Redman is a high altitude camp with abundant trees and mountain atmosphere. Streams running through it and cooler summer temps. So many hiking and other outdoor activities all around and at Brighton.

Started with an email notification that said water was down at the campground. I emailed back, to ask if this was the bathroom, or just culinary water. Only got an email back confirming that water was down, but said nothing about bathrooms. We were traveling with elderly family, and only rented here because of said bathrooms. Emailed again asking if bathrooms were down and about cancellation policy due to no water, and received zero response. Because we had no idea if we would get money back, we ended up keeping the reservation, with an RV to accommodate family. This campground IS NOT RV friendly. I would NEVER take an RV through the loop; it is uneven, narrow roads, with zero room to backup. On top of all of this, had people show up 11 p.m., yelling, hollering at incoming cars, taking loudly, then leaving around 4 a.m. Probability would be: people showing up after closing, and leaving before opening, KNOWING no one patroled the area. Nobody came around to kick them out, or tell them to be quiet. Woke EVERYONE up at several surrounding camps. Someone from a camp went and told them to keep it down, but it didnt stop. Next morning, kids hadn't slept and crying; adults were irritable from not sleeping as well. Terrible experience. Where were the camp hosts, or someone to make sure people weren't being belligerent, from what I assumed drunk? To continue with this way less than stellar experience, the next day on the other end of the campground, someone had loud speakers and played loud music all day. I love music, but the fact that we could hear it from one site of the campground to the other was a bit much. I will try to upload a video that will have people from our campground, and from the other playing music. Will never stay here again. Zero stars. Would NOT recommend. Worst campground we have ever stayed at. WORST.

Well, reading the previous person’s review (from last week), I lol’Ed. Anyway, the 5 of us with 2 kids stayed here and the couple who booked it had rebooked it from last year. We all agreed that this is a very nice campsite. Large trees. Large covering. 80 degrees in the day (of June) and 50s at night. We were the louder ones with kids running around at 8:30pm and 9:30am. There was a running stream that was DRY so that sucked. Other camp sites have huge boulders so look around (I think #42). We stayed at #35(?) that could fit 8 tents with decent space. For the 3 tents we had, awesome space and quietness. We cooked and grilled. The water was running at the toilet site but there is no running water at each camp site. On the plus side, there’s 5G. lol. I guess technology has caught up after 2 decades of trying. So for a campsite 13 miles from the house of Salt Lake, incredible.

The host was a total jerk, rude and condescending in a one sentence conversation. They don’t allow dogs which was not easily seen on the rec website. Will never stay here even if the dog stays at home. NFS , please screen your camp hosts better!!! This guys doesn’t belong here. I’ve encountered many great NFS camp hosts and they’ve been wonderful.

One of the most beautiful campgrounds I’ve been in. I was in site number 2 and I loved how there was no other site in one of the sides and the camp host and closest site were far enough to have good privacy. The campsite is very well maintained and clean. Even the restrooms were spotless. Tons of chipmunks and squirrels, saw also deers, mushrooms and wildflowers. Good site to solo camp. l would recommend to walk the campground loop closest to the mountain. Nice views of the forest, little creeks, and cool boulders.

Beautiful, spacious campgrounds. Super close to donut falls and silver lake. Our campsite was picturesque. Gorgeous stream flowing directly on the path behind our tent. We saw deer, ground rodents and chipmunks taking bites of mushrooms. Great tent camping. The bathrooms are a bit of a jaunt, but very well kept main bathrooms. Definitely going back.

The campground itself was fine and lovely, but the Host? The host was by far the worst person I have ever met in my entire life. My group had never camped there before, and upon arrival, the host was not in their little hut at the gate. The last campground we went to allowed for payment by credit card for the first come first serve spots, which is what we were doing, so we knew we would need to see the host. We never found him all day the first day we were there. Then the next day around noon, he showed up to our campsite, and IMMEDIATELY started berating us for trying to get away with camping without paying. I was in my tent when I heard him come up to my friend and start yelling at her. He then started belittling her asking if she could read English (which, by the way, we are all well educated white Americans, yes we can read English). So in a matter of 30 seconds of him being there, he said "So you can't read?? You can't read English?? Are you claiming ignorance?? Is there an Adult here that I can talk to??" (Also, we are all in our mid 30's). At that point I came out of my tent and started yelling at him for talking so mean and disrespectful. By the time I got closer to the commotion, a third friend had intervened to try to de-escalate. She was holding her infant, and he leaned into the infant and said "Are YOU the adult here?" My friend finally got things de-escalated, and I didn't hear some of the words said, but he angrily told us he doesn't work Wednesdays when we told him we couldn't find him the day before, and then informed us we had to pay either by check or cash, nothing else (which when I got home and looked it up on the website, they do have a scan to pay, which he didn't tell us was an option). So we got the envelope from him, found enough cash between the 3 of us, and took it to the hut. Thankfully he wasn't there. But that basically ruined the rest of our trip, and we will likely never go there again because of this awful, disrespectful excuse of a human being.

Redman Campground, in Salt Lake’s Big Cotton Wood Canyon, is a great place to camp with your family. Just minutes from the city, temperatures run 10 to 15 degrees cooler than the Salt Lake Valley. Even in August the evenings can get cool (50s or 60s), so pack a light jacket and a blanket for sleeping. Each campsite has a large table and a fire pit. Plenty of wood available to burn if you bring your own saw, axe or hatchet. These campsites are designed more for camping in tents than for trailers. Campsite #35 is our favorite because it is shaded by the trees almost all day and has lots of clear space for tents, hammocks and lounging. It is a double campsite, made for 2 families, and carries a double fee. Any more than 2 vehicles incur an fee of $9. Another reason we like this campsite is it is close to restrooms with flush toilets. Some of the toilet facilities in Redman Campground are the old fashioned outhouse style. NO DOGS are allowed in Big Cottonwood Canyon because its part of the watershed for the Salt Lake valley. This means you are not to touch or play in any streams or waterways. No hands or feet in the water.
