TL:DR - Overpriced/poor quality.
I really wanted to love this spot. I ordered an iced coffee and mini key lime pie, which was NOT a key lime pie, but really a pudding surrounded by soggy, sweaty, damp 'crust'. After a single bite, I pushed the plate away (blech!) and just drank my coffee.
At checkout, I returned the barely touched pie to the cashier, explaining it was inedible. Without a visible trash bin, I preferred to hand it over rather than slide a dish with food back into the dish return. She apologized and asked me if I wanted something else, (I didn't), but I opted for a stuffed donut anyway, as it seemed she was offering to make good on the inedible 'pie'. I wasn't expecting anything, but typically when a customer tells a restaurant that something is inedible, they either replace it for something else or remove the charge. Not here!
Imagine my surprise when she rung me up and the total was $25?! A closer look revealed the coffee ($3) and both the pie ($14) AND the consolation donut ($7) on the tab. She said she lacked the authority to remove the charge for the pie, so I told her "I get that, but you're going to charge me for the consolation donut too?" She said she couldn’t give me a 'free' donut, so I asked her to just remove the donut and begrudgingly paid for something I didn't even eat. I essentially paid $18 for an iced coffee. Hence, this review.
Irvington offers many lovely cafes - this one proved disappointing. I rarely leave negative reviews, yet this experience calls for a fair warning. SKIP!
