Amazing experience! I went in looking to demo a sleeping mat and Cameron was extremely helpful. I tried 3 or 4 different mats until i found the perfect one that i needed for my trip. After that i got some direction on a nice sleeping bag as well. The experience here was top notch and professional. I got tons of info on the items that i bought. The guys here at REI really care about their customers.

If you're shopping for shoes... FIND KARINA!!! In planning for my upcoming PCT trip in June, I've been stressing about what shoes to get since day one of preparation. People recommend so many shoes with not enough information. Karina was so helpful in lending an ear, giving advice and insight to every shoe on the wall, and making sure I was able to try on every and anything I thought might work. Something that has been stressing me for months turned into an incredibly exciting trip, and I was able to find shoes I love. Thank you so much, Karina!!

I want to give a huge shoutout to two members at this location: Traci and Jody. Both have helped me on multiple occasions fitting packs, finding the right gear for whatever trip I’m taking and answering all the questions I have honestly. They are fantastic! My last trip to the store was to get a pack fitted for my son (8). Traci spent so much time with us, making sure the pack fit right and my son was comfortable in it. It was such an awesome experience and my son cannot stop talking about how excited he is to go camping. Would highly recommend this location and these team members for their expertise and friendliness.

Remind me not to go here ever again!! Go to Dallas or south lake.. they will find every excuse in the universe to refuse you a return.. example on your at 100% return.. yeah no shit I’m bringing the item back I don’t have a need for it or something is wrong with it.. that’s why I’m at 100% return.. this employee his name started with an H i can’t remember his name exactly a taller guy the rudest employee ever.. he needs some training on his customer service skills… oh this was this second time that this thing as happened to me.. then why did I pay 30 bucks to become a member if your not going to honor the return policy.. Plano location is a joke..

Google
There wasn't a lot of selection at this location. They do have everything for camping and bicycles but it just seemed very selective and not a broad selection. The store was clean and employees were wearing masks. The employees also asked if I needed any help and that is always a great sign. Overall a decent experience.

Google
Had a really good experience here. The employees we spoke to were really helpful. Ethan was super friendly and explained the membership program very thoroughly. Rico and K-dub were really knowledgeable about shoe fitting and offered lots of options. They also took time to bring us various sizes and to measure our feet as well. We will definitely be back.

Google
I won’t lie I avoid going to REI because I leave lots of money there every time I go in. It is not inexpensive by any means. It’s a good store with decent variety. I usually find what I am looking for. Friendly staff. I enjoy having a small conversation at the check out. Good culture .

Google
Great place but pretty disappointed with the service I got today. I went in today and asked about the return/exchange policy for a pair of HOKA shoes my bf had purchased. EJ, an employee there was really nice and told me there shouldn’t be any issues doing an exchange as long as he was as an REI member, which he was. I asked if the shoes being worn would be a problem, he said no. I asked if he needed the box, he assured me again that it wouldn’t be an issue. I called my bf to let him know the good news and he drove all the way to the store with his old shoes. When we went to go process the exchange, EJ told us they couldn’t be exchanged because they were worn. We then purchased the shoes I’d grabbed and paid full price. I felt like I was misled to be honest. It was a complete shift from what I was told 15 -20 minutes earlier. Needless to say, it was a waste of our time to have my BF drive up there just so we could be told no after being told yes. I get the shoes were worn, but why tell me that wasn’t going to be a problem and then say something completely different when it was time to do the transaction? It was embarrassing for the both of us standing there.

