Redwood National and State Parks Guide: The Best Tree-Lined Hikes, Camping, and Cycling Routes | Condé Nast Traveler

"Because the guides know the parks so well, I like booking this outfitter for private half- or full-day tours that range from viewing the world’s tallest trees to hiking in the otherworldly beauty of Fern Canyon." - Jill K. Robinson

My husband and I went out on two different trips with Redwood Adventures....Fern Canyon and to the tidepools. We had a wonderful time. Our guide, Eileen, was friendly and extremely knowledgeable. Highly recommend using this company if you're looking for local knowledge and expertise to make the most of this beautiful area. Bogart was a great contact to book our excursions, very responsive and flexible to meet our needs. Do yourself a favor and let Redwood Adventures show you around!

We did the Tallest trees/fern canyon one day and the coastal tour the next. We were blessed to have Grant as our guide both days. I cannot say enough about how great he was. He made sure we saw the best of the best and tailored the tour to our interests. He was so knowledgeable about every aspect.

Google
5 STARS hands down! If you want an amazing tour with experienced and knowledgeable guides, then look no further and book Redwood Adventures! We had two half-day tours (Fern Canyon & Coastal Trail Tour) with Eileen. The tour and the guide exceeded our expectations! Eileen was insightful, answered questions, and very engaging with our elementary-aged daughter. We highly recommend Redwood Adventures and all they have to offer!

Y’all were so wonderful!! We booked a private trees-to-seas full day and it was worth every penny. Our guide, Brance, tailored the tour to our knowledge and preferences. We are both practicing ecologists with fair tree knowledge and he taught us so much. We also didn’t want long, strenuous hikes, so he chose several short walks that led to awesome specific trees or views. Can’t wait to bring our family in the coming years!

Our guide Pearse was nothing but the best! He made sure we got the most out of our tour and very accommodating. We learned a lot about the amazing ecosystem and Pearse had plenty of knowledge to share. We had a great time and some really good laughs. The weather didn’t stop us from having so much fun. Thanks, Pearse for a memorable tour!

Google
Option 1: hike a trail, look around. Option 2: book Eileen for an unbelievably eye-opening easy hike where she identifies the trees (more than the Redwoods are there) and plants ("here eat this, what does it taste like?") and animals (ahh, there's a banana slug, let's pick it up) and lichens/fungus/mushrooms. The daughters get much more out of the hikes with a Naturalist explaining things, than just with me, and they are better behaved/less complaining LOL

Google
We did the trees to seas tour with Redwood Adventures. It was great. We went on a hike near by and learned so much about the Redwoods and it’s ecosystem. Our tour guide had so much information and was very conversational making our hike more interesting. We were also able to adjust our hike for 4 year old. We also went to the beach. The tides were not at greats times for us to view but our guide was still able to answer all the questions we had. So much beauty to take in. We had a great experience and learned so much more then on our own during our trip.

Yelp
From the first call to book a reservation, the staff was extremely kind and patient. Pearse was very responsive and helped make the process very easy. Not to mention that we took this tour in the off-season where the temperatures were rather cold. Our guide Eileen was VERY sweet and kind in accomodating my fiance and I. I had plans to propose to my then girlfriend on this tour and she was very happy to help me out. Eileen's knowledge of the area and expertise were perfect in both helping me to find a beautiful spot to propose, as well as to have a fun and educational experience learning about SO many things in that part of the forest. I will certainly be coming back to explore the many other parts of the forest with them in the future (and maybe during a more temperate season). Thank you all for making the experience as perfect as it was!

Yelp
My husband and I booked a full day tour with Redwood adventures. Our Guide was Eileen. we felt so fortunate to have her as our guide. She turned what was a long time dream into a reality. Her knowledge as a Marine Biologist made the tide pool hike and experience an absolute delight. We learned and experienced so much in almost every step. seeing, touching, and discovering, it was thrilling. Lunch was tasty and enjoyable. We then began the tour in the redwoods. Eileen's knowledge was just as thorough and interesting in this venue as well. Again we saw the most incredible sights and learned about many many aspects of the forest and its inhabitants. We had already toured the Avenue of Giants and hiked on our own the previous day, however, the tour with Redwood Adventures took as to places and experience's beyond anything we could have learned or found on our own. We would highly recommend Redwood Adventures to anyone who is looking for a truly adventurous and immersive experience.

Yelp
We spent two days with Redwood Adventures. The first day we were mostly in Prairie Creek State Park with Deon. He was extremely knowledgeable about the biology of the forest and answered all of our questions. We also got a chance to see some elk near the Redwood Adventures office. The photos below are from our day with Deon. Deon brought a magnifying glass so we could see the foliage up close. Amazing! The second day we did the Trees to Seas with Justin. We modified the trip somewhat because we had seen a lot of trees the previous day. Justin took us to the Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park in Del Norte County. The trails and signage are new and it was a terrific place to see. We had lunch near the Smith River. Justin did his utmost to make sure we had great vantage points wherever we were. In the afternoon we drove to Crescent City to see the shore and also the Castle Rock National Wildlife Refuge. Justin had a telescope and showed us beautiful views of the birds. I would recommend Redwood Adventures to anyone!

Yelp
Amazing tour! We did the half day tour for the tallest redwoods and it was just stunning. Our guide was so knowledgeable, friendly, and approachable. We learned so much. It's totally worth the price!

Yelp
Justin is AWESOME! He took us on an amazing all day tour where we saw amazing forests and TONS of wildlife. We even saw two grey whales up close! (But he said that was a first for him too so don't expect him to produce whales every time!) But we really felt like we were in a national geographic special. He's super knowledgable, great with kids and adults and just a fun guy to be around. Book with him and you'll see all the secret amazing spots of the area! We're so glad we did because we never would have know any of it existed. Thanks, Justin!

Yelp
Justin Legge is possibly one of the best tour guides we've ever had. He really customized our private tour to maximize the one day that we had to see the Redwoods. He is very enthusiastic and knowledgeable about all aspects of the forest and the Fern Canyon. What I really appreciated was that when he didn't know something, he acknowledged it and said, "I'll have to find that out!" The lunch he provided was absolutely delicious as well! If you are headed to the Redwood Forest, make sure you use Redwood National Park Adventures and ask for Justin!

Yelp
We did the full day 'trees to seas' guided eco tour, and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Our guide, Justin, was very knowledgeable about the local flora and fauna, and the northwest region as a whole. He has the gift of making discovery fun for kids - our two asked questions all day, and he patiently answered each and every one. It was an organic experience - no canned speeches or required trail points! We'll be back again to take advantage of their bike and kayak tours in the future.

Nicole H.

Yelp
We did a private tour with with this company - I believe it was the "Trees to Seas" tours. We got to see many wonderful aspects of Redwood National and State Parks, including the Grove of the Titans, and our guide (Justin) was very knowledgable about not just the flora and fauna, but also the history of the area and the park. We had hours hiking (with snacks!) and then went to an incredible beach where we got to see tribal fisherman using local techniques and seals frolicking non-stop. Again, our guide was able to help us really appreciate the ecology as well as the social aspects of what we were experiencing. I don't know if it's typical, but Justin even took several wonderful pictures of our family and was willing to share them with us after the fact. (Any family with little kids knows that getting pictures of the whole family on an adventure is difficult.) We had a great day and plan to visit RNP Adventures - and Justin! - if we are back in the area.
