What a wonderful experience at the Residence Inn Norfolk! We stayed the week of Christmas 2024 while visiting family. We had 2 rooms reserved and both were very nice. The Staff members were polite and helpful during our stay. The facility was well kept and very clean. This will be our go to on future visits with family! Thank you to all who helped us have a wonderful trip!

The room was clean and comfortable. The location is great. We got a great rate. However, the couch couldn't even be used... as a couch. It seemed like it was missing something between the folded bed and the cushions. Nowhere else to sit really. Also, the carpet near the kitchen appeared to have been chewed by I'm guessing a dog.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here. The atmosphere feels luxurious, and it’s in the perfect location! As soon as you walk in you’re welcomed by a beautiful aroma and directly after by the wonderful staff. They were so quick and courteous getting me checked in. We walked in to a freshly cleaned room. The bed was so comfortable that I slept the best sleep I’d had in a long time. The breakfast served was delicious, my favorite was the biscuits and gravy. Very flavorful, and the biscuit was the perfect combination of crispy and fluffy. I will definitely book again when visiting again

The stay was great! All employees were friendly and knowledgeable. The room was beautiful with a great view. The pool was heated but the jacuzzi wasn't working and the bathroom sink was clogged each time it was used. Other than that I enjoyed my stay.

Pros-CHKD and Sentara Hospitals is a 2 minute drive. Tidewater CC within 5 minutes. Great location!!. Room was clean, bed was comfortable, shower was hot and parking was easy. Front desk was also friendly. Virginia Beach is 20 minutes away. Cons- room temp fluctuated more than the stock market, 1 elevator working, outside windows are paper thin, lack of cooking utensils/ pots/pans. Excellent restaurants and shopping within minutes of a walk.

Great care has been taken by the operator to keep the lobby and exterior looking terrific and hire outgoing and friendly staff but this only goes so far. The hallways and rooms are dowdy and worn with peeling wallpaper, sloppy re-painting, old, useless and dangerous bathtubs with plastic fixtures and only one operable elevator. The bland breakfast doesn't help...more ended up in the trash than in my stomach! We got a pretty good deal on a nicely laid-out L-shaped room but the air vent blew directly on me all night long. I had to turn it off because I was waking up constantly. And while I'm at it...I signed into my Netflix account to watch a series I've been keeping up with. The video quality was inferior (blurry) and it literally stopped and buffered no less than 10 times during the 1/2 hour program. If your internet router (?) cannot handle streaming services efficiently then you shouldn't be offering them...it's just useless if you continue doing so. The program was unwatchable! I cannot recommend the Residence Inn Norfolk Downtown.

Google
Dial up is faster than their WiFi . Only one elevator working the whole time I was there. In room 919 you could not access the right side of the bed. The potatoes in the breakfast bar were very good, the rest was just your standard hotel breakfast

Such a wonderful stay. We were in town due to a serious family emergency so were very stress. But all the staff here are incredibly nice hosts that go out of their way. Very grateful. Also enjoyed their hot breakfast.

Yelp
This hotel is in a sad state. Look at these pictures from the room: -runner under mattress was askew -broken frame for art in bathroom -peeling wallpaper -sliding door was off the track, other sliding door was cracked at the bottom. The track itself was filthy. -cushion for sofa bed too worn so it sinks in to where the sofa bed lays rendering it unusable for sitting. The lobby is pretty nice, but the elevator is slow. There are 2 elevators technically, but the second one is inoperable. Check-in took, I'm not exaggerating, just under 20 minutes because the front desk guy was having issues logging into the system. When I was finally able to get up to the room, guess what? The key cards weren't working so I had to go back down and wait in line behind two people. All told it took 30 minutes to get to my room from the time I arrived. The front desk staff was unsympathetic and unapologetic and didn't thank me for being an elite rewards member either. I also recommend being mindful of the parking situation. The city charges $13 for the garage overnight, but Marriott will charge you $18. You are basically paying extra to be able to get in and out privileges with this method, but don't validate if you don't plan on moving your car. They didn't inform me of this on site, I found out the next day after asking if validation would last if we stayed a couple hours past checkout, so I got charged $13 to leave anyway since it seems it wasn't true validation would last. I reached out to the hotel in the Marriott app to get my $18 back though-they got back to me quickly and that's when they informed me of why the price disparity and refunded the parking charge, so kudos to them for that at least. The only positives I have to say aside from that are that the room is good size, the AC works well, and there's a cool hardcore/punk record store across the street that opened a month ago. Other than that, I'd never stay in this hotel again. Why anyone would choose this over Hilton The Main or the Glass Light is beyond me.

