Reid's Palace, A Belmond Hotel, Madeira

We only went for afternoon tea, it was exceptional, the settings are fantastic and ideal to chill for an afternoon. The food was excellent all homemade, far too much to eat we took home for supper. Yes it was expensive but worth it as a one off wonderful experience.

This place kept getting recommended to us by various people so we thought we would try it for some winter sun. We will 100% return!! The service, the food, the ambiance, everything was divine!! We popped over for a three night break to see what we thought and really didn’t want to leave! Highly recommend if you are looking for somewhere to recharge your batteries. The spa was also amazing!!

Went to a Reid’s palace for coffee with a view. Good coffee, beautiful ambience and delicious cakes. A must-visit spot for a spectacular sunset at the terrace. PS Special thanks to a great hospitality and a welcoming staff who explain us the concept of the hotel/restaurants, their own garden and herbs that they use for their all dishes.

Reid's Palace is a wonderful venue. We booked a seaview room and were upgraded to a sea view suite, which was spacious, had a wonderful balcony where we read and relaxed. There are many levels to Reid's Palace requiring the use of one or two sets of elevators to arrive at your destination. There are two heated pools available and uncrowded - one salt water and one fresh water. The 1891 Bar has outstanding views, service, and selection of beverages, snacks and light meals. The Christmas buffet was poolside, and like most Christmas buffets was bustling with people and children.

Where time stands still above the Atlantic. Reid’s Palace is a place of quiet grandeur. The gardens are enchanting, the direct access to the sea is truly unique, and the atmosphere feels timeless. What elevates the experience most is the staff—exceptionally warm, attentive, and genuinely caring. The only reservation lies in the value for money. While the setting and service justify a premium, the quality of the lunch offering did not fully live up to the expectations one has of a hotel at this level. That said, Reid’s Palace remains a wonderful retreat, rich in character and charm, and leaves behind beautiful, lasting memories.

Luxurious setting on terrace, with live background piano accompaniment to add to atmosphere; Highly proficient and welcoming staff; Afternoon tea certainly different and tilted more towards Portuguese cuisine. Decent-size portions; Wide selection of tea choices; Would have preferred clotted cream to whipped cream (but possibly an over-expectation); Needless to say, reservation is essential; We both suffered a mild stomach issue afterwards, but possibly a personal reaction to truffle flavours on some savoury items; Obviously priced for luxury, but we've been wanting to go here for ages and the overall experience did not disappoint.
