10 Haunted Bars Where You Can Sip Your Spirits Among Spirits

"The Red Lion Pub located in Avebury holds the distinction as being one of the most haunted pubs in the entire United Kingdom. Encircling the pub is a strange collection of ancient stones from the Neolithic period in Britain. They were first excavated by Alexander Keiller and are believed to have served religious purposes. Inside the pub is just as fascinating as its surroundings. The Red lion is home to a 17th-century well, now fashioned into a table complete with a window to peer inside. Ghost stories and other tales are common here, where the staff is more than willing to relay a chilling tale." - ATLAS_OBSCURA

Booked a table online before arrival. It was my friend’s birthday and his first time visiting Avebury. We are into history and also the paranormal and had heard about the story of Florrie and the well. I requested the Well table in my booking and the fact it was my friend’s birthday and lo and behold they managed to fulfill my wish! Not only that, they were kind enough to write a birthday card for him, and he was also offered a free pudding! We both chose the trio roast dinner, and agreed it was one of the best we’d tasted in a while. The mini pudding and hot drink for desert was just enough after the huge roast dinner! I highly recommend the Red Lion, superb service from start to finish and the food was amazing! We will definitely return here. Thanks guys!

Pleasant Greene King pub. So Greene King beers. Monopoly in Avebury. But still nice enough on a hot day. Service / staff good. Very pretty old building but could do with a bit of investment to smarten outside.

Fantastic location and a great Chef & Brewer pub. Had the grilled chicken & bacon sandwich for lunch, washed down with Thatchers cider. Food was very tasty and a good portion size. Served by George at the bar who (despite it being busy) was calm, efficient & polite. Well worth a visit.

ok pub with a decent selection of beers gins & lagers, set in an amazing location... Staff are all well briefed, work hard & are engaging. The pub is let down with some of the food being of "catering package" quality as I'm certain the kitchen can do better & slightly higher prices won't deter the typical customer.

We visited Avebury and had lunch here. Staffs are nice and the food is good. There are plenty of tables indoor and outdoor. We were lucky to have the last parking space.

We have been here twice over the last five years, and we are ALWAYS impressed with the Red Lion. Atmosphere is clean and well laid out, service is friendly, and the food is PHENOMENAL! This time, we had the British slow-cooked ale & pie, lamb shank shepherd's pie, and Barber's smothered chicken - all were perfect. We'll be back!

The most favourite haunted place! We arrived late on a Saturday evening, tired and very hungry. We ordered starters and mains — and yes, we had to wait, but reasonably for a Saturday night. And it was so worth it — the food was amazing! It felt wonderfully homemade and real, like something lovingly cooked just for us. And no, we don't have any food photos… as I said, we were VERY hungry. The pub is in an impeccable location, and we’ll definitely be back next time. However, I’m not sure I should leave such a glowing review… if everyone goes there now, I might not get a table next time! lol