Yelp
This is the worst Marriott I have stayed at. Please book elsewhere especially if you have asthma, dust allergies or just want a room you feel is cleaned. The cost of $300+ for a checkin at 8PM and checkout around 7:30AM (not even 12 hours, we were only in town for ODU's graduation) I want my money back. Unacceptable. I arrived in good health and left with my allergies flared up 100x's. My 2 year older daughter didn't sleep comfortably either and woke up with watery eyes and sneezing. Stay far away. The only reason they have two stars is because the front desk staff was polite and gave us some milk for our daughter when we checked in late and the man who delivered the pack-n-play was super friendly and didn't fuss when I asked for an extra sheet for the pack-n-play. My review does not speak negative at all of the staff. The staff were great even at checkout and breakfast. The hotel lobby and hallways are beautiful but it's a deception... the rooms, where you will spend most of your time, are the issue and awful. Breakfast was ok, they can only have one meat out at a time, during our stay it was turkey bacon. Parking is not free. It's in a parking garage across the street. If you don't require in and out access, it's $13 for 24hrs however if you do, it's $18 for 24hrs per the front desk.

Yelp
I couldn't imagine such negative reviews for a down town Residence Inn as being true. Well, the negative comments were spot on. We left shortly after check in to have a business dinner. Before we left, I'd set the room temp to its coolest setting (62). Upon return from a nice dinner, I found the room to still be very warm. I decided to place a call to the front desk, where I ended up waiting at least 30 mins for the "engineer" to arrive. A quick peak of the thermostat, he tells me "there's nothing I can do". I slept with no covers on, and sweated most of the night. Breakfast offers no options for meat. No bacon, no sausage, no bagels, no waffles. "Deedee", thanks for being there. You're very nice, but they're not setting you up for success. Only 1 elevator in service. This place falls wayyyyyy short of any expectations you might have of a down town Marriott. Corporate needs to take a close look!

Yelp
I have always stayed here when visiting VA. My last trip was a nightmare. I made a reservation, arrived to the hotel and no room. They attempted to move me to another hotel by the airport, after an 8 hour drive. There was one computer working, people were waiting and becoming aggravated. The rooms are not updated, the cost is outrageous for what they offer, Shame on them. The rooms stink and the rugs are dirty. STAY AWAY from this hotel

Yelp
I am a Platinum Marriott member and must say that this location is horrible. I requested online and in-person once there a late checkout and on the day of they hadn't processed it. When I checked in, they were playing around chatting at the desk. When I entered into my room and looked at the desk chair...it was stained. The shower head was loose and spraying on the ceiling at the connection. One of the tv remotes was missing. One of the ironing boards was missing. The next day after returning back during late checkout time, my key wouldn't work and I had to ask housekeeping. Now I'm missing...never to return!

Yelp
Double check your room before you get comfy. There was hair on our towels, red stains on the tub, this crap in the closet and I woke up with a massive bug bite on my neck. The sofa bed sheets were...stiff. Gross. COVID clean?! Psshh.. yeah right. I didn't see coffee or creamer at breakfast. Maybe I missed it. Last night the chocolate in the market was melted and the water was only semi-cold. Not a hotel I would ever consider staying at again. We had two days left and we left early. Not the relaxing vacation I was hoping for.

Yelp
BED BUGS AND SUPER LOUD LIGHT RAIL RUNS 6AM-12AM. NO MATTRESS COVER AND SHEETS DON'T FIT. This was one of the worst hotel stays I have ever had. I travel weekly for work and have never felt the need to leave a negative review, but this experience has left be absolutely irate and disappointed in how I was treated. For starters my hotel room had bed bugs, I woke up with bites all over my arms and upper thighs. (See picture on my yelp review as google doesn't let me post one). The hotel also doesn't use mattress covers, just a sheet that barely fits the bed and came off while I was sleeping. So gross to wake up sleeping directly on a bare mattress. (no wonder they have bed bugs) When I notified the manager I was not given an apology but a very annoyed "we will look into it". I get it, I'm sure a lot of people try to claim bed bugs to get a free stay but this stay is on my company card and a refund does not benefit me at all. I asked for bags to seal my belongings and it took them 30 minutes to bring to my room and when I opened the door they were thrown at me. After packing up my things I went down to the lobby to speak to the manager to check out. Again, no apology, no empathy to what had just happened. I was just told that they have to inspect the room to see if there were actually bed bugs. I was informed that they would contact me to discuss possibly covering cost of items I had to have professionally cleaned. It has now been 2 days since I checked out and no one has reached out to me. I'm a platinum elite member which means I have stayed at Marriott hotels over 50 nights this year and this is how I was treated. No apologies, no offer to make up for a terrible experience.

Yelp
Umm MARRIOTT!!!! Somebody is asleep at the wheel! Here working and have stayed here before (pre pandemic) . The space is good. The place is falling apart. The furniture is old. The tub looks insanitary and the drain was broken. The toilet had a clear broken piece. The mirror doors were not on the rail properly. And there is so much a staff can do without seemingly no quality management. I called down for toilet paper at 9:47 am yesterday, 15 min later the front desk attendant called me back and ask if I could come down and get it from the front desk because she was alone ( hmm, no housekeeping staff to facilitate those calls? At 9:47am? I'm confused. The gym, it's equipment and pool is outdated. Understandably cable can go in and out but the entire system seem to need an upgrade based on all the issues my group has brought concern to with it. I don't want to throw the staff under the bus because I believe they can only do so much, but quality of customer service is something every business that depends directly on consumer satisfaction needs to pay attention to. This place could and should be so much better!!!! P.S. Get some entertainment in the lobby for your guest.

