Respect Is Burning Kitchen and Bar

From the moment we walked in we felt amazing. The hostess was smiling and very nice, our waitress was spot on and the menu was fantastic. Our drinks and food were made to perfection. The atmosphere and vibe made our evening fly by and we just got lost in conversation. This should be the go to place for anyone that wants an amazing meal and to impress friends, colleagues or a date. Rob you have created something truly special

Space: Been here twice in two weeks and if you are into retro spaces, this is for you. Food: The food is really good, I recommend the lamb chop if you are into meat. They make a really good steak as well. The tiramisu was amazing 5/5, the Nutella pizza on the other hand was a 3/5 for me, not a big Nutella fan but if you are, this could be a good try. The ravioli was really filling so that’s a 7/10 for me. Servers were really great. The only distraction for me was the constant check in, I guess that’s what good service is for them so if it’s same for you, you would love the space. A total 8/10 all round for me.

Kris B.

Google
The food and service here is amazing. Good drinks, good ravioli. But the music in here is SO LOUD, we could barely hear our waitress and it definitely made us want to leave early. Had it been quieter this place would be a 10/10, however I can't see this being the type of place I could bring family too because of the noise level.

Google
A really positive overall experience. We were greeted with enthusiasm by the owner who gave us a tour of the restaurant and let us select our seats. The menu had good selection. Our drinks were great. The servers were efficient and attentive. The owner was very kind and gave us a complimentary appetizer along with checking to ensure we were enjoying our meal. The pasta was really tasty and HUGE portions so go hungry. The space had a great atmosphere and you could choose the louder bar vibe or the other side if you want a bit calmer place to chat. We left feeling very full and are looking forward to returning the next time we visit Sudbury!

Google
Great restaurant. Great service. Our waitress was fantastic! Nothing to complain about, I’m very pleased with the experience!! Definitely recommend:)

Google
Respect is burning is my go to for a fantastic meal in Sudbury. Deep woods bruschetta is one of my all time favourite things to eat - period. I’ve always had the best food and waitstaff. It’s where I bring my out of town guests and my birthday dinner pick every year. Last year I got the salmon and was blown away! So delicious (pictured). Rob is such an advocate for our city and you can feel the pride he takes in his establishment in every way. The best food with the best ingredients and the best atmosphere. Simply the best!

Oh man let me tell you this place was sooooo amazing!! While staying in Sudbury we found this absolute gem of a restaurant on Google with great reviews so I certainly wanted to share my experience there. Service was great and we even had the owner come and have a chat with us as he was going around making sure all tables had everything they needed, as there was quite a few customers, the servers were very busy but super efficient! We had the bruschetta to start and was excellent, my main was a special that night I can't remember the name of it but, it was a seasoned chicken breast on a bed of mushrooms and crispy potatoes. My goodness it was absolutely delicious. My buddy had the cheese ravioli which he said was amazing. Great atmosphere and great decor. Definitely recommend and if we're ever in Sudbury again we will certainly be back!!

Google
The food is always super good. The service was nice and quick also. Reason for 3 stars is: 1- music is WAY too loud. We couldn't even have a conversation cause we would've had to yell over the music, and over all the people also yelling over the music. So we spent our 10year anniversary eating in silence and listening to the young couple next to us talk about investments and stocks the whole time. 2- lighting is way too dim. People with vision problems cannot read that tiny font on the menu. My spouse couldn't read it at all, so discouraged, he just asked me to order something for him. 3- we made a reservation and specifically asked for a "romantic" spot since it was our 10th anniversary (you know, like a corner table or something...). We were wished happy anniversary, but then seated right in between 2 tables, right in the middle of the place (which are too close....no privacy even if you tried.....like I said, we listened to the one couple's conversation the entire time). Discouraged, we were seated, ate and gone within 40minutes! Like I said, service was quick at least.

Yelp
Me and the girlfriend went tonight and had a great time of it. I had an old fashioned, she had a raspberry lemonade cocktail. Apps were the wings and they were absolutely divine. I had the RIGATONI ALLA MATRICIANA and she had the TAGLIATELLA VENEZIA (the waitress we had was good enough to say the names of them for us because we were not gonna try (too french Canadian lmao)). We walked away from our meal completely satisfied and we will definitely be back. Atmosphere of the place was on point, although very loud but that's to be expected on a Saturday night. I wish I remembered the waitress' name because she did a phenomenal job and we even talked about my hometown of Timmins, Ontario. All in all, if you have the chance, you definitely need to go.

