Wonderful environment that’s very cozy inside. Plenty of parking. Very clean inside and food cooked very very well. Good presentation and heated to perfection. The greatest Sticky Toffee Pudding I have ever had in my entire LIFE. We had a younger new waitress that struggled but she will get it. Worth the visit.

Arrived at 2:15 with a booking had other tables served before us until we got our drinks at 2:50 then served starters at 3:15 before finally getting our mains at 4:10. Pretty terrible experience to wait this long for our mains. Staff were okay and somewhat apologetic but after ordering our mains an hour later a staff member approached us and said “who is having the beef, not anymore” pretty bad way too let us know an hour and a half into service that what we ordered was no longer available. The food was okay and enjoyable but the beef was cold and overall quite underwhelming considering the wait. A table who came in after us were served their food and left had their whole bill comped but we only had the mains taken off. The staff member at the end was apologetic and I understand the stress of Sundays. But overall I would AVOID this place as there are many great alternatives in the area.

This is a lovely little pub/restaurant in Avebury. We came at 4:30 pm, for the the 7 hour slow cooked rib of beef and the Woodland Mushroom Bourgeoisie Wellington. They were already all out. A bit disappointing. We did get to sit at the "haunted well" table. That was fun!! The service was good, but what we ordered was disappointing too. I had decided to have a drink, and they totally mixed it up.

I have been to the Red Lion a few times this year having main meals, breakfasts and the Sunday lunches. The food itself has always been of high quality however I thought it was very disappointing when I went for Sunday lunch majority of their menu was unavailable due to running out of food, this was at 3 o’clock so I understand the lunch rush would of happened however I got the vibe it was a common occurrence which if so just isn’t acceptable or patrons should be made aware before if they have reserved a table as I did. They also show they accept American Express on their card machines when in fact they don’t! Other than that I have always had a lovely time there and the pub aesthetic is just wonderful. I would be mindful to always book as the place is packed at peak times

Oh dear! We called in for lunch after being recommended by a family member. This place benefits from being in an interesting area and being the only pub in the area. The downside is it appears the staff and manager can't seem to handle its popularity and influxes of tourists. We arrived around 3pm (during a relatively quiet period) and asked for a table. We were taken to one which was full of food and drinks from the previous occupants. This was swiftly cleared away by the staff, but no one returned to clean the table - meaning we has to do it ourselves with napkins. We ordered our food at the bar, at the same time as two gentleman on the table next to us. Both tables had ended waiting an hour for our food to arrive and when it did, it was brought by a managerial man who apologised repeatedly to our neighboring table about the delay, but did not acknowledge us once. We had not mentioned the delay nor complained about anything during our visit, so I'm unsure why he felt it appropriate to ignore us. I ordered a rounds of drinks via the app thinking it would be quicker, and of course 20 minutes later I had to ask at the bar. Only to be told the drinks had been forgotten and were now on their way. In the car on the way back I sent a quick email to Chef & Brewer who run this location, only to receive a generic thank you for your feedback response. Finally, the Guinness was was of the worst I've ever had. It was poured the same way as a pint and it shows by the attached photo. Some serious training all round is certainly needed, but either way - we won't return.

What a fantastic place, the service was excellent and the staff couldn't be more helpful especially as I am gluten free and there was some items on the menu that wasn't available, great range of dinks and the history of the pub was fascinating, we learned all about the resident ghost of Florrie who was killed and thrown in the well. The well is still inside and you can see it as it's now a table you can sit at. Highly recommend a visit here for a lovely meal and a great atmosphere.

A group of us stopped at The Red Lion during a hike along the Ridgeway back in the spring, and it was a perfect spot for a break. We enjoyed our drinks out in the sunshine at the front, and the staff were incredibly friendly and efficient — they handled our order with ease and a smile. The pub had a really welcoming atmosphere, and we’d happily stop by again on any future walking events along the trail.

We visited Avebury and stayed for dinner at the Red Lion. Location is excellent, literally right beside the main stone site. It has a decent size parking. Now the main highlight, the food - it was definitely the best we've tasted so far in England, and we are already one week into our vacation. We had the soup of the day, which was the tomato soup, and the chicken bbq with cheddar cheese. Absolutely delicious, recommend both. Portions are large enough and the prices are fair. The food arrived quickly as well, so the service was excellent. The staff was very nice and welcoming and the atmosphere inside was very friendly. Thanks Huw and the rest of the team for the very fine job you are doing in this place.