Yelp
So I've stayed at Residence inns before and thought they were pretty decent. However. This particular Residence inn is not one that I could recommend. First off, I requested a king bed suite and was given two queen beds. Very disappointing to be given a room that did not match what was requested. Second, I get its covid and they were not cleaning rooms or turn down service right now during your stay. Not that big of a deal. However, they simply are not even cleaning the rooms between peoples stays other than to disinfect the hard surfaces. The room was dirty, carpet had red stains all over. The headboards of the queen beds were nasty and not cleaned. You could see stains and handprints all over them. Also the door to the bedroom had dried soda splashed all over it. The dressers and night stands had white streaks all over the front of them. SO gross. We couldn't be sure that the white matter wasn't semen or not. But it was disgusting. Additionally, when I went to shower, I pulled back the shower curtain and a used hand towel fell off the top of the curtain to the floor. It was clearly discolored from use. That's not acceptable at all and down right digusting. A client of a hotel should never walk into their room and feel like they need to clean their own room. Look, I get covid has made it harder to get people and train them but if you can't clean the rooms at all between visits, it's time to consider closing portions of the hotel to give your team time to clean rooms for incomindisgusting. Unless this hotel gets its act together on how to clean the rooms properly, I would not recommend anyone stay here.

Yelp
From start to finish our stay here was simply awesome. When dealing with the military things can change at a moment's notice as we learned with our planned visit for the return of my son-in-law's navy ship. We had already revised plans twice when we got word due to bad weather the ship was coming in early. We scrambled and got on the road from RI as fast as we could and got to the hotel much earlier than the standard check in time. After speaking with Denise and being understanding our circumstances she extended the courtesy of our super early check in. We grabbed a few hours of sleep and then headed off to the base to meet the ship! Breakfast area had plenty of your usual hotel bfast options: scrambled eggs, cereal, yogurts and oatmeal with all the mix ins you can imagine but they also had several other impressive selections like chocolate drizzled croissants, cheeses, Belgian waffle add on like Nutella, raspberry syrup and whipped cream (oh yes this was my treat!). Rhonda in the bfast area was amazing. On one morning the fresh fruit (which was diff every day)was almost gone and i asked if anymore would be brought out. Rhonda found us in the dining room and brought us a whole bowl of fresh pineapple! My son-in-law noticed the waffle deliciousness I made with the Nutella/rasp and wanted to do same with banana but when he went to look at the fruit basket they had been all taken. I asked Rhonda if by chance she could check to see if there was anymore in the kitchen. She came out with three apologizing for the slight brown spots and how the new delivery was coming in that day. I told her this man has been on a ship for five months not to worry and this is going to make a fantastic Banana Nutella waffle. We stayed here for a few days so my daughter and SIL could see friends in the area from whe he was stationed here previously. I got in a great workout in the gym. Plenty of treadmills and two ellipticals. Good set of free weights. As the weather was absolutely horrendous during our stay the pool area was awesome. Pool temp was not cold, felt a bit of a chill when you first get in but then it's beautiful. The whirlpool was nice and hot but more jets would be better. Towels available in both the gym and pool. After not seeing her husband for five months we got the kids down and GMa sent them off on a date night. They went down the street to a cool bar for some craft cocktails. The battleship Wisconsin could be seen from our room and there is much to do in the area with museums and these huge seesaws in a nearby park! Cannot day enough about housekeeping manager Veronica!!! This woman is a gem. We happened to come back to room when she was there changing the bed linens and she did not want to put on the set she had because there was a barely noticeable small stain. I tried to assure her that with the 2yr old toddler staying in that room it would likely not end up being the only stain but she insisted on a different set. On our last evening she knew we were heading out for dinner and when we came back to the room we found that she had pulled out the sofa bed and had it all made up for the night! I told you...a GEM!!! Parking right across the street with a pretty standard daily rate. Keep the ticket and you can enter and exit the garage as many times as you need. The day we left (with a late check...we were spoiled here!) as mom and dad loaded up the minivan I kept the kids occupied in the lobby and Lynette brought them over some ice cream she was serving to the staff as a treat for. Every person we encountered here was helpful, kind, and we really enjoyed our stay.

Yelp
Last week I had an opportunity to my old stomping grounds of Norfolk, Virginia. Trying to get as close as I could to EVMS, I decided to book a room at the Residence Inn in downtown. The hotel was about a 5 min drive (easily walkable) distance to the school and about a 15 min drive without traffic to the airport. Conveniently the light rail is nearby as well. Unfortunately, this hotel didn't really live up to the standards that I would expect for a place affiliated with Marriott. While the lobby is bright and modern, the rooms are humid and dank. Livable but just not of the quality you would expect. Not sure if this is the case with every room, but mine had a little kitchenette and refrigerator. I don't have any disabilities but I was but in a room for people who require extra amenities to help them get around, especially in the bathroom. I generally like it cold in the room but even if you're able to get the thermostat down to 60, it never felt below 70... possibly because of the humidity. I am a little concerned for those who use this room for the disability amenities. The shower leaks all over a very slippery floor. I'm trying to imagine someone who tries to transfer themself from a wheelchair to the seat in the shower. You can easily slip (as I almost did). Even if you draw the curtains, after you shower there is a puddle of water. During my stay I also experienced leakage from a vent in the ceiling that flooded the floor. Again, thinking about people who have physical disabilities. This is quite dangerous! It's a little disappointing that this place has not tried to bring their caliber up a notch. They do have a pool and a decent gym. Parking is across the street in the public parking structure and all you need to do is bring your ticket to the front desk and then that will be your way in and out of the garage as you please. They don't give any of their Bonvoy members water bottles. If you want anything, they have a little market there with snacks and $2.60 water bottles. I would just suggest you drop by the Harris Teeter nearby. Convenient location, meh stay/experience. If you had other options, I suggest you explore those.

