Readings Hawthorn

Just visited Readings Kids with my 2 small kids. My 5 year old just sat down quietly with one display book and the older lady with curly grey hair snapped at him ‘careful, it’s not a library’. There were several other kids flipping through multiple books yet my brown child was singled out. I wanted to buy my son the book but she wouldn’t acknowledge me - only acknowledging my white husband when he walked in. I didn’t want to give them business so I walked out and will purchase elsewhere. Sort your staff out. Microracism exists.

Good variety of books, unfortunately staff aren’t very friendly, the older lady in the kids bookshop section seems very irritable she doesn’t like when younger kids touch the books and was very rude about it. Won’t be coming back to the kids section…… my 3 year old had just picked up a single book and made a comment about how it’s “ not a library they shouldn’t be touching the books”

First time I’ve visited in the new location. It’s retained the ‘Readings’ feel which is good. Great selection and good recommendations as always.

Really cute bookstore w a dedicated kids section that the kids are free to browse and read books. The staff member are so helpful and have had some wonderful recommendations

My favourite book store. You can get anything from the book world here, from high quality collectors edition hard copies, book signings by well known authors, new arrivals, old books, anything! I always get my books from here because they are always in peak condition and untouched. The prices are a bit higher than places like Kmart and big w, but if you want the best quality, always go here.

Nice, upscale book shop which is surrounded by good food and cafes. Friendly and helpful staff too.
