Renaissance Providence Downtown Hotel

This was my first time visiting Rhode Island, and I truly had a wonderful first impression thanks to Jillian at the front desk. From the moment I checked in this morning, she was exceptionally professional, warm, and welcoming. What stood out most was not only her kindness, but her genuine attentiveness. She carefully listened to every guest’s requests and did her very best to accommodate each one with patience and sincerity. Her supportive attitude and calm presence made the check-in process smooth and pleasant. It is clear that she takes great pride in her work and cares deeply about providing excellent service. Because of her, my first experience here in Rhode Island began on such a positive note. I sincerely hope the hotel recognizes her outstanding professionalism and dedication.

A suitable hotel in the downtown area. It was a pretty standard hotel room, clean with basic furnishings. Our biggest issue was that parking is paid valet only ($45 overnight), or you have to self park in the mall garage ($25 overnight). The cleaning service also came surprising early in the morning at 9am. Overall a nice stay, but nothing special for the price.

Great and beautiful hotel. Capital view is beyond amazing. The Marriott Club was so ehhhh. 5:30 pm - cheese and fruit that’s it. Soda and coffee and water. Disappointing at best. Service in the club also not great but Bill at the front desk is Amazing.

We decided to stay at this hotel on a whim after traveling much of the day. They were able to accommodate an early check in as well. We requested a room with a Capitol view and we got such a wonderful room with the view. The in house restaurant was also great. We were there on Christmas day and the staff that worked were top notch. There is an awesome mall right down the block too that has plenty of shops and a movie theater. After we left, my Wife and I couldn't stop talking about how great our stay here was. Thank you for the Christmas memories!

Very comfortable living area. Wish there was more plugs but loved the coziness. Trash barrel was rather small so filled up after a bottle of water or two. Bed was freshly made and ac/heat worked amazing.

We recently stayed in this hotel for a weekend getaway for a friend's birthday. It was somewhat of a last minute choice but we had never been to the area before. I have stayed at hotels in larger cities like Chicago and New York and I must say that this hotel for the price point was a sad disappointment.|If you are a fan of architecture then you might be happy to stay here because it was a former Temple. But for me that was one of a few highlights of my stay there.|The room that we had was very large but it was sparsely decorated and the furniture layout was very strange. The windows were blacked out so you could not see outside. The bathroom was so dark that my wife could not see to put on makeup. It was as if they took a large room and threw in a bed, a chair, and they table and didn't care where they went.|The location was in downtown next to the capital building which was great for seeing that part of the city. There is a restaurant that is adjoining to the hotel but the service there is hit and miss. The breakfast service from our first day was somewhat disappointing because the server seem to be having a very bad day considering her attitude. Luckily our breakfast on our final day found us with a much happier server.|Lastly to the price point of this room, I have stayed in larger rooms in Chicago, New York, and Disney World on a concierge floor for less money. The value of this hotel is just not there for the price point. Perhaps a better solution would be to look elsewhere for the money.

This hotel has gone downhill, especially when it comes to cleanliness. It used to be much better. We’re Gold Members, and yet they constantly give us the worst rooms — blocked views, undesirable locations, and never a single upgrade unless we complain. It’s honestly ridiculous. What’s the point of being a loyal member if they treat you like you don’t matter? The service has definitely declined, and it shows. We expect better, especially with our status, and this property really needs to improve how it handles loyal guests.

This was a beautiful building and many of the common areas, like the fitness facility and common spaces, are lovely, but it didn't feel up to Marriott Renaissance standards. For starters, the entire place is oppressively dark. The windows, at least in our room, did not open and were frosted, so what (very) little natural light came through was muted. The wallpapered walls of the bathroom were all disturbingly stained. A lot of the room itself was scuffed and marked up, likely just from furniture moving around but, again, it didn't live up to Renaissance standards, in my experience. The room was cavernous but empty, with little surface area outside the floor itself if you wanted to spread out. Lastly, staffers on the seventh floor were smoking marijuana every morning in the service area. While it was behind closed doors, that smell carries. It's 2026: There are edibles for that stuff and no reason to be smoking it, let along every morning during my stay. Great location in downtown, the desk staff were lovely, and the on-site restaurant was excellent, but I wouldn't go back expecting Renaissance quality.

This is one of my favorite kinds of hotel. They've taken what is clearly a historic, awesome old building and they've converted and updated into a comfortable, modern place to stay. A renaissance, indeed. They have the important things down: the bed is comfortable, the shower pressure is good, the towels are soft, the products are solid. The fitness center is pretty good. Overall, it was clean, and spacious, and the people I dealt with were friendly and helpful. There are a few oddities, like the fact that the closet has another door that opens into the bathroom and the Trump rally happening a block away (not affiliated with the hotel), but those are overshadowed by an amazing view of the Capitol building (through some pillars), and an excellent location a block or two from the train station. That alone means I'll be back next time I'm in town.