Jeanette R.

Yelp
The hotel is in a nice location and convenient to several different places. However - improvements are needed in customer service at the front desk and properly explaining the parking. Customer service - the staff are required to wear nametags - not all of the staff wear nametags..so note their names if you want to compliment or complain. Didn't try the breakfast. Rooms were nice. Staff at front desk should be asked to speak clearly - it can be noisey when the doors are opening and closing but when a guests ask you to repeat several times - its normally not a good thing. As for the parking - The parking is not owned by the hotel and you must park across the street. You must first park your car - and then go to the front desk to have them scan the paper ticket issued by the parking garage. In the event you experience issues at the parking garage (such as being charged the $18 by the hotel and then also being asked to pay at the garage -- press the blue button on the intercom and tell the parking garage staff that you are a guest of the hotel). If the parking process had been properly explained - I would not have had to call the hotel about a $6 credit. Too much.

Yelp
I went in 2017 so I hope the service is better now. I saw blood stain on my pillow case. I put it on the floor and the cleaner just put it back up right on the bed.

Yelp
We were greeted in such a kind and welcoming way by the Front Desk Clerk -Shay, She was very informative and helpful throughout out stay. I requested more towels and they were promptly delivered. The building and rooms look great and are very comfortable.

Roxanne K.

Yelp
I really appreciate a nice establishment that is pet friendly. It can be so hard to find, especially in a downtown setting. My room was very nice and put together... I didn't find any of the usual things (like stray hairs or unclean forks) here. Check in was simple, check out was also simple and they helped me with a taxi that had access to the base. I liked the little mini mart, especially beer :) My only complaint here is the breakfast... If you can call it that? It's not good, plain and simple... NOT GOOD. There aren't a lot of options for breakfast in the area either. From the look of other reviews I may have gotten lucky... I'd probably stay here again!

Yelp
I did my research before I booked this hotel, but I was still disappointed after my stay here (Maybe I just had a bad isolated experience). When I first checked in to this hotel I was given a room on the 6th floor, upon entering I noticed what smelled like a wet sock throughout the room. I am not one to complain, so I opened the windows (the small amount they would) and tried to air it out. After about 30 min though it was not getting any better, I walked in the hallway and smelled the air there and went back in the room a few times to make sure I was not crazy smelling all this mildew. On top of that one only one of the TVs in the room even worked, the walls were dirty and there was long hairs all over the couch. It was the type of place you don't want to sit down or touch anything. So I went down and let them know about the odor, they gave me a new room and that one smelled like a normal hotel room, so I was a bit happier. The place still felt run down, there was food in the sink and you could tell they don't spend too much time cleaning these out after someone checks out. I will share a tip I learned though, they said if I parked a car and had them validate it, that it would be $18 to park in the garage across the street. Well, the garage across the street only charges $13, so just pay at the garage exit with your credit card. Despite this, they still tried to charge me for parking, I had to go down and ask twice for them to remove it from the bill. After reading other reviews it appears this is common.

Yelp
Had a great stay here while visiting Norfolk. The folks here are friendly and helpful. The handicap room could be a bit more tidy but overall it was acceptable. The hot tub sauna wasn't working either which was kind of a bummer.

Sarah S.

Yelp
I am a platinum Marriott member. I only say this, because it shows how frequently I stay in hotels. I really wanted to like this Residence, as we've had good experiences with this brand in the past, and they are dog-friendly. The location is great: downtown and easy walking distance to shops and restaurants. Parking across the street is easy. The lobby and public areas: good and clean and well-kept. The staff: pretty lax. There wasn't a sense of urgency or a desire to help in any way. The room: so sad. Our table was able to wiggle itself apart. The furniture was so terribly worn that it should be an embarrassment to management. It's not even worth sending to a thrift store. Burn it.

Yelp
Residence Inn Norfolk We were in town for Old Dominion Universities December graduation. This was my second stay here. The hotel is nice and the staff was really nice. Even with the hotel being totally full and lots going on in Norfolk the staff was really engaging. The hotel is clean and the decor is modern and updated. We ordered food that evening through the room service menu to the restaurant Crave. We decided to just go and pick it up since it was just a block up the street from the hotel. The order was ready at pick up time and the food was delicious. We highly recommend. I had the opportunity to use the gym which was adequate. A few cardio machines. Clean and looked well maintained. Parking deck across the street was fine. The only issue was the 7:00 breakfast on the weekend. We had an early graduation so we had to be out a little before 7. Most hotels tend to other then coffee or tea at least have apples or bananas sitting out front if not a bag to go.. Just a suggestion. Great overall stay and we will return.