Yelp
I cannot say enough great things about my recent experience at REI Plano. As someone new to backpacking, I walked in feeling a bit overwhelmed by the sheer number of options and the level of expertise required to make informed decisions about gear. I knew I needed a sleeping mat that was comfortable, lightweight, and suitable for backpacking trips, but I wasn't sure where to start. That's when Caleb stepped in and completely changed my shopping experience. From the moment Caleb approached me, I could tell he was genuinely passionate about outdoor gear and helping customers find what works best for them. He didn't just ask me what I was looking for--he took the time to ask about my backpacking plans, the type of terrain I'd be on, and what kind of sleeper I was (side, back, etc.). His thoughtful approach immediately put me at ease. What stood out most was Caleb's depth of knowledge. He explained the different types of sleeping mats REI carries, highlighting the pros and cons of foam, self-inflating, and inflatable mats. He broke down technical details like R-value (which I had no idea was so important for insulation) and how it affects warmth on colder nights. It was clear that he wasn't just trying to sell me something; he was educating me so I could make the best decision for my needs. Caleb also went the extra mile by showing me how to properly set up and deflate the mats, which I really appreciated since I'd never used an inflatable mat before. He even pulled out a few mats and let me test them right there in the store! Lying down on the different options while Caleb pointed out their unique features made all the difference in helping me choose the perfect one. I ended up selecting a mat that met all of my criteria: lightweight for backpacking, compact for easy packing, and insulated enough to handle cooler nights in the backcountry. I couldn't be happier with my choice, and I wouldn't have been able to make such an informed decision without Caleb's help. But Caleb's exceptional service didn't stop there. He also recommended a few accessories that I hadn't considered, like a repair kit for the mat in case of punctures and a small pump sack to make inflating it easier. His recommendations were thoughtful and practical, not pushy or sales-driven, which I really appreciated. The store itself is also worth mentioning. The Plano REI is incredibly well-organized and stocked with a wide variety of high-quality outdoor gear. It's clear that REI takes pride in maintaining a clean and inviting environment, and the staff's expertise and friendliness set this location apart. Thanks to Caleb's guidance, I left feeling confident and excited about my upcoming backpacking trip. It's rare to find customer service this outstanding, and Caleb truly went above and beyond to ensure I had a positive experience. I'll definitely be returning to REI Plano for any future gear needs, and I hope Caleb is there to help me again! If you're looking for outdoor gear or just need expert advice from someone who genuinely cares about your adventure, I highly recommend stopping by REI Plano. Be sure to ask for Caleb--he's an absolute rock star and a shining example of what customer service should be! Another thing to note that i'm happy about is the Value that the co-op program provides. It's actually amazing and you can return anything for a full year if you don't like it. That blows my mind and this is the main reason i'll buy all my gear from here versus other department stores.

Yelp
We have been very pleased with this store and its wares! 1. Fast and friendly (expert) advice and help 2. Outdoor needs - they have it! 3. Great selection and super sales - great everyday prices too 4. Purchased our kids bikes here 5. All our supplies for our national park excursions are found here - clothing and otherwise!

Wesley C.

Yelp
I am a bigger guy, and was hesitant to buy a new pack. So went to the Plano store and received help finding a good fit and how to adjust it. Have been back many times since then for dog stuff, clothes, jackets, and tried on some shoes. Great service every time. Will keep going back.

Ted F.

Yelp
the cashier was rude and lied. When I checked out, he kept trying to force me to sign up for membership. When I had enough and told him to stop, he called his manager and told him that I was rude and threatening him. WTH?! I was in a hurry and had no time to complain to the manager so I just paid and left. Later on I called the REI customer service and he (first name is Will) told me the manager will contact me. Haven heard anything yet!

Daniel A.

Yelp
I had been going there for outerwear and footwear for years. They have a good selection of some high end brands. But, so do many other retailers. Most of their shirts, jackets and socks seem over priced to me, but they also have a discounted house brand available. I had left because the staff hassles me to get on their frequent buyer plan every time I'm there. It's a high pressure sales pitch (similar to facing a car salesman); they won't take no for an answer, and the more you say no, the ruder they get. The staff must get bonuses getting people to agree to those things. There's some marketing wizard at the head office who's found out how to brainwash people: "You'll save money!". "You'll get points!". "You're part of a club!". " You'll get return privileges for a year!". (None of that matters to me if I can find similar things at Target at a lower cost, or if I could do without the things altogether). To top it all off, they had tricked me into buying shoes that were a half size too big. Why are they always out of so many of them? I can order from places that have much better selection that deliver to my door. I read those frequent buyer programs are really there to try and increase same store sales (a key metric in the business), and keep customers from changing to competitors. I'm going to be buying Amazon from now on. I know what my sizes are now, and can order all the same things with full return privileges without ever getting a high pressure sales pitch.

