"Real Guts Cafe is a mecca for Taiwanese cinephiles. Stocked with movie paraphernalia and books, it is the brainchild of Taiwanese director Wei Te-sheng, whose Cape No. 7 was Taiwan’s second highest-grossing movie of all time and achieved the longest theatrical release in the island’s cinematic history. The food is typical cafe fare: coffees, teas, sandwiches, waffles. For something more substantial, they do a decent barbecued pork, sliced into thin pieces, paired with a sunny side-up egg and served over rice. There are grilled rice balls and bright salads. Even local craft beer if one is so inclined. However, the food is secondary because the main draw at Real Guts is the decor. There are old film cameras, director clapboards from Wei’s movie sets, and two real Golden Horse awards (considered the Oscars of Chinese-language cinema) on display. There’s also an entire bookshelf brimming with storyboards and set design drafts, plus a merchandise section selling miscellanea like T-shirts of endemic Taiwanese animals. While it’s all a bit chaotic, Real Guts draws a consistent crowd of work-from-home folks and students, who like the floor-to-ceiling windows and lush foliage that hangs from the nooks and crannies of the space. Stocked with a reasonable amount of outlets and Wi-Fi, it is a relaxing place to pull up a laptop and get some work done. Know Before You Go The space occasionally holds temporary art exhibitions and film screenings. Event listings are announced on their Facebook page." - clarissawei

Very unique dishes and drinks in a quiet and beautiful space! The rice balls were at the perfect crispness and the BBQ pork slices were just right. Highly recommend to try if you need a reset from your travels or just need a change in palette from all the other delicious local foods.

came in at 2:31pm timestamp, we left the store at 3:18pm 🙂 speechless. almost an hour wait for 2 cups of drinks, which is utterly unacceptable, the guy who is the barista was doing the coffee orders damm slow then the lady took over and started to churn out my order. most of the tables her - get their FOOD SERVED first, then only drinks. if you going to run your business this slow, your turnover rate will be bad team. better check who is brewing the coffee guys, won’t come back!! 🤡🤡🤡🤡 clown

Nice place to relax and chat with friends. It's cozy and has a ton of Taiwanese movie paraphernalia you can explore while you wait for your food and drinks. The menu is pretty extensive as well, with most of the food meant to be shared ("family-style").

Super friendly staff and offering very unique foods. There are many props from very famous movies made by the director - Wei Te-Sheng from Taiwan. If you are a fan of those movies, don't miss it!

Classic movie decorations are featured in this restaurant. Their food feature many rice dishes with pork which tasted really good. As for their dessert, I wish they had more options other than waffles in different flavors. Good first time experience.

Hidden in a small ally nearby Huashan 1914 Park, the restaurant is famous for its traditional Char Sui (barbecued pork, 叉燒) Rice. This one is accompanied by a half-boiled fried egg and plenty fresh scallions on top. The soy sauce is perfectly right. The other dish we ordered was the spicy stewed chicken. Meet was very tender, juicy and full of flavors. However, portion of the rice was very dry and hard. Both of the main dishes are accompanied by 3 side dishes. Can join the line friend to get discount and latest information of the restaurant. Environment is awesome cause it’s based on movie scenes and decorations. Services are great with reasonable price.

I originally stumble upon this spot while walking around this area. Its a super cute ig worthy spot for pictures. I thought the food was alright, nothing special.. My friends and I did enjoy their Cha siu egg rice and the fruit mochi waffle with honey. We also got a salad which looked big but there wasn't much to it other than a couple slices of chicken, tomatoes. It consisted mostly of ice berg lettuce. Overall, the 3 of us spent 280nt each with no drinks.
