The Hotel Charles-Alexander exceeded my expectations. My room was very clean and spacious, with nice amenities including a coffee machine, refrigerator, and sofa. The location cannot be beat. It is on a main road and is an easy 20 minute walk into the old upper town. Many restaurants are a 5-10 minute walk. The bus goes right by the hotel, but I did not need it. The cannot Musee de Beaux Arts is a 5 minute walk. However it’s in a quiet, attractive section of the street. . building has lots of charm. There is no elevator as it is an older building, but management notifies you ahead of time in case you cannot manage stairs and need a first floor room. This was no problem for me. The hotel has an electric keypad to get into the front door and your room, and it’s very easy to use, even for this older person. The manager texts you daily to see if you need anything and if everything is ok. I would definitely stay here again. Thank you!

The stay at the hotel was good. The room was clean, the bed was comfortable, the pillows was soft. The outlet for fridge and coffee machine didn’t work until next day at 9 am. Communication by staff was by phone, the staff was very nice and helpful. In overall we liked the stay, and hope to see you next time. We enjoyed our time here.

Paid extra for a spacious queen room with three pentagonal windows. The room was 1/4 the size of what we saw in the pictures and it was terrible. I also paid extra for a parking space, they gave us spot 7 but someone else took it. They told us to park at any other available spot. It didn't make sense for me to be paying extra for reserving a spot when this was going to happened. Additionally, there was no receptionist at the front. Nothing is maintained and it is just chaotic here. Customer service is also terrible, they just don't care and lie about the rooms. I'm considering reporting to the OPC about this. As a consumer, I don't feel I got what I paid for and feel I'm being scammed. It feels like a violation of the Consumer Protection Act. (After your reply) The pictures weren't deceptive and i saw the floor plan. I know you have the room just like the picture. What's really hypocritical is the fact that I talked to your on-the-phone virtual receptionist about this and you have four rooms under the same name and same price but different sizes. Also, you only have that picture to advertise all those four rooms. How can you say this wasn't false advertising when only one guest out of the four who reserved the place gets the room in the picture?

I stayed here twice. Once in October 2024 and once in Aug 2025. The first time the hotel was great. It had a receptionist and breakfast. The hotel also has a great location and the rooms are clean. However, now the hotel has a new management and there is NO STAFF at all. All the communication is by phone and the keys are digital as well. Opening and closing the doors was confusing. There's no staff on site to guide you. We needed help to lock one of our doors and had to wait for 30 mins for someone to come and show us. While there were no other problems, calling them for everything check-in, parking, housekeeping, checkout etc. was irritating. I fail to understand why they chose a completely virtual experience for this hotel. What happens when people need medical help or if there are unruly elements in the hotel or vicinity? How can you be in the service industry and virtually provide a service? People in Canada need jobs, why not hire someone? While I love the hotel and the location I hate the mentally taxing fully virtual model they have adopted. Doubt I'd return unless that changes. I have no problems with technology adoption but you still need people on-site. It makes a difference.

WORST HOTEL EVER. Negative star if I can give one. I travel a lot and been to many hotels. This is by far the worst. They do not have a receptionist, and front door is locked. They did not send us the email with the access code. We had to call them and took so long to get the it. The code to open the actual room was also very confusing. There were no instructions. After that we went out again and came back at 9:30pm and the front door code doesn’t work. We had to call again and the guy said maybe someone locked it from the inside by mistake. He said he would come in 10min to open the door for us. We waited along with others who also try to get back from the hotel, the guy who came can’t even open the door. We had to wait another 5min for the guy to somehow sneak inside and open it. Horrible experience, horrible hotel rooms. Horrible idea to do this digital key and not have someone in the front desk to help with technical issues. Over all horrible concept of a hotel. Said note, the stairs going up were fine, kinda narrow but fine. Going down the stairs was a gamble. They have the kind of carpet that makes it look like it’s a flat surface, and the stairs were narrow, steep and have a turn. DO NOT RECOMMEND if you want a peaceful stay.

