Ravenna Gorge

Fabulous little trail that leads to several waterfalls in The Black Forest. There are bridges that have been built, and the trail is kept up. Nice and fairly easy little hike up, there are several sets of stairs, some are steep, so you need to be able to traverse those. They are setting up a Christmas village, so now is definitely the time to go. Wish I could hang around another week. The drive up is not bad either. There are stunning views of the surrounding Black Forest. At the bottom of the Gorge, you will find a Glass Blowing store, Bakery and café, with made on site Black Forest Cakes and other delicacies and also a Cuckoo clock shop with demonstrations.

We visited here during our Rhine River Cruise, for the Christmas Markets. We had an incredible lesson on the making of the Coo-coo clocks, and got to watch a glass blowing demonstration. The working clock is something to not miss! After the clock struck 3, we moved down to the markets, and decided to take a hike up. The views were incredible! The trail was a little slippery and muddy, nothing out of the ordinary for a good trail. Seeing the bridge, the 🌳 trees, and lights of the Christmas Markets were all so magical ✨️. It was easy to see why this place drew in so many influencers, and now require timed tickets and a change to awarding them. I was so glad to be able to enjoy the food and buy some perfect gifts while here. I would love to come back for more hikes. Enjoyed the time we had and thankful for all the incredible shops!

A very beautiful and nice trail. Very organized and comfortable, not a difficult walk and the stream is very beautiful. A recommended option for a two-three hour hike.

One of my favorite trails in the Black Forest go as deep in the forest as you want. The trail is very well established. Go early or late to avoid the crowds.

We parked for free on Hollsteig avoiding the car park charges albeit there aren’t many places on Hollsteig to do so but we got lucky. Maybe because we turned up after 5pm? This left us a slightly longer walk to the viaduct but we didn’t mind. The gorge itself goes uphill from here via a combination of slopes & steps. We walked up the gorge for a mile or so & then came back down. As a free activity in the Black Forest, it is very worthwhile to spend an hour or two here.

I love this little hike. I lived in the area 7 years & missed it. Came for a visit and love to see how well it’s been kept up. Only thing that’s too bad is now they charge like 5€ just to park. But other than that, great lil’ hike.

Beautiful scenery with a dramatic gorge and forest views. You can reach it with a moderate hike from Hinterzarten, or take an easier hike along the paths around Ravenna Gorge.

The hiking can be easily made, enjoying a great view of the river and its waterfalls along all the way. After reaching the top of the mountain starts a walking through houses with a nice landscape. Appreciate the waterfalls on winter and the interesting ice forms was extra nice!👌
