I hate giving this 2 stars, but I am based on several things during my stay. My issues seem to be in line with the same issues others had.
I chose this hotel for the location - I was attending an event in the area and this was the best place to stay. The Warehouse District is one of my favorite areas, and this location is near restaurants, museums, galleries, and an easy walk to the Quarter and riverfront. There is a beautiful gallery attached to the hotel that has vibrant pieces for sale, and walking around the gallery was a nice way to kill some time waiting on people.
Arriving on Friday, staff was very friendly and check in was okay. The reservation was made by my elite status friend, and he called and added my name as I would arrive first. They did not have my name, but I was allowed to check in under his. There are seemingly no perks for Elite members at this hotel which was disappointing. The lobby area was a little awkward and could have been decorated for advertising itself as artful with a NOLA vibe.
The room itself was nothing spectacular, actually smaller than most out there. The furniture was a bit outdated, and my finger got caught on the handle of the dresser and caused a bruise, so be careful. The TV is huge and there is a mini fridge and some decent storage space. The AC was set to the lowest it could go when i entered, and it struggled a lot. The room was usually a nice temp, but the AC was loud and turned on and off several times in short spurts which was not welcome at night. The bathroom lighting is absolutely horrible - yellowish lights that don't do anyone any favors. They provided a vanity mirror with a brighter light, but it's small and isn't helpful when trying to make sure your makeup looks right. There is no venting fan (at least not in this room) and the bathroom door defaults to staying shut so if you don't prop it up, you have a steam room going after your shower. There's also a strangely placed ledge over the sink - I get having a ledge, but one that is placed like this one over the sink so you have to be careful if you lean down is a but of a hazard.
I ventured out for the day on Saturday, and I was not sure if housekeeping was going to come as it said they will clean twice a week. I really wasn't worried about it, but there were no "Do Not Disturb" signs to keep them out. When i came back that evening, it was nice to see the clean room, but as I discovered through the evening, there were a few issues. First, there is what i HOPE was a red wine stain on the bedspread right by the pillow - you couldn't miss this stain, it's not like it could have been an oversight. I did not see it until going to bed, so i flipped the comforter around so as not to have someone's possible blood in my face. I always was very unpleasantly surprised to find out that one-time used toiletries had been removed from the shower and no replacements were left. I hadn't noticed it at first other than the hand soap had been removed and a new one was left by the tub, but I didn't think to look for the shampoo and conditioner that had been in the shower before trying to take one the next day. I usually have my own, but was S outta luck Sunday morning and tried to make do with my face wash.
Another reason I chose this hotel was the rooftop pool. That was not too big a disappointment. I enjoyed some time there Saturday evening and Sunday morning. My only complaints were that it seems to be the place for recreational smoking. Saturday was not too bad and people kept their pot on the designated smoking area, but after about an hour of peace and quiet Sunday morning, a large group starting arriving and within 5 minutes, the whole place smelled like weed. A large group of ladies also took over the pool for water yoga, so my time was obviously over for the morning (this was likely a private group, but the pool isn't large enough for that plus other guests who wanted to enjoy the facilities as well.) By then, i was not upset leaving as the smell was overtaking my at this point, and it was no longer an enjoyable experience. I'm no prude when it comes to all that, but there hits a point where it's just ridiculous.
Valet was a good experience - way too pricey, and I found out the lots nearby end up being about $10 cheaper/ night. I didn't need my car all weekend, so I should have just stored it for the weekend and not worried about having it at the hotel. When you need to use your car a lot, valet makes sense, this was not the case. Now that i know where the other lot is, if I return, I'll use the other lot. My car appeared to be in good shape, and staff was super friendly and engaging.
Based on this particular weekend, the whole thing could have been better. I'm not saying I won't stay again because given the location and overall price compared to other places, it was good. (And I refuse to stay in the Quarter so this was a nice alternative.)
The hotel should work on housekeeping for sure.