A gorgeous, historic, and classy mason building converted into a hotel. It was built in 1927 but construction was put on hold due to the Wall Street Crash and start of the World War II. The building was eventually fixed and opened in 2007 as a hotel. The Greek Revival architecture was grand and magnificent; right next door, a wonderous view of the Rhode Island State House. There was only valet parking available, which was $40 a night. The lobby was spacious and the restaurant, The Public Kitchen and Bar is attached to it. The Veterans Memorial Auditorium is connected to the hote also; events such as comedy shows takes place there. There's a fitness/business center and 10,000 sq. ft. meeting space. We stayed on the 8th floor. The room was spacious and clean; we had slightly obstructed views of the state house, we still saw a bit of the landmark. There was a balcony with large railings outside of our window, but it's not accessible. It had a flat screen TV, mini fridge, and coffee machine. The bed was comfy and the pillows were down feather so it was too flat for my liking. There was a laundry bag for our dirty clothes. The bathroom was spacious with plenty of counter space. There was a hand towel rack and plenty of towels; this may mean nothing to most people, but the little details does matter! The first night was nice and quiet but the second night, the people next door were partying from 2:30 am to 4:00 am (loud and rude). I get you're having fun but no need to be screaming the entire time; thankfully my kids stayed asleep during that timeframe. The hotel was in a central location and we were able to walk everywhere; Providence Place Mall, Thayer St., North and South Main St., the Pedestrian Bridge, and Wickenden St. to name a few. Overall, we had a good experience at the hotel and would definitely stay there again! Also, I was afraid of ghostly vibes since this place is historic, I didn't get any creepy vibes at all.

I stayed here for 5 nights in room 738 around the corner of the lounge. The room and bathdoom were clean, spacious, and comfortable. Beautiful hotel located in downtown Providence so I was able to walk around and explore the area. Hotel manager was very friendly at checkin, staff in the lounge not so much. I didn't feel too comfortable being there too long; I mostly grab and go some snacks and beverages. I usually skipped the breakfast at the lounge but Wednesday was a special treat. They setup an omelette station so I was able to have a decent breakfast. The best breakfast was at the hotel Kitchen and bar. The Egg Benedict and potato was so delicious. The only thing I didn't like was the valet parking because I'm not comfortable having a stranger drive the rental that's not authorized on the rental agreement.

Very nice modern hotel. The people were so friendly and the location is very convenient. Lots of shopping and food nearby. Rooms were stylish and modern and very comfortable.

Beautiful hotel in the heart of Providence. My only issue, you must valet your car during your stay. I'm not a fan of anyone driving my car. If you don't know how to drive a Tesla, practicing on my car is no bueno. Other than that, the hotel is beautiful. From the elegant lobby to the freshly updated rooms, everything during my stay was top notch. Funny story, In the elevator I saw a few nerds hosting a political party for Gov Dan McKee. I crashed the party, had the bartender pour me a Makers neat and took a selfie with the mayor (?) and said four more years! The shower had hot water, comfy bed and it's in a nice part of town. 5 stars alone because I have a story that makes me chuckle

Didn't stay here, but I was here for the bar and Alex makes wonderful cocktails. Great cosmopolitan and Long Island ice teas. Nice guy too.

Fabulous hotel downtown. It was a perfect location right across from the Amtrak station. Providence Place Mall was right down the street with lots of places to eat there. The room was ready super early, which was a plus. There was fruit infused water or coffee in the lobby everyday. The bed was super comfy and the bathroom was lovely! The bathroom had marble floors which were pretty cold so bring your socks or slippers. The TV had many cable offerings and the Wi-Fi was quick. I had a beautiful view of the state capitol from room 325. I would 100% stay here again and would recommend it!

Valet parking is a must and the guys are wonderful! Hotel was nice but they never meet the request for connecting rooms despite the fact that we did what they asked and called the morning of check in and were reassured we were getting connecting rooms. Good to have room service and a restaurant that's open till late.

What an amazing stay! We visited from New Hampshire to celebrate my son's 21st birthday in March. Beautiful hotel in a great part of town. We received a complimentary upgrade and were absolutely blown away by the room. Thank you Mia for making my son's birthday so memorable!

Our toilet got clogged and flooded our bathroom. I called service before 7 AM to let them know, and they told me they would send housekeeping. After more than 1 hour of waiting, I called them to get an ETA on housekeeping only to have them tell me housekeeping doesn't arrive until 9 AM. It would have been great to know when I originally called so that my fiancé and I could have gone back to sleep instead of waiting impatiently, fearing to fall back asleep. I am literally waiting to use the restroom while staff figures out if maintenance can help since housekeeping isn't here. What a disaster! For all the positives of the hotel, I do not recommend this place, nor will my fiancé and I ever come back here.

