11 Best Hotels in Tuscany, From the Coast to the Outskirts of Florence

"Bibbona The location: Bibbona, situated between beach and forest, and home to a centuries-old fortress and medieval piazzasTop amenities: Complimentary breakfast with an Instagrammable spread, guided farm tour with olive oil tasting, cooking class, holistic spa This dreamy farmhouse-style 16-room boutique hotel emulates the Tuscan experience to a tee. Guests enter a secluded tangle of ivy, rose gardens, stone walls, and wood beams, the stuff of Italian storybooks. The rooms and the dining program alike are top-tier. Bedrooms are full of antiques and rain showers, while the food offered includes fresh ingredients from the on-site garden and olive oil made on-property. The food was the favorite part for reviewer, Bridget Arsenault again, who also highly recommends the bookable cooking class: “There's daily lunch (poolside or in the whimsical garden) and you can order drinks throughout the day,” she writes. “Dinner is an otherworldly affair. You can also book an on-site cooking class and learn to make Tuscan classics like ribollita and pappa al pomodoro, fresh pastas with ragu, and tiramisu.” She also reports a romantic vibe, and says that you'll find plenty of honeymooners and couples here." - Alex Erdekian

3 Best Day Trips from Florence | Condé Nast Traveler

"Although Relais Sant’Elena Tenuta Gardini, a secluded Italian farmhouse, looks like an old, historic property, it was actually built in 2008. Flora and fauna dominate the grounds; the main building is covered in cascading ivy, and there's a rose garden where you could easily while away an afternoon. Each room is individually designed with a panoply of colors, fabrics, and prints; historic details like stone accent walls and wooden beams; and antiques from the owner's own collection. The food here is the real draw though: much of it comes from the organic gardens right on the grounds. Breakfast, for example, is a theatrical production that's included in the room rate, taking over a 19th-century farm table each morning: homemade jams, fresh pastries and breads, local yogurts, charcuterie, fruit, eggs, and cheese, including pecorino and ricotta, all presented with Instagram-worthy flair." - Bridget Arsenault

Relais Sant'Elena

"So, can you tell us a little about this place?Although Relais Sant’Elena Tenuta Gardini, a secluded Italian farmhouse, looks like an old, historic property, it was actually built in 2008. Flora and fauna dominate the grounds; the main building is covered in cascading ivy, and there's a rose garden where you could easily while away an afternoon. It sounds lovely. Who else is staying here? This 16-room boutique hotel is all about romance. You'll find a large proportion of honeymooners, as well as older couples celebrating double-digit anniversaries. Makes sense. How was check in? Check in here is incredibly straightforward and personal, as is every interaction with staff. A small boutique property, this is the type of place that will mail home your olive oil purchases, no questions asked, and spend 40 minutes waxing lyrical on local restaurant options if you have the time. That's our idea of perfection. Now, onto the good stuff: Tell us about the digs. Each room is individually designed with a panoply of colors, fabrics, and prints; historic details like stone accent walls and wooden beams; and antiques from the owner's own collection. The bathrooms have undergone modern updates; expect rain showers and local organic toiletries made from olive oil. Wow—they're quite considerate of olive oil! How about the little things, like the mini-bar, or shower goodies? Anything that made your stay more comfortable? All the basics are covered—laundry services, free wifi, and satellite TV. In-room heating comes courtesy of geothermal, solar, and photovoltaic panels. Bottled water is free; the minibar is restocked daily with beer, wine, and soft drinks. Perfect. How about room service, and the dining options in general: Worth it?The food here is a real draw; much of it comes from the organic gardens right on the grounds. Breakfast, a theatrical production that's included in the room rate, taking over a 19th-century farm table each morning: homemade jams, fresh pastries and breads, local yogurts, charcuterie, fruit, eggs, and cheese, including pecorino and ricotta, all presented with Instagram-worthy flair. There's also daily lunch (poolside or in the whimsical garden) and you can order drinks throughout the day. Dinner is an otherworldly affair. You can also book an on-site cooking class and learn to make Tuscan classics like ribollita and pappa al pomodoro, fresh pastas with ragu, and tiramisu. It doesn't seem like we'll need to venture far for food, then. How'd you find the service? The staff here is invested in your stay. Everyone's warm and passionate. Excellent. Any other services or features you'd like to shout out? Whether it’s childcare, gyms, spas, even parking—whatever stuck with you.Be sure to take a guided tour of the farm, taste the olive oil made on the estate, and visit the spa for blissful holistic treatments. Will do. Bottom line: worth it, and why? This is a magical spot that's beautifully designed and maintained." - Bridget Arsenault

Relais Sant’Elena completely exceeded our expectations. The setting is straight out of a dream - peaceful countryside, vineyards in every direction, and gorgeous details around every corner. The whole property is beyond charming.||Huge shoutout to the amazing staff. Every single person we met was warm, thoughtful, and made us feel genuinely taken care of. The hospitality here is something special.||The food was a real standout. Both breakfast and dinner were incredible every day. Fresh, local ingredients, simple Tuscan flavors, and a beautiful setting made every meal feel like an experience.||And we’ll never forget the live music night at the windmill. One of our favorite memories of the whole trip. Such a perfect evening.||We’re already talking about when we can come back. Can’t recommend this place enough!