Yelp
I've been to REI twice now and have experienced such excellent customer service! The staff are always so approachable and kind, they're ready to answer all of your questions and definitely know what they're talking about. What I also appreciate is that if they don't know, they won't lie to you and they won't try to upsell you. They'll likely go ask someone else for help, or point you to the right resources. A kind gentlemen helped me fit into multiple types of shoes so I could get an idea of what type of hiking boot would best fit my hiking lifestyle - it was a great experience and you can definitely count on the staff to point you in the right direction. We had some questions with our account also and the woman behind the customer service counter was able to answer them promptly and thoroughly.

Joey W.

Yelp
I get some of the best customer service from this REI, the associates are always so friendly and helpful. Their customer service makes it my favorite REIs. They also have a pretty good selection in the Resupply. Only thing this REI is missing is being able to rent camping gear like tents.

Anna N.

Yelp
Best deals for Black Friday, this is my favorite location I've been to. Line took a while, but employees were efficient

Guy H.

Yelp
It's dangerous to come in this place because they have everything you need for an outdoor adventure. Cameron helped me out with the right fit for some great boots to flatten the trails on my upcoming adventure.

Karen J.

Yelp
I had to purchase a walking stick. I am not a hiker. Hiking is walking from my car to the check in counter at a Hilton. The gentleman in the department was very helpful. Sorry I didn't get his name. He took the time to explain how it worked and even fitted it for my height. On check out I met Nicole. She too was sweet. Took the time to explain the history of the store. I'd shop here again and I am not a hiker.

Don G.

Yelp
They did what two other bikes shops did. They did a proper tune up and cleaned everything like new. I am very happy my gears work appropriately now.

Xavier M.

Yelp
Such friendly service here! All of the associates are always so helpful and go the extra mile to ensure you have everything you need for your adventure!

Cassie S.

Yelp
Shopping for my first ever backpacking trip in Colorado!! Dave had some of the best customer service I've seen. He checked in on us right away to make sure we were getting everything we need. He showed extensive knowledge about backpacking and stayed with us the whole time, and even stayed late, to help me pick the best of the best materials while keeping costs down!! We were in good hands and I am confident I have everything I need! 5 stars for Dave!

John E.

Yelp
REI has everything you need for our next camping trip or outdoor activity. This is a fun place to shop!

Marianne P.

Yelp
I never thought I'd go to REI because I'm not backpacking across America. HOWEVER, I stand corrected because there are so many great and practical things here for the average indoorsy person, too! They had a great shoe selection and a lot of cute Patagonia clothes. This is the place to go if you need to buy a gift for a guy. HANDS DOWN! An employee sat in the front and made sure there weren't too many people in the store. There was a sign that asked for every customer to use hand sanitizer before entering the store.

CJ L.

Yelp
I love this store. There is always something to find here. The staff is very knowledgeable about the products and services and are friendly and helpful, no matter your level of experience or expertise.

Tim S.

Yelp
Employees behave as though they are drugged and/or incompetent. Went in looking for a simple enough product explicitly listed on the website and was met with blank stares, meandering service, droopy speech, nonsensical feedback and even a little attitude. Avoid at all costs.

Lysa Lisa F.

Yelp
Went here because my derailleur snapped.... By the time it was said and done I spent 150 ...100 was for the so called "tune up" .... Couldn't tell the difference in the bike and they even had the audacity to rig the breaks !!!!!! Why ????SAVE YOUR MONEY AND JYAY MAYBE GO TO A REAL BIKE SHOP !!!!!

Mike R.

Yelp
This place is stocked for most of your outdoor adventure sporting needs. Plenty of selections for rock climbing, kayaking, hiking, and biking. Gear available. Sleeping bag selection is ok, tent selection is minimal, backpack selection is extensive. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. Eager to assist if asked and they don't press you for sales. Plenty of parking available.

Leslie L.

Yelp
Talk about great customer service!! My husband wanted a backpack for our upcoming hiking trip and they spent about 30+ minutes showing him all his options, how to properly put it on, and all the pros and cons. I love me a store with a friendly staff docking one star only because the selection for shoes and clothing is a little small, BUT you can still find great items!

Kristen B.

