Relais San Giuliano (Viagrande, Sicily) 5 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Entering through a courtyard filled with the fragrances of the Mediterranean, guests arrive at this 18th-century noble estate, once the rural residence of the Marquises of San Giuliano. Today, the relais retains its historical allure: former structures such as the farmer's house, the wine press, the carriage shed, and the stables have been meticulously restored and repurposed into elegant rooms, suites, and inviting shared spaces, where history and modernity coexist in perfect harmony." - Tablet Hotels

We stayed at Relais San Giuliano for four nights. While the property itself is undeniably beautiful, there are several points future guests should be aware of. First, the location is far from ideal if you are seeking activities or a lively atmosphere. The surrounding town is very quiet with little to do, and the hotel sits directly beside a road where the 30 km/h speed limit is often ignored. Cars regularly sped past, which not only created noise but also made walking in the area feel somewhat unsafe. The hotel’s design and aesthetic are lovely and well thought out. However, the service fell short of expectations, especially given the price point. One of the main reasons we choose boutique hotels is for the attentive, personalized service. Yet here it felt more like staying at a bed and breakfast. Staff were difficult to find, and we received no real attention throughout our stay. When we raised a cleanliness concern, the reaction from the staff was surprisingly dismissive. At checkout, there was no assistance offered with luggage or any gesture to make up for the issue. Overall, while the property looks charming, the lack of service and disappointing attitude from staff left us underwhelmed.

We stayed at Relais San Giuliano for 5 days, and it was an incredible experience. All the staff (Enrico, Irene, and everyone else) made us feel at home, and what a home! The residence is wonderful, with an impeccable spa, pool, and garden. The food is outstanding: from breakfast to the poolside lunch restaurant, all the way to the magnificent iPalici. The room was very comfortable and beautifully decorated.

Had the most amazing time here - couldn't recommend it enough! The hotel is absolutely beautiful and full of amazing design features - but the stars of the show are the staff - they were incredibly thoughtful and helpful from day 1 to check out :) This place really is like an oasis, with everything within driving distance to explore, so you can concentrate on taking in everything the East coast of Sicily has to offer! Tip 1: If you get the chance to book a table in the hotel restaurant DO IT! The food was out of this world! Tip 2: The staff have some great suggestions for places to visit and eat - if you want to avoid the tourist traps and find little local gems, they know the places to be ;)