We booked this hotel for 3 nights, 4 days in mid-October. We got assigned a room on the top floor, right as you come up the stairs. At first, everything looked clean enough. However, several problems followed.... (1) There must have been some laundry facility or something on the same floor because there was a very strong smell of chemicals that overwhelmed us. I ended up getting a migraine within an hour or so and my partner had a scratchy throat. And we are not exactly "scent-sensitive" people, both of us wear perfumes and colognes. (2) If you are travelling with a pet, I recommend asking for a room away from the stairs. There is almost no soundproofing in the rooms (heritage building, cannot help it I suppose). It is worse if your room is right next to the stairs, which are very squeaky as other reviewers noted. (3) Room had dust balls next to the radiator and one of the glasses still had lip stick stain on them. At night, as I was on the bed, I saw a spider crawl across the ceiling. The next morning, I woke up to a spider in my show, and a centipede-looking bug crawl across the floor. (4) There is a communal kitchen, so we were expected to walk two flights of stairs every time we wanted a glass of water or make a cup of tea. No kettle in the room. And most definitely could not drink straight out of the tap... Did not taste right. (5) The room door did not latch properly unless you pushed or pulled on it really hard. On the first day, a random man just barged into our room, and did not explain why he did so, then just left after a quick "pardon". I was pretty paranoid about the door locking properly after that incident. (6) The location itself felt very safe. It is right next to almost the end of the plains of A. But it is a HIKE to get to the hotel from Gare du Palais. Lots of uphill stairs you will need to get through. (We walked, probably a good 45 minutes with intense flights of stairs; perhaps better with a car.) However, if you want to get to the tourist area, you will always have to make your way there, good 30-min walk one way. (7) This may not be a big deal to some folks, but the hairdryer was one of the white machines that is drilled into the wall. That is fine, I am okay with subpar hair dryers, BUT the metal mesh (usually the butt of the hairdryer) was literally scotch-taped to the hairdryer's nozzle, and it would fall off if you were to move the hairdryer around - i.e., to dry your hair. The fact that plastic like scotch tape was next to perhaps the hottest part of the hair dryer seemed like a huge risk, and if that mesh comes off, your hair can easily get sucked into the hair dryer. I chose not to use it after one try. Conclusion: I should have known better and paid a $100 per night extra to book at a more proper hotel. P.S., I saw some reviews speaking to the complicated access / digital key process. I did have trouble getting my access code early enough - I got it 2 hours prior to arrival, which was different from an earlier message that I should get instructions about 48 hours prior to arrival. Once I got the access code, it was easy to use it. There seemed to be no "digital key" anymore? I did not use my phone to access my room. It was simply the code given, for both the room door and the front door.

We had booked this hotel a few months ago and were traveling with another couple. Our room was on first floor, room 24. Bed was comfortable but, there is no window, well there is a window which open up into the hotels admin office., so no privacy, shower is like an old school gym shower with a round curtain, the floor of the shower is dirty, the television does not work. There is not front desk attendant. Room is like a sub par Air bnb . Also at 5am there was a lot of noise coming from either the room above or the admin office. Our friends paid the same but had a slightly better room.

Great location on the Grande Allee. Handy the restaurants and within walking distance of the old city. Rooms are spacious and clean. But had trouble getting Tv to work properly. Ii

Yelp
Que bonne hotel!! Found this via Booking.com and the hotel is better than I anticipated. It's located on a main road so it's central to both local and tourist spots. It's further from the Old Quebec but it's still walkable and very close to the Plains of Abraham. The ambience of this hotel is classy, elegant and boutique-y. Our room was located on the 2nd floor and what a lovely space it was. The showers were hot and the pressure was just the way I like it. The bed is comfy and there's an old desk that inspired me to write. The breakfast room is set up so beautifully with white flatware and everything just looks super Instagrammable. There are artworks all around and classical music plays in the lobby and it feels so relaxing to just sit on any of the chairs that are elegantly placed to welcome guests to sit and enjoy the view. I am more than satisfied with my first time visit here in Quebec. Returning to this place after a long day out exploring was just the type of relaxation people need from their hotels! The service was excellent and very accommodating. Je t'aime Hotel Relais Charles-Alexandre! Merci beaucoup!