Yelp
This week my family and I had an extreme emergency which will require us to be at the hospital basically around the clock. I decided to stay at this hotel because it's only about 4 minutes away from Norfolk General Hospital. I was assisted by a beautiful young lady named Tiffany and let me tell you, she was truly an ANGEL. I explained to her the situation my family was experiencing and she went above and beyond to ensure that we were taken care of so that we could focus on our loved one. I just wanted to take the time to say thank you to this young lady and let her know that her kindness and care will never be forgotten

Yelp
This place is pretty much your standard hotel. It's pretty clean, looks fairly modern, and well kept! For that I give it 3 stars. They have mixer events mon-wed. Tonight (tues) they had grilled chicken sandwich, salad, and fruits on the menu. The food was ok but it's free so I can't complain. This is a free event meant to allow guests to mingle; however people usually mingle with the people they are staying with or ride solo (me...). They also have alcohol for around $5 depending on what you decide to get. It's a small selection but hey it's better than nothing! This hotel also has free breakfast. The breakfast is set up buffet style with scrambled eggs, pre made hot sandwiches, a self serve waffle machine, juice machine, coffee/tea station, cereal, oatmeal, etc. Again, the food was decent, nothing to rave about. The TV in this hotel is being switched to digital, so theres a mix of digital and analog channels, which is weird because some of the channels are grainy and some have crisp images...but that's first world problems. Just use the TV guide and don't be lazy like me. Overall, I had a nice stay. I didnt have any problems with checking in or staff being rude. *Surprisingly, there is Uber service in area. Even with surge pricing, I felt the price is fair. Good for those coming from out of town without Cars! I used uber 3 times during my stay to get from/to airport and to my interview without any problems. (Its about $16 bucks from the Norfolk airport to this hotel w/ surge pricing...at least when I took it). TIP: if you don't have a car, make sure to let them know when you check-In so that they take the parking charge off your bill. This is an automatic charge, probably because most people who come from out of town bring their own car. Save yourself the headache of changing the bill later by mentioning it to them upfront that you don't have a car.

Yelp
This was a very nice Residence Inn in a very good location. The staff was nice when I checked in and parking is in a deck just across the street. My room was typical for a Residence Inn but very well appointed. The night I got there they had BBQ in the lobby and it was a pretty nice spread. I slept well and the room seemed well soundproofed for being smack in the middle of downtown. Breakfast in the am was very good and the staff were pleasant and helpful. I would definitely stay here again.

Maria C.

Yelp
Decent hotel here...I thought it was going to be a great stay but it was just A-OK. Check in was a breeze - Thanks for making this process smooth sailing Princess (front desk). She informed us of all the specifics...fees...parking...breakfast times...pool times...you know the things you would remember to ask once you get to your room. The room is cute and petite. It is just enough room for 2 people to roam comfortably. Now they have a full kitchen that includes: full size frig with ice maker, two burner stovetop, sink and cooking essentials. Now you can very well cook your own food, but keep in mind this full kitchen isn't your normal FULL kitchen as featured in most hotels. As result, don't attempt to invite 5 or more people and think you will have ample room to roam, party and have a good time cooking a big meal...5 or more will definitely be a tight fit. There is also seating for 2...so I'm thinking yeah this type of room is for only 2 people. The room also included a chair and desk, a couch, love seat and a coffee table. The flat screen, I believe is mounted on the wall, but I tell you they definitely cram all the amenities in this room. The bedroom is separate from the living room area and there is a door (open and closes) to give you some privacy if guests are visiting. There is a stand alone sink, and a shower/tub combo and a toilet (of course). The TV is mounted on the wall also. There is a large window in the room also that provided plenty of light without turning on the lamps in the room. My babe and I only needed the room for one night and it served its purpose. Now we woke up expecting a hot breakfast in the A.M. While it was a hot breakfast...it was a limited hot breakfast with no meat!! While I'm ok with that, some people may have a cow when they see no meat as an option for breakfast. But breakfast featured...eggs, yogurt, apples, bananas, oatmeal, muffins, biscuits and gravy and juice...it may of been a few other items, but definitely nothing to rave about. The eggs...no bueno! Luckily there are eateries within walking distance but if not hop in your car and you are sure to find a pleasing meal within 10 minutes or less. After breakfast we wanted to go for a swim or soak in the hot tub...but the water was cold and for that matter I just said forget it and we caught a few more zzz's before check out. A late check out was granted without hassle. Awesome!! The bill and all was correct. However, I checked into this hotel through YELP and a free voucher popped up for another visit...awesomeness!!! So I thought!!! I asked the front desk clerk on Sunday about it and she had no clue. She opted to give me some pass to get a free gift from MacArthur Mall, but clearly that is not what was being offered through Yelp. When I asked to speak with a manager (because no manager was present Saturday afternoon and Princess advised one would be present at 8am the next day - Princess did not know about the voucher either), the front desk clerk advised no manager was available. I believe she said the engineer on duty was the manager for the day...HOW TACKY!!! So there is a voucher advertising this hotel and the hotel itself knew nothing about it...and no one did anything to look into further. For two days I did not get an answer, so perhaps calling reservations will provide some insight. Talk about OVER THE TOP customer service, or customer service at that...definitely was not pleased at all. The demeanor of the clerk was as if she didn't care and just wanted me to accept her answer and the shopping pass to MacArthur. Needless to say, I walked about very disappointed that I even booked this hotel. Oh well...stay here at your own risk. While it's in a good location in downtown Norfolk, if you are looking for over the top service you just may or may not receive it here. Enjoy

