to visit for a while and it pretty much lived up to our expectations. For starters, once you drive up the long and winding road to the location, you'll need to park your vehicle and wait at a makeshift bus stop to be taken down to the "cavern" area. The truck drive down is a bit steep so just keep that in mind, especially if you're traveling with someone who uses a wheelchair or similar device (I'd assume an accommodation could be made by contacting management). The cavern area itself is pretty incredible! We dined at the tables under it which shaded us nicely from the May heat. There is also an attached enclosed dining space for guests who would prefer that atmosphere. I was very surprised that we didn't encounter that many bugs/flies outdoors! The food was better than I anticipated after reading other reviews, it's not 5-star gourmet but we were happy to dig into a pretty good cookout burger. I expected to get a Lay's bag of chips for a side, but was pleasantly surprised and enjoyed my home baked chips! My parents got the deep fried cheesecake, which I sampled as the photo shows - very sweet! Definitely a great summer vacation stop to visit, just be sure to check the weather the day of in case of rain or extreme heat.

Drew R.

Yelp
Amazing service really chill and easy going and food was the best food I have ever tasted in my whole life. Taking a bite in this food was like a warm hug from my grandma 10/10 would eat here again. ROLL TIDE

Pat B.

Yelp
This place is so unique. It's even prettier than the photos and definitely a great photo op to send all your friends. The food is not fancy but above average for hamburgers and fries. In fact, I'd rate the food and service a good solid A. My low star rating is due to the "entertainment". A guitar picker with a microphone. He was bad, really, really bad. The music was so loud that it was impossible to carry on a conversation. He said he was taking requests and we thought about just sending him a $20 and asking him to take a break long enough for us to eat.

Alexandra T.

Yelp
Such a fun atmosphere! Who doesn't want to listen to live music and eat dinner in a cave? We love getting the family together and going.

Tam M.

Yelp
You go for the atmosphere and it doesn't disappoint! Restaurant is based below a horse campground under a huge crevice in the "mountain" side. We went at night on a Fri there was a single guitar/singer doing a great job keeping it country . Food was typical burgers, chicken fingers, fries, onion rings with sodas and a well stocked bar. It was good! Prices decent. Service was fine!

James H.

Yelp
Great food! Good Service & Most of all cool location! It's cool to eat in a cave! Try it out! Especially when they've got a band going!

Cheryl M.

Yelp
It's been on my bucket list to come here and I finally made it! Woohoo! This place is very unique and worth a visit. This is also a campground with over 3000 acres. They have horses as well. While the horses are being used, they can't serve alcohol so there is no alcohol till after 5pm. When you come in the entrance there is immediate parking for the saloon. Right near the parking, there is a waiting area where you can get a ride down to the saloon. The saloon is under a giant rock face so while I wouldn't quite call it a cave, it's cave like. This is typical bar food but everything we had was very good. I ordered the chicken salad. It was really good! It had cranberries and crushed Pecans with lettuce and tomato on top. I enjoyed it very much. You get one side and I got the onion rings. They were really good! It was a little chilly sitting outside so I was a little bummed that their only hot drink option was coffee. If I had a recommendation for them it would be to add more hot drinks during the cooler months. Staff were friendly and the service would good. Go check it out for yourself!

Ronnelle B.

Yelp
The cave was really cool. Food was pretty good and the service was good. One of those places you need to go to once if you're in the area.

Mona A.

Yelp
Cool environment being in the middle of a canyon cave type deal. Food was ok. Service was good. Absolutely no cellular service or WiFi so be aware of that in case you are expecting a call or something. We sat inside because it was a bit too chilly outside but even though the doors were wide open and the stage was only a few feet away and fully visible from our table we were unable to hear the musician at all. They had patio heaters outside but did not have any on. I'm glad we went to check it out but I'm in no hurry to go back.

Ty A.

Yelp
Saloon is a stretch, no booze, only wine and beer and only after 5:00. Big surprise for our lunch arrival. The place is very beautiful and could easily be so much more... we enjoyed an appetizer and waited over an hour for our meal. Worth one trip but note the above issues.

Anne P.

Yelp
What a cool, interesting place to eat. First you drive in the middle of the woods, park and wait for a transport vehicle to take you down to the cavern restaurant. So fun! Our server was great and very helpful to our table of three. Best chili cheese nachos Ever!!! Best fried chicken on green salad, per my friend. Food was delicious. We absolutely Loved the place!

Pamela M.

