Nice hike up to the waterfall that inspired Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. The cascade was a bit weak on the day we visited so a little underwhelming. Shame the funicular wasn't running but after driving to the area the walk did us good. I think had it not been made famous it wouldn't be more impressive than the many other falls coming down along the mountain faces, but non-the-less we enjoyed the visit and would certainly recommend for fans of Sherlock Holmes.

This cascade is THE BEST ! Absolutely stunning, better than Lauterbrunnen. Great funicular, old fashioned, real adventure trip. Your kids will love the ride. Buy the round ticket with the Aareschlucht. Not expensive. Then you follow the trail to the Aareschlucht, 2h. Take along some food you’ll find drinks at the gas station when you get back to the road before the Aareschlucht 😍

Started with amazing views all over the mountains. Then you take the funicular train and at every meter you go up the views are always breath taking. The waterfall is amazing as well the information about Sherlock Holmes. Loved it

Took the train up and hiked down. Hike is steep in some places. Lots of fun. We also hiked up to the top. Beautiful views of the falls and the area. Worth a visit and very impressive in person. We came for Sherlock and even the non-Sherlock readers enjoyed the visit.

A great excursion to famous falls. The funicular was well worth it, and then the short hike was nice with lovely views.

The Sherlock Holmes funicular in Meiringen opened in 1899 to connect the village with Reichenbach Falls, the site of Holmes’ legendary showdown with Moriarty. Originally powered by water ballast, it was restored in the 1990s and now carries visitors up the same dramatic route, blending Swiss engineering with literary history.

It's a little pricey, but when you factor in the engineering behind the infrastructure and how amazing the walk is, I wouldn't advise you miss it. It was raining when we went and it just added to the experience. Highly recommend 👍 The walk is accessible by travel/compact pram (maybe wheelchair? There are a few tight sections) for about 50% of the trip. Of that, the best parts to view would be in that first accessible section. There are a few sets of stairs but nothing too difficult.

The ride is smooth with short queues, quickly taking you to the waterfall’s midpoint, where stunning views await. Nearby, the Sherlock Holmes Museum delves into the famous encounter between Holmes and Moriarty, as written by Arthur Conan Doyle. For more exploration, stairs lead higher up the falls, though the path may be difficult for elderly or disabled visitors. The top offers breathtaking valley views and access to a hiking trail for adventurous hikers. Tips: - You can purchase tickets online. - Arrive early to avoid crowds. - If you have a car, visit the waterfall for free by driving to the top (use Google Maps), then follow signs to descend via the trail path.