Yelp
During COVID Shop at Cabela's! This store has fitting rooms and restrooms closed and they don't have try-on socks available. Cabelas is providing all of these and had a much better experience. The manager at this location was the only employee with any empathy. Other associates were very uppity over the policy and apathetic. You would think for a retail location that already has over market prices, they would be more customer focused. This is the third time we've left this store completely off put. We try to give them a chance. But unless you want them to share their infinite outdoor wisdom, don't expect them to help you.

Hornet R.

Yelp
I never leave Yelp reviews. Nick, Drew, and Ashley (I think was her name) were fantastic at the bike shop. I blew out two tires on my EMTB yesterday. I walked the bike over to another bike shop and the tech told me I trashed my wheels and needed new ones. Out of desperation, I came to REI for a second opinion, and I'm glad I did. I found my new go to bike shop. Drew took meticulous care of the wheels. He filed down the damaged portion to leave a clean seam, cleaned out my old sealant, and put new sealant in with new tires. The wheels were incredibly clean when he was done with them. I came in thinking I needed to buy new wheels and new tires, but Drew and his team were able to fix me up with just new tires. I always applaud businesses that have a repair first mindset. If a repair is possible, I'm confident this team would figure it out. So if another bike shop or tech gives you bad news, come see Drew and his team at this REI for a second opinion. What a breath of fresh air this experience was. They earned a repeat customer.

Eric B.

Yelp
If others stores had customer service like I received here the online companies would be out of business. Wife and I have been out researching gear for an upcoming vacation and came here for trail shoes and a few other items and actually planned to go home after and purchase online. After spending time with Daniel in the shoe dept and learning much more than expected including all about socks and where they were made and why, I came back and bought from the store the following weekend and bought here Really just an overall good shopping experience both times we went in

Shannah H.

Yelp
Really love this shop - good pricing (if you're a member) and knowledgeable salespeople to help you make decisions. It's also a great source for quirky specific things you want to touch and try rather than simply ordering on Amazon. It's main drawback is it's slightly smaller footprint than other stores in town. But it makes up for that in not having crazy long lines. I'd also like to see them offer more specialty classes so I don't have to trek to Dallas.

David S.

Yelp
The cycling department is unprofessional and amateurish. Communication skills are lacking. They don't back up what is promised. Bicycle building skills are poor. Don't buy a bicycle from REI Plano. You'll regret it.

Jeff H.

Yelp
prepare to be stalked if one of the employees thinks you are wearing your mask wrong, I'm shopping and talking and "oh no my nostril hole is showing" here come the rei police to interrupt my shopping. Done. Membership cancelled I've spent 1000s of dollars here bye taking my money elsewhere

Tiana L.

Yelp
Nice clean store. Ellie in the shoe department was so nice and helpful. She continuously brought out shoes for me to try on with a smile! Very helpful!

Matthew N.

Yelp
The best outdoor store! I got my camelback here a few years ago and trail shoes and still use them to this day! Great quality equipment and camping supplies.

Jan M.

Yelp
Great customer service! Broke a toe a couple weeks ago. Sheila helped me try on so many kinds of shoes to get a wide toe box so that I can run my dog at an agility trial this weekend. She knew that I was likely trying on sizes to order because I specifically wanted a color that we had already determined that the store did not have. I tried on a zillion pairs of shoes to get one that fit perfect. She was so amazing, and I found the perfect fit for the absolute perfect shoe for my sport. She remembered that there was a different color that they did not had. Called up the Dallas store and held a pair. Sheila was so knowledgeable and so willing to help me. I also noted that she had other customers that were asking questions and she gave knowledgeable answers.

James V.

Yelp
I have always loved REI for a multitude of reasons. I was a big camper as a kid, so my Dad and I would go to the store regularly to update our camping gear, load up on snacks and power bars and other great supplies. I have yet to come to an REI and not leave with the item I came looking for. The store is laid out really well and I love the variety of products they have there. The employees are eager to help you and are usually quite knowledgeable. It is a bit pricey, but that is pretty typical for camping gear in general. You get your bang for your buck though; the gear is usually high quality and if for some reason it does break, REI has a return policy up to the length of a full year. ~Carpe Diem~

Evelyn A.

Yelp
This REI is full of outdoor wonderment. If you want to camp, fish, hunt, hike, travel, bug catch, or just enjoy a stroll in some awesome shoes, this is the place to shop. My daughter even bought a rolly polly farm here once. She loved it! They have community activities and lots of advice for what to get for your next great adventure.