Yelp
Respect is Burning Kitchen and Bar, located in Durham Social is fantastic. The service, along with the ambiance and the amazing food was definitely worth the trip. Up in Sudbury for the weekend (First time for myself) and we were looking for somewhere good to eat. Thanks to my wife (knower of all) for the suggestion. I'll start with the ambiance and service. The restaurant has a specific vibe and it looks great, matched with fantastic service. Our server was fantastic. She knew her dishes and was able to properly suggest and answer every question asked.. my only criticism (which was circumstantial more than anything) when it's busy the servers get bogged down. Although no cocktails were had they did look good on other tables. With all that being said, the reason you come here is the food. The Mushroom salad was amazing as a shared app. The Mushroom pasta, the lamb chop, steak frites and the salmon all came with rave reviews. The portion sizes are perfect and keep that in mind if you plan on getting dessert, even shared we had trouble finishing it (don't worry it got finished but we struggled). All in all this place was great and I would definitely come again if I was ever to pass through Sudbury again

Darian B.

Yelp
Had this as Catered food for a Christmas party and it was fantastic! The people are very kind and the food is very good. Would definitely have again!

Yelp
In a world where little seems real some days - including a meal on a restaurant plate - they have dedicated their approach to bringing it back to beautiful basics and totally terrific tastiness...done with a wink, a hug, and a streetwise smile. With the occasional James Brown, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, AIR, and Neil Young set in the mix... (I stole those words right out of their mouth) **the vibe is really cool set in what might have once been a brothel. I got some of the history including that the building had once caught on fire. ** the service was okay and I didn't lack for anything ** the food was delicious

Yelp
I had supper this evening at Respect is Burning. It's a big place with various spots to sit. I ordered a Werewolf by Night pizza (minus mushrooms). I love love love pizza and this was a good pizza. The crust was thin, sturdy and chewy. The tomato sauce was sweet. I don't usually get red peppers on a pizza and they were a nice touch. I'd get it again. Brandon was my server. He was friendly and took good care of me. Patrons were given envelopes for next time ... inside you can win gift cards or meals. I didn't open mine in case I'm able to give it someone who lives here to enjoy.

Yelp
This is a nice place to go to to hang out, drink and enjoy live music. Food is not the main reason to come here. Food: 3/5. The pastas we got were orecchiette and carbonara (can't remember full name). The taste of the pastas didn't stick out to me. Relatively bland and extremely oily/greasy. The pasta was cooked al dente which was nice. The chocolate cake was good but slightly hard, wish it was more soft and spongey. Server: 4/5. She was nice and approachable. Took our orders promptly and our food came out 15 mins after ordering. Held a nice conversation when we were paying for our bill. Place: 4/5. The atmosphere on a Saturday night was definitely more of a chill and drink vibe. We didn't sit on the side of the live music, but instead on the cafe/restaurant side. It had an interesting decor and more calm atmosphere than the other side. The place was dimly lit and extremely cold!

Mary H.

Yelp
We had a great meal of lamb chops and delicious pasta! It was a recommendation from a local and one we thoroughly enjoyed!
google avatar

Mario P.

Yelp
Not many places in Sudbury that have lamb chops let alone know how to prepare them. Had a craving and picked the right place. Atmosphere and setting just right, a bit loud. Parking not the greatest but food will make up for everything. Lamb was seasoned perfectly and cooked to perfection rare to medium rare. Portion was more than enough...good sides. Bravo!

Yelp
Had a wonderful meal here last week. Great ambience... very cool vibe. Coltrane and Gilberto and others playing in the background. Friendly and engaging owner. Delightful waitress who guided me through the menu where I settled on pasta and clams. Simply prepared rustic fare. Dinner was capped off with a lovely Amaro Vecchio, which they prepared on spec in lieu of the Strega I had requested. No matter...it was delicious and is my new go-to digestif. On the drive back to the hotel, I decided to cap off the evening with a cigar. A woman and her young son pulled up beside me at a stoplight. Noticing the cigar, she rolled down her window and said "My son says life is good!" I smiled and replied Yes, it is. I can't wait to go back. Postscript to this review...two nights later, my wife were dining out locally in Aurora (Locale). I ordered Amaro Vecchio after dinner as it was available on their drinks menu. When I related my story of how I came to order it to our server, she immediately blurted out the name of the restaurant without prompting. Not only did she know Rob the owner but went to school with him and was taught by his mom in grade school. Strange, small-world-isn't-it kismet.

Yelp
Good:Foods are tasty which means by flavors and textures. Handsome servers are with patience. fast preparation. Bad:The price is definitely higher than foods' real value. I can promise that their food materials cannot be at high class. This is also inferred from the fast preparation which is less than 20 mins. Probably, they took out dinner dishes out of fridge and used micro ovens.
google avatar

Roscoe M.

