My husband and I stayed this weekend to celebrate his birthday and my Mother’s Day! We had the most amazing and relaxing time here. The staff is insanely friendly and happy to answer all our questions. A huge selection of board games to play for the weekend at the ready. The food was so good! My husband enjoyed the butterbeer! And the grounds were just stunning and peaceful. Honestly hope we get to come back!

Wow!!! What an incredible place to stay!! We loved everything about Ravenwood! The staff is so friendly and helpful! The food is fantastic and the pub is a super fun quaint place to gather. The themed rooms are so cool! The grounds are beautiful with hiking paths, wildlife and a fire pit to gather around. We were there just before the trees started to bud but the daffodils were in full bloom. We would love to come back in the spring when the trees begin to emerge or the fall when the leaves begin to turn. We are certain it would be a spectacular bouquet of color. |We plan to return and would recommend to anyone wanting to get off the grid and |just relax and enjoy the peacefulness. Thank you Ravenwood!

Ravenwood Castle was such a treat! My family and I had an incredible time visiting. The cottages are adorable and you truly feel like you are in a fairy village! The castle is amazing and the Renaissance music playing while eating breakfast was so neat. It was so nice to unplug from the world and enjoy some peace and family time. The food was delicious (the burgers, BLT, dessert, and breakfast casserole was excellent) and the staff was nice and accommodating! The only staff member I got the name of was Max. He took our orders and served us one night. He was so welcoming, kind, and had a great down-to-earth demeanor. Our cabin was so clean and beautiful. Can't wait to come back!! Thank you for allowing us to escape!

This place was fantastic! The people that service this weekend genuinely cared and did so much for us. I brought my family here and we had a fantastic time. My wife especially enjoyed the scavenger hunts they have. She was so excited to run around and find all the things. It's quaint, cute and way off the beaten path. Feels like its in the middle of the forest. Not the typical hotel and that's what I loved about it.

Google
Amazing stay. I'd suggest a cabin over staying at the castle. Don't order out. The food they serve is absolutely amazing. We got pizza once and ate in the other meals and I wish we never got the pizza. Tons of games and amazing atmosphere. Staff was great as well. Wi-Fi is terrible so be prepared for that.

We visited for my birthday and had such a relaxing time! We played a few board games and we haven’t done that in years! The food was really good, Queen Victoria room was beautiful !! The service was exceptional! The staff made us feel so welcome and were truly the definition of excellent customer service! We are already planning our next visit. The beginning: My husband & I went on a long weekend. We stayed in the candlewood cottage. The castle itself is beautiful. The reception area is in the back of the castle so we had to navigate there. We checked in, got a little tour and got our room keys. The room: I was not a fan at first. It was very cute, a little small. Nice mini fridge, coffee maker, TV with DVD player. The bathroom was my biggest issue as it hard for me to navigate as I'm a bigger women. Hard water stains on the sink & tub. The first night, I try to take a bath in the jacuzzi tub but where the castle is located, it's well water. If you know anything about well water, there's a very unpleasant odor. Absolutely no fault to the castle or the workers. With that being said, I was still determined to make the weekend great. Food: We made the decision to have dinner there Friday and Saturday night. Dinner was delicious! A little weird the first night just because we didn't know what to expect. Dinner is a must if you go in Friday and Saturday. Breakfast was included. Cereal, hard boiled eggs, rotation of casseroles, muffins, juice, coffee, tea. My husband is a diabetic so breakfast was hard. Saturday and Sunday, they have a alternate menu that you can order off of (for a charge). We did that Saturday and Sunday. Monday, we just made it work. Not a fan of the breakfast during the week but as it was included, no complaints here. Staff: All the staff was super kind. There was one gentleman that worked in the evening that was absolutely fantastic. One thing I will say though is if you need something, you have to ask. The workers are in and out of the kitchen and in and out of the castle doing what they got to do. They're not going to stop and ask you if you need anything. There is a call button type thing downstairs in the pub and where you can call somebody to come down and take your order (food or drink). We stayed upstairs for the most part because stairs suck. If we wanted a drink, we would have to pop our head into the kitchen and ask somebody for it. They were super accommodating and helpful but it took me a minute to get used to. Gaming: we're big nerds and we didn't know what kind of games they'd have so we brought our own. They did have a nice collection. We played games everyday in the big dining room. The other guests there were cool and it's easy to meet other people to play games with. If you're not into tabletop games or hikes, this might not be the vacation for you. They had four scavenger hunts, the difficulty increased for each one. They were a lot of fun! We got three out of the four of them. The last one is genius level. Great for people young and old. My niece is five and likes to play games so I might take her on a weekend getaway here if nothing else for the castle & the scavenger hunts. Overall, I'd give a rating of 5/5. Once I understood that you need to ask for what you need, I was good. While I didn't love the bathroom in the cabin, it's that no fault of the castle or its employees. Next time we go (and we absolutely will be back), I think we'll choose a room inside of the castle on the main floor so that way we don't have to walk anywhere lol Give it a go. Keep an open mind and have fun!

Yelp
Great place to stay if you enjoy fun whimsical places. The murder mystery weekends are a lot of fun. The entire Castle staff - are amazing!! The food and drinks are really good and reasonably priced IMO.