Antony M.

Yelp
It really pains me to write this review. I've been a REI member for years, but this particular store is pretty terrible. The selection at this location is poor. They only have one of many items and they're often out of sizes on much of their clothing, even after coming back a few times every couple of days. The real kicker is the staff is very disengaged. I've wandered around the store needing help only to get curt and dismissive answers from employees who never even broke their stride. Several of the displays have been a disorganized mess on several occasions as well. And this is REI here- they are NOT a discount store by any means so you're paying top dollar for poor selection and service. If I ever shop at an REI again it won't be the Plano location.

Tammy L.

Yelp
DON'T shop here The girl at the door was polite but the other employees were horribly rude! We will NEVER shop at this location again and maybe not at any REI after this experience!

Lee K.

Yelp
Since I became a boring aging punk who enjoys hiking mountains in his spare time and moved to Collin god damn County for some reason beyond me, this is the REI that I frequent the most. Recently, we waited in a gigantic line for the quarterly garage sale at this REI. About 1.5 hours early, and we were at least 150 people deep in the line. So, if you are looking to be one of the first people in at the garage sale, be sure to be there several hours early. Also, be aware that this location may not have as many garage sale items as the Dallas location on NW highway. As far as the products go, this location is legit. Yes, a bit smaller than others and only a few of the higher end kayaking items to peruse, but legit nonetheless. The staff is also extremely helpful and knowledgeable about all things outdoors. Lean on them for anything you need. They are more than happy to help out.

Chris L.

Yelp
Nice sized store. Well stocked for the most part. They have a great selection of bikes and bike toys. From bike helmets, to pumps, shoes, etc. Make sure to keep an eye out on the clearance area in the back. But clearanced items still are a bit pricey.

Tony A.

Yelp
This was a smaller location with a more limited inventory than I'm used to but still a treat to walk into an REI. I wish I had one closer to home. Only complaint I had with this visit was that no one ever greeted me or asked if I needed any help. I know that this may be welcomed by many but I'm still a bit old fashioned and like the personal sales approach. Aside from all though, I would highly recommend visiting this location and become a member. Really a great company to support.

Craig W.

Yelp
Whatever you do be careful about buying items from the garage sale. I bought a suitcase that was on sale with some scuff marks and I got home and the zipper was completely broken. I took it back and they said garage sale items cannot be returned. The manager was not helpful at all. I paid $80 for a worthless suitcase that I can't use. Shame on my for not reading the garage sale rules, but if someone bought something from my garage sale and it was broken I would have been a lot more human about it if they brought it back and tried to make it right. Thanks for understanding REI, you know how much money I have spent with you over the years, I am out.

Doug C.

Yelp
I really like what they have to sell. Just I don't do the outdoor stuff so much anymore. Nature is still out there, just not me. Very upscale and quality goods and service. Great place just to shop. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Probably best to go on weekday if you need a lot stuff and need to ask questions. Weekends very busy place. Buy enough stuff and you get $$ back when you are member of their co-op, Ask about it.

Michael W.

Yelp
REI is definitely a place for active folks. Not only they sell the equipments, they offer classes too. I will say they are very customer oriented and everyone that works there appears to have a "genuine" friendly outdoor attitude. I do enjoyed shopping for my climbing gears there.

Don M.

Yelp
REI's stance on suppliers that support the NRA is disappointing. I just spent a lot of money with them on hiking gear and was impressed until now. What disappoints me is the knee jerk make me feel good decision. It doesn't make me feel good that they don't seem to support my 2nd Amendment right. I have to drive 45 miles to shop at REI. I will never waste my time or my money with them ever. I'm done.

Byoung Kyu S.

Yelp
REI rocks! Most things are pricier when compared to sporting goods stores but you definitely get what you pay for. The staff is super helpful. They will answer all your questions, regardless of how many dumb questions you ask. And they never try to upsell things to you even attempt to sell you anything. They simply answer all your questions and provide you all the information you need to make informed decisions. It's definitely worth it to become a co-Op member. It's just an one-time fee of $20 but you get a % back at the end of the year in the form of dividend that can be used towards a purchase or cashed. Being a member also allows you to return things with out a receipt. And the best part about being a member is the member's only garage sale. The garage sales are just awesome!

