Refugio Vega de Urriellu / Delgado Ubeda

The hut owner was a very rude to us. For example, the vegetarian menu for my friend were noodles without anything. Not even extra salt or pepper. I was not allowed to drink an extra instand coffee. Crazy compared to the price we paid for one night. He watched a spanish (vs Italy!) football match on his own during Euro 2024, leaving his spanish people outside his room listening through the door and telling everyone there is no wifi. There is only one toilet, only cold water and no shower. It seems that there was a shower before, but it was dismantled. Overall compared to huts in the alps the hut is a tough place. 2 Stars, because it is well located below the Urriellu.

Huge bed with blankets and pillows (not fresh tho). Dinner 18€ was amazing (soup and pasta)- also vegetarian option available. Breakfast for 7€ was very very poor (very little amount and not suitable for hiking hours afterwards, nothing fresh, just jam, crackers, cookies, tea/coffee). It‘s heated so you don‘t get cold at all. You have a locker for your personal belongings. Beautiful sunrise and sunset-views. All in all recommend - except breakfast but may it will improve if enough people give feedback :-)

Refugio de Uriellu is situated on a beautiful place with scenic views everywhere you look. It is all uphill to get there, no matter from which direction you come. When you reach the refugio, it should feel like an accomplishment, where in fact it feels like the battle of hiking uphill has just begun. We were a party of 7 where 6 had booked a bed and the last person would need to sleep in a tent because of no availability. That person still booked dinner and breakfast. That 7th person was only allowed to be inside the refugio between 19:00-21:00. At 19:00 we all went inside to a small waiting area overlooking the dinner saloon which was cordoned off. there was not enough seats for all the guests, so we had to sit on the floor or stand upright for almost an hour. It felt like we were being ruled by the staff and should not say or do ANYTHING they wouldn’t want us to. When we asked the staff when they would open the saloon so we would have a place to sit, they said «When we tell you to». The dinner itself was tasteful and plentiful. The breakfast (7€) was truly a disgrace. Marie-cookies (flour and water), dehydrated pieces of bread, jam and one glass of coffee. We had one celiac in our party and he was not given any food until we demanded it, and he got two tiny muffins. All ultra-processed and of zero nutrional value. The refugio knows it’s value (location) and that there is no other alternative nearby. Therefore they maximize profit and make you feel like shit for stepping on their rug, even though you pay to stay there. Two in our party decided to sleep in a tent outside in order to stay away from the staff. I have been to other refugios in the Picos, and they all try to make you feel welcome and make an effort so you can rest and prepare for the next day - like a proper refuge. Refugio de Uriellu is a 0-star hotel where you feel like a thief even though you paid close to 50€. Bring a tent and warm clothes, only pay for dinner (which was good) and stay away. The atmosphere and the views are stunning outside the four walls of Refugio de Uriellu.

One of the best Refugio at the foot of the Picu Urriellu with stunning views and scenery. And, apparently open all year round. Do visit & stay overnight if you make it to the top! Also for the people complaining about food, just take a sec and think how far up and difficult it is to get there. You are lucky if you find food anywhere close to the area for at least 2-3 hours.

I am wondering where all these negative reviews are coming from. We had a very pleasant experience in the refuge. The rooms are spacious, with big beds. There were enogh toilets for all, they were clean and inside of the building. The food was great and plenty! The first day we got bean+pea soup, spaghetti with chorizo and a cake. The second day we got garlic soup (super tasty) rice with vegetables and chorizo and a cake. For breakfast they served tons of cookies and bread with butter and jam + coffee/tea. If you plan yo leave super early they are ready to give you breakfast in the evening before with your coffee in thermo bottle, so you can enjoy your hot coffee before hitting the hike. Overall, good value for money - I would come again.

This is a mountain hut. Resources are scarce in the majority of mountain huts. Resources like water, electricity, phone coverage, space, food, crew, etc. – the place is far away from populated places and infrastructure. Mountain huts are special places with special solution to problems – you wanted to go to a special spot after all, right? Please don't expect a hotel and write bad reviews because you did not get a service as you'd get in a seaside resort. Mountains and huts are not for everyone for sure. In this refugio the hospitality was fine, the food was simple and good, even too much for me :) , cleanliness was alright. The shower did not work at the time but that's alright and sort of expected (use the numerous basins for basic cleansing). The beds are spacious, the mattresses are covered by plastic sheets but you have to bring your own sleeping bag or just linen anyways. Stuff can't be brought to the sleeping area but lockers are provided. I was almost perfectly happy with everything there – the one minor thing that bothered me was the human hair on the pillow I got, so I did not use it.

Stayed in June 2022, we were 6 adults & 6 children from 6 years to 13 years. We had a great time with the trail etc. Absolutely spectacular scenery. The refuge is as is, very clean! don’t expect a hotel, but working toilets and hand basins did just fine. It has 4 bedrooms with 16 spaces in each, bunk beds. Beds were very comfortable so slept great. No sheets so take your own. Food was alright, they do what they can with limited resources. Staff and owner were very friendly. You must reserve before you go!!

Good place to stay for climbing. But breakfast and dinner are super overpriced. I get that you need to get things up there by helicopter. Though you pay 6€ for breakfast which is only one coffee, some cookies and some dry bread which is not even real bread. The. You pay 16€ for dinner which consists of a soup with bread and only one main dish which was pork and mashed potatoes. That itself tasted good but it wasn’t enough to get saturated. Thought there was a starter and maybe two main dishes or at least more of the main dish then. No desert either and just tap water and not even another drink. So all in all just too much for what you get even considering the circumstances. The sleeping places where all right 16 beds per dorm.