Yelp
Will start with a positive. If you're looking for somewhere to totally unplug, this is your place! There are no TVs, telephones, ice bucket, radio, hair dryer, clock, microwave or a coffee pot in the room. The room was immaculate inside, but lacked the golden throne, (which had my curiosity peaked & was the ONLY reason I chose the Empress Matilda!!) We did have a gas fireplace. Upon request we were supplied 2 small wine glasses & an ice bucket full of ice. All of the staff were friendly. Now for the negative. Be sure to read carefully about your room choice as Empress Matilda is on the second floor of a very steep, narrow staircase. And it's a 2 night minimum stay for MOST ROOMS. Be prepared for a very steep, long, narrow, dirt/gravel driveway leading up to the top of a hill. (I don't drive my car on dirt or gravel!) Parking is again on gravel with no walkway across the uneven grass way we needed to cross to get to the main entrance. SIDE NOTE: As I said previously, I was sad that was no golden throne. When we asked about it, they said someone broke it, so I'm assuming it was the toilet. It wasn't in any of the pictures. EMPRESS MATILDA is on the right side of the castle with 2 windows & a "Juliet style" balcony. The room was very warm, so we opted to open the only window that had a screen, and used the fan we found in the armoire. When we opened the window, the sill was full of dead stink bugs. When I made the reservation, & when we checked in I told them it was for our 50th anniversary (no recognition anywhere of this-a welcome note or something would have been a nice touch.) I asked to have the room freshened a.k.a. clean sheets and towels as we were staying two nights. I also reiterated this upon checking in. When we left for the day we hung the " Please make up our room" door hanger on the door knob. Upon arriving back after our first day out, there hadn't been any freshening of our room, and when we questioned the office staff, we were provided two towels and told they "don't check every room." No one was ever present down in the pub for service, but there is a bell provided that you can push for someone to come. There is a menu for food but we opted to venture out to Logan & Nelsonville. Breakfast is provided daily, but isn't served until 8:30 AM. NOT for early risers. The staff tell you what is available for breakfast and then they fill your plate for you. One morning we had a sausage, sweet pancake casserole for the main entrée and the second morning was a corn beef hash casserole. There's juice milk, yogurt, granola, boiled egg, fresh fruit. And on Sunday instead of a muffin, they were homemade cinnamon rolls. There is a coffee bar with coffee, tea, and hot chocolate that is available starting around 8:00am throughout the day.

Yelp
Booked a stay for my husband's birthday but had to cancel way ahead of time due to medical condition He's having biopsy soon and is very sick They claimed they didn't get it so charged me whole amount versus just keeping the non refundable deposit They were very hateful and greedy enjoy your $300 so now I'm dealing with his condition and losing needed money Don't support these people please

Yelp
Off the beaten path and worth it! Want to disconnect? No problem, spotty cell service! Want to avoid using the castles Wi-Fi? Rent out a cottage and voila! No Wi-Fi! See the positives of not bringing your work and home lives with you as you take a break and relax. Are you transported to medieval England? No, you are in the foothills of the Appalachian mountains near the Hocking Hills! Is it awesome? YES! Plus they have events, a pub, dinners, cabins, cottages and rooms to stay in at the castle. Curvy twisty roads abound for you motorcycle enthusiasts!! And if you want to get pampered in your room, cabin or cottage contact : https://www.hockinghillstravelingmassage.com/ for a fantastic 90 minute massage! Thanks Kayla you made our anniversary special!

Yelp
We had our honeymoon here and absolutely loved it. We stayed in the castle and later in the medieval village. We played games in the pub and loved their selection of craft beers.

Yelp
A great hidden gem in the heart of the Hocking Hills area. You can book a room at the castle or any one of their on-site cabins with fire pits, hiking trails and grills. Absolutely loved our stay!

Yelp
On a search for castles in Ohio, I booked a stay at Ravenwood. I took my sister as a birthday gift and a much needed getaway for the both of us. Booking online was super simple, and I received the right amount of communication. When you arrive it almost felt weird wandering in to check-in. They have a minimal staff and use a bell to request assistance. We rang the bell to check-in and was helped by someone right away. He got us checked-in and then gave us a quick tour on our way to our room. We even got the keys to the castle! As you are checking in you pick what time you would like to have breakfast the next day. They have a pub onsite, AKA they have dining options. The same gentleman who checked us in also was our chef and waiter for the evening. He was busy as there were also two other couples having dinner as well. Props to the staff for doing so much! We got to meet and talk with the other diners. It was fun getting to meet other people. Breakfast is served in the great hall. You can eat there or take your food to go. There is someone to serve you your breakfast. They had a quiche, yogurt, homemade granola, muffins, and fresh fruit available. There is a library, lots of board games, music, and dvds available for guests to borrow. Our room did not have a TV which is alright by me. I used it as an evening to get away and unplug. My sister and I stayed in the Queen Elizabeth room. It was a nice little room with sitting chairs and a fireplace, with a balcony to walk out onto. We played card games and listened to music in front of the fire. There are rooms inside the castle and then there is a village with other rentable houses. There are walking trails outside the grounds. Old Man's Cave, Ash Cave, Conkle's Hallow and other trails are nearby. It was an adventure getting to stay at Ravenwood, and highly recommend it!

Yelp
I want to say this first, I Love Ravenwood castle. It is a Great getaway and so much fun, Meeting so many interesting people on the Murder Mystery. Tho it has been about five years since our last visit and it seemed different then we really enjoyed the Woodcutter cottage! I kind of wish they would change the food a bit, Maybe keep the bar food open later and do just pizza and a desert (ice cream?) in the main room instead of food that seems fancy but just didn't taste good and was expensive. That said it was the same five years ago as far as the food tho i did enjoy the beer cheddar soup in the pub i wish we wouldn't have paid for dinner on both days since we didn't eat it. I think i like the Murder Mysteries which are more busy, this one wasn't so check on that first if that is what you are looking for.

