For months, we debated whether to stay at the Hilton or Renaissance. As a Hilton Diamond, there was a good chance we’d get upgraded a suite (as we have at all our many Hilton stays throughout China).||However, the Renaissance kindly emailed a reminder that we had to reserve Forbidden City tickets a week before. As a Titanium, I asked if we could get upgraded to a Forbidden City view, and Guest Service Manager, Wendy Zhang, immediately emailed me back that she did. As an empty nest couple, we always prefer a nice view over a suite.||We really enjoyed the view (much clearer after a rain) from our 12th floor room (1207). It was only a little less than from the lounge on the 17th (there are no 13th or 14th floors). We could see the vast size of the Forbidden City, and Tiananmen Square, Jingshan and Behai Parks, and the Hutong below.||Our room was spacious, luxurious, clean, modern, and comfortable. The bedding was great.||The hotel is in a great, central location.|It is a 5 minute walk to the northern part of the Wangfujing pedestrian street. The hotel is a lot closer to the northern (exit) end of the Forbidden City than the southern (entrance) end. After exiting the Forbidden City, we walked back to the hotel in 15 minutes. There is a Family Mart across the street, and food stalls and restaurants close by.||Breakfast was OK.||The lounge was also OK. Many nights it was full, with only small, high tables in the corner available. The food was OK, but couldn’t compare to the delicious, inexpensive food in the Beijing restaurants.||We interacted little with other the staff, but had no major issues.||Siji Minfu, one of the recommended places for Peking duck, is a 5-minute walk away, again at the northern end of Wangfujing Pedestrian St. We had a 3-hour wait, but one can get number, follow the wait on their app, and wait at the hotel or walk the street.