I stayed in the king bedroom with views of the capital building. The bed was comfortable and very luxurious. I found the room to be spacious and the bathroom was also quite nice. I didn't like that you had to use their valet or pay per hour for street parking ($32 for over night per day). The gym was large and had plenty of machines, though I wish there was a pool! Their restaurant is only open for certain hours which sucked but plenty of food in the area. I also liked that they had fruit water in the lobby which was refreshing because it was so hot the days I was in Rhode Island. Overall, a decent stay and all of the staff was friendly.

One of the nicest hotels in Providence (well, only stayed in this one, but seems the nicest from what I can see of the others). Located walking distance of downtown Providence and the mall, the Renaissance is located just north of downtown next to the state house. Parking is decently expensive (valet primarily) so plan for that if you're driving a car. However, valets were always quick and efficient so that's a plus. The hotel doesn't have much a lobby and seating area, but does look historic (and well updated). Also, means there's a bunch of walls instead of a wide open space. Check-in was efficient, staff was friendly, and elevators get you to your quickly enough (no one likes slow or broken elevators). Rooms themselves are decent sized, bed is very comfortable and luxurious. Unfortunately the views aren't always great (small windows). Bathroom is adequate size, and wifi didn't have any issues. Recommended stay.

Hotel is conveniently located in downtown Providence. Room is nice. Front desk staff was nice. Valet/doormen could've been friendlier. I've stayed here 3x over the years so definitely a reliable hotel at a decent price.

A great location in downtown Providence. The hotel is actually a very old, beautiful building that is perfectly modernized. Blocks from the Amtrak station, as well as the Dunkin' Donuts Center, and a short Uber to Federal Hill or PC. Staff is great. Rooms well appointed. Location tremendous.

The nicer marriott property located downtown. The space looks beautiful and the rooms i've gotten both time were nice. One was a suite with a nice view of the RI state house. They have a lounge, but its closed on weekends which seems to be the norm at some marriott properties. Parking is valet and they say theres self-parking, but not clear how that works unless you ask. Not a big deal for short stay, but if you are staying a few nights, take that into consideration for your budget, its $32 a day. Staff is friendly and rooms are clean and spacious. If you find a good rate for this one, i would pick it over the other nearby marriott properties!

We stayed at the this hotel. We where told it's business hotel and they did not accommodate for families. We where here for the American Dance Awards and would be gone all day only to come back to our room that had not been cleaned of beds made. I am rather disappointed at the service. However Robert was very helpful.

This is our 4th stay at Renaissance in the past year. Best stay yet - in part because the City (and hotel) were more open. You can't beat the location - downtown, the Mall, close to freeways, lots of restaurants and just a 10 min walk to College Hill. This time we spent just a bit more for a Suite with great Capitol view! Great value! What really keeps us coming back to this hotel though is the staff. From the front desk to the restaurant and bar staff to housekeeping and valet, these folks rock and are very customer focused.

I came here for one night to see a standup comic that was doing a show right next door with one of my friends. We got to the hotel around 4pm and parked our car with the valet. There is only valet parking and no lot for the hotel, but the nearby lots are almost the same price anyway. The room was cute, smelled nice and was clean. It was a little small but did the trick for the one night stay. The check in process was easy and check out you were able to walk right out the door. The valet also had the car ready very quickly which was great. It is a great spot and near a lot of things downtown. Overall I'd recommend staying here while in the area.

When I was in my early 20s, I used to think that the Holiday Inn was the greatest hotel I could stay in. After some years went by and I had a bit more cash to burn, I invested in the Marriott rewards program. Next thing I knew, I could search for places to stay at a reduced government rate (ya know....so that I wouldn't go COMPLETELY broke). And that's how I came across this place. While not every Marriott establishment is created equal (trust me, I've stayed at some pretty bad ones), Renaissance in Providence shows you how other Marriotts should do it. From an on-ground restaurant, to stellar room service, to an immaculate view comparable to nothing short of Caesar's palace...this place is firing on pretty much all cylinders. But, as with all things, they aren't without their flaws (though I promise you, they are minor). The room: clean, immaculate, stellar, and comfy. Those are the words I'd use to describe it. While it was bizarre there was no microwave in sight, I didn't mind that much since I'm not normally a fan of holding onto too many leftovers whilst on vacation. The point of a vacation when it comes to eating...is to sample as many of the local restaurants as possible. And on my vacations, I'd rather eat fresh than two day old leftovers. The bathroom: HUGE! I mean...big enough to get your freak on in! One odd thing I saw was how the closet has a second door that opens directly into the bathroom. And there were no locks on either side. I guess they just assumed this was a couple's suite (granted, I requested two queen size beds). Room service: this was honestly the first time I've ever had the opportunity to order food to have delivered directly to my door. Not only was the service extremely easy to order from, but they are fast as hell, too! I adored the presentation of everything on the tray and seriously felt as if I was treated like royalty. I felt as if I should have answered the door in a fine robe or something. Oh, and the food was exquisite, too. Check-in/check-out: I mean, it DID surprise me a bit that despite checking in via the app, I still needed to come in to claim my very plastic magnetic key and not get a digital one via mobile. I also had to check out the same way. At least they don't automatically hand you a bill print out unless you ask for one. I'd rather have mine emailed to me and not waste the paper; which they kindly did. Valet: Okay. Let me ask you guys an honest question. Whenever you hand over the keys of your car to the valet, you expect them to literally be able to drive anything, yes? Okay. So..riddle me this, Batman: how in the ever loving f*ck is it possible a company hires a valet who....CAN'T *clap* DRIVE *clap* STICK *clap*?! Yeah. That really happened. I honestly thought I was being punked when the dude walked out to the car (which was parked a mere 100 feet from the entrance for some reason, but whatevs), attempted to start it, but then did the walk of shame back towards the entrance of the hotel after only 2 minutes of inspecting the vehicle. After he sheepishly admitted to us that he never learned how to drive a stick and I was half tempted to revoke his man-card right there on the spot, we ended up retrieving our own car from the parking lot....only to find the key left in the "ON" position. He....he couldn't even START the car, you guys. I...I've never seen that happen before! To his defense, the guy looked like he was about 20 and on the verge of losing his virginity. Naturally, names have been omitted to protect the emasculated. I should note that while you COULD go sans valet, I wouldn't really recommend it. Given the location, your wallet might hate you for paying to park on the street for 'x' amount of hours instead. BTW, the aforementioned diatribe is by no means a slight against this hotel establishment, nor its employees. It was just a bit ironic. Still, I had to share the story that had my friends and I laughing for five straight days now. Vehicular faux pas aside, this hotel was as close to perfect as a place can get. I'm giving Renaissance Providence Downtown 5 huge ass bathrooms worthy of consummating in out of 5.