Yelp
So this just happened. We booked a month ago. We tried to check-in and the attendant says we do not have a room. They overbooked the hotel. I tried to check-in multiple times during they day but they were always "you're room is not ready yet". Multiple calls to them, no progress in checking in. Now they don't have rooms. So we are out late at night without anyplace to go. Thanks a lot residence inn, will never book with you again.

Yelp
We checked into the Residence Inn and the man working at the front desk couldn't have been nicer. I got the feeling he was a member of hotels management team. And if he wasn't, he should have been. He was friendly and helpful. Twice. On the way to our first room, when we got off the elevator we noticed the hallway smelled like garbage. We entered the room to find a strong smell of marijuana. Not necessary a bad thing if you're a college kid, but if you're traveling with your pregnant wife and family, this is bad. The room also had rice scattered on the sofa. Gross. We went back to the front desk to complain and they gave us a new room. We went to our new room there was an even worse smell inside. A mix of body odor and garbage. The table also had greasy handprints on it. NO THANKS. We went back to the front desk, handed over our room keys, and said no thanks. Right now we don't have anywhere to sleep tonight in Norfolk. We will try another hotel or maybe stay with family members. Very disappointed in this hotel. I expected something better with the Marriott name.

Yelp
Watch your belongings at this hotel! I went to Norfolk for my son's graduation. I am a former Marriott employee, so when I travel, I usually stay at Marriott Hotels when I can. I checked in at about 1 am and checked out around 7 am. After I checked out, I realized that I forgot my Apple Watch in the room. I called the housekeeping and front desk numerous times and left messages and voicemails and nobody called me back. I was later able to track my $500 watch leaving the hotel! Of course, still no call back. It's obvious that they probably figured out that the watch "walked away" and they simply don't care.

Yelp
Bottom Line: Good location, ok décor but clean. What I liked most about this Residence Inn was the convenient location to downtown Norfolk and the many eateries, shops and attractions in this historic and revitalized city. It was nice to be able to walk a few blocks for a great dinner or to do some shopping at the mall. If you want to head out further across town, the Tide Light Rail station is right across the street. I was upgraded to a King Suite which was more than adequate for my one-night, two person stay here. The room was very clean which is great because it must take the maids a lot of time to clean a space that includes a kitchen. Some of the furniture was very, very worn. I had one arm chair in my room that was definitely unattractive and should have been retired long ago. When I see stuff like that, it makes me wonder where else the hotel is cutting corners. The one thing that was awkward about the King suite is that the TV in the bedroom was in a corner and hard to see from the opposite side of the bed. I know that is a minor thing but after a long, hard day I really just wanted to lounge in bed and watch some mindless TV. This Residence Inn is bigger than some of the other RIs at which I've stayed. The indoor pool seemed to be popular with families. The lobby is spacious and is where the breakfasts and lunches are served. Parking was about $15 at an adjacent garage and I thought that was a fair price. The staff here was fine but I would say they definitely worked at their own pace. There wasn't a lot of energy or urgency from them. I spend about 20% - 25% of my life in hotels (and mostly Marriotts) and I definitely think there is room for improvement at this Residence Inn.

Yelp
In town for extended stay, must say staff customer service was superior and accommodations were well above the standard even though final touches of a renovation were in progress. Pros: Helpful & friendly staff (Clarence & Lisa) Location (restaurants, bars & mall nearby) Room comfort and styling Cons: City parking structure (but adequate) Highly recommend, especially if extended stay.

Yelp
Fairly updated hotel. Not really modern but clean and staff is friendly. Breakfast was nice, not the usual continental, but full bkfst items. Walking distance to restaurants and Sports Dome. Rates were reasonable for the area.

Yelp
This is hands down the worst Marriot I have ever stayed at and one of the worst hotels I have experienced yet. Issue 1: No water. None in the rooms, at the front desk, no vending machines, all the water fountains on every floor were broken, and the bar had no water and the bartender wouldn't let me use a glass to take to my room. Issue 2: The bartender. During my 3 day stay I tried to order a drink several times. Couldn't do it. The bartender would see me and literally walk away. It wasn't just me either, as the same thing happened to my friends and several other guests who I heard complaining about it. At one point I actually heard the busser asking about what was going on. Issue 3: Broken spa. I asked the front desk about it and they said, "it overheats so we just leave the temperature on cold." Here's an idea, how about fixing it? Kind of like the water fountains? Issue 4: Crusty blankets. Eww. Just gross.