Yelp
My husband & I stayed at Ravenwood Castle for our honeymoon in May of 2018 & it was an absolutely lovely experience! The board game library was so much fun & we ended up playing so many new board games & discovering so much! It definitely sparked our love of board games/strategy games & now 5 years later we have a large & growing board game collection! There was a cute little bar area in the lower level with various options for craft soda, cocktails, wine, and beer along with some food options. There was also a nice dining/gathering area on the main level & there was an amazing breakfast every morning. Additionally, we ordered pizza delivery from a local pizzeria that the owners of Ravenwood recommended to us & that was delicious as well. Ravenwood Castle was the most perfect place for my husband & I to stay for a quiet, peaceful, and memorable honeymoon. The owners were both so kind, accommodating, and helpful as well! They even checked on us/helped us late at night when our room's fire alarm randomly triggered, which was much appreciated! There were literally no problems with our stay & it was a magical time! To the owners: Thank you SO much for running & maintaining Ravenwood Castle - we definitely look forward to visiting again very soon & having another amazing experience!

Yelp
This place is one of a kind. A hidden jem! Loved that they had 3 castle cats walking around outside too. So cute! They had a great breakfast also. A French toast bake, fresh fruit, granola, muffins, hats boiled eggs. The room was super clean. Great price! Will definitely return!

Michelle B.

Yelp
Interesting place. I get it's a little kitschy and not perfectly authentic, but it's truly perfect for what it is. There are all kinds of great little niches and areas to explore or relax. Note that there is no internet outside of the castle. There are also no game's, TV, or anything else at the cabins to do, but you CAN get books, games DVDs, etc to borrow from the castle. They have a good selection and I think you could definitely find something for everyone. First (and honestly most importantly) the cabin was spotless. It smelled clean, not perfumed or fake but just freshly cleaned. Zero signs of rodents or bugs. Comfy and had all the necessary elements for a comfy weekend. The temperature was easy to control from the room and there was decent water pressure and plenty of hot water for 2. I would suggest skipping meals here, I wasn't impressed with any of the food. But the service is friendly and they will happily deliver it to wherever in the castle you happen to be. We came for the Hoop and Stick con. I really enjoyed the atmosphere and met many great people. I would love to try a murder mystery weekend.

Yelp
This is a little gem in the forest. Stayed in the Merchant's Cottage which was much larger than expected. It had a wonderful little reading loft and plenty of units for cooling or heating the place. The jacuzzi in the tub was an unfortunate geyser but it could have been user error... The castle is fun and the hosts do a lot to keep you entertained. I would have preferred to have some medieval music at the pub in the evening (with a stereo). The hiking trails were a nice surprise and underrated. They have done so much to make this place unique and it was really nice to have a little getaway there. I would definitely return!

Yelp
INCREDIBLY GENEROUS PEOPLE My husband and I booked the Queen Elizabeth Suite for a Monday arrival and Thursday departure. The castle is just as it appears online. The owners have done a wonderful job of decking out the sleeping rooms, dining room, pub etc to look like a castle in Europe. A quirky place in a beautiful wooded location. But the incredibly generous part was the innkeepers or owners. We arrived on a Monday afternoon and had a delicious C0Vid safe breakfast, Tuesday morning, then off to hike in Hocking Hills State Park. In the afternoon, I fell coming down an embankment and broke my ankle in 3 places. Hours and Emergency Room later, we arrived back at the castle. I needed an Ortho Surgeon so we prepared to leave that evening, Tuesday. My husband spoke to the Innkeepers and told them we were leaving and asked them to do the best they could with the bill regarding our leaving before our intended departure. RAVENWOOD CASTLE FORGAVE OUR ENTIRE BILL. They forgave the night we stayed and didn't charge us for the nights that we had reserved. Additionally, they forgave our pub bill from Monday night. In my husband's efforts to pack us up by himself while I waited with my crutches in the dining room, he forgot my Kindle and my electric toothbrush. They contacted us and mailed these back to us, again, no charge. I wish I could tell you more about the beautiful grounds or their dinner menu. We didn't have opportunity for these. However, these are really kind, generous people. Give this quirky beautiful place a try.

Dani K.

Yelp
The Event Coordinator, Molly Smith, was amazing in helping us figure out all the details in staying at Ravenwood Castle. She was timely, communicative, and provided all the helpful facts needed when planning a visit for a large group of people planning a retreat.

Charles B.

Yelp
We stopped in for our anniversary. they were a bit short handed that day, but the employees that were there were great. They went above and beyond. We stayed in the King Arthur suite. That was a great room. Our only concern was the painting on the upstairs wall. Ill let you take a look at it and decide for yourself. As a hint, look where the queen/brides hands are. LOL. The grounds were very nice. I loved the sculpted hedge garden and the life sized chess board. I really liked how they had both cabins and rooms in the "castle". It is also nice to get away from things, because there is no cell service in the area. You can tell people "sorry I was in an area with no cell service" and truly escape from the world and technology. They do have wifi though. Overall, it is worth a get away. We want to try the cabins next.

Zeb L.

