"The most important public building in the time of the Ragusan Republic, the Rector’s Palace was home to Dubrovnik's ruler during his one-month mandate, the period when he was separated from his family to focus solely on matters of state. An inscription above the doorway to the meeting room says it all: "Forget your private concerns when working for the public." Today, the magnificent Venetian-style palace is a cultural history museum."

Buy the Dubrovnik Pass, it pays for the old city wall walk at 40 Euros, and you get access to many museums and attractions. Rector's Palace is one of them, right in the heart of the old city. We really enjoyed the beautiful courtyard and staircases. There's a few levels and things to see in the Palace, likely won't take more than 30min.

Rector’s palace is a must see in Dubrovnik old town. You get the chance to see probably the most historical building in the city and learn a lot about the history and the culture of the city. What most people don’t know and they don’t advertise it in the museum is that you can download the free IOS app of the museum and it has an amazing audio guide in Croatian and English. Our experience was so much better due to the audio guide and we have noticed many things that we would otherwise miss. Definitely check it out if you are in the city and make sure you buy the Dubrovnik city pass before hand since the entrance of the palace is included.

Just to note, the Rector's Palace and Cultural-Historical museum are one and the same place. The museum is inside the palace. A great & varied collection of things here. Starting with a collection of religious art you move on to portrait paintings of celebrated citizens of Dubrovnik. Then a collection of stoneworks and old wood/iron chests for storage if valuables. Don't miss the display on the ground floor of b&w photos from the war years of 1991/92. Follow the stairs upto rooms on the first floor for a fine collection of furnishings and paintings. Includes the well known oil painting "The Rape of the Sabine Women" by Pietro da Cortona.

If you’re exploring Dubrovnik’s Old Town, don’t miss the Rector’s Palace. Once home to the rector of the Republic of Ragusa, it now serves as a museum that captures the city’s political and cultural history. Not many visitors know that there’s a free iOS app with an excellent audio guide in English and Croatian—it makes the whole experience much more engaging and helps you notice details you might otherwise pass by. Pro tip—get the Dubrovnik Full Pass in advance, since entry to the palace is already covered

A beautiful building with a range of small exhibits, from war photography, old statues and chests to the palace rooms with vases and other aesthetic furniture. Past the first area there wasn't a lot of information. Toilets are available inside as is a seating area with a coffee machine. You can enter for free with the 10 Museums Pass (cheaper than the Durbvonik Pass).

Rector's Palace is ABSOLUTELY a must - see in Dubrovnik!! Especially if there are any events or concerts being held inside. For our wedding anniversary, my father treated us to an unforgettable and stunning opera performance by soprano Sonya Yoncheva and pianist Malcolm Martineau, inside of Dubrovnik's incredibly beautiful Rector's Palace. Their performance was one of many that are a part of Dubrovnik's Summer Festival. It's an understatement to say that I will never forget the impact of Sonya's beautiful and versatile voice, and the joy I felt listening to each of her arias and songs while sitting alongside my husband, dad, and father-in-law. I really, really loved her performance of Ideale. An absolutely breathtaking concert - down to the acoustics inside the atrium, the renaissance style of art, both of her outfits, and the red rose petals she was throwing throughout the stage. This concert was positively one that I will treasure for the rest of my life!! The beautiful palace offered a backdrop that felt both intimate and majestic, creating a unique dialogue between history and performance. Few venues manage to unite cultural heritage with artistic expression as seamlessly as Rector’s Palace. Whether for grand operatic moments or the delicate intimacy of chamber music, it provides not just a stage, but an unforgettable sense of occasion.

A museum inside a palace with a interesting collection and an up and down visit if the palace. Most impressive were the Jacquemarts. Downside is no air conditioning on an extremely hot day. Souvenir shop is rather expensive

This is the centerpiece of Old Town’s history. This a wonderful starting point to learn about Old Town’s heritage, architectural legacy, interior decoration, and even to gain insights on the 1991 independence struggle. The space also offers interior places to relax and appreciate the ambiance.