Yelp
It worked well for ODU graduation... PROs: Price better than the waterfront hotels. 8 Mins from ODU. Close to $$$ restaurants...be ready to spend! Good shopping and museums. Chrysler is a must for art lovers! Staff is super friendly. A/C was adequate. CONs: Super slippery and smelly furniture polish I had to wipe off. Hot tub broke for over a month. Room way smaller than the wide-angle photos. Pet friendly means you will smell a wet dog in the elevator if it's raining. Room was pretty worn. Maintenance guy had to fix shower.

Yelp
We stayed here overnight on our way down to the Outer Banks in NC. The hotel was reasonably close to the airport and was convenient for picking up family members there. It's a newer hotel (or has been renovated recently) and the 2-bedroom suite that we had was really nice. They offered a free breakfast and there was a nice indoor pool and hot tub. The staff and GM were very friendly and made our stay very enjoyable. I'd stay here again if I'm ever back in Norfolk. The hotel is close to many shops, restaurants and a movie theater; all within walking distance. The only parking option at the hotel is a self-park garage across the street for $18 per night.

Yelp
It's kinda sad that I see the same vehicle parked in the front of the hotel everyday and now that I see who's vehicle it is tells me why no one says anything about. I'm sure the guest that stay here have no clue since they come and go but I find it rude that the management would rather inconvenience his guest by leaving his white Toyota Tacoma parked in the front than to be courteous and park it in the hotel parking garage so that when guest who are being dropped off or picked up don't have to park on the opposite side is the street

Yelp
My family of 5 stayed at this location during the first Saturday in November 2016. It was during the winter months and my 3 kids wanted to play and swim an indoor heated pool. Before I made reservations, I specifically asked the lady on the phone if the indoor pool was heated. Her answer was, "yes, the indoor pool IS heated"....so I booked the reservation. After checking in, and the kids ready for an evening swim...they were disappointed that the pool water was ice COLD (62 degrees to be exact)! We asked the engineer if he can turn the heater in the pool on, which he did that night. When we returned early the next morning, the pool water was even COLDER then the night before. My kids were very upset that we traveled the 4 hour drive from our home to an ICE COLD POOL! Trip fail! The gentlemen in the front desk, Steven, was very nice and helped move us from a king studio suite to a double queen 1 bedroom suite with a pull out sofa. Great job Steven! Our room layout was very nice and spacious. The 2 double beds were very comfortable, according to the kids. However the pull out sofa bed was horrible. My husband and I barely slept that night. The mattress was very thin, and you can literally "feel" the wires and springs from underneath the thin worn out mattress. They did not have extra pillows in the room for people who wanted to sleep on the pull out sofa, and it took them about 45min - 1 hour to bring three pillows to our room after we called the front desk. The furniture and decor in the room were nice and updated, the only complaint would be the "smell" coming from the carpet area in front of bathroom (we stayed in room 609). It had a very strong chemical smell, almost like they were trying to "mask" an even stronger gross smell. The hotel is extremely pet friendly. (complete with dog poop and urine smells from the rug). The free hot breakfast was great with eggs, sausage, waffles, bagels, fruit, orange juice, apple juice, coffee hot chocolate, etc. Unfortunately we will not be staying in this hotel in the future. Mainly because the pool was so cold and was misinformed about it being a heated pool. The internet wifi was slow, but free. If you want faster internet speed, you would have to pay$4.99 per night to watch movies or play games. Note to manager, please turn the heater in the pool ON, the pool is useless if the temperature is 62 degrees, it's not fun. The front desk customer service agent, Steven, is a true gem and really went out of his way to help accommodate our family quickly, friendly, and professionally.

Yelp
I'm a very picky business traveler and I NEVER stay in a Residence Inn because of the potential for spreading germs (kitchens and such). HOWEVER, I have never seen a more clean and comfortable hotel in the Marriott chain. The reason I chose to stay here was because I noticed it driving by and wanted to use my "points" next time I was in Norfolk. I went into the lobby and was immediately sold. The decor, staff, and amenities are really above my expectations. During my initial visit, the staff gladly showed us every type of room they offered. Here's the breakdown: - stainless steel appliances - granite counter tops - extremely clean interior - buffet breakfast that won't make u sick - friendly staff - short walk to everything (mall, waterfront, restaurants) - $200/night ... For a 2 bedroom!! Again, I travel about 150K miles/year and visit multiple chains. This hotel convinced me to get a Marriott credit card so I can collect points and visit my daughter at ODU. Every visit to Norfolk will be here.

Yelp
Great setup...wonderful accommodations for my overnight stay (an evening wedding with a joyously late reception!) Very pleased with Residence Inn. Can't figure out how I could have missed their breakfast ;) Coffee in the room was good! Also note: the three parking metered spaces out front are free on Sundays and holidays, so there are times when you don't have to pay the $15/day to use the garage. Of course, there are only three spaces....and the $15 you pay to the hotel gives you in-out parking all day. (Otherwise it would be $12 a pop with the garage cashiers.)

Yelp
I stayed at Hilton The Main last time, and this place surpasses it tenfold. I want to start off with the gym sucks, that is my only real complaint besides water pressure in the kitchenette. Great customer service, amazing breakfast options and with their community nights almost every night there is almost no need to even cook. Can i just emphasize their breakfast again? I've had a awesome week and the central location is great. One block from the YMCA so i was still able to lap swim and maintain for my Triathlons. Stay here over the main i promise it will be more enjoyable.

