Rayar mess - 5/5 👌🏻 • Rayar Mess was established by Mr. Srinivasa Rao in the 1940s. • It is located on Arundale Street and is known for its traditional South Indian cuisine. • The cafe serves breakfast from 7 A.M. to 10 A.M. and evening tiffin from 3 P.M. to 6 P.M. • The food quality, freshness, and exceptional taste make every meal at Rayar’s an effort worth making. • The street is always bustling with customers eagerly waiting their turn for the delectable idlis and vadas, which are served on a first-come, first-served basis.

“Rayar Mess is a hidden gem for authentic South Indian breakfast lovers. Known for its humble ambiance and traditional flavors, this place offers a nostalgic culinary experience. Their melt-in-the-mouth idlis, crispy dosas, and flavorful chutneys are the stars of the menu. The sambar, with its rich, homely taste, complements the dishes perfectly. While the seating is basic and limited, the warmth of the food and quick service more than make up for it. A must-visit spot for those seeking an old-school dining experience in Chennai.” Highly recommended!!!

A small mess which serves tasty pongal , crispy vadas & sponge idly with only 10 seating capacity hidden inside a conjested locality. Pongal with white chutney is a must try especially with their vadas . Thick chutney was also good which costs 10₹ seperately. Podi & ghee also costs extra. Place is always busy , so plan ur visit . If u are visiting after 7:00 AM , u have to wait for minimum 10 mins. Dosa varieties are available for dinner & bajji , bondas are available for Evening snacks. Recommended !

First of all people who have given 1-2-3 Star Ratings are not comparing it with Mess. People who have reviewed with 1 Star are comparing its ambience with restaurant, So i would request furtherly to give review according to mess. You must have to reach by 6.30am to have breakfast without waiting for long time, As i went three times in past one year but never got chance due to heavy rush. To have a unique experience with staffs & owner making us to feel home like food and service. Feeding us more to make sure we are fulfilled. Have tried many restaurants and mess but in Rayar's Mess i found something very unique was their trust on us. They ask us what all we ate so that they can bill it. Ambience is quiet small but comfortable., Food Quality is beyond our imagination as they serve it on our table directly from the stove. Must Try : Vada : 10/10 Thick Chutney : 10/10 (Along with sambar & Idly)

One of the over-hyped mess. No taste no hygiene simply waste. We expected a lot and went to have morning breakfast after waiting for more than 20mins they allowed us inside first thing after entering into the mess we felt like why we had chosen this place to have breakfast 🤮. No hygiene at all after all it is very small and they have 3 tables where it can occupy 12 members at a time. Morning menu which they have Idly - worst idly i had in my entire life till now it was very sticky and half baked (not at all recommend ) Pongal - No taste at all worst one. Simply waste Vada - too small and not upto mark compare to above two this somewhat ok Sambar it's not at all sambar it's like water taste plain Chilly chutney very very danger have it on your own risk Idily podi and gee somewhat ok (But we need to pay extra charge) Gatti chutney ok but same for this also we need to pay extra charge) That's it menu is idly, pongal, vada After finishing the breakfast we had coffee the only thing which we felt some what good here is coffee apart from that all are simply waste it is over hyped by recent social meadi trends... Don't get fooled like us by going to Rayar's mess

Old style mess in mylapore . I had Rava Dosa and idly ,it was good. Coffee was good ,Chutney and sambar was ok ok only. They have limited seating for 10 or so only.so you may have to wait outside .the place could be more cleaner and hygienic if they can invest little on infrastructure.the price very reasonable .