Such a beautiful hotel! I had a great stay at the Renaissance Providence, I booked the hotel for Romantic night and it was wonderful. The concierge was very professional and helpful. I had some car issues and the valet was so helpful, assisting me with my car in extremely cold weather. The bed was very comfortable, bathroom was large and clean and the view was incredible!

A beautiful hotel right in the thick of downtown Providence. The valet parking was effortless and made me feel welcome from the moment I arrived. I enjoyed my stay here. I was able to walk to some restaurants even though it was very cold outside therefore the location is fabulous. The rooms beautiful and very tastefully decorated. The staff goes out of their way to make you feel welcome. I would stay here again.

The hotel itself is quite nice and offers wonderful views. However, their subcontractor for parking leaves much to be desired as demonstrated by our experience and other's comments. I regret that this is negative, but lacking even acknowledgement to my correspondence (this was sent following our March stay), this is an open letter to Mr Brian Haley, Laz Parking. I do not expect a reply at this point, but hope that it will motivate the hotel to focus on this lacking area. Dear Mr Haley - *Yes, it is when someone's actions are creating unnecessary delay and risk to personal safety and property.* That's what I wanted to say. A S, a valet at the Renaissance Providence had just asked me 'Do you always talk like that when you enter a business?' We'd pulled up and saw another valet pulling an SUV out. I'd planned to pull in to allow vehicles behind me to pass. The valet pulled back in, then pulled out, then back, then seemingly picked a space and decided to move again. This was all as patrons left the hotel feet away and had to change their path. The situation was both frustrating and unsafe. My wife had already exclaimed 'oh my god' in response. Prior to my comment, I'd rolled down the window and, while watching the other valet, stated, 'what a fucking idiot' to my wife. Mr S overheard, prompting his question, which was asked near whisper after I got out. He'd later declare that it was very professional as he didn't raise his voice. Instead of giving the direct answer above, I was now confronted with concerns over how our rental car would be treated during our stay and my lack of desire to engage with a stranger about protocol matters rather than the safety one or the business at hand. I asked to escalate and Ms N I came over. She'd been leaving work. There was a prolonged conversation in the drive where we discussed alternative parking and the prior events. Feeling I had little choice, I even asked Mr S to bring the original valet over. He didn't know what was going on, so I told him, apologized and explained why I stood by my impression. Mr S was visibly upset that I'd included justification; the original valet denied anything like that had occurred until my wife stepped in. Ultimately we left the car and Ms I comped part of our stay as consideration. I was going to let this be, however, on Saturday evening we were leaving the hotel in strong winds and rain. I noted a tagged car with the moonroof tilted open. I informed the valet behind the desk. The reply? 'The owner drove it in like that.' What? It might have been different if he'd said our policy is to not operate the moonroof, but to imply that the owner, who likely parked when the weather was better, should be subject to a wet interior because they dropped it off like that? Wow. The net impression was one of an unsafe, unprofessional and uncaring business. And while the valet industry has a bad reputation as a whole the totality was worth mentioning to you.