Yelp
Great rooms, really clean. Great morning food, not over cooked. But, the best part of the experience was the staff, Great people! Everyone, from the front to the back were Great, happy, friendly, courteous, professional, and fun. Hopefully you'll have the same experience.

Yelp
Spacious clean rooms. Quiet rooms, even with other tenants in the hallways. Breakfast served daily. It's not a five start restuarant, but you won't be heading out on an empty stomach. 16$ per day for parking is pretty lame, and they forget to tell you this when you book the room. C'mon RI, just roll it in to the room cost, everybody has a car !!! Location is North of downtown. Not the best location, but within wlaking distance of most of the important attractions.

Yelp
I got a discounted room here for an interview I had in the Norfolk Area, and it was great! After taking the red-eye, all I wanted to do was sleep. The hotel staff was extremely accommodating and allowed me to have early check-in just a little after 10 AM. Throughout my whole stay, the staff was just amazing. The room was so clean and spacious! It was studio-like with a kitchen, living room area and bedroom area. The gym was also very clean, pretty small but all the equipment worked and cardio machines had personal TVs, they provided towels and water too. And lastly.. I got TWO free meals from this place! They provide little social gatherings for their guests a few nights out of the week. It's buffet style. The food isn't AMMAZING, but is still very good and even better that it's free! The cook was really nice too :) When it came time to leave, the front desk arranged my taxi for me and helped me with my boarding passes, they were very patient and helpful. I really couldn't ask for more! This place is definitely worth staying at if you're ever in the Norfolk area, it's a 5 minute walk from the Chrysler Museum too!

Yelp
So my experience at most Marriots have been considerably great! However, during this past weekend my experience was deplorable to say the least, and simply because of the lack of knowledge with staff. First, I booked with booking.com with a much lower rate than the standard of the facility, and when I got there I was much more expensive. Second, I was told that parking was $13 per night by a what was told the day following a new less knowledgeable associate, and then $18 the following day. When I got to the meter however it said $13 as well. There were so many mix ups during this weekend stay. Finally, but certainly not the least but it was a complete construction site in the lobby making the situation even worse. It was hard to maneuver through the hotel with my things, and the appearance wasn't what I expect of Marriott. I wouldn't recommend not staying here, but I would tell you to rethink before you do.

Yelp
Stayed here with a friend and the customer service was horrendous. No spare toiletries in the bathroom, when I requested for it they told they'd be up shortly - never arrived. The bed had a blood stain on it... gross.

Yelp
I enjoyed it here. Walking distance to several very good restaurants such as Freemason Abby and the barrel room. The staff was very friendly. It is a little difficult to find out how to get into the parking garage but once you're in the validation of the ticket process is pretty easy. Very clean with high Marriott standard service which is always very good.

Amelia K.

Yelp
Very clean rooms and bathroom. I like how when you walk into the room it doesn't smell like bleach (aka that hotel smell). Great location with free parking in the parking garage. (You must present your parking garage ticket to the front desk upon arrival for parking to be free for your stay.) Breakfast was included in my stay. There was a wide variety of choices to accommodate any diet. I definitely will stay here again!!

Yelp
One word: Dank. The room smells of wet dog mixed with old Chinese food with just a touch of mildew thrown in to round out the foul odor. The furniture is worn and in sore need of an update. The front desk is manned by only one staff member resulting in a long line of poor souls who must wait endlessly for the distinct displeasure of staying at this smelly and disgusting dump. Please do yourself a favor and stay elsewhere. Maybe if enough people opt for a better hotel the flea bag, bed bug, beanbags who run the joint will realize they have no choice but to replace the furniture and stinky and stained carpets.

Yelp
This is the worst hotel I've ever visited. I travel for business and have meetings in my room a lot. Come to find out, my hotel room had no doors for the bathroom or even the kitchen! They took them down due to COVID. How does that make sense?!? I had to have two meetings with the smell of toilet water in my face. The pool and spa was closed and when I called before I booked it, they promised me it was open. The free breakfast was (I kid you not), an apple and glass of orange juice, but just one per a person according to the big sign they had. They refused to clean my room due to COVID, and if I needed something like toilet paper or even a clean towel, I was told to get myself down to the lobby and get it myself from the staff. They were very rude! When I was checking out, they told me I had better wash my dishes (They have glass dishes to use in your room) before I leave or I would be fined. This is just wrong. I am behind disappointed. For $200 a night, you could go to a much nicer place. Don't book this hotel!

Yelp
Sneaky charges!!! Charged both our rooms for parking without asking if we even used. Funny thing was person in front of us checkout our was also charged.

Gene D.

Yelp
Great location near restaurants and the happenings of Norfolk. Very comfortable rooms that I enjoyed for my two week stay.

Gary D.

Yelp
Great hotel for downtown area. It's close to the bars & restaurants downtown. The hotel is very big, the rooms are great, very clean, nice kitchens with dishwashers, perfect for long stays. The gym is pretty decent. Only downside is you pay for parking but most of the downtown hotels charge and they are about the same price as the other places for parking.