This is really a very charming hotel. The countryside setting is beautiful, and there are flowers blooming all around. The food is fantastic!||I had a deluxe room both times in the Foresteria building adjacent to the main building. The rooms are nicely decorated in a country chic style. During my first stay, my room had a small screened in porch that overlooked the lawn and garden, which was very pleasant. During my second stay, my room was on the other side of the Foresteria building with an unscreened area with a small table and two parlor chairs and no real view (undesirable).||There are outdoor and indoor common areas where you may enjoy a meal or cocktails. Everything I ate there was very good. The breakfast is an amazing spread.||I took a 40-minute cooking class one afternoon that was enjoyable. ||Federica was an exceptional staff member who really hustled to make sure everyone's needs were met.||My only complaint was that the old-fashioned skeleton key lock on my room was a bit difficult to open and close.

"What was the best part of your holiday?" I asked my partner over lunch on the patio. "Arriving here" he replied, and i must say I have to agree. This place is heaven on earth and the perfect getaway for peace and quiet accompanied by excellent food and service. The grounds are absolutely stunning, teaming with islands of wild flowers. The patios are surrounded by bunches of large terracotta pots adorned with herbs and fruit. It's so lovely watching the person you just ordered a cocktail from pick fresh mint from a bush before heading to the bar. The interiors of the hotel have been thought out immaculately, beautifully complimenting the idea of a "country home in Tuscany" feel. The rooms are very comfortable and clean and the bathroom amenities like the body wash and shampoo are a dream to use, all products made with their very own olive oil. The common areas are all extremely comfortable, both inside and out, i loved curling up on the couch with a macchiato and a fresh baked biscuit in the afternoon. The service and the staff are really fantastic, you feel like you can ask for anything anywhere and it will be done. The food is simple, locally sourced and all made totally from scratch, many of the ingredients are also sourced from the hotel's estate giving everything a fresh farm to table feel. This was easily one of the best hotels we have ever stayed in and we will very definitely be back to stay again, thank you Sant'Elena for the perfect reset.

Whilst off the beaten track, this is a fantastic place to unwind after touring Tuscany. So peaceful in beautiful countryside. It was worth the diversion for the sheer beauty and tranquility. Excellent old farm house resorted to a very high level. Room was spacious with outstanding views. The staff were just lovely at all times and couldn’t do enough for you. Excellent food, much of which was sourced from their own farm. Highly recommended.

Wow! I found Relais Sant'Elena in an online search and it was everything I imagined it would be. The grounds, the rooms, the staff, the food, etc. We would go back without a doubt. It was beautiful, picturesque! The staff (especially Stefy's cooking classes - Amazing! - love her and Lorenzo - was so sweet, helped us with our luggage, conducted the Olive Oil tasting experience and served us dinner in the restaurant - they felt like family members!) The food was amazing - breakfast was lovely the setting, presentation and food! We also ate in the restaurant for dinner and it was top notch - the food, the service, the ambiance. We selfishly want to keep this property a secret, but they deserve all the accolades possible! The surrounding town of Bibbona is lovely too! Don't miss out on this property.

My husband and I had a fantastic time here for 3 nights. The food was very delicious both for breakfast and the dinner. The massage was heavenly and recommended. We also had a pasta making class with Stefany and Helen which was so much fun. We learned a lot from them both and they were very sweet and welcoming. The birds and the two cats made for a warm and calming atmosphere. It was truly unfortunate to leave as soon as we did, we hope to come back some day.

Relais Sant'Elena is a wonderful place to stay while wine tasting in Bolgheri. The property is beautiful and the rooms are very comfortable. We ate one night at the restaurant and it was fantastic. Breakfast was also great. Would definitely stay here again.

The property has beautiful visual aesthetics as the grounds are well maintained but for the price, I expected much more. I’m honestly not sure what food the other reviewers are referring to, as the meals were mediocre at best. The biggest disappointment was the tiramisu. After living in Italy for three years (in the Veneto region) I can say it was the most underwhelming tiramisu I’ve had. The rooms were just average and despite the well groomed grounds, there isn’t much of a noteworthy view. The highlight of the stay was exploring the scenic trail nearby on mountain bikes so a plus for having bikes available. Overall, aside from the well kept grounds, there’s nothing particularly special about this place. I’d recommend opting for a more affordable B&B that delivers better food and views.
