The 50 Most Beautiful Places in the U.S.

"Only about 30 minutes from the LED skyline of Las Vegas is Red Rock Canyon, named for its giant cliffs and craggy jumbles of yellow and red sandstone. The hiking, rock climbing, mountain biking, and scenic driving on offer here are a pretty amazing contrast to the gaming, buffet feasts, and pool parties that define a typical Sin City getaway." - Anne Olivia Bauso Anne Olivia Bauso Anne Olivia Bauso is a travel writer and hotel expert based in New York City. Where to Eat, Sleep, and Explore in Las Vegas

"Paradoxically, Las Vegas has become more and more of a draw for nature lovers, bikers, and rock climbers (even Alex Honnold, the first to free solo a route in Yosemite’s El Capitan, lives here for the rock climbing). The most famous area for this is the nearly 200,000-acre Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, where the non-hiking-inclined can drive the easy 12-mile loop, and hikers can pick one of the many marked trails of every level to see spectacular views and pictographs from Indigenous communities dating back thousands of years. The drive there is an easy 20-mile shot west from the Strip, making it a perfect day trip." - Staff Writer

"Winter in Redrock I have the pleasure of hiking in the beautiful Redrock Canyon area north of Las Vegas at least twice a year, but I have always been limited to the summer months for these treks. However, last winter, I had the chance to see the Mojave in winter. The cold blustery breeze, dancing off the snow topped Mt. Charleston , offered a chance to appreciate the early morning summer hikes, that much more. With the windchill, the temperature in this high desert ran between 18-23 degrees celsius. This is rarely experienced by the locals, as the winters are spend inside casinos and homes in the Las Vegas valley. By Chuck Lacy"

I would have liked to visit the Grand Canyon, but since we were short on time, we chose Red Rock Canyon as an alternative. It was truly a beautiful place. Seeing the red rocks was even more impressive than in the photos. When we visited, the area was very quiet; there were very few people, and the roads were empty. Driving through the canyon was enjoyable, and we got to explore while taking in the views. We also had the chance to take some photos. I think visiting here at least once is a great experience. You won’t regret it!

This was probably the best part of my trip to Las Vegas. I love this park. We hiked a couple of trails and enjoyed the scenery as we drove through the park. My favorite hike was Calico Tanks. There's an amazing view when you make it to the end. Scrambling was fun.

An Unforgettable Escape – Red Rock Canyon Red Rock Canyon completely blew me away. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but the moment I saw those towering red cliffs against the bright blue sky, I knew I was in for something special. The scenic drive alone is worth the visit. Every turn reveals another breathtaking view, and there are plenty of spots to pull over, take photos, or just sit and take it all in. I hiked the Calico Tanks Trail, and it was incredible—the rock formations felt almost otherworldly, and the views from the top were unreal. What I loved most was the peace and quiet. Even though it’s just a short drive from the craziness of Vegas, it feels like another world. I saw wild burros roaming around and even caught a glimpse of a bighorn sheep. It’s the kind of place that makes you slow down and appreciate nature. If you’re in the area, don’t miss this place. Whether you’re up for an adventurous hike or just want to take a leisurely drive, Red Rock Canyon is pure magic. I’ll definitely be back!

One of the nicest national parks in Nevada. It has numerous hiking trails for all levels with spectacular views of different rock formations and colors. Best time to go is Spring. Just avoid summer time if you don't enjoy 110F desert heat.

This a beautiful place. The colors are deep and rich, the rock formations are amazing. We did several of the small hiking trails (1-2 miles) and they were fun without being too challenging.

CANNOT say enough good things about this place. I just love it here, every time we visit. The trails are clean and plentiful and the strategically placed picnic areas and rest areas were well thought out.

Wife had a business trip here in Vegas this week. So I decided to tag along and hike the Red Rock Canyon trails. Loved the trails, scenery was mind blowing & the trails were easy to follow. Just wish my wife wasn't working so i could share this with her. But took plenty of pics.

We came here two days ago and it was very windy yet a very wonderful scenic view. Probably because it's a weekday, the place isn't too crowded. And there are some toilets along the stop overs. The place is great and definitely one of the places that is worth visiting again.