Yelp
My best friend and I came to RS on a Sunday in early November 2019 to wrap up a belated b'day weekend for her, in Florence/the Shoals. Even though their web site says: "Sunday (open) 11:00am until 3:00pm (April 1st-November 30th while the weather permits)" - the saloon part of this place was not open. The people who worked there (??) were helpful and said it was fine for us to walk around and take pictures which we did and it is a really pretty area. small waterfall nearby and cool temperatures. I'll bet the cave dining gets/stays pretty cool year round. All in all a really pretty part of North Alabama. It is also the location of Seven Springs Lodge which has cabins and silos converted into cabins; horseback riding and I think stalls/horse boarding. They have a sundry/souvenir shop that we did not know about or we would have visited it. They appear to be up and running now, since COVID restrictions based on recent reviews, which is great. I can't speak to the food or service since, like I mentioned, they were closed when we went. Again, a cool (literally) natural spot worth checking out - just call first to confirm they are open. :)

Ray R.

Yelp
Heard about this place and decided to take a motorcycle ride down and check it out. It was definitely pretty cool the fact that you get to eat in a cave. Plus it's cool after being on a motorcycle for 3hrs lol. At first I was taken back cause when you pull in its pretty much a camp ground. But don't let it fool ya the restaurant is back a ways. The food was good and vegetables tasted like they were right out of the garden. The burgers were really good, the wings were perfect to. I can't find anything that we didn't like about the place. The staff were super friendly and helpful. Oh try the fried cheesecake it will have you coming back just for this little treat.

Darla T.

Yelp
Food was not good at all, cold fries and stale chips. Gave them two stars because waitress was friendly and it is in a canon. No one told us that the card machine was down and you could only pay with cash, luckily my husband had some cash because I had $0 cash. Go for the experience only and share a meal.

Jason C.

Yelp
I agree with other people that said the name should be changed since they only sell beer and hard ciders after 5. True saloons sell liquor ALL DAY. Hell, just look at the old time pictures outside the indoor bathrooms of a true saloon. We did stop at the top at the gift shop. People were walking around with their beers around theirs horses and trailers. The staff were pleasant and the fried pickles were delicious. The burgers were meh. The bread was dry as if they left the bags open for a while. This place is a one and done for us. We won't be back. It could be sooooooo much better with the right minds at work.

Anthony R.

Yelp
The place was literally a cave! It's kind of a rowdy place with lots of bikers drinking beer. But every one of them were respectful and comical! LOL. The service was very good. The food was standard pre-frozen pub food. Mediocre at best. The burgers would've been great if they had used fresh ground beef instead of premade patties. The fries were very good. The beer selection was meager. And the band that night, well let's just say they sounded better after my fourth beer. I'd say it was definitely worth the one trip to experience eating in a cave. But no need to go back.

Marjorie H.

Yelp
The atmosphere is stunning but the food is crappy. Not very healthy, old frying oil, over cooked; Heart attack train. You want hamburger cold stuff to be cold, crisp, fresh, the hot stuff hot. Our friends who ordered a 'salad' did much better. We visited spring 2021. This food quality problem can be turned around. But we aren't risking a return until reviews are better.

Deb K.

Yelp
Food was good, but, the service and experience is better! It's a unique restaurant and the staff all treat you like family! The camp ground and horses made it a very unique experience!

Alexandra S.

Yelp
A friend of mine had told me about Rattlesnake Saloon after I had mentioned we were taking a trip to Northern Alabama soon. I had never been to the Florence area before so we decided to take a day trip while visiting Huntsville. Our first stop was Rattlesnake Saloon for lunch, when we pulled in we noticed the spot where the shuttle takes you down to the restaurant and within seconds, they were there to pick us up. The truck bed is outfitted with benches and it was a quick ride down to the restaurant. It was a 100 degree day, but the temperature in the cave was very refreshing. They also had several fans set up to help with air circulation. The environment was super cool and their menu consists of 'bar style food', think fried appetizers, burgers, etc but they do not begin to serve alcohol until 5pm. We grabbed the veggie burger (thank you for having a veggie option!) along with their friend green beans/jalapenos, onion rings, and french fries (the jalapenos were spicy!).  Everything was evenly battered, and fried to perfection. I highly recommend the onion rings! All in all we had a great time. The food came out quick, and we were out of there with a ton of time to explore a ton of great other things the area had to offer.

Praise P.

Yelp
What a unique experience and atmosphere. The fried pickles and mushrooms were AWESOME!!! Definitely put this place on your bucket list. William, the owner, was super friendly.

Edward C.

Yelp
Good place for just the ambience alone. Food was good, nothing spectacular. C'mon, it was a burger and fries. I was a little disappointed that they will only cook the burgers medium well. I prefer a medium rare to medium burger, but they do not take requests so be aware of that prior. My wife got onion rings with her burger, and I got the fries. Onion rings were much better. Burger did end up being pretty ok but I'm the one paying the money, it should come the way I WANT IT, not the way they want it. I also had the wings with BBQ sauce for an appetizer. They were ok, but I've had much better. Not sure what BBQ sauce they use but it had a weird flavor. If I ordered them again, I would probably get them plain. Overall, it was OK. The gimmick is eating in a cave which isn't something I do very often (or ever) so for that alone it's worth a try but if you're expecting amazing food, you will be disappointed

Yelp
The food was sub-par and the service very slow. Flies everywhere and the bathrooms filthy.