Visited Providence in early Oct '23 for an overnight stay. Traveling with my teenage son and friend. Booked 2 rooms about a month before our trip to Providence RI. Called the hotel 2 weeks before our stay to ask that our rooms be on the same floor. Said they would put a note in the system for the request. Called again about a week before our stay. Central reservation said that the front desk would take care of it. When we got there they said they could not accommodate. Pretty disappointing given how much advance notice I gave them. The next morning went for a walk and it was raining. Asked the front desk for an umbrella. They had none. Normally wouldn't complain about this but after paying $500 a room per night you would expect better customer service.

just stayed and had the worse experience ever. hair all over the room and checked in our room and the AC didn't work. then we moved rooms and the TV didn't work. when we checked out the MOD apologized and thats it. his name was John. never recommend this hotel. valet was amazing

Stayed here last night. Will never return. Most overpriced hotel in Providence. Before even arriving they had already screwed up our reservation and given out my wife's personal information to another guest with a similar name. Even after my wife spent hours on the phone fixing their screw up they still took us a horrible room with a view of a wall. The room was also dirty upon arrival. Crumbs on the desk and food behind the lamps. Gross. You'd think for that money they'd care of you better after screwing up so badly. No class. Stay at the Omni if you want a nice hotel downtown.

If I could give them 0 stars I would. The hotel itself is nice don't get me wrong, but John at the front desk was the rudest person I have ever met. My father was looking at the screen because he saw he spelt our last name wrong and John wanted to give him an attitude about my dad simply just looking at his screen. He could have asked nicely to stop but he didn't. Then he gave us the wrong room number and key so when we went to "our room" we were able to open it and we disturbed another couple trying to sleep. When we went back down to the main office to get the right room with the right key he wanted to try and blame it on us. John should be fired he was extremely unprofessional for a nice business such as this.

As a Lifetime Platinum Elite member of the Marriott Rewards program, I have stayed at the whole gamut of properties in the Marriott franchise. I cannot recall a more dissatisfying experience in recent years!! What a series of missteps everyday by staff.....SO, buyer beware of this franchised operation!! I booked my three night stay with Steve in the sales department, a little more than two months beforehand. Boy, was I sold a bill of goods!! He told me he would honor my request to be on the Club Floor, since I would have access to the Lounge due to my Platinum Elite status. He additionally offered to place me in a "special" room, though my reservation was for a "standard" king. Since I alerted the hotel on day of arrival through the mobile app of my expected arrival time, and then circumstances caused me to arrive later, I telephoned the front desk to alert them of my delayed arrival, so that they would "save the special room" that I thought had been blocked for me. However, Dan at the front desk advised on the phone that there weren't any notes on my reservation, though he promised to place me on the Club Floor. Upon arrival at 9pm, not only were there no rooms for me on the Club 7th Floor, I was assigned a room on the 9th floor. I asked for the manager on duty, and Seda, Reception Supervisor came to the rescue, offering me a choice of two upgrades...a "Deluxe" room on the Club 7th floor overlooking the Capitol, or a two room "Junior Suite" on the 6th floor with a private staircase to the Club Lounge. I opted for the larger room for my working three day visit. Incidentally, the reception clerk who initially received me advised me that the Club lounge closed for breakfast at 11am. However, I realized at 8:50 the next morning that in fact the "hot" breakfast ends at 9am, while the "continental" cold breakfast ends at 10am. The clerk was additionally misinformed, as the lounge is 24/7, though not staffed all the time. Four unsatisfactory experiences with the club lounge at breakfast...1. Monday morning the floor leading to the private staircase was locked. When I questioned Rob, the attendant on duty, he expressed surprise, stating that it is not supposed to be locked, and commented that he'll have to start checking to make sure it's unlocked in the future. 2. The breakfast was meager.... I've had a more robust and diverse offering of breakfast items at Fairfield Inns!! 3. The scrambled eggs were hard as a rock, having sat in the warming tray for at least an hour. 4. Dirty tables and dishes piled up by the coffee service, though hardly anyone was in the room at that late hour. However, the evening service was much improved, as Adam had a beautifully presented array of cheeses, crackers, vegetables and crudites, and hot items. The next morning I went up to the Club Lounge for breakfast, and what do you know, the door was locked again!!! I took the elevator back up to 7 again, and lo and behold, there was a sign on the door advising that the Lounge was closed for a staff meeting!!! Apparently, staff has priority over guests in Club Lounge, and not notifying hotel guests are further examples of the thoughtlessness management exhibits. I immediately went down to the front desk and inquired about my breakfast. The clerk apologized about the non-notification, and gave me a coupon to take down to the restaurant for a "limited menu" breakfast. Fyi, the restaurant and adjoining bar is managed by an outside 3rd party (as is the valet parking, among other services provided in the hotel). At this point I was getting a little irritated with the hotel. I telephone the front desk and as Kim, the Area General Manager was unavailable, I asked for the Manager on Duty. I spoke with Keith, the Front Office Mgr, who volunteered that he also has supervision over the Club Lounge. Great I thought! My comments would be appreciated, acted on, and passed on to the General Manager. My expectation that action would result was obviously misplaced, as I experienced the exact set of circumstances the next morning in the Club Lounge....1. Door on 6th floor locked, 2. Hard, overdone scrambled eggs, 3. Dirty dishes (despite two attendants being present in the Lounge). Keith did apologize for not notifying the guests beforehand about the Lounge being closed, and said he would send an email to the Sales Dept about my reservation, and would insure that his front desk staff knew the Club Lounge hours in the future. He thanked me for advising him of the positive performance of Saed his front office supervisor, and Adam, the evening attendant in the Lounge. And, let me mention the poor attitude and performance of one of the 3rd party valet attendants....After bringing my car up front, normally the valet, or one his colleagues standing nearby with nothing to do would open and close the door for my wife, as passenger, and then attend to me as driver. Not here....he just stood at the driver door awaiting his tip. This completes my review.