Yelp
This is a great place to eat. Had The Don pizza and it was fantastic. Good prices. Cold beer. Really annoying that it opens AT 5! PM! NOT 4:30 like it says but the food was so good I give them a pass. Can't recommend it enough.

Yelp
Found Respect on yelp and was glad I did. This is an upscale, hipster restaurant in downtown Sudbury. My colleague and I started with drinks: martini and cherry smash, both solid choices. I switched to a local session IPA, which was perfect for the meal. We both ordered from the grill menu. I had the Alberta sirloin, perfectly cooked and accompanied with white beans, broccoli, and roasted potatoes. Didn't leave anything on the plate. Finished the meal off with maple walnut ice cream. The service was super attentive and the place looked cool with a Black Sabbath poster on the wall. Can't go wrong here.
google avatar

Yelp
So good. There were 58 positive reviews and they were spot on. Don't hesitate,. Go directly to this place if you love authentic Italian

les l.

Yelp
We finally made it to Respect is Burning and it was great. The atmosphere, food and service were all as we hoped they would be. The food was sooooooooooo good. Had the gnocchi apps and Woodland bruschetta, both were excellent but oh the bruschetta was extra delicious. Dinner companions were all very pleased with meal choices, Butter sage ravioli, the ribs, the bucatini and my linguini and meatballs all perfect. The service was just right, friendly and attentive. Two negatives, water had to be requested, twice and bread isn't available except as a $4 charge for garlic bread, Nonna would be horrified! A return trip is in order.
google avatar

Helen K.

Yelp
Odd place with character. Don't particularly like downtown. Appetizer was quail legs on chickpeas which was very good. Hubby had Angus sirloin which comes with home style fried potatoes on white beans with broccoli on the side. The steak was cooked medium and was tasty but dry. I had salmon wrapped in prosciutto with the same potatoes, beans, and broccoli. Was good. Food came out fast and service was good. Did it thrill us...no.
google avatar

Kris F.

Yelp
As a guy from Toronto who has lived in Little Italy this place gets a definite thumbs up. Good ambiance, friendly servers, and the food was spot on. I had the salmon, beans, and if I recall correctly rapini as well. Had a pair of Stack Cram Ales (local beer) and finished off with a few scoops of double chocolate ice cream which was also very delicious. Sudbury was always known for being a burger and pizza joint but the owners of this place have apparently changed that and if you have some coin in your pocket it's worth a nice dinner out for sure.

Yelp
Amazing salads with the freshest of ingredients. Salad portions are humongous and delicious, can't wait to try all the salads!!! I also had mussels, not my cup of tea, broth was very fishy. :( The bread that accompanied meal was crunchy and soft in the same bite,--a real treat. Wine selection could be tweaked a little. I'm looking forward to my next visit,--can't wait!!

Cindy B.

Yelp
No complaints about the food but the server was horrible! Rude attitude and did not take constructive criticism well. I'm not going to name the server, i hope the management will take note of her behaviour. Not going back.
google avatar

Mark P.

Yelp
This was a great find in a town which has definitely seen better days. Three "small plates" provided more food than the two of us could eat. The dining room is unique, combining some outdoor seating and a stripped down urban decor in the main room. The sausage and the gnocchi were outstanding. Service was knowledgeable and friendly. Pricing was fair.
google avatar

Greg G.

Yelp
Came here with a large party of work colleagues. Ordered different appetizers and a couple different bottles of wine before our meal. I personally ordered a strip steak with vegetables. All were excellent. The place was a little loud and made conversations a bit challenging, but the building is very cool and intriguing. Service was excellent with our waiter being highly attentive. Would definitely dine here again.

Leo M.

Yelp
I don't know what to say; WOW! I eat out all the time due to work, and I was impressed. That is a very hard thing to do. The food was elegant and simple, and unbelievably delicious. Most places are pretentious and the food is mediocre. This place is inviting uncomplicated and a gastronomic delight. I highly recommend eating here, you're taste buds will thank you.

Yelp
Great Italian Fusion Food. They take their time to prepare the foods, and it is evident in the flavour of foods that you can get from here. If you are going in a group and have time to book well in Advance, I highly recommend that you ask for the Chef's table, you tell them how much you want to spend per person and they make the menu to your taste and flavourful. If you are going here without a reservation, I would suggest that you have a backup plan, because this place gets busy on evenings and weekends. They have enough vegetarian options and will accommodate your needs. Vegan and gluten free options are very limited to non-existant, but if you are getting the Chef's table tell them your preferences and they will adapt the menu to suit your needs. If you are going here for Lunch, there are no vegetarian options on the lunch menu. Servers are helpful (it can be hard to get their attention when the place is busy). This is Sudbury's finest restaurant food wise, with a lot of variety to satisfy the meat and potato eater to the vegetarian.
google avatar

Shafiq A.

