I visited the Reinhold Messner Haus on Monte Elmo in August 2025, and as a huge mountain lover and longtime fan of Messner, I was deeply moved by his latest project.
This museum is a true masterpiece and a place of immense peace. It is housed in a former mountain station that has been brilliantly upcycled into a very modern, sleek space, yet it retains a profound Himalayan spirit. Inside, you’ll find a beautiful mix of art and souvenirs that Messner has collected over his lifetime, all set against the backdrop of the peaks.
Practical Information:
- The Experience: It feels like a meditative journey through the mountains. I really loved the vision behind this place, it's much more than just a museum.
- Duration: You’ll want about 1 to 2 hours to really soak it all in.
- Pricing: Entry is €15 per person.
- Money-saving tip: If you are coming up via the gondola, be sure to buy the combined lift and museum ticket at the valley station for a nice discount.
If you love the soul of the mountains, don’t miss this. It is a stunning addition to the Sesto/Sexten area!