Yelp
Awesome location and the food was very good. Went with my motorcycle group. I had the most expensive bacon burger, $11, and it came with one side. I had the onion rings. Everyone in the group enjoyed their food. Desserts were great. They serve alcohol after 5pm. The restaurant is down in a large cave. They have a truck that will take anyone who chooses up and down the hill.

Yelp
Cool little venue that seems completely mismanaged. It's 4 pm and the bathrooms aren't clean. Can't imagine what they'll be like at 9pm. No alcohol till 5. We ordered an appetizer of onion rings that came out cold. I dunno this place seems like it's such an underachiever. Needs a big time makeover physically and from a business perspective.

Yelp
What a cool spot! A+ on the setting. The major draw here is the atmosphere, and NOT the food itself. The rocks and water are lovely, such a unique spot to eat. If I were to do it again, I would not come hungry and just enjoy some fries. I was worried it would be overpriced, tourist/cafeteria food and that turned out to be correct. $12 burger was told could only be made well done and it appears to be a frozen, hockey puck of a beef patty. The staff was kind, wait was short, but we never got drink refills and there were less than 5 other tables with customers at them. Without good food, this feels like a one & done tourist trap. If the food was worth while, this could be the best saloon in Alabama.

Yelp
really neat experience....food is worse than bad. Burgers are $15 and they are just the premade frozen Pattie's from Walmart. Also, since it's outside seating, prepare for pretty heavy cigar and cigarette smoke. Fries are frozen too. Place has the potential to be incredible, but the bad food kills it.

Yelp
Wow I cant believe they let them build a restaurant inside such beautiful scenery/waterfall. It does not seem good nature wise but it was a very nice scenery. The food here was good. Theres a lot of nature to explore. To get down here you need to wait for a pick up truck that built seats in the back. great place to spend the day. Nice hiking area in the back. cute little waterfall in the back. Great place to spend. Come at night anytime after i think 6 cause they have live music.

Yelp
We drove from Nashville to go here after wanting to for many years! It was everything I thought it would be and the best part is the ride down with Jack

Yelp
Saturday July 2,2022 was the first time that we had ever been Rattlesnake Saloon. The food was great BUT the lady that was our waitress was lacking in every way possible... she was rude from start to finish of our visit. But I must say, the manager Andrea was awesome and handled everything like a great manager should.

Yelp
This place has a really cool vibe we went for my husband's birthday and there was someone there singing the only thing is I wish there were more healthy options to eat, but we did get a hamburgers and they're huge and our kids got corn dogs.

Yelp
This is a such cool restaurant we have ever been! They utilize the natural settings and incorporate it into a space for customers to experience while dining. First diners have to take a taxi and go down to an open cave, it's pretty neat. It's a first come first serve place unless you have a big group, then you can make reservations in advance. They only open 4 days a week from Thursday to Sunday. They also have live bands on Thursday to Saturday evenings. We went for lunch because we can have a good look of this unique place in day light. The food was pretty good! Hubby has a salad, I had a grill chicken with fries on side. Grill chicken was tender and juicy and flavorful. The salad looked pretty and tasted good too. The waitress was friendly, tentative and polite. The whole land is private property. There are other activities to do besides dining, like horse riding, ATV, hunting... etc.

Yelp
Awesome place! So neat and different! Everyone was so helpful and friendly! Great bar food and beer. We went and they had a band playing! Great night, atmosphere and just overall fun!

Yelp
The rattlesnake saloon was a very unique place to have a meal. The way to get there is with a pickup truck taxi which brings you down the hill to the cavern. It was raining so that even makes it more fun sitting in the back of a pickup truck. The food was pretty simple but really quite good. At nights a band could play there but there are only open Thursday through Sunday so check the times before you go.

Yelp
This is a very cool place. We came very early on a Saturday, and were one of the first groups seated so no wait time at all. The server was friendly and helpful when giving suggestions. However, the food was just so-so. I had the grilled chicken sandwich and it really needs some spice or something, it was very bland. The fries were just run-of-the-mill French fries as well...not anything to get excited about. We did enjoy our visit but feel like the menu could use some sprucing up.

Yelp
First time here. It's a nice place you get picked up by a truck taxi and taken down to the saloon in the cave. We opted to stop in at gift shop first. Then we walked down the wooden stairs to get a closer look at the rocks. We ordered the fried jalapeño n green bean app, split a turkey n cheese sub with homemade chips and split the fried cheesecake. It was good pub food. The staff was super friendly n attentive. They are practicing social distancing etc.... well worth a few hours of your time. If you want an adult beverage those are only served after 5pm.
