The Best Things to Do in Dubrovnik, Croatia's Ambling Seaside City | Condé Nast Traveler

"Steeped in the history of the Republic of Ragusa, the Rector's Palace is an atmospheric Gothic–Renaissance–Baroque museum where each elected rector once lived for a month; inside you can wander the former government's rooms, the rector’s private quarters and bedchamber, and the old prison cells, and—if you're lucky—catch a classical concert in its Renaissance atrium." - Katie Monk

"The most important public building in the time of the Ragusan Republic, the Rector’s Palace was home to Dubrovnik's ruler during his one-month mandate, the period when he was separated from his family to focus solely on matters of state. An inscription above the doorway to the meeting room says it all: "Forget your private concerns when working for the public." Today, the magnificent Venetian-style palace is a cultural history museum."

The Rector's Palace is absolutely a must-see destination in Dubrovnik. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here, completely captivated by the building's amazing architecture. The blend of different styles is truly beautiful and offers a deep dive into the history. The entire palace provides a wonderful insight into the city's past governance and noble life. For Game of Thrones fans, you should not miss this location. A major plus for visitors is that entry is included if you have the Dubrovnik Pass, making it fantastic value. As a bonus, the palace frequently hosts temporary exhibitions, and the war photo exhibition we saw was incredibly powerful and moving. Plan to spend at least an hour absorbing the history and beauty here.

Google
Fascinating Palace and museum , lots of period furniture and antiquities. Even a room dedicated to Dubrovniks former tram system. I especially liked the jars from the old pharmacy and the wonderful cabinet with all the pictures. Highly recommended, good short film about the history of Dubrovnik and the earthquake in 1667.

I visited Rector’s Palace in Dubrovnik mainly because I’m a big Game of Thrones fan — some scenes were filmed here, which made it extra exciting. The palace itself is incredible, with a beautiful mix of Gothic and Renaissance architecture, elegant arches, grand halls, and intricate details that tell the story of Dubrovnik’s rich history. The museum inside provides insight into the city’s past, displaying artifacts, portraits, and period furniture. Depending on your interest, it can be covered in about an hour or less. It’s best to visit with the Dubrovnik Day Pass, as the entrance is included — that way you save paying extra and can combine it with other sites. Highly recommend it for history buffs, architecture lovers, and Game of Thrones fans alike.

Google
A beautiful historical building, with iconic stairs and courtyards. The rooms are a little underwhelming, nothing particularly interesting in them except maybe some unique chests and a few statues. We were there maybe 30 minutes max, and a lot of that was spent admiring the stairs since we skipped the transport exhibit section after peering in. I do think €15 is steep for what it is. If it wasn’t part of the Dubrovnik pass I’m not sure I would pay to enter.

This is part of the Dubrovnik Pass so we went in and were pleasantly surprised! The art work, furniture and clocks are all impressive but DO NOT MISS the war pictures exhibit on the ground floor in the back. A reminder of the early 1990s here in Dubrovnik!

Rector’s palace is a must see in Dubrovnik old town. You get the chance to see probably the most historical building in the city and learn a lot about the history and the culture of the city. What most people don’t know and they don’t advertise it in the museum is that you can download the free IOS app of the museum and it has an amazing audio guide in Croatian and English. Our experience was so much better due to the audio guide and we have noticed many things that we would otherwise miss. Definitely check it out if you are in the city and make sure you buy the Dubrovnik city pass before hand since the entrance of the palace is included.

Buy the Dubrovnik Pass, it pays for the old city wall walk at 40 Euros, and you get access to many museums and attractions. Rector's Palace is one of them, right in the heart of the old city. We really enjoyed the beautiful courtyard and staircases. There's a few levels and things to see in the Palace, likely won't take more than 30min.

Just to note, the Rector's Palace and Cultural-Historical museum are one and the same place. The museum is inside the palace. A great & varied collection of things here. Starting with a collection of religious art you move on to portrait paintings of celebrated citizens of Dubrovnik. Then a collection of stoneworks and old wood/iron chests for storage if valuables. Don't miss the display on the ground floor of b&w photos from the war years of 1991/92. Follow the stairs upto rooms on the first floor for a fine collection of furnishings and paintings. Includes the well known oil painting "The Rape of the Sabine Women" by Pietro da Cortona.