Great location and hotel, clean, great complimentary bathroom soap etc... disappointed in free gold upgrades. I travelled with work colleagues and they were silver and got upgraded to better rooms than I did. Valet was great! Wasn't told where concierge was although I had access. Would stay again in the hope that 2nd experience better than 1st for gold members

This property is in a great location in Providence. You can walk to the mall and downtown area with no problem. It is across the street from the beautiful RI State House. The valets were friendly and efficient upon arrival and departure. It's valet parking only and the cost was $30.00 per day. Ashmit at the front desk was welcoming and recognized my husband's Platinum status which is always appreciated but not always done at all properties. He upgraded us to a beautiful room without our having to ask. The room was spotless and beautiful. Nick in the Club Lounge keeps everything super clean and nice. The gym was clean and had great equipment. Everyone at this property greeted us when we were coming and going. We will definitely return to this property.

Wowza!!! It's been awhile since I stayed here, but let me share with you the renovations are wonderful! Fresh paint, new carpet, completely updated rooms, nice beds and linens, good sized bathrooms, and flat screen tv's. The concierge floor has not been updated yet, but still offers guests a variety of food and drink options. The gym is great and I should probably take advantage of it a little more? The service is impeccable! The manager working was so nice and since the hotel was full and we checked in late we were upgraded to the presidential suite... Which I can tell you is 2250 square feet and serious rock star status! Thank you for the fantastic treatment! There is honestly not a better hotel in the Providence area!

Wow....The Renaissance has really stepped up their game! I gave The Renaissance 5 stars in my previous review because it truly is the best hotel in the Providence area. I arrived today and was told that the hotel is going through a few renovations. Um ok I thought....it didn't take too long to figure it out. Once I was off the elevator I could see the fresh paint and new carpet. It just smells fresh and clean. I opened the door to my room and yes updates to the rooms too! Fresh new carpet, wall art, lamps, furniture, and a brand new flatscreen television. Most importantly new beds with updated very soft bedding! If there was any doubt of where to stay in Providence the renovations just removed it. Very well done!!!

For the amount of money I paid and the starts this place has our experience was awful. Not only was there an eyelash extension on our facecloth but our shower water was cold. The front desk was EXTREMELY unhelpful nor did they care about anything we needed. I'm so sick of paying a lot of money for hotels that are soooo unaccommodating. Don't stay here. You're better off paying for the Marriott courtyard or the Omni. Not worth staying here ever!!!

The one star is the gorgeous location and view from our room, which also is beautiful. The zeros are for the odd situation that occurred and hotels refusal to take care of. Ok. Here goes....... Left our room on a Saturday morning around 10:30 am. Came back after a day of walking , lunching and shopping around the city. Walked into our room a little before 6 pm. It reeked as if the bathroom, which is right off the front entrances was just used. It literally smelled like something to the likes of someone eating a full blown meal of beans and hearty vegetables. Called the front desk and told them the room smelled awful, could they send someone up to figure out if it was a pipe and/or sewage issue or someone in fact "used" our bathroom while we were out. Was told they would come right up. Never did. Called front desk twice. No one answered. Finally after about an hour the smell disappeared. Tells me not a pipe or sewage issue. Called again this morning to discuss and I was told by the front desk that no one was there to discuss and if I had a problem, I could email the manager. I said that's not acceptable. I want to speak with someone. Can you call this manager and give them MY cell. Please. I was told "fine, what's your number?" Click Look, I get it that hotels and businesses are short staffed. Then don't open it don't charge $500 a night for low budget motel service.

Nice hotel in historic building right across the street from the Capitol. Not a huge hotel but very friendly and easy to get around The rooms were nicely appointed and bright. The gym was fine and the restaurant was pretty good although providence has a ton of boutique restaurants for the foodies in your circle.