Yelp
Ravenwood is somewhere between 4 and 5 stars depending on the extent to which you're a fanatic gamer. For myself and my girlfriend, being in a castle-themed B&B for a weekend with no internet and a stack full of board games is exactly what we're looking for, so this place is a little paradise. If you're less of a gamer or not looking to get away from it all, this place might not be what you're looking for. Ravenwood's schtick is that it's castle-themed. Each room has a different theme and costs varying amounts. Dining is buffet style, and if you order sufficiently in advance dinner is catered in. There's also a downstairs pub that serves both food and alcohol (except for the latter on Sundays), and you can get delivery from a few nearby places. The real draw for me though are the following two things. First, the gaming opportunities. Ravenwood is a draw for the nerdy crowd (unsurprisingly), and it has a board game library on site that is considerable: a nice mix of light, medium, and heavy-weight strategy games to fit a wide variety of groups. Aside from board games, this is the kind of place that my seventeen year-old self would have loved to hole up in for a weekend and do nothing but play Dungeons & Dragons. And that definitely is an option. For the gaming crowd, they also periodically hold conventions here. Now I haven't been to one (yet), but the people I do know who have gone have raved about it, and I plan to make the next one I can. The second draw is the isolation. I like this place precisely because I want to unplug, not have access to wireless, and have a weak cellphone signal. That's not a draw all of the time, but when I want to get away from the assorted BS of my regular existence, this is the place I want to go. The only thing about my stay that could have been better was the temperature in the room. I think the A/C in the main building shuts off around 3 or 4 AM, because each night my girlfriend and I would wake up because our room was very, very warm. But that's an incentive to visit at less warm times of the year.

Alli S.

Yelp
We went here for our anniversary get away. The place is very remote which is nice but has its draw backs. There is very limited cell service, again can be nice and a draw back. The castle is super cute. They have themed rooms, little cabins that look like homes and then legit cabins down the hill. We staid in the Shakespeare suite. It was decorated in theme and very large. They also had fun scavenger hunts you could do. Which was nice. It got you out on the grounds walking around and to see it all. The reason we give it 3 stars is we thought there was a restaurant on property. Once we got there we were told they are only open on the weekends. We were there on a Wed to Thurs stay. They told us there was a pub that served food. Once we saw the menu we were greatly disappointed. They also said there was a BBQ place near by aka 15 min drive out or we could order out. So wasn't exactly the dinner we were expecting. Then when we were ready to order they told us it would be an hour to two hours before our food would be ready. We then realized there were only two ladies running the whole castle that evening. They were who checked you, bartender, cook, server, and any other task. Which it wasn't packed but busy enough. Now for the food we didn't have high expectations but this was frozen food cooked in a microwave. We laughed about it but were sorely disappointed. So I would say it is fun experience but eat somewhere along the way or at least be prepared if going during the week.

Yelp
After so many visits to Ravenwood, it's time I updated this review. My wife and I have been back many times. Sometimes for quiet getaways and sometimes to experience the hectic murder mysteries hosted at the castle during the winter months. Each visit has been enjoyable in their own ways. We've been lucky enough to stay in several rooms in the castle along with a few of the cabins in the village. Given a choice (and if money were no object), I prefer to stay in the cabins. Regardless of where we book, the room quality always impresses when we first enter. However, flaws become apparent after a few days stay. Nothing serious, mind you, but it does break the illusion a bit. Also, we just got back from a recent visit and I can report that they now have wi-fi for guests. The signal ain't great if you're staying in Rapunzel's Tower, but it seemed OK everywhere else in the castle.

Yelp
A unique stop if you're visiting Hocking Hills in Southeast Ohio. Ravenwood Castle is a bed and breakfast with an affable staff. The Castle sits atop a forested hill in what is otherwise farm country. The castle itself includes a handful of rooms off a main dining hall where breakfast and dinner are served regularly. Please keep in mind that dinner does require a reservation and that you should inform the staff of dietary constraints prior to your visit. The Castle also includes a bar, a library, and a wide selection of games. If you're a gamer, this is probably a must-see. Guests to Ravenwood can also stay in one of the adjacent cottages. My visit included a stay to the Spinster's Cottage. I thought the name was a bit misleading because this was the perfect place for a couple with an upstairs loft-style bedroom, a kitchen and living area and a bathroom with a large two person jacuzzi. Though I definitely enjoyed my stay, I thought it was odd to market this place as a bed and breakfast as the facilities are way too much for a single couple to run themselves. This place definitely requires a staff to handle all the different rooms and services that are provided, much more like a hotel than a B&B. There are also some details that could be improved upon. For instance, if you're looking for a straight B&B, this is more hotel-esque; if you're looking for an authentic castle or an authentic cottage in the woods, this is a little more ren-fair; and if you're looking for a wide selection of food, well, this is a little more you get what's been made (although most of the food was quite good). All-in-all it's a great experience that I'm glad I had, however, I'd probably mix up where I stayed the next time I'm in the area.

Dani J.

Yelp
I would have easily given the place a 5 if we weren't vegan. We called before booking the first time to see if they were vegan friendly and they said "absolutely" and we could even book a vegan dinner in the great hall. It turned out to be veggies on a kabob for 50$. We weren't thrilled but this place was amazing. Great to be in the woods and check out the very cool themed rooms and cottages. And drinking and games! This place is so awesome! Got myself a bottle of hobnob Chardonnay and played so many different games so of course we booked again, but decided against the dinner since we saw vegan burgers on the menu in the pub, but when we went they were out of vegan burgers that weekend. So we had to run a half hour away to get food from Walmart and come back and cook it (I mean, not me personally, I'm a lazy bones) but our DM and excellent chef friend did. So it ended up just being an inconvenience and this place is so unique it is worth it.

