22 Best Things to Do in Palm Springs, California

"Open‑air red‑vehicle excursions that explore remote corners of the region; the San Andreas Fault Tour, for example, takes guests about a mile into the center of the fault zone with stops for a nature walk and a visit to a recreated Cahuilla village to learn about seismology and Indigenous history." - Stacey Leasca Stacey Leasca Stacey Leasca is an award-winning journalist and co-founder of Be a Travel Writer, an online course for the next generation of travel journalists. Google
This was more than just a jeep ride. Tom our driver and guide has an amazing wealth of knowledge which he shared with us. We did the San Andreas Fault Tour, which included breath taking scenery and walks through the area. We definitely recommend this tour. We learned so much history of the area.

Google
I'd like to thank our tour guide, Pace, for driving us through the San Andreas fault zone. It was an amazing tour in which I learned about the powerful forces between the 2 plates grinding and pulverizing the ground on which we stand. I enjoyed learning about the indigenous Indians, the animal and plant life. There is so much to learn. I highly recommend this tour for anyone interested in learning more about the San Andreas fault.

Google
Stunning. Pictures do not do it any justice, you have to see it! We were fortunate enough to have LeRoy as our guide, and the man was born to do this job. Super knowledgeable, but it's his spiritual connection to the land that stands out. He gave us an experience we will never forget!

Kimberly Scott

Google
This was a fabulous tour. Our guide, Teresa, was a great driver and was fun, interesting, and informative. All of the stops were great. We were able to get some great photographs and especially loved the little trek through a slot canyon. I would definitely recommend this desert San Andreas fault tour!

Google
We went on the Red Jeep Tour with LeRoy as our driver and guide- I highly recommend the tour but even better with LeRoy as the guide. he explained the land creation, the plants and how they grow and more importantly HOW they got there and how they grow. I loved his information about the native people, migration and their creation story. PURE WOW - all I can say - if you are in Palm Springs GO!

Google
The San Andreas Fault tour exceeded our expectations. Timo was a great guide, so knowledgeable, we learned a lot! Very pleased with all the interactions I had with Red Jeep Tours from booking the tour itself to the actual tour.

Google
We all enjoyed the San Andreas Fault. Butch was extremely informative, interesting and he entertainined all our questions. We loved that we got to smell and sample the medicinal and cooking spices from the plants that were used the Cahulla Indians. Couldn’t imagine a more interesting and knowledgeable guide. Butch was fabulous.

Google
We took the San Andreas Tour with Richard - AKA "Rickipedia". Outstanding, Rick was so knowledable and interesting and added his unique humour to his narration. Fabulous time with our friends. I highly recommend this tour and Richard.

Yelp
I enjoyed a wonderful tour to the San Andreas fault with jeep tour guide Steve. Steve, having a degree in history & geology, was very informative ! He told k us to a desert Palm oasis, a recreated Indian village, a trek up a slot canyon, and the rift line of the San Andreas fault. Steve provided cold water, cold wash cloths, and even spritzes of water . I highly recommend this amazing tour in a jeep.

Yelp
After researching Red Jeep Tours and reading reviews online, I decided to call and book a tour. I spoke with a Nicole when I called to ask a few more questions, and subsequently booked a tour for my family and myself. We arrived and was told Ron would be our tour guide. We introduced ourselves to Ron and could not wait to experience everything. Ron had brought water and snacks for anyone who would like one. Also restrooms were available at certain locations. I enjoyed learning about . The Cahuilla called their dome houses a kish, pronounced like the word quiche. Some were as large as 15 or 20 feet across. The house was made from bending willow branches covered with palm fronds, tule or whatever plant material was available. Each house had a front opening and a hearth in the center of the floor. A hole was left open at the top of the roof for the smoke to escape. Tule mats covered the doorway and the dirt floor. Other What a educational experience learning about the San Andreas fault near Palm Springs. Some areas visited (upfill from fault) seemed from another planet. Ron, was knowledgeable and had a very engaging personality. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone coming to the area, as it and Ron exceeded our expectations! We enjoyed our group that was with us we all shared photos. After our tour Ron had hot towels to clean up after the tour. We left a jacket and Ron kindly dropped it off after. I also had my mother in law and Ron was very attentive making sure she was comfortable, warm. We will be back !

Yelp
Have used them numerous times. Can't say enough good things about them. Professional, punctual, friendly, great experience! Never been disappointed. In the past, Black feather was a great tour guide. Have used Landy recently and he's great, funny, and knowledgeable. You won't be disappointed. Give them a shot!

