República Hostel Cartagena

I had such a great time at República Hostel in Cartagena! The staff are super friendly and do an amazing job of organising fun activities like bar crawls, quizzes, and more, which makes it really easy to meet people. The hostel itself is beautiful and has a full-size pool. The rooms are also well air-conditioned at night, so you can get a good sleep. I’d highly recommend República to anyone visiting Cartagena!

Pros: + Pool + Location + Somewhat pretty Cons: - Staff weren’t bothered, seemed to prefer socialising with one another, wasn’t a welcoming vibe. Swung between fake niceties and a can’t be bothered attitude - My partners watch was stolen whilst at the pool (she turned her back to her belongings for two seconds in the empty pool). Staff were unconcerned and completely unhelpful. - Unclean environment, showers were disgusting. - Lots of standing water everywhere which means a lot of mosquitos. - The basic dorm is VERY cramped and made us feel claustrophobic. No room to put belongings anywhere, the “lockers” were tiny which meant rucksacks were put anywhere they could fit - no room to move in the dorm. - Kitchens were only open 10am-10pm, which means if you want breakfast at a normal time, you have to pay for the hostels breakfast which is overpriced and not worth it. - The fridge is SO small. You will have to stuff items in there and try to not let other things fall out. Buy another fridge! - The music is on very loud until 11pm despite the fact there is minimal socialising going on, instead it seems to be a party for the staff?? (Think full on bass blaring through the speakers) so don’t expect to be able to rest unless you’re a night owl. Overall, wouldn’t recommend, spend your money elsewhere.

Perfect location in the center... ,close to everything.... Very safe, no one who is not guest can't come in... Also for open room you have card... Big beds with light and charge place for phones... Inside you have big courtyard with pool and bar to relax... Breakfast is good and enough for start the day... People who work there is so kind and helpful especially girl name Yura...Good social interaction and organization ... All recommendations for visit and take accommodation if you are in Cartagena

Rooms had air con, beds had curtains, plug sockets and fans. A lot of activities on offer, great location. Clean and sociable.

Great location, and the staff are nice and helpful. The hostel setup was a different experience. Bathrooms and showers are mixed-gender, and the outdoor-style shower feels a bit like a beachside rinse, which was unique. There’s no safe box for valuables, but they can hold your passport upon request. The dorm wasn’t very clean — not sure if the linens were washed before my stay, and there was only one power outlet. Washrooms are closed in the morning, and there’s no internet connection inside the dorms.

Super clean hostel with really private rooms even in the dorms. Perfect level of social games and staff are super fun and helpful.

Nice place. Not super social in my experience but i came during low season. the bunks are the best kind but the curtains for them are basically see through. Clean bathrooms. Clean bedrooms. super cool building! there's also a local cat that hangs out around the entrance who is adorable

Great hostel, friendly staff, air conditioning in rooms and individual fans! Curtains, lights and plugs for each bunk.