Yelp
I've stayed at Ravenwood castle twice in the past year - the first time was for a convention (which I organized), the second was just for fun - and both weekends were incredible. Ravenwood is truly in the middle of nowhere - there is little to no cell phone service, and no wi-fi/internet available on property, either. Both of these things are important to note, but honestly being unplugged is one of the things I love most about this place :) Jim (the proprietor) and Steve (the manager) are friendly and welcoming. They have a good beer selection in the bar, including a decent number of local brews. Breakfast is included, and while it's more of the 'continental' variety, it's tasty - coffee/juice/water/milk, a couple different cold cereals, some muffins, a hot casserole (these can be hit-or-miss, honestly), and on Sundays, delicious cinnamon rolls. The property is clean, beautiful, and quiet. 'Picturesque' is a more than proper descriptor :) On my first trip I stayed in the Spinster cottage right next to the castle. Very roomy, big bathroom, and the queen bed upstairs is supremely comfortable. On my second trip, my friends and I booked a bit late and ended up down in the Fairy Tale cabins. While we still had an amazing time, I'd only 'choose' a Fairy Tale cabin if it was - again - the only option available to me. They're definitely a bargain for the price, but our cabin (Sleeping Beauty, I think?) had a tiny bathroom (which meant a tiny shower - not suggested for tall people, that's for sure) and the bed was kind of set in a nook, causing us to hit our heads on the wall several times throughout our stay. Also, it's not exactly an easy walk to or from the castle - it's a pretty steep uphill climb to get there, and a bit of a perilous downhill trek to come back. We drove all but once :-/ (And mind you, I'm a healthy, active, outdoorsy person...) As someone who organized an event that took place here (we rented out the entire property for it), I have to say that Ravenwood is simply a pleasure to work with. There were some minor communication issues here and there, but nothing more than what is to be expected and certainly nothing extremely problematic. Their rental rates and agreements are also pretty affordable. Needless to say, I see myself returning to Ravenwood many times in the future - both for fun, and for another go at my event next year :)

Yelp
This place is cool! We went for a weekend to celebrate my husband's birthday and our 3 year old was in heaven. We stayed in Huntsman's Hollow and the rooms/cabins/tiny homes were pretty nice - screened in front porch, nice sidewalks, clean, close to a fire pit and bench swings. We paid for dinner Saturday night, but my son wouldn't eat any of the food (only because he decided to be picky). There was a small menu and we were able to order a kid's grilled cheese and tomato soup for him. They didn't charge us for his sandwich because we had already paid for him to eat at the buffet. Food was fantastic! And breakfast is included in your room rate -- Cinnamon Roll Sunday was the best! The ambience is great, the food was delicious and if we were into board games, we would have hours of fun with that! (We watched movies that we brought and ate popcorn in our cabin's loft for our fun Saturday night.)

Jeff W.

Yelp
We were there recently to celebrate my wife's birthday. The place is amazing. It was built as a bed and breakfast from the beginning with 7 rooms in the castle and several cabins around the grounds. Currently the castle is for sale so the amenities do seem a bit off. We did have dinner Thursday night when we arrived but there was no dinner available Friday or Saturday nights. Rooms were clean and nice. There are some antiques through out the building (some of the furnishings are out of place). Sadly the water at the castle is well water that has the unmistakable aroma of sulfur. There is no cell phone coverage, limited number of TV's and the internet is limited. You can actually unplug!!! This is probably the best feature! Overall it is a great experience and get away.

Yelp
Ravenwood Castle is a themed bed an breakfast in New Plymouth, Ohio. It is in an area called Hocking Hill, a voluptuously rolling wooded wonderland for those of us in the flatlands of Indiana. Hiking is glorious! We hiked 8-10 miles on our first full day there. We arrived on a Sunday, departed on a Tuesday. Our room, the Queen Victoria, was right off the dining hall. Between hearing the innkeeper stacking dishes on the buffet at 4 am and or hearing little children whine during breakfast (through our closed bedroom door), ours was not an ideal room. Go for an upstairs room, or a room in one of the stand-alone rooms. The novelty of the "Castle" gave way to the realization that it was simply novel. The breakfast was mediocre. On our last morning, we had to make our own coffee, since staff did not arrive until 7 am ( the cook was there the day before at 6:30 am). The mattress was not quality and was covered in a mattress pad fit for a toddler's bed... Waterproof and crinkly. Much sadness as it crinkled with every move and was not breathable. They do have a pub, but on Sunday's cannot serve alcohol. The pub food is limited. Apparently, on Friday and Saturdays they cater food in. If you go any other night, BRING YOUR OWN FOOD, in a cooler. We did and are so thankful about that. Oh, and a big head's up: there is almost no wi-fi/ internet service. My husband has AT&T and I have Verizon. Neither of us could get a signal. So, if you have children/others who need to get in touch with you, good luck! Nice office manager. But it takes more than nice to help create an award winning experience.

Yelp
My fiance and I are huge board game fans, and we had an amazing time here. We stayed in the Woodcutter's Cottage over a long weekend. I highly recommend the cottages if you're looking for a romantic getaway. Ours was beautifully furnished and absolutely charming. The other guests we talked to who were also staying in the cottages raved about their experience as well. Other reviewers have noted the lack of tv's, internet, and cell phone reception. Personally I saw this as a plus. Instead of being glued to Facebook all weekend, we actually (gasp!) spent quality time together and relaxed. I totally get if disconnecting from your online life for a weekend is not your cup of tea, but if that's the case, why are you staying at a remote bed and breakfast in the middle of nowhere? And speaking of cups of tea, the castle has hot tea and coffee available for guests all day long. Yay! We spent our time here hiking, taking bubble baths, and of course playing board games! The castle has a wide selection of games. No, not Life and Monopoly. Good games! The staff there are super friendly and always willing to play a game or two with you. You can also borrow games to take back to your room/cottage to play there. All in all it was an amazing experience. We're definitely coming back here!

Yelp
We had such a great time here! We had a girls night and attended a beer tasting with Jackie O's as the guest for the tasting! The employees were accommodating, welcoming, and knowledgeable. We got to know other people who were staying there, who were very friendly! Very clean and well-kept in the room and main castle areas. We also enjoyed the bar downstairs. Thanks for a great night!

