The food was delicious, the environment was beautiful, and the male waiter who took our order was very handsome. He made me want to drink a few more glasses of champagne. Hahaha!

Our waiter, older lady, was extremely rude and had an attitude like she was better than us customers. My boyfriend requested to have the steak without mushrooms and she told him it was of course possible. When we got our food she served him a plate with mushrooms and didn’t recall him requesting to remove the mushrooms. She explicitly accused him not letting her know in advance! Then the waitress proceeded to “make the dish again” - in reality she just scraped the mushrooms off the plate and served it as new in 2 minutes. He ate the steak but felt disgusted even thinking it had touched mushrooms. Rest assured, we will not be attending again.

Not satisfying the expectations. Nice place, well decorated, good atmosphere, however the food is not good at all. Very basic, simple, trying to mix flavours without any sense at all. Probably expensive for what you get, fish of the day was just grilled and nothing else. Beetroot carpaccio simple. Dessert was good really good. Maybe there are more options in Helsinki, will search…

Table by the window to look over our beautiful Esplanade. Clean and well kept Finnish-Swedish interior from our golden years. Good traditional food and excellent service. Happy to still have these traditions alive.

We went to celebrate our first time in Helsinki and boy was it an amazing experience! I personally had a Negroni that was just like I love! Than I had the salmon with a poached egg and it was delicious! For the desert, I had a full coconut desert and it was fresh and delicious! This restaurant is a bit pricey but in my opinion it's worth it, the ingredients are such high quality! Plus the waitress was adorable!

Unfortunately I have noticed a decline in quality and effort at Strindberg. Last time I went, the salad was mediocre and a joke; full of salad ends and brown bits in not only my salad but also my partners. Coffee wasn’t appetizing either. Service is always wonderful, and employees are lovely.

Tasty food with a little bit high price. Well, regarding its location, might be reasonable. Probably taking only main dish is more ideal. I had salmon with white asparagus and coconut parfait.

Yelp
Make him here at the recommendation of a friend who lives in town, based on her love of large cinnamon rolls. Hailing from the US, and specifically the Midwest in the recent past, a big cinnamon roll is literally the size of a dinner plate to us. This was unfortunately not the experience, but nonetheless the cinnamon rolls were lovely! They basically had the same cinnamon rolls that are available at nearly every other bakery, but to be fair, they were slightly larger. They had lots of additional pastries and desserts, which the little dudes loved! Everything we got was very good, presented nicely and priced like we were in Europe! We ended up with a number of pastries, one cinnamon roll and a couple of sandwiches. It was a really nice brunch and a good chance for everybody to rest for a little bit. The caffeinated drinks were also good. I had a simple latte, and it was just fine. My best half had tea and thoroughly enjoyed it. The place definitely has a little more upscale vibe, so coming in with a few kids seemed a bit out of the ordinary, but overall nobody seem to really care that much. And while the cinnamon rolls were not as large as we had hoped, Everything was as delicious as advertised. Definitely a good spot to check out if you're in town!

Yelp
This lovely restaurant is on the second floor of the café located below. It is a beautiful room with large windows, tons of light (at 8pm on a June evening), and the warm feel of someone's house. The wait staff was welcoming, even to those of use with ignorant questions about some of the dishes on the menu. They also made some excellent wine suggestions which really hit the spot. Our entire table ordered from the set menu - 3 courses including dessert. It was a choice of some typical Finnish dishes and was an excellent introduction to local cuisine. Toast Skagen (Shrimp salad on toast to us Americans) was terrific and a nice way to start the meal. Not too heavy and with the wait staff suggested dry Riesling it served as a gracious starting off point. Roasted Char was terrific - expertly cooked with crispy skin and perfectly medium on the interior. The potato terrine was very delicious, light, and nicely crunchy on the outside. Finally, the hit of the dinner for me was the Blueberry and Oatmeal crisp with fresh local blueberry's and a surprisingly pleasant sprinkling of salt throughout. This is an excellent place to get away from the crowds and enjoy a pleasant and pleasing meal.

Yelp
Strindberg is a cheerful, stylish place to have a cappuccino, light lunch or glass of champagne! It is located on Helsinki's beautiful Esplanade shopping street.

Yelp
Attention tourists! This place is a very good choice for a enjoyable coffee break. This awesomely elegant cafe is one of a kind. Strindberg has got that old fashion charm that most of the cafeterias in Helsinki don't have. The best thing is, that you can follow the life of Esplanadi from the window tables, enjoy city athmosphere in the terrace or listen the gossips of the regular clients (most of them house wives that have just been shopping all day or been at the hairdressers, since they don't have to work like we normal people). I just went to Strindberg with a friend today, and enjoyed a delicious Toast Skagen, delightful Bebe pastry and had so many cups of coffee. When you order a filter coffee, the refill is free, even if you ask for refill for five times. The service is awesome, athmosphere, well, priceless (literally pricy, since our total cost was 20€ each). Go there, and just enjoy!

Yelp
August Strindberg was a guy sort of known for changing his stripes throughout his life, but Strindberg doesn't change at all - It's the luxury coffee shop for Helsinki. They do a lot more than just coffee but it's a place that you'd expect in a film for a pivotal conversation. It's expensive, sort of pretentious, and full of people you'd probably never just get in a chat with. The trick is that if I was going to be doing a Kubrick film in Helsinki, I'd give this location for a part of it.

Yelp
Decent lunch option, but for us it was more expensive than it was worth. For some reason a lot of the restaurants in downtown had really, really short menus, and after a long ferry ride across the Baltic, I was looking for some options. Strindberg had more than most, but still a much shorter menu then I would expect from an upscale restaurant. The entree-sized chicken caesar was good, but could have used a bit more dressing and bit fewer croutons. The fish of the day (grilled arctic char) was well cooked, but just nothing special. Unfortunately, a caesar salad and grilled fish plus two sodas ended up coming to over $70, which is a bit much even by Scandinavian standards. In the end there was nothing wrong with the meal, and the decor and service were really quite good, but it just didn't leave us needing to come back any time soon.

Yelp
Small place upstairs but a good local vibe. Friendly service and good food. Go for dinner or have a drinj

Yelp
This is one of the old traditional cafes in Helsinki. Even though it just recently moved a little down the street it hasn't lost any of its charm. Big windows allow a perfect view over Esplanadi while inside the cafe combines modern simplicity with classic elegance. Sit down in one of the armchairs or sofas with a glass of hot drink and maybe a piece of their fabulous cakes and enjoy the city atmosphere.

Yelp
Cafe Au Lait is served in a cup (cereal bowl) that is huge!!! Club Sandwich was amazing and friendly staff as well....everyone in Finland seems to speak English....

Yelp
Just arrived in town and wanted a no frills, easy to figure out meal before jet lag overcame us. Stopped here early evening and snagged an outside table on the Esplanade. Service was crisp and helpful but not at all overbearing. Hubs had a smoked salmon salad that was generous, plentiful and tasty while I had a tomato mozzarella pie that was relish accompanied by a salad. With greens and roasted tomatoes bursting with flavor. We planned to linger a bit and people watch, but Mother Nature decided it was time to chase everyone home with a generous thunderstorm. Only complaint is that to maximize the space (bring in more revenue) the tables are beyond ridiculously close together.