Yelp
Ordered the Chicken Saltambocca which was delicious and a good portion. The sides here however are very weak - you don't get options it's just veggies, potatoes and beans. Overall I enjoyed my meal but would say this place is definitely overpriced.
google avatar

Yelp
My wife and I went to celebrate our wedding anniversary and we're quite pleased. Very good quality food at a reasonable price. The atmosphere is very relaxing and inviting.
google avatar

Yelp
Love this place. The menu centers on Italian faire. There are several inspired salad and bruchettas to choose from to start you off. For main courses there are several great pasta options. If you need to get your meat on, the steak and veal are fantastic options. Salmon is an option if you prefer surf to turf. Finally, the pizza rocks. I am not sure what the deal is, but the pizza is divine. The toppings and styles of pizza available will satisfy every lover out there. My personal favourite is "Werewolf by Night". I believe there is also some great dessert options however I am never able to get there as I usually tap out prior to the end of the meal. The bartenders know what they are doing. There is a full range of classic and designer cocktails available. The setting is nice too. In the summer the front of the restaurant is opened up and a nice view of Durham Street is offered. It is a pretty cosmopolitan view assuming the finest downtown has to offer aren't rolling around on the sidewalks. Inside all the waitresses are pretty chic and the service is good. The decor is really wild and truly unique, including an abstact nude painting of the owner's wife. To cap it off, the restaurant offers a loyalty program for free and throws in free specials all the time. I always look forward to returning to Respect is Burning

Yelp
An absolute must dine of Sudbury. The unassuming storefront hides a gem of an Italian restaurant with hip ambiance, great service and excellent food. We drank red wine and the Italian iced tea. For starter, the tapas appetizer special. My main was the gnocchi. The sampler was perfect size for sharing with artichokes, olives, prosciutto, marinated mushrooms, pita, and chicken wings. All ingredients were of an evident quality. The gnocchi is served in a sauce that's so tasty I would KILL to know how it's made. Coming from the NY area we were blown away at the quality of food. There is no question that this restaurant has a big market quality and vibe. This place would thrive in a big city. Great for a date night or a group dinner(consider getting a reservation). Perhaps a bit pricy to someone on a student's budget but at Respect is Burning you're getting what you pay in quality ingredients. Do dress nicely as this is an upscale eatery
google avatar

Jon M.

Yelp
This is one of the few Sudbury restaurants I want to visit when I return to visit family & friends. If you plan on bringing a group then book ahead because the tables are often filled. The pastas & pizzas have always been a proper hit for me. Rob the owner is a good guy, I used to play music upstairs back in the day and he was always a good host.
google avatar

Selena C.

Yelp
I'll start off by saying I like Respect is Burning. I thank god it exists in Sudbury. There's not a lot of places you can go in this city for a beef carpaccio and that it exists downtown, in the heart of the city (although I'm not entirely if sure the two are synonymous anymore) is a definite bonus. I've been to Verdicchio's, it's sister restaurant and enjoyed it as well, but it's out on Kelly Lake Rd and besides, it's a little too fancy for a single diner like myself. RIB is a place you can go dressed down without the danger of being penned in between couples celebrating their anniversary nights decked out in their Sunday best. They have a long cocktail list with reasonable prices so I could even see going for a before or after-dinner drink at the bar. The menu is Italian. It's not hugely inventive but that's not necessarily a bad thing. The pasta dishes appear to come in healthy servings. Wanting something on the lighter side, I ordered the beef carpaccio and the mushroom bruschetta. The beef was perfect, nicely arranged on a small pile of baby arugula (not baby spinach as the menu says). It was drizzled with balsamic and olive oil. My only complaint was that it was sprinkled with a pinch of grated parmigiana. When it comes to a dish this simple, you don't mess with the key components. Shave the parmigiana. It's not supposed to be decorative. The Deep Woods Bruschetta consisted of button mushrooms, fried in butter, I think, and piled onto toasted slices of bread generously spread with mascarpone cheese. Delicious. The portion size was a bit big for one person but perfect for sharing. The wine selection by the glass was shameful considering that this is an Italian restaurant. Only one red and one of white was available. I didn't look at the bottle selection since I was dining alone. The prices are on par with some of the Toronto restaurants I frequent which made me do a double take, particularly when I glanced at the pizza menu. For dishes over twenty dollars I'm looking for quality over quantity, and with pizza it had better be blow-my-mind good. That said, I'll return and I'd recommend it if you're looking for something outside the Deluxe Drive Through experience. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Yelp
Great dinner, great atmosphere, waitstaff very attentive and displayed great teamwork on a busy night.
google avatar

Hossmorshedi ..