Yelp
Love this place! What a neat idea. Close to hocking hills trails and ATV rental. Check it out below: http://www.hockinghills.com/atvnaturetrails.html

Yelp
I was debating over what to give Ravenwood. It was a toss up between 2 and 3. But I just couldn't give it 3 stars. I have experienced better at a MUCH better price. The reason I came to Ravenwood was for a Murder Mystery, which WAS amazing. But the actual stay at Ravenwood was not so much. Don't get me wrong, the staff are very friendly and helpful. Cinderella's Coach House where I stayed, was very comfortable, and clean. The Coach House has a large jacuzzi style bath tub, which I attempted to enjoy. Attempted, because when it was about halfway filled, the hot water ran out. We tried again the next day, and the same thing. So never really got to relax in it, or make actual use of it. Grounds are well maintained, and there are lots and lots of games to play. The geek in you will be overjoyed! This is the place to go if you want to spend the day playing board games and taking a hike. Dinner is $25 per person, buffet style. For $25 I expect better quality than what was offered. Dinner rolls, very simple salad items (mixed greens, sliced tomatoes, shredded cheddar cheese (Kraft style), and some other veggie)- 2 kinds of dressing, fruit selection (pineapple, watermelon, strawberries), 2 entree dishes, starch of some kind or two, and two kinds of desserts. I know, you must be thinking, but that's not so bad. Choices and all you can eat! It's the quality of the food that I have a problem with. For how much you pay, the quality is just not there. Desserts are definitely sub-par, and the food is just okay. I would suggest skipping dinner there if you can. Breakfast is also disappointing. All carbs and no actual protein offered (eggs/bacon/sausage). You can special order eggs and sausage, but that's special ordering. Casseroles are okay (pancake and sausage or corned beef hash). Not the best, not the worst. And the cinnamon rolls on Sunday are good, and are indeed homemade. Will I stay here again? If it's for a Murder Mystery, maybe. I would definitely come for the day and enjoy the games and company. But for the price you pay, I don't think it is worth it.

Yelp
We love going to Bed and Breakfasts and this is one of the most unique ones in that it is built to look like an actual castle! It is surrounded by the beautiful Hocking Hill area and the grounds have gorgeous gardens and nature trails. The food is wonderful and you feel transported to another time and place! You won't regret deciding to stay there! The owners/staff are super friendly, helpful and welcoming!

Yelp
My wife and I are celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary and wanted to do something different. We've known about Ravenwood for quite a number of years but never stayed. We decided to book a cottage (Candlemaker's) for the weekend. If you're looking for a place to sit back and watch cable tv, talk to your friends on your cell phone, or relax in an indoor swimming pool this is NOT the place for you. If you want to relax in a quiet, wooded setting far from the hustle and bustle of life then Ravenwood is the place. The cottage we stayed in had a bed, tv with built-in DVD player, microwave, mini fridge, and bathroom with jacuzzi tub....not much else. We made reservations for dinner both Friday and Saturday night and, although a bit pricey ($25/person/night), the food wasn't too bad. Dinner is served buffet style and there was plenty to go around. Breakfast is included with the room rate and was also sufficient. The castle itself is very nice. If you're a gamer there are lots of D&D-style themed games. If you're into reading there is a library with all sorts of books. There is also a small collection of DVD's but if you want to watch movies you should probably stop at Redbox and pick a few out. The castle grounds are beautiful, although it was rainy and gloomy for most of our stay, but I personally like rainy and gloomy so it wasn't bad at all. There are 3 outdoor cats that seem to not like people so they're not much of a bother at all. The innkeepers just took over the day to day operations in December 2015 and seem to really know what they're doing. Preston and Amy Miller were very friendly and helpful, ready to give directions or suggestions on what to do in and around Hocking Hills. The rest of the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful as well, which is more than you can say for most staff at a run of the mill hotel. Again, if you're into having technology at your fingertips on a vacation getaway your best bet is to stay at a Holiday Inn. If you want to disconnect from reality for a few days then Ravenwood is the place to be.

Yelp
Absolutely the BEST get away in Ohio for a weekend! My wife surprised me with a trip here for our anniversary and it was the most fun, yet relaxing weekend we've had in a long time. If you like an escape from the hustle and bustle of day to day business in the city and have a fondness for the outdoors and board games, this is for you. The castle steward and his family are really fun, kind people that take pride in this business and it shows. Explore the surrounding parks and amazing restaurants during the day and head into the pub at night for a bottle of wine and card or board games... they have an abundance of both! A must visit for anyone who needs a relaxing, serene departure from the daily :) We will be back. Thanks Steve and crew

Yelp
After a horrible experience with a bed and breakfast almost two years ago, my husband and I finally tried again. And we were so pleased with Ravenwood Castle. We stayed in the Cinderella Coach House which was quaint and private. We used the fireplace most of the weekend and enjoyed the jacuzzi tub. The hot water, surprisingly, did not run out. We had the Beer and Cheddar soup at the pub which was amazing. The innkeeper gave us all kinds of beer recommendations and taught us how to play a new board game. We also ate breakfast and dinner at the castle and the food was really good. One mishap happened when our couples massage got moved back a day due to a sick masseuse. The next day only one masseuse could make it so we had our massages back to back. But the massage was better than my last Kenneth's trip and the innkeeper was so apologetic and sweet. It really worked out because we got an extra few hours of vacation. We drove to Athens for lunch one day and walked around the local shops, played board games the rest of the long weekend and ate good food. So relaxing and I would definitely recommend the castle.

