This was an interesting spot to interact with. I say interact because I got to partake in a few of the amenities it has to offer. I was all over the hotel, convention space, and at the one restaurant at one point. This is a well used hotel/spa/convention space. Kind of a hub for Montgomery.
I can concur that this is kind of a hotel where you don't want to leave, because, and I will go into this more in another review, Montgomery has some history, but not enough to keep you busy constantly. Especially not over a weekend, and when certain things don't open on some days or have limited hours.
I guess I can review this in three parts, room, service, convention layout. Let's start with the room. I have never been in a room like this before. I mean, kind of, but this room was unique. It was big and spacious. I had a double room, but obviously only used one bed. Tons of space for storage which I used. The view from my room wasn't anything to write home about. I was facing the back of the hotel which overlooked the parking garage and roofs of buildings. If I stretched my neck, and look either left or right, I could see the streets.
The bathroom was...uh...surprising. Most hotels you go to offers a combined tub/shower, or just a stand up shower. This one offered a stand up shower and a tub (which I never used). The tub feels like and afterthought in the space. As it is basically hidden behind the door. The shower stall was sufficient, but the water temperature control was one that teetered on millimeters. Tap it one way, you're frozen, tap it the other, your skin is melting off. I could never get it just right for the whole time. The shower stall also kind of serves as a nightlight in the room. It has it's own light so it kind of stays on. Which makes it feel odd when you use the toilet at night. I kind of freaked out while using the toilet. Why, you may ask? The wallpaper they chose for the bathroom, in the wrong lighting, like the lighting you get from the shower stall, makes it look like there is mold growing around the toilet. A bit off putting, but once your sleepy brain comprehends it, you calm down.
Now, service, let's get into that. Somewhat intrusive, somewhat lacking, somewhat amazing. Yeah, I know that sounds confusing, but it sums up my interactions with them. When I checked in, I had a fumble with my company card and the guy checking me in was patient and worked with me until I got it straightened out. When I forgot toothpaste of all things, I went down to the front desk to ask if there was anyplace nearby to pick some up. Instead, they handed me some complimentary toothpaste.
The intrusive part comes to the housekeeping. My room, and if I noticed correctly, all rooms didn't have 'do not disturb' signs available. That irritated me. Every day, regardless of whether you wanted housekeeping or not, someone was in your room. I felt uneasy with this as some of my items were moved around. I mean, I appreciated that the took care of me, but I didn't want you to come in every single day. Then I had packages delivered in my name to the hotel. Picking up was easy. But when I had to send it back, it was a mess. I had no tape to secure the box or affix the label. When I asked if the front desk had some to help me out, especially since I know they receive packages, I was told to Instacart it to myself. They weren't very helpful, nor swift with this. I sent it out the day before I left and it arrived back at the office over two weeks later.
Convention space, amazingly easy to use and navigate. I was here for a conference and was all over the convention space. It is quite accommodating. Big enough for a big event and intimate enough to hold banquets. They use the overall space, it is not just the rooms. They will use the tiered system they have going to accommodate all events you may have.
