We were recommended by our dear friend Gulli, who spoke very highly of the lobster soup and langoustines main course.
We drove 35 mins to get here and were not disappointed by our experience.
The starter soup was perfectly seasoned and presented with a nice dollop of cream… delicious!
We both chose the langoustine main course.. My wife had the 250g portion and I had the larger portion (350g).
What an absolute delight! We did a lot of smiling across the table at each other! The garlic butter was not over the top and perfectly complimented the delicate taste of the shellfish.
Absolutely excellent!
Thank you Gulli for the recommendation!
We had a marvellous time!

What an unexpected surprise. Easily the best meals we ate in Iceland. Lobster pasta was perfect, house soup. The owner attending to us. Authentic Icelandic decor and style.

The food was excellent... this place is about fish and seafood.
The reputation is well anchored around the langoustines with a particularly fine flavor.
Try the soup or one of their other dishes.
The restaurant is located in a fishing village that feels a bit like a ghost town. But you can expect a nice meals and flexible opening hours.

Everything about the Rauða Húsið is First Class dining. The atmosphere is warm and inviting with19th century elegance without a hint of pretense. The food is impeccable in its preparation and presentation. Our party of six all ordered different meals with a seventh for flavor sampling and every single item was agreed by all to be absolutely perfect. On top of everything we could not help but be impressed at our host's gentle demeanor and extensive knowledge. This outing was pure pleasure!

ChatGPT recommended me this place and it was a good idea, if that’s the right word to use. The important things were great: food and service. The branding and decor are an off-putting contradiction: Swiss Modern and grandmas local haunt, respectively. Ignore that and it’s fab. The lobster is small and sweet. The chicken is juicy and flavorful. The owner is a Chicago expat who married a local and has taken to life here. The rhubarb comes from her garden. What’s not to like? (Aligning brand and place will bring in more hipster foodies)

A very nice restaurant in a small town in south Iceland. I started with lobster soup. It was very good. Then I had the lamb. The lamb was a delight. I loved it.

The food was AMAZING! Our server, Candace, was attentive and a joy to talk with. Service was fast! The lunch menu offered a main course and dessert for a great price. If I lived here, I'd eat here once a week! Jessi, the owner, who we rented an air bnb from gave a 10% off discount for staying in her available apartment. Get a room, have a beer or two and eat a magnificent meal! You won't be disappointed!

This was my most memorable meal while vacationing for a week in Iceland. Delicious! We stopped in for a three course lunch. The lobster soup (& bread), lightly fried cod entree, & an ice cream sundae were all very good. Ordering just soup or dessert is an option too if you are interested lighter fare. The staff was very helpful & courteous. Thanks!