Yelp
Super fun. Stayed in the dungeon. Cool looking room. Comfy bed. We utilized the board game offering - it was awesome and we ended up buying one later(they didn't sell that particular one there). Karington(sp?),the caretaker/barkeep/gamekeeper/concierge/short order cook was helpful and really fun to chat with as he is goldmine of board game info. Food was good as far as bar food goes. Only suggestion to the staff - Get postcards on the shelf! I wanted to send some to our friends but didn't see any!

Yelp
My wife, friends and I (6 total guests) were booked to stay at the Silversmith House (a room at Ravenwood Castle) the weekend of 2/5/2016 through 2/7/2016. We were there to participate in the Shadow Stalkers Harry Potter murder mystery. After spending Friday night at Silversmith House, my wife and I found evidence of 3 bed bugs in the upstairs bedroom Saturday morning. We took a photo of one of the bed bugs before flushing it down the toilet. We gave the bodies of the 2nd and 3rd bed bugs to the Ravenwood manager who took them out of our room in a Tupperware container. The manager on site called a pest inspector and helped us run all of our laundry in the dryer (high heat kills bed bugs). After that we checked out of Ravenwood, received a partial refund for not staying Saturday night and left at 10:45 AM. This complaint is being made for 2 reasons: 1. Ravenwood refuses to refund the majority of our payment for the weekend despite providing unacceptable living conditions. 2. Ravenwood still has not treated Silversmith for bed bugs and I believe they are putting future customers at risk.

Yelp
A few things you may want to know: They did NOT provide dinner when we were there. It was during their 'peak season' and they were completely booked. Luckily we called to ask what was on the menu to find out there was not going to be dinner! So we had to find food somewhere else in Hocking Hills, which can be very limited. We ended up going to a place called 'Grouse Nest' which was about 6 miles from Ravenwood (See Grouse Nest for my review). We saw other Ravenwood guests there as well, which we believe was because of the limited number of options. Their breakfast consisted of fruit, granola, cheerios, muffins, OJ, milk, and a breakfast casserole. The casserole one morning was a sausage and pancake casserole, and the next morning was a corn beef hash casserole. We wanted to check out the 'bar.' We rang the doorbell of the castle (as we were not staying in the castle) during the bar hours. When we asked if we could get a couple beers, the lady sounded a bit surprised by our request and that made us feel a bit awkward. We were the only people at the bar. We had to order how many beers we wanted for the night because the lady was leaving. Unfortunately, we did not get to experience the grounds as we wanted because it was terribly cold and rainy the days we were there. They do have hiking trails on the grounds. The Fairytale cabins are a hike from the castle. We never walked because it was approximately 3/4-1 mile and it was a hike up a hill. Had it not been raining, we could've walked it but we usually went to the castle for breakfast which was pretty early and we were on a schedule. I'd say if the weather was nice, this place wouldn't be a bad place. We had a cheaper room so it was fine; however, the castle rooms were way out of our price range for that type of experience. Especially since it's a 2 night minimum for weekends. Our room was a bit tacky, but we spent most of our time on the Hocking Hills hiking trails. It is better than camping in the cold, but if it were warmer I think I'd prefer camping for $9 a night as opposed to $90 a night for this experience. If you have kids at OU and have a hard time finding a hotel room and you don't mind the drive, I would recommend the cheaper rooms for night stays.

Yelp
A great experience! Board games and bevs at the castle, campfire and more games (and more bevs in our case) at the cabins. Another grill at the cabins and some WiFi at the castle would be nice. Otherwise, this is the perfect place for a getaway with friends or a weekend with the family.

Yelp
My husband and I had a wonderful weekend at the Woodcutter's Cottage at the Ravenwood Castle. I would strongly recommend this to anyone looking for a fun getaway. The cottage was spacious, clean and had fun decor to go along with the theme. Although it was cold outside, the cottage was warm and cozy and even had a fireplace. We spent time in the castle playing games in the Pub and enjoying the fabulous breakfasts. We did not have dinner in the castle but will take advantage of that next visit. The staff was attentive and fun, and they have a huge variety of games to play along with a library of books and DVDs.

Yelp
We stayed here one night midweek in early fall for a little getaway. I am happy we took our old SUV, the uphill drive to the castle wouldn't have been easy in my little sedan! When we arrived I was a little surprised at how close the cabins were to the main house, I had envisioned them being a drive down the road, but it was a two minute walk to the main castle. Admittedly, it was a bit weird walking into the castle. Being midweek while most people were at work/school the place was empty. We kinda stood there until someone came out of the office to help us check in. The woman who helped us was incredibly friendly and knew exactly which cabin we were in (Candle maker) when I gave her my name. The bed in the cabin was incredibly comfortable, and the sheets were super soft - I was afraid they would be cheap and scratchy! We spent a couple hours playing a long game of checkers while enjoying our fair share of adult beverages! (Which we were sure to bring ourselves, the beer prices at their pub are pretty pricey!) Like the other two reviews mention, there was no dinner provided when we were there either. However, we were prepared for this and since we were in a cabin we had our own little kitchenette. We simply sat outside on the (tiny) patio for our cabin and had our little microwaved dinners. I don't camp, so for me this was really great. I felt as though we got the outdoor experience all while having a whirlpool tub and a gas fireplace!

