Staying in a restored Chinese herbalist's shophouse is a unique and wonderful experience. Absolutely loved the character of the building and the co-owner, Teng, was a fantastic resource for suggestions. The location of this property is fantastic, very near to tons of restaurants, Little India, currency exchanges, and other sights of interest. The steep wooden staircase and the collection of old medical paraphernalia gave this place a lot of charm and character. We also liked coming in at night and hanging out in the bistro area before going up to our room. We are very pleased that we chose to pay a little more in order to stay here. ||However, the breakfast was a letdown - it was not bad, just not that great. The cooked-to-order eggs, fruit, coffee/tea, and roti were all quite good but the rest of the offerings were meh. Also, our room was quite small and the bathroom not nice, as it has an unfinished concrete floor and no design/decor. there was no counter space to put toiletries. But, the shower itself was good - hot and strong.||We really like this hotel overall. We think it was a little overpriced, however understand it takes more money to have the privilege to stay in a restored historic building.

Great location, amazingly delicious breakfast, wonderful heritage building. Everything about our stay was wonderful and staff are nice After checking out, turns out I forgot my electric toothbrush. When we returned to the hotel prior to flying out, there was no staff in sight to ask. SInce then it has been 3 days trying to contact them via booking.com, directly and by phone to try to arrange to get it back and they do not respond to me. It is really weird as the whole stay was wonderful but once we check out they treat us as if we don't exist.

This hotel is full of charm and character, well curated and decorated, nothing like a chain or a copy-paste. Everyone was incredibly kind and arranging. The breakfast is delicious, varied, with all the influences we can find in Penang. The location is perfect, very central. It was a privilege to be able to stay there, the building also has an interesting history that the owners are sharing on display. Fantastic experience at Ren I Tang, I'd love to return

Was here with my family, booked 2 rooms. As mentioned by the hotel management, the staircase is quite narrow and steep, but the do have a small elevator. The rooms were nice and classic, and for the price we paid it was a bargain. Noise in the area could be a little loud at times. The workers were very welcoming and nice, always smiling and nothing was too much for them. Try the tea from the tea guy on bike in front of the hotel, it's very tasty.

Amazing 🤩 book it now! Can’t rate this place highly enough. The staff are incredible and the details that has gone into renovating this place in to how it used to be is incredible. You’ll feel well and truly transported back in time. It’s located in little India and you can watch the world go by from the restaurant/bar or your hotel window. It’s full of old world charm. We stayed for 4 nights and could have easily stayed for a month if we had the time. Had a great time here and will definitely come back.

This place was amazing. It was so well taken care of and so special, I want to stay in places like this always. Everyone was so kind and would give us amazing recommendations. At breakfast they even treated us to some amazing noodles. The stairs are steep but the elevator was perfect. Such a special place

There are several parts that are uncomfortable. The hot water can only be barely warm for three to five minutes and then gradually becomes cold (but it is bearable because of the hot weather). The stairs are short and narrow and you need to be very careful. The Indian music on the street is very crazy. If you want to rest in the room during the day, you will not be able to relax. In addition to the above,it’s a distinctive old house, the owner of this hotel is friendly, the staff of the cafe next door are always smiling, the air conditioning and ceiling fan in the room can quickly reduce the temperature, and you can quickly feel cool when you return to the room from the hot street. It is quiet at night and you can sleep well. The location is good, no problem to call Grab🚕 and it is easy to walk around to delicious restaurants and snacks, night markets etc.

I traveled to Penang with my relatives and friends. I am in my mid 70's and loved the charm, hospitality of this old gem in Georgetown. Everything was elegant and depicted old Malaya. The premises / building has an old feel to it from the furniture to the decor. Breakfast was more than adequate; the staff were very hospitable & helpful. Much nicer experience that a commercial chain hotel.

Yelp
My family of 4 (including two kids: 5 and 4 years) just returned home from a long weekend in George Town and we were so happy with our lodging choice! We were in the Family Room (#2) and really enjoyed it! Do note that the double bed is in it's own room while the two single beds are in what I'd call the main room. We ended up putting the kids in the double bed and my husband and I each took a single. This allowed us a little more space to hang out once the kids went to sleep. The staff at Ren I Tang are FANTASTIC - very tolerant of kids making themselves at home - in fact my daughter didn't want to leave before she could say goodbye. The owners and staff are committed to an environmentally sustainable space and that can be seen in the small details: no plastic straws, reusable glass water bottles, folded paper trash liners, etc. Breakfast is included and for us consisted of great coffee, eggs and pancakes. The lunch/dinner offerings at the cafe were an excellent surprise! I hadn't read much about the cafe but it was wonderful - the fresh produce was on point. Located right in the middle of Little India, it's a super jumping off point for wandering the area: street art, jettys, awesome food, etc. If you're after a unique place to eat and rest your head, this is the place to do it!
