My 7 year old daughter my 13 year old son and I made a day long excursion from Camping Ordesa (incredible place, incredible people) which is about a half a mile to the North of Torla to the Roman bridge El Puente de Abetos to and from San Nicola de Bujaruelo. We covered over 8 kilometers of trail (first half of the excursion) and had the incredible pleasure of seeing the bridge and the Refuge come into view below us in the last 500 meters of the trail. I was dreaming of a nice cold cerveza and my kids had their minds fixed on an ice-cream, of course. ||||The next time we make the trip I am going to lighten up my load and head out with out the picnic so we can try the food, since from what I saw, the food looked good and the other clients seemed to be enjoying the fare. What I can say for sure is that the staff was great... straight up. The prices seemed entirely reasonable considering the location. ||||Peoples opinion of this place might be a little different if you drive up in a car. When you trek in you understand the place better and appreciate it for what it truly is: a fantastic place to and get a drink, have a meal, and stay for a while to visit farther up in the mountains where the scenery just gets better and better. My kids and I especially liked seeing the groups of climbers and spelunkers that came and went, clanking along, using the camp grounds next to the Refugio as their base camp. The camp ground themselves looked more like a parking lot than a camp ground but I am sure the people staying there didn't care much since it was all about location. ||||Simple, straight forward and made for people who want a nice reward half way thru or at the end or a hard day's adventure. Be sure to take a dip in the Rio Bujaruelo under the Roman bridge while you are there: it is just as cold as the beers at the Refugio and right next door (100 meters).