Yelp
Seriously, if you are coming for a murder mystery event, SAVE YOUR MONEY AND TIME!! Yes, the food was excellent, but that is about all the good things we could say about our three-night stay. Our room could not get above 65 in the cold weather. The furnishings are for looks, not comfort. We could not enjoy the Jacuzzi, because the downstairs was too cold. The tiny little TV - ONLY A DVD PLAYER - was not much comfort; about a 17" screen. No TV stations and no Wi-Fi. The mystery event was a horrible let-down! The foul-mouthed man who led it had very little scruples. He thought it funny to give bonus points to women who showed cleavage, and generally spoke derogatorily of those who believed in God to help them in life. His final 'words of wisdom' brought this clearly to light, as many could witness to. The mystery challenge itself was mediocre at best, demanding additional clues to constantly be asked for, as all who tried could attest to again. If you want to visit the beautiful Hocking Hills area, there are plenty of much more comfortable places to stay for the same money or less. Yes, I read a LOT of the other reviews, and wonder how so many people could rave about the place. It is an experience in the Castle hall, yes, but NOT a comfortable place to stay, when you have experienced so much better.

Yelp
Booked this hotel for 2 nights but didn't actually end up staying. Upon arrival the hotel is actually pretty cool looking, however the rooms are old, there are ZERO amenities such as a basic fridge,or a TV. We had an Infant so we needed this items for the stay. Also this hotel gets ZERO cell phone reception, theres one land line for all guests to share. I suppose if your going here to disconnect from the world or for a honeymoon it would be ideal, but when you have a child, not so much. Just keep in mind the important facts, 25 min from ANYTHING! in either direction, ZERO cell service for any provider, no fridge, no TV. Ended up finding nice cabin that night at entrance of Old Mans Cave which was PERFECT and actually cheaper, so all worked out great!

Yelp
Incredibly disappointing stay. Seems like a fun idea but execution is very weak. The decorations are poorly done (imagine cheap plastic shower curtains holding up bedding drapes) and everything felt old and cheap. But more importantly than that, it's not a restful stay. The walls between rooms are thin and I could hear everything in the adjoining room, in the pub, and on the patio outside my room. I could even hear the alarm of the guests staying in the room above me. Not restful or relaxing. Also, if you have a B&B out in the middle of nowhere, you should offer more food options than basic minimalistic pub food. The food was mediocre and service was slow and inattentive. The grounds are okay but not particularly well kept. There were large areas of mud and gunk in the parking area and on the trails. The people running the B&B are actually not pleasant and quite condescending when I brought up issues with our stay. Overall the entire stay was just not what I was hoping for, especially for the price. With so many choices in Hocking Hills this would definitely be at the bottom of the list.

Yelp
If you should go - DO NOT eat the buffet. We made reservations as recommended, we arrived at 7:00pm on the dot - there were already approximately 25 people seated and eating. When our group went up to eat they had run out of salad and pork. The chicken that was left, was raw. When we told the girl, she said that the one with the raw chicken could order something off the bar menu at no charge. Now, I am no genius but you are telling me you are going to give me a free $7.00 item to replace a paid for $25.00 item (by the way - that was limited also because they ran out of certain things), and that was only the one, the ones that did not get any food were not offered a thing. We went to the on site manager and he reluctantly deducted 3 meals and charged us for the bar menu item. I don't have a problem paying for what I get, but I should not have had to go and beg for this to be taken care of. The so called fabulous cinnamon rolls were very dry. The bar was also out of a lot of beers. The weeds had taken over the flower gardens. The raccoons had spread garbage all over. This could be such a nice place but the owners need to keep up with what it going on. There are so many nice places in this area to stay so I will never be returning here.

Yelp
Years ago we happened to be camping in the Hocking Hills area with our children (about 8 & 9 years old). We passed Raven Wood while out driving. Our youngest girl was so taken by it that she wanted to honeymoon there when she got married & did so in the gypsy cabin. She enjoyed it very much. So when my wife and I were going to celebrate our 40th anniversary in September, we wanted to do something special so we booked for this weekend (Nov 13 & 14). My wife has been getting ill the last week so I took her to the doctor. We found that she has to have her Gaul Bladder removed on Tuesday. For anyone who has had this problem they know how sick you can get. My daughter told me that since the owners were a family owned business they would probably be compassionate and refund all but the first night stay, especially since they had another couple on line to take our place. So I called them and told them of our problem and they said they couldn't refund any of the nights, only the reservation fee of $98.00. I offered to switch to another event after my wife's surgery, no way they said. My wife and I were really looking forward to this and we are not very wealthy and can't do these things very often. I know that they have a 14 day cancelation time limit, but under these extenuating circumstances I really felt like they could have understood especially since they had someone waiting in line for a room cancelation. This has upset us so that we don't think we can think of booking another weekend or recommend them to anyone else. They're response to this was, sorry about your luck. I realize that greed is the way of the world I just can't wrap my mind around it. Anyway I even sent them a copy of my wife's surgery orders.

Yelp
We stayed in Rapunzel's Suite at Ravenwood Castle for two nights. Everything was absolutely great. The castle is beautiful inside and out. Our room was spacious, clean, and the bed was so comfortable. During our short stay the weather changed quickly (as it does this time of year).......but between the fireplace, ceiling fan, and air conditioner, the room was always perfect. Breakfast in the morning was fresh fruit, cereals, OJ/water/coffee/tea, muffins, and a hot dish...the Berry French Toast Bake and Chocolate Chip Pumpkin Muffins were awesome. The innkeepers went out of their way to help us with anything we needed, Steve even took time out of his day to play games with us in the pub while my husband had a few beers. They did offer a very light menu for dinner, but we ended up grabbing food while we were out exploring nearby cities and parks (Amanda suggested some great places to visit and even printed out maps for us). Overall we were extremely happy with our stay here and we will definitely be going back as soon as we can.