Martin D.

Yelp
First off I'll say this I've been to several REI locations in the US from Denver, to Colorado Springs, to 2 in New Mexico, to Austin and the other one in Dallas. This was the first time going to this location because I was in the area. Now in all my experiences with REI I rarely get so much as a greet or a can I help you. I don't usually need help I know what I'm looking for when I'm there. I assume they assume I don't do a lot of the stuff they sell or maybe the way I'm dress or maybe it's because I'm a big guy lol. I work in retail so I can't help but notice when I'm not helped in a store. Today however I stopped in looking for a way to hang my bike in my garage. I was greeted the minute I stepped through the door! Already I'm like wow I was greeted at REI! Then I was helped out by Andy and Adam who I believe work in the bike section. Both gave me their honest opinions on which was the best bike rack available and it wasn't just the most expensive one they had. Got what I needed and I was on my way. Then I decided I was gonna look at the shoes because I want to go camping memorial weekend, and what do I hear when I walk in the shoe area? " Can I help you out?" Again!! Wow! This store is on their game! Hands down the best REI I've been to. I didn't get the shoes today just the bike hanger rack thingy they recommended but I'll be back again for my shoes memorial week.

Chad C.

Yelp
It's a good thing REI isn't closer to me! Knowledgable people who like their jobs and want to help are the norm here. Good advice abounds! It's not the cheapest option, but they've got great stuff.

O. C.

Yelp
Poor selection of shoes in this location. I have to drive to rei near Northpark but it's ok. I get to try on many different styles.

Chelsea R.

Yelp
REI is the one stop shop for everything outdoor! I've purchased hand held water bottles here for running, workout gear and etc. Next I'm headed here to get a headlamp so I can use it for a trail race I'm doing soon! The customer service is great too. Everyone here is extremely helpful, knowledgeable and will go out of their way to find a solution. I've also seen camping supplies and things of that nature here if that is your thing. It's worth checking out...if there's something you aren't able to find in another outdoor store, they may have it here!

Alex L.

Yelp
Love the company but this store has plenty to work on. I spent a solid 30-40 minutes in the store happily strolling through the outer wear from the current sale that started last week. I don't know how many green vests passed by me just to give me a glance to size me up to see if I was actually buying something. Compared to the Dallas store, the Plano location has the spirit of a broken toy. I remember this place used to be upbeat and positive. I tried spending 10 minutes in footwear but still got the same response. I didn't feel like spending money at a place that I didn't get acknowledged... not even a smile or a nod. Moving on.

Kim L.

Yelp
I ordered something online and was all set to pick it up from this location. First, it didn't come in on time. I it was estimated for Tuesday and I had planned to pick it up on Wednesday for use the next day, Thursday, which happened to be Thanksgiving Day. It didn't come in until Friday. The estimated delivery was actually pushed back until Saturday, which would have been a disaster because I don't live in Dallas and I was leaving early Saturday. Still, I ended up having to purchase something else to use on Thursday because of this delayed order. Once I went to pick it up, the process was far more complicated than it should have been. The whole point of ordering online and picking up from a store is not having to wait in-store, right? Wrong, it would seem REI thinks. The employee couldn't find my order for the first 10 minutes, then she had problems scanning it out to me. I had to present the order confirmation as well as an ID and our membership card, which were under my boyfriend's name -- I was lucky he was with me. Then I had to sign a few things as well. Ugh. REI doesn't seem to understand "convenience." Perhaps the employees and executives should spend sometime indoors and on the web to learn how to improve their customer service. :P

Bradley H.

Yelp
Went to this REI store tonight with a good buddy as he wanted to buy some shoes for climbing. The store was cleaned and organized and we could easily find the climbing section. A friendly employee asked if he could help us and then he gave my buddy a larger shoe size than the rack had so he ended up buying the shoes. Our cashier, Andy, had a nice personality and the shoes were even on sale too! Overall, nice place to buy outdoor gear.

Chad F.

Yelp
Quick employee helped me pick out a $10 stuff sack that reverses as a camping pillow. He told me what he had bought and what he didn't like about it. Pricey place but I enjoy coming.