Yelp
My relatives and family visited from England and New York. They took the Red Jeep tour and were amazed. A fantastic fact filled journey. From now on when I have visitors I will make sure that they take a Red Jeep tour for an unforgettable tour.

Yelp
There are thrills on this jeep tour but probably not the kind you may have experienced on other jeep tours. The thrills you will experience here include some terrific views, learning how and why the earth and rocks were formed and look the way they do, and visiting sites where native people once lived. You are going to do a little hiking and hill/rock climbing and you will probably get a little hot and sweaty but you are in the desert so buck up, buttercup. Wear a hat and probably sunscreen, seriously. The jeeps are stocked with a cooler of water bottles and breakfast bars. Music plays throughout the tour and is designed to sync with where you are or what you are viewing. The tour is a full three hours plus and I would say that, although kids are welcome, the length would probably seriously test their patience. If you have children, you be the judge. You will probably see some interesting birds and lizards and you will definitely see some plants that just may be completely edible. Following our guide's lead, we sampled a number of different wild plants that you would probably never think to try and it's a fascinating experience. Our guide was Jennie and she knows this area inside and out. It is not a cheap tour, and remember, it is not a "thrills" tour where your vehicle scales vertical rocks, but, if you are interested in history, geology, and generally, life in the desert, this will be right up your alley. Make sure you tip your guide. They are out there working hard for you.

Yelp
We went on the Red Jeep Tour for San Andreas Fault. Our guide Christopher "Chris" Francis was great. He was very knowledgeable and let us get out and look around. He was fun and made our trip memorable.

Yelp
You HAVE to book a red jeep tour while in Palm Springs. It was my absolutely favorite experience while visiting. We saw SO MUCH and learned so much from our amazing and fun tour guide "captain" Morgan! We toured the Oasis and San Andreas Fault and enjoyed a picnic lunch in the middle of the desert!

Yelp
The San Andreas Fault excursion was more exciting and fun than I imagined. Bouncing along privately owned land as we explored geological wonders, and the exceptional, untouched beauty of the barren, yet bountiful desert, our experience was all at the hand of our amazing and wonderful guide, Craig Hughes. This was not to be missed. Honestly, I'm surprised to say that. I figured it would just be a little jeep ride and a couple stops to look at some sand and rocks and palm trees. No! It was much more because of Craig's ability to tell a story, keep it interesting, and make the learning an adventure of its own. Craig was neither too geeky nor "surface-y" as we and our Jeep-mates hopped in and out to explore canyons and historical sites. The Jeep ride was pretty great, too!
google avatar

Yelp
Such a cool experience! Definitely glad I found this tour. Jeep driver takes you way up into the mountains, into deep crevices over the San Andreas Fault. Our driver Craig was excellent! So knowledgeable about both the science of geology and the Indigenous People who once lived there. Super neat old CJ 8 Jeeps from the 80's, too. Highly recommend doing this tour.

Kathleen H.

Yelp
The Red Jeep Tour was phenomenal and our guide Christopher was too!! He provided us with a wealth of information and informed us of the history of the Aqua Caliente Indians, geology of the terrain, plants, etc! Highly recommend! Christopher, thank you again!! The Lavender Bistro was a perfect dining experience after the Red Jeep Tour!

Yelp
As much as I wanted to "jump jeep" and explore this little oasis. Our observant and careful guide Jim wouldn't have it. He followed the protocol of his day and met my expectations of "no man, woman or child be left behind. So under his watchful eye we proceeded to enjoy a great day driving the desert terrain and stopping to take in her magnificent views. I'm a big fanatic of the sustainable wild and Jim's knowledge of the desert plant life was a sure plus! Happy trails everyone! RedJeep RockZ -Z

Yelp
We had Bob as our driver ! And he was so good to us! We went for a bachelorette trip to PS and decided to do the jeep tour. Our trip started at 8 which was perfect bec the morning time does get hot fast! Bob took amazing pictures of us during the ride and told us the history of the land while keeping us hydrated and snacks! Thank you for a fun experience!
google avatar

Yelp
Teresa was an extremely insightful and engaging guide, also great navigating off-road through some tight spots! Highly recommend this intimate tour in and around the desert mountains, must see experience!

Yelp
My family (4 adults, 2 seniors, and a precocious 6 year old) had a fantastic time on our tour with Christopher in the "Scorpion King." We saw a lot of unique geology and flora that we wouldn't have made it to otherwise. Great tour! I highly recommend calling the office directly to book, the staff there helped apply AAA discounts.

Delah P.

