Quick aside: I've known the owner of this shop likely 20 years, I met him in college, where he led a poetry and creative writing circle. Lee Francis is a terrific guy and he's immensely talented, so it's apt to note that at this stage in his rather prolific career, he's helping other talented artists find an audience. That's just the kind of person Lee is. A few years ago he launched "The IndigiPop X, the world's premier gathering for Indigenerds and all things Indigenous pop culture" which includes the world's first Indigenous Comic Con produced right here in Albuquerque (at least, before Evil Rona unleashed his viral vengeance upon us). I see he's also holding online workshops and conferences with other artists in this Age of Zoom. The guy just can't/won't/don't stop.
So that wasn't a quick aside. His smallish Native comic book shop can be a quick visit, and I'm beating myself up for not checking it out before now. The place offers a healthy selection of comics, but there's lots to see here, including used books, novels, poetry, novelties, toys and gifts. Employees were masked, hours were listed clearly and correctly posted on Yelp, and I'll be back. This is definitely a business that makes this city and state a unique and important place to live.