Great location. Clean. Nice view. Nice decor. Terrible restaurant breakfast service. Food runs out and not replenished right away. Unless you are ordering a la carte, avoid the buffet at all times.

if I could give zero stars I would. Do not stay at the Renaissance hotel in providence. When I booked I was told the payment included all fees and holds. I was like ok cool and saved almost 1k. I get to the hotel everything's fine the full amounts pending. This morning I go to check out and they say "Ohh your card got declined. only 756.00 got taken out." I was like "What? You guys had the full payment was pending when I checked in." they said "Well the full amount needs to be paid now." I told them that they took the full amount out and I have less than $100.00, I planned my vacation down. I started having an anxiety attack when they pretty much nearly threatened to call the cops on me. After calming down and getting myself to stop shaking I was finally able to get it settled. I have traveled all over the country and not once has this happened to me. I always plan my trips and never have any money problems

Very nice, elegant, and respectable hotel in a great location in the area. I am here for my last of 2 nights here while on business and have had a good experience so far. It's on the upscale level, as far as service and common area finishes. My room wasn't too big, more long and narrow, but I have no complaints...just me in the room, no spouse or kids. My 4th floor room overlooks the side of the state capital. I used the fitness room on the 7th floor and it was bigger than most normal fitness rooms in a hotel. Lots of treadmills. The area itself is great - lots of park areas, restaurants, right off the river/canal. So glad I'm able to stay here and expense the cost to my company!

So this lovely little jewel was an old Masonic Temple. The original floor plan is on display on the hotel floors. There is a cool restaurant connected called Public for some eats, or you can walk right down the hill to the Providence Mall for an array of food options. It was a great solo trip hotel pick. The staff was friendly and offered some great "to do" options for my solo venture. The room was very clean, modern, good eye appeal!!! Bed was comfy (not like the Heavenly Bed W comfy but nice still). Nice ruler decor on the wall, huge television, coffee bar, and fun little hideaway entrance to the restroom. Love the hotel. Can see myself coming back here!

Fabulous! Immaculate. Relatively new so it's all still fresh. Great lounge open til 1:00 am on wkends. Very quiet. Great views. Friendly, courteous, obliging service. Valet parking. WiFi, flat screen tv,iPhone ports, sundries, in room coffee/tea, Aveda bath products. Nicely appointed. Lush linens. Marble bathrooms. Will definitely stay again.

My husband and I are loyal Marriott guests. We always stay with Marriott when we travel and we're Marriott Vacation Club owners, too. We have stayed at many Marriotts around the globe, but we REALLY love this location. The building is gorgeous, the decor is lovely, and the service is always outstanding. I know that many people complain about the $28.00/per day valet service, but it is so worth it. The valet attendants are all super nice and take great care of our vehicles. Providence can be pretty difficult to park in so we like knowing that we can pull up to the door and have our car taken care of for us. Well worth the money, in our opinion. We really love the club lounge. Robert is one of the club lounge attendants and he has been there for many years. He is such a nice guy and is always up for a friendly chat. The club lounge serves a nice hot breakfast in the morning so we rarely need to pay to eat breakfast while we stay there. They also serve appetizers, drinks, and desserts in the evening hours. They've made some cosmetic upgrades to the hotel since the last time we were there and they have a new restaurant and bar downstairs. All of the improvements made an already great looking place even more luxurious and inviting. We stayed in a corner room on the 5th floor during this last visit and the views were awesome! We were right in front of the capital building so we had their capital lights at night and the view of the gorgeous landscaping and changes leaves on the trees (it was Oct and foliage was coming into full swing) during the day was so lovely. Lastly, the location is perfect for us. We have friends and family in CT, RI, and MA so this location is central to everyone. I also love that it's right off the highway, is steps away from Providence Place Mall, and just a few blocks from Federal Hill. Location, Location, Location! Until we meet again, Renaissance....

A beautiful, clean, and historic hotel. What makes it better is an excellent location across the street from the Rhode Island State House, it is housed in an old Masonic Temple, clean and updated modern decor, and only minutes walk from the heart of down eats and the Water Fire. Have and will stay here again.

Excellent customer service, from the greeting to the check in to the staff. My place to go when in town! With great pleasure I highlight Yvonne at the front desk who made the experience especially welcoming, William with great suggestions for places to go and directions and Rob in Concierge who totally accommodating. This is a beautiful building, easy to get to and get back out. The bell staff and valets are good folks too!

Clean close to the mall lots of food options everything was walking distance. Staff was great Nycola was awesome and very helpful! The room service hours were a little off how ever almost all food was delivered to the hotel

We came in for a wedding having never been to Providence. This hotel was great. The staff was friendly and the rooms are spacious and super comfortable. We didn't have kids with us and I slept like a baby on the soft pillowy beds. It is a pretty good location with a really short walk to the train and downtown and the mall are also just steps away. The bar in the basement has a great layout and seems to have solid food. My only knock on the place is the attitude of the staff in the bar, but that could be for another review. They were sassy and by no means customer first. Overall it is a rock solid hotel!