Yelp
Had a wonderful time taking the San Andreas Fault tour with our tour guide Craig. He was very knowledgeable and friendly. Really enjoyed the tour and met some nice people in our tour group. Everyone was friendly. I learned a lot on the tour and would highly recommend. They even include bathroom breaks (port-a-potties) out in the wilderness. They also provide water and granola bars.

Mary M.

Yelp
Couldn't have asked for a better experience. Our Guide, Darrell picked us up at our hotel with a warm welcome and he arrived early. My husband booked the San Andres Fault tour and Darrell was amazing with all the details about the the fault, tectonic plates, plants, trees and history. We absolutely loved every minute. We highly recommend

Yelp
So, we just took a tour with Jennie of the Red Jeep Tours and all I can say is WOW!!! The excitement that Jennie had toward her job was amazing. We were with her for about 3 hours and every minute was filled with wonder. Her knowledge of the area and history of the Coachella Basin was just great. She has put together a music playlist that is so fun. I learned so much about the area and the plants from her. Also we learned what the plants were used for by the Native American people. And what a great smile Jennie has. Thanks again for being a great tour guide.
google avatar

Trish C.

Yelp

Yelp
Thank you for the sore neck you're not really facing forward you're facing looking at each other. Turning your neck constantly to see ahead of you or see things would I recommend this no. (STAY AWAY)
google avatar

Hannah G.

Yelp
We did the San Andreas fault tour. Had an amazing time that exceeded my expectations. Our guide Bruce was amazing, a Bear Heart indeed. Knowledgeable and able to make us all laugh, 3 hours felt like 30 minutes. This tour is so informative I learned so many new things about the landscape and the natives that once inhabited it. I want to mention again how incredible Bruce was, felt like my own uncle taking me for a trip, I'm really glad we got him as our tour guide! Would highly recommend this tour for anyone wanting to do something of the beaten path.
google avatar

Yelp
Such a great experience if you're in the area! Gina was so thorough and knowledgeable - they shared so much fascinating information about the area and geology. Gina also made sure we were hydrated and well taken care of as there was a heat wave the weekend we chose to go. Definitely recommend doing this trip during cooler months or early in the morning. Thanks, Gina!
google avatar

Terrie S.

Yelp
I took the San Andreas fault tour today. I am less afraid of it now! It is desert with a story. Our guide was fabulous. She shared stories about plants, geography, history and especially the Cahuilla tribes. It was fascinating and starkly beautiful. Next time I want to go up the ladders. Joshua tree is my next adventure. Thank you Jennie!!!
google avatar

Tracey F.

Yelp
Just the best way to spend a Palm Springs morning! Our guide, Chris, was super knowledgeable about the geology and history of the area. Really educational for the kids and interesting for all thanks Chris!!

Jeannette A.

Yelp
We just enjoyed another San Andreas Fault jeep tour. I have been several times over the years but find it so fascinating... I look forward to go when I have other friends/family in town. Morgan (our guide/driver) is so knowledgeable and nice. I highly recommend this business. They will never disappoint you. Thank you again Morgan for making our adventure so fun! We had lunch following our trip and we all shared our favorite takeaway from ALL the information Morgan taught us about this beautiful oasis. I can't wait to go on another tour to learn more about our beautiful valley.

Catherine K.

Yelp
our guide Christopher was incredibly knowledgeable and enthusiastic. His wealth of knowledge and love for his job was evident throughout the tour. Highly recommend this adventure.

Paula R.

Yelp
Today I had the most wonderful guide Jennie. She has knowledge, personality and the love of her job that was convade To her tour people. She's the best.

Karen D.

Yelp
Our family of five booked a private 3-hour Red Jeep tour through the San Andreas Fault Zone as part of a birthday celebration for one of our daughters. We were greeted, educated, transported and entertained by the most delightful guide, Bonnie. We have lived in the Coachella Valley for many years and never been exposed to the quiet and natural beauty of this part of the desert that is reserved for the guests of the Red JeepTours! During our excursion, Bonnie made sure we had cold water, snacks, bathroom breaks and plenty of photo ops to create lasting memories of a special day!

Yelp

Yelp
Our family had an amazing time! Greg, our tour guide was very friendly, knowledge, and a great host. All PPE equipment was in use, masks, anti-bacterial sprays, etc. San Andreas Fault tour was spectacular.. felt like scenes out of Star Wars. Family friendly. Highly recommended. Thank you Greg!!
google avatar

Morgan K.

Yelp
We had a great experience on our jeep tour! Bob was our guide and he was exceptional! He gave great information and made it so fun to learn and experience the Fault. Definitely add this jeep tour to your vacation and request to have Bob as your guide for a top notch experience!
google avatar

T P.

