You get what you paid for. A week before, a friend and I decided to go to San Antonio for the NBA finals game. This place was only around $80 a night on hotels.com which was very cheap for the short notice and it wasn't too far from downtown which was good for us since we wouldn't have a car.
Upon checkin, we told the front desk that we were in a rush to get to the game after a long delay in our flight. Yet, he took his dandy time, answering the phone, etc. We were both placed on the 3rd floor, king beds in each room. When I walked into my room, it had a very musty smell. Reeked of wet towels. Yet, all I had time to do was quickly wash up and change.
The toilet is very low, so I imagine it to be super low for tall people. After the game, I ran into another front desk person and told him about the smell in my room. He came to check and agreed the smell was quite bad and it wasn't the AC. My friend then checked the window, and it completely opened! I was surprised as I thought all hotels did not have windows that opened all the way. Anyways, he was able to change my room but the only room available for the whole weekend had 2 double beds. Figured that would be better than dealing with the wet towel smell for a long time. The only problem with the double bed room is you do not get a mini fridge or microwave. I asked for one, but the NEXT day they said the rooms do not have any and they did not have any extras.
The next morning, I woke up with a huge spider bite on my arm. It actually lasted for over a week! All I wanted was a long hot shower, but when I tried the water, the water would not come out when I moved the knob to the middle. All I could get was hot scalding water or cold water. I hate cold showers but since I didn't want to burn myself, I had to make do. I later called the front desk and they said someone would come up in 15 minutes. After waiting for 30 minutes and my friends waiting, I called again. They said that the maintenance guy was out at lunch but would be up shortly. Could they not have told me that earlier? He later told me that there was a stopper in the middle, and like me, did not understand why they did that. Seriously?! No warm water!
My other issue with this place is the ice machine does not work on the first or third floor. So you constantly have to go to the second floor. My tub did not come with a plastic bag so it leaked everyhwere on the dresser. Oh well.
It may be for many hotels, but the cleaning staff are incredibly loud in the early morning, so I never got good sleep during my stay here. The beds were pretty comfy though, which is the one plus. The doors here do not close very well either since the lock gets in the way.
They do have a grab and go breakfast near the lobby. I made it down on our last day, and they had bagels that you could toast and danishes as well. The bagels were a good start to the day, but the OJ and Cranberry juice machine was incredibly too sweet. They also had some fruit as well.
Overall, again, you definitely get what you pay for, and it is in a not so great area of town. But it was a quick walk to downtown, and taxis come quickly after you call.
