This was the second Asilia camp that we stayed at during our 2 1/2 week trip to Africa. This camp is situated along a river, full of hippos. At night, some of the hippos can be a little noisy, so if you are a light sleeper, i would recommend ear plugs. We were in tent number 7 which may be one of the noisier ones. However, this is a first class place. The room was very well situated, facing the river, with 2 chairs and a lounge couch in the tent to sit and enjoy the view. Because it is an open camp, at night a Maasai warrior, with a flashlight and spear, accompanies you to and from your tent. |Every one of the workers at the camp are so friendly. At all of the Asilia camps that we went to, a group of them greeted us with a song. We had breakfast in the bush every day, but you could start at camp and have a hot meal if you preferred. And at sundown, we had drinks at a safe place to watch the sunset. One night, they had set up a full bar under a tree in the Maasai Mara to celebrate the sundown. |Our guide, LIvingston, was an excellent driver and it was amazing the animal spottings he was able to do. At times, there are lots of 4x4s around an animal sighting, and he was excellent at reading us and knowing when to leave so that we could enjoy more sightings. |The food was excellent, the lodge was beautiful, and evenings around the campfire before dinner were magical.
