Red Star Bar

The Red Star Bar in downtown Chicago nestled within Wholefoods is probably the most understated watering hole for an early summer evening sojourn. Has one of the most affordable drafts, heck even fresh pizza from an adjacent counter or from the fresh salad kiosks next to it. If you can grab a seat by the full sized windows you can enjoy a very quiet evening with the most wonderful sunlight dances from high rise around. Highly recommended if you are in the area. The people manning the bar would never disappoint. Some of the warmest people we have met.

After hours of walking in downtown Chicago, we found this little, nice bar inside a market. We needed to sit down and have a drink, and enjoyed very much of time here. Nico, the bartender, was very nice, and we talked to other people in the bar as well. Good beer options on tap, affordable prices, exactly what is needed before continuing your journey through uptown.

An excellent place for tastings at a reasonable price. You just drop by and order. As a light weight, it's music to my ears when someone says, "I can do a half" that only applies to draft.

Outstanding specials everyday of the week. Really got to thank our corporate overlords at Amazon. The pizza place right next door will have you a slice or 2 when you want something to soak up the booze. The bartenders are professional and cool.

Little bar inside of whole foods servin' up small bites and slangin' drinks on demand. I tend to cruise by on cold days to warm up a bit. Happy hour here is a must! Mon - Fri 4pm-7pm featuring half off appetizers and $4 draft craft beers! PRO TIP 1: Wednesday $4 draft beers all day! I tried the pork nachos and the croquettes on my visit here. The croquettes were delicious and served up with a side of hot sauce and the pork nachos were just aite... BUT for $2.50 a pop during happy hour. WHY NOT? PRO TIP 2: You missed happy hour? No worries, ask for their mystery beer! It's a random selection of cans / bottles they have in the fridge for 2 BUCKS! 'Til next time, cheers!

I love me some Whole Foods bars. It was due to a conversation I had at one of the ones in Milwaukee that led to this impromptu Chicago trip, so it's ironic that I ended up here. I didn't know it was at the Whole Foods and just came for the drinks that didn't cost an arm and a leg because, well, the trip was impromptu (note to self: come back and bring money, always easier said than done.) I knew I would have to get a little bit off the "Magnificent Mile" to accomplish that, if ever so slightly. I love Whole Foods bars because they always attract an interestingly off-center crowd that's fun to interact with. There are people discussing 20th century history (Hitler, Stalin, Mussolini, Pol Pot and all that.) There are also some intriguing beers for reasonable prices, which is common to Whole Foods. I'm not really hungry or I might go for one of the ramen bowls. Maybe another time.

Dirty, broken tables. One bartender who was in the weeds. No clear signage or direction. The chairs are ripped....entry gross. We ended up leaving

Love this local spot. Great drink specials every day of the week. Cool neighborhood feel where you actually get to know your neighbors. Riley heads it all up and does a fantastic job. Trivia on Wednesday night is a blast. Solid beer selection for a "grocery store bar." Solid food options. Great bartenders who aim to please.

So unexpectedly good. The beers really justify a 5 star, but the food is meh. I'm here literally once a week for one key reason: convenience. There's 4-7 Happy Hour, but worry not if you miss it! The bottled beers are $2, always. This is streeterville - $2 beers are unheard of. And then there's additional benefits: - did you know you could walk aroudn and drink your beer in the store? - did you know that they can ring up anything with a bar code? mindblowing. But really, I grab food from the hot food bar once a week, and plop down at this bar when I'm too indecisive to figure out anywhere else to eat.

Great food and brews for cheap. I came here on Sunday and didn't want to tangle with the usual salad/hot bar offerings so I decided to sit up at the bar and order a libation to go along with my fare. Red Star Bar offers $2 'mystery beers' essentially a server's choice from among Whole Foods' overstock. I got an excellent IPA from California, bottled, to go along with my cheese pizza- a generous slice that rang up at $3. The menu also features sides (mac and cheese, potato salad), shareable plates, and sandwiches. The big screen tvs are a nice touch as well, especially on a Sunday afternoon during football season.

Not the most quaint place I've been in as it is inside whole foods but great deals. 2 buck Tuesday bottles and cans. Made a special trip back after I visited for 3 buck Illinois draft mondays

WOW! I just had a fabulous sandwich (big thanks to Edel) and glass of Pinot Noir at The Red Star Bar. Great place for a quick bite, fun and friendly service, and amazing prices. Resident bartenders, Riley and Matt, welcome everyone with humor, a wide array of cocktail choices and beer selection. Plus, who doesn't love the fact they have a vintage Cars album on the self?!

Ok. It is the bar inside the Whole Foods at the corner of Columbus and Grand. And it is only open from 2:30 to 10 pm. But they do a good job. And try very hard. The food menu is only what they make at Whole Foods. And the drinks aren't much more inviting. But they do a good job overall.

PATRICK IS THE BEST!!!!! Bro hooked us up real time. It is weird standing by the windows, everyone feels like a giant. Like everyone. A 8 year old walked by. Damn. He flipped me off but it was cool. Dude knew what he was about.
