16 Best Smoky and Blue Ridge Mountain Cabins to Rent - AFAR

"Perched roughly 50 feet up and reached by 65 steps, this remote tree house sits on a 40-acre wildlife preserve about 10 miles from the Asheville airport; access requires four-wheel drive via a dirt and gravel road. It is completely off-grid (no electricity) with a Porta-Potty on site, but rewards guests with sweeping mountain views and frequent wildlife sightings including owls, bobcats, and falcons." - Lyndsey Matthews, Nicholas DeRenzo

Beautiful little cabin with phenomenal Mountain View. In the middle of nature on the mountain. Wonderful host who shuttled us to the cabin. Quiet an so very peaceful. A perfect way to get away from the grind of life. 20 minutes from Asheville too. I highly recommend this wonderful getaway.

Words cannot describe how beautiful this place is. Any time any season youre in for a real treat! I cannot wait to take family photos here and i cant believe they can do weddings here! With the hurricane that came through this place is still standing strong. It offered my husband and i such a peaceful place to relax and destress while watching the stars right form our bed. Don't miss out!

Absolutely fell in love with everything about Raven Rock Mountain! As I drove to the top I felt my mind and heart being uplifted. The views are nothing short of spectacular! I had the privilege of being in both the tree house and the cabin on the rock ledge. The tree house is super cool and made me feel like a giddy kid. You can actually cook on the deck outside! The cabin on the rock ledge was my favorite. A boutique cabin with all the lux an off the grid cabin could possibly offer! No matter which cabin you choose this tranquil property is a bucket lister!!! The pavilion is amazing with an architectural wonder fireplace. An intimate wedding in this vignette surrounded by your loved ones while witnessing a sunset together would be epic!

Me, and my daughter rented a cabin at Raven Rock Mountain. She was on HBL and we were visiting waterfalls in the area. The cabin looked cute, and I'm sure it would have been somewhat nicer in summer months to stay there. We went on 01/01/2025 and checked in at 5:00pm and we froze. The cabin was not insulated at all, and it had a see through glass garage door on the side. The wood burning stove to keep the cottage warm had to be loaded every 2 hours. If you choose to stay here set an alarm every 2 hours to load the burner with wood. Also no matter where you are in the cabin you can be seen by anybody outside and there is a few other places on Raven Mountain around the cottage we stayed in. They really should invest in pull down blinds. I felt very uncomfortable staying there. The following morning I messaged Jen at 10:00 and asked if she could shuttle us back down btw it's a half a mile hike to get to the cabin straight up hill and you can't drive up it in 2 wheel drive. She sent her grandson to pick us up at 11:00 and we left. I am thankful she was able to shuttle us but that isn't the case for everyone who stayed here. It depends on if her, her husband, or any family is at home. I explained in a message it was way too cold. She just said ok. We didn't stay the 2nd night and didn't get reimbursed for it either. I felt she could have been more kind considering we absolutely hated our stay and was only there for 18 hours. Me, and my daughter got about 2 hours away and I got a call from Airbnb asking if I smoked inside. I explained I did not but that I do smoke but did so outside the door. We rented the room while we were in town and had service. I explained we didn't have sheets because we lived 5 hours away she did give us some to take up with us. I found that odd that she couldn't provide sheets already on the bed for guests so make sure you bring your own sheets. My stay wasn't worth the $360.00 I spent. Also everything to cook with was outside and had not been touched in awhile all the silverware and dishes were very dirty. Also service on the mountain is patchy even though it says there is service up there. I was able to call my family back home to let them know I was safe and 15 seconds into the call it dropped the call and did so every time I attempted to call out. I would not recommend this place to anyone. There are other places in Pisgah National Forest and surrounding areas with way nicer cabins, and tree houses. I wouldn't stay in the tree house there. It is held up with old very skinny trees but to each their own. Hope this is helpful to someone! Have a blessed day!

Raven Rock Mountain is absolutely gorgeous. The views are breathtaking and our family had the vacation of a lifetime. Doug and Jen were the perfect hosts. They were very responsive and considerate, ensuring our stay was perfect, from start to finish. The treehouse cabin is nothing short of spectacular. We are counting down the days until we return.

The venue is immaculate and truly one of a kind. The owners are wonderful and kind. You truly get to experience a mix of camping and luxury at the same time. Deep in the Appalachian mountains, but also very close to different stores and such. They have a wedding venue and multiple cabins including a magnificent treehouse. It’s truly a trifecta of beauty, clean, and convenient.

Our business did a yoga retreat and private session at the new pavilion and had the most amazing time. Our staff was greeted by the owners Doug and Jen who made sure we had rides up to the to the facility even though we forgot to rent a 4x4. The views from Raven Rock Mountain are timeless and the sunsets left us speechless. We highly recommend renting the pavilion and their cabins if you want to create a memorable experience.

IMPORTANT UPDATE Since posting this review the coordinator for Raven Rock, Lauren Serrano had several friends and family members leave five star reviews all at the same time. There is no evidence that any of these events ever took place. At the time of our tour Lauren told us that there had not yet been a single real wedding at Raven Rock, only staged shoots. This is evident on Instagram where you can plainly see that no one has tagged the venue in any real weddings. We initially booked Raven Rock as the venue for an after elopement dinner party for 30-35 people after a tour with Lauren where she seemed very flexible, open minded and easy going. She offered us a very low price for the event and in hindsight that should have been a big red flag. She then let over a month pass while we booked vendors before suddenly having a problem with our photographer. She was like a different person after we signed, becoming rigid, bossy and difficult. Our photographer specializes in small weddings and elopements and that has exclusively comprised her ten year career in this industry. She has always acted as day of coordinator for these small scale intimate events and Lauren was unable to work with us on this. Regardless of who is right or wrong Lauren's additude towards my fiancé was uppity, unprofessional and deeply unpleasant. It was also clear to me that our photographer was deeply relieved we wouldn't be working with Raven Rock anymore. You cannot expect to excel in the wedding industry when you treat customers and other vendors like they are stupid. She truly was completely disinterested in understanding where we were coming from and spent the majority of a 17 minute phone call trying to ram her beliefs about what we should want on our wedding day down my fiancé's throat. We ended up feeling so negatively about our interaction with Lauren that we couldn't risk having her involved in our wedding day. Her demeanor is completely different from 100% of the other vendors I have interacted with. I would think carefully before booking a venue run by someone who doesn't act as though they have the experience they're claiming to have, no matter how good the deal seems. Again- this ultimately was not about the requirement of a separate day of coordinator and instead about how that misunderstanding should have been handled differently. The last thing I want on my wedding day is to be talked down to.