Stayed here for business recently... This hotel is more of a 3-1/2 star than a 4, but we figured we'd round up... Checking In - We used an Lyft to get from the airport to the hotel, this was our first time here, and we were here for business. Upon driving up in the Lyft, I saw 2 valets and 1 bellman standing outside chatting. The bellman didn't have his jacket buttoned and it appeared he was off duty, but he was the only one out there who could help with luggage. When we pulled up, he kept chatting with the others, even as he watched us get the 4 suitcases from the trunk of the car and never offered assistance, nor did he open the door for us to get inside the lobby. Once we got inside, it wasn't clearly evident where the front desk & check-in was, so we found someone cleaning up the lobby and asked them. We found this very odd and didn't think we were off to a very good start, especially for a Renaissance property. The lady who checked us in was abrupt, not very friendly, but polite, professional and asked/answered the appropriate comments. She acted as if we were interrupting the conversation she was having with a co-worker when we approached and she wanted to hurry and finish dealing with us so she could get back to it. Again, I was worried this stay wouldn't go well. Cleanliness - Once we got into the room, it was not only spotless, but it smelled very nice. The entire room was nice and clean and stayed that way each day we were there. The staff who takes care of the rooms does a very nice job!! Bed - The bed was comfy and afforded us a very nice sleep. Only issue though was that I-95 was right outside our window and the first night, we couldn't sleep at all, listening to the highway noise all night long. I was worried that the rest of the stay would be like this, but we did so much walking during the day that we were able to sleep until the sun came up, at least. Bathroom - The bathroom was nice and very clean. The only two issues we had were that the toilet paper roll is on a wall beside and behind you, instead of in front of you (which would have made more sense and it would have fit), this caused the person using the toilet to turn and torque their back to access the roll. The counter space on the sink is also too small to put a couple's worth of toiletries on it. But the tub worked perfectly, drained perfectly and the bathroom was very clean with puffy, comfy towels! Service - We called for service twice - Once was to ask for towels the next day, as we used all three (they REALLY need to give 4, not 3!) when we arrived and spent the day walking the town and I needed a towel the next day to take a shower before my conference. I called the night before, but no one came. I called right before needing to take a shower early the next morning and someone brought them immediately (thank you!). Location - The location was very nice! Within walking distance of EVERYTHING there is to see in Providence! If you don't mind walking (at most) ¾-mile, you can get to Brown University, College Hill, Federal Hill, Thayer St, etc... All the "popular" chain restaurants (Capital Grille, Cheesecake Factory, PF Changs, Flemings, etc) are within ¼ mile and they have tons of unique, local spots on Federal Hill and within walking distance in various directions!!! They also have a nice place in the hotel to dine and wine called Public Kitchen. Lobby - The lobby is nicely laid out and very upbeat and modern... We really liked the vibe! Overall - If/when we venture up to Providence again, I would definitely stay here! Even though we didn't get off to a good start, we really enjoyed the stay. I just would NOT allow them to give us a room where the traffic noise of a busy highway was so prevalent! The price was pretty high, for 4 nights in a basic room it was approximately $1200, which is rather high for what we felt we got. The building itself is historic-looking and very nice! Being from the DC area, we loved the architecture of the building and definitely of the area.

I recently stayed here for 3 nights while in a business trip. The hotel upholds the Marriott brand very well. The service was excellent from check in and throughout the stay. The cleanliness of the hotel and rooms is impeccable. The bar is cool with just the right sounds and ambiance. The lounge is spacious and well managed. The fitness center is typical of what you'd find in a well appointed Marriott. As for the location, it's right across from the State Capitol and not too far from restaurants and night life. I would return next time I'm in Providence.

I've stayed here a few times and if all you care about is a clean room and a comfortable bed, you'll be happy. Where the Renaissance disappoints is in the attention to detail. In my room (435) the faucets leaked, housekeeping left enough coffee for one cup in a room booked for two, and valet parking was consistently slow and confused. I'd go back but next time I think I'll try someplace else.

The front desk Manager, Liliana, should not be working in hospitality. During our stay a white skirt went missing from our room, we assumed it was the housekeeping who accidentally grabbed it thinking it was part of the bedding. We brought it to the attention of the front desk and ask that someone look for it with the laundry- Liliana was so dismissive saying it was not her problem and that I should talk to security if I though something was stolen. It was so frustrating to be treated that way after something was removed from the room. I ultimately had to sneak down to the laundry room to get in touch with the housekeeping manager - she was the one who found it and got it back to us. She was great, unfortunately the woman at the front desk was very unhelpful, unkind, and so rude. We won't be staying here again due to the attitude of this woman, Lilliana.

The view from the room was great after we asked for a different one ! The beds were probably the most comfortable we ever slept in at a Hotel! The location was awesome too! Easy to walk to restaurants and shopping. The only thing that we didn't like was the toilet was clogged up twice the evening we arrived and flooded the bathroom and there was no shampoo available ! We were told they ran out! Also the lack of compassion about the flooded bathroom wasn't really great to experience ! Not even a free breakfast offer for the inconvenience sadly ! I didn't ask for it but that's something we should have been offered at least imo! I come from a family background of owning a hotel and that would be the min that should have been done . Otherwise I can only highly recommend this hotel I would have given it 5 stars had the hotel shown more compassion about the clogged toilet
