Yelp
A absolutely famous restaurant at the "old market" in Maastricht, a town with French and Spanish influence. A must to visit all the old buildings some even from around 1400, the old churches and Cathedrals, the statues and ofcoarse the famous terrasses to be found everywhere in the town. Have a look at the amazing architecture in the town-centre a project of Mr Leers the mayor of the town, he has done a fabulous job and as the people of Maastricht say: "chapeau". Just visit the Vrijthof or Onze Lieve Vrouwe plein with the old basilique, go after six o'clock and taste the atmosphere. The "frituur" has some specialities as "zoervleis", Goulash and Mussels. Try a large portion of genuine home made chips with zoervleis and rolmops-mayonaise and take a portion of the famous "zeeuwse" mussels, a meal on his own, the taste: never to forget. Try also a genuine Brand beer the famous one from the south of Holland. Just enjoy your day. Opposite the markt-friture you find van Leendert, the fishmonger, try their raw-haring with onions and have a look how the locals eat it, the best their is. On Friday a huge farmers market with specials as vegetables, fruit and fish, attracting people from Belgium, Germany and even from France. Maastricht has a mixed community with a own dialect and even with a Japanese university. Worth to visit, indulge yourself and take a weekend break in one of the smaller hotels; service, good food and friendly hosts. You will make new friends.