Yelp
We didn't feel the tour was worth the money. For $150 per person we expected a better experience. What we got was ok, but we feel for that experience the price should be half the cost what we paid.
google avatar

Rebecca M.

Yelp
Bob K was a wonderful tour guide! Very knowledgeable and passionate about what he does. The slot hiking was pretty cool to walk through and to learn about how they were all formed. It was so interesting learning about the Indian tribe that had once lived along this fault line. Very informative!

Liz C.

Yelp
Best ever tour. Ask for Jenny. Knowledgable, friendly, attentive, Highly recommend.
google avatar

Bayley L.

Yelp
Such a fun and unique desert adventure! Our wonderful guide, Travis, was incredibly entertaining and informative. His knowledge of the desert was so impressive and it was interesting to learn so much about the land, the nature, the natives and the history of the desert. The views of the desert were just breathtaking!
google avatar

Gaby F.

Yelp
Would definitely recommend! Scenery is beautiful! My husband and I had such a wonderful time...Our tour guide Ron was very informative. Would suggest early morning tour if your trying to stay out of really hot temperatures.
google avatar

Brian S.

Yelp
We had a very nice adventure tour with our guide, Ron. We arrived on time even though one our other riders not in our group called and showed up late. But Ron was very professional and informative at the beginning allowing a few extra minutes for the late group to show up. Even though we started late, the entire trip was fun and we learned so much about the local area, the Indian Village, San Andreas fault line and geology among many other historical things. Overall, we recommend this tour and would love to do it again on our next visit to the Indio area.
google avatar

Ivy H.

Yelp
We had a fantastic time on the Red Jeep tour, despite the oppressive heat in the desert this time of year. Our guide, Landy, was not just a great driver, he was exceptional as both a geologist and historian as well. We learned about the San Andreas fault and how it has transformed the landscape of the valley, as well as a history of the native tribes that originally settled the area. He was a pleasure to hang out with! We highly recommend this tour.
google avatar

Deb J.

Yelp
Amazing tour with Mike as our guide. He was very informative, and made the tour very entertaining. The oasis and slot canyons where so cool, plus it was a beautiful day. The tour was customized for our group of 5. Highly recommend red jeep tours and Mike. We hope to do another tour in the future.

Eleni W.

Yelp
This tour surpassed my expectations. Bill was a fantastic guide. So informative and very friendly. Plenty of water, sunscreen, and snacks were provided to make our ride more comfortable. Given that it was a very hot summer day, we were provided cool clothes to help beat the heat. I would 100% recommend this tour.

Lori F.

Yelp
Everything was excellent with our tour today, it could have been a little cooler but Landy kept us well hydrated and supplied cold wet towels. My husband, son and I learned so much, Landy our guide was fantastic, knowledgeable and super friendly, he was born and raised in PS so we felt like we got a little extra! I will definitely be encouraging friends and family to take this tour, we left feeling smarter!

Kim H.

Yelp
Butch was a terrific guide. Very informative and engaging. Everyone in the red jeep had a great time.
google avatar

Eric K.

Yelp
What a great afternoon tour. Travis was informative and entertaining. It's an amazing area and having a tour guide who can provide insights and historical information made the trip all that more worthwhile. Travis said the recent rains will help the spring bloom in the March-May time. I might have to come back and enjoy another tour.
google avatar

Steven L.

Yelp
Great tour. The desert is fascinating and our tour guide did an excellent job.

Carolyn S.

Yelp
I highly recommend Red Jeep Tours. First of all, their customer service is terrific. I made a bone-headed error and booked our trip for the wrong weekend and showed up a week early for our reservation. (We were only in the area for a few days.) They offered to accommodate us that day, or rebook for the next morning. We chose the latter. They were very kind about dealing with the snafu of my making. We took the San Andreas Fault trip. It takes you into uninhabited rocky and desert land that one would never get close to as an unaccompanied tourist. The guide is incredibly knowledgeable about all aspects of the history and geology of the area, as well as the local flora. I can't recommend the tour enough. I would tour again with this outfit with no hesitation.

Sheri W.

Yelp
My BF and I did the San Andreas Fault tour this past Saturday. I had no idea what to expect but was excited to check it out! Bill was our guide. This tour was incredible! Bill imparted knowledge that was scientific, social, agricultural, cultural, and just plain interesting! I could have listened for hours! Bill is a great storyteller and extremely knowledgeable, on a deep level of the area, the people, the geology, etc. If you are on the fence about this tour, do it! It's a once in a lifetime experience. I would go on the exact same tour in a heartbeat, if given the chance. It was fabulous!