Yelp
Absolutely fantastic! My family and I have visited Respect is burning a few times and each time the food has been fresh, flavourful and unique. Personally I don't like muscles, but I loved the muscles. I don't like risotto, but I loved the risotto. I don't like lamb, but I loved the lamb chop.
google avatar

Dave K.

Yelp
Great food, energy, and to top it off great service. I had the sirloin and it was better than the last few tenderloin steaks that I've had lately. It's a little loud but not obnoxious. Try the apple tort is warm, not too sweet and has a great velvet texture. The crust was a little too thick but still very nice. The owner, Rob, was out on the floor and was on the job. We were on sudbury on business and RIB was recommend by one of our customers.
google avatar

Joe I.

Yelp
Meh. I liked that the pizzas were named after b-list Marvel super heroes but they were named better than they tasted. My goat cheese salad was okay, but the egg thing that came on top of it was a weird texture to have in a salad. It was okay, not great, but okay.
google avatar

Sara G.

Yelp
This was my first time here, so let me start with the good. The service was amazing. We were seated right away; given menus; and our drink order was taken. Our server told us about the specials and made a few recommendations because, in my opinion, the menu is too big. We had the mushroom bruschetta to start and I ordered the rocket & prosciutto pasta. I wasn't overly impressed with the food. The bruschetta could have benefitted from better bread and the huge portion of pasta was too salty for my liking.
google avatar

Roy W.

Yelp
Oct 2013 Group of 6 for dinner. Busy Saturday night. Slow service but good italian food.

Ashley M.

Yelp
I can't say enough great things about this place! The seafood linguine, bolognese and gnocchi are unreal. The pasta is homemade and I am picky on quality because I'm Italian. Service is fantastic and the wine selection is small but fantastic. I'm only in Sudbury a few times a year and I ensure to always have a meal here!
google avatar

Parākram T.

Yelp
Delicious fried mushroom salad. Could've added a bit more arugula. Mushroom Pappardelle was ok. Bit on rich side, but that's my own fault ordering a cream sauce. Could do with more vegetarian options.
google avatar

Angel H.

Yelp
I think the place is a little bit overrated. The appetizer and pasta were a bit pricey. (20 for a pasta wasnt what i was looking for) The place has the price of restaurant like moxie or milestone but it didn't meet the same decoration taste. However, you can't ask too much since there isn't many choice in Sudbury. The food was alright. I had the flatbread with my boyfriend which tastes good. I like the sour flavor artichoke heart topping. My boyfriend loved the quails he had. The waitresses were nice and they refilled our drink very fast. Overall, nice place but I don't think I would go back.
google avatar

Ashay G.

Yelp
An oasis in the desert! Great staff and srvice perfectly complement the excellent food.
google avatar

Ronald H.

Yelp
Nice place with a good variety on the menu. Offering something for everyone. Tapas, fish, steak, chicken, salad you name it they got it.....what they don't have is a good tequila selection. Sudbury is not much of a tequila town it seems. Great and cute staff, highly recommended.
google avatar

David T.

Yelp
Great name. Very good food. Italian style but not classic heavy style. Very busy on a Friday or Saturday night so make a reservation.
google avatar

Isabella A.

Yelp
Respest is burning is becoming a landmark for our city. Since its opening the food has been great and authentic. The service is always outstanding. The only thing I wish they would improve is the seats ans tables. They look used and worn which is odd becuase they just had a large renovation and upgrade.
google avatar

Kelly C.

Yelp
The first time I entered this restaurant was for lunch and I actually felt intimidated. The vibe, people, and atmosphere wasn't something I was used to being around. After a couple more visits - for birthday parties, dinners etc... I became comfortable with RIB and I can't wait until they re open. I suggest you try the Chicken Saltimbocca. Only thing I'd appreciate would be when the servers are taking our order and we order the app with the main course, explaining that the app (Tapas platter - special) is very large and comes with a lot of food. I understand up selling, however ordering the tapas platter, starter salads, and then our meals was just too much. Other then that, great place!
google avatar

Tracy U.

Yelp
Fun place, great ambience, terrific food. My only criticism is that it can get a bit crowded and it is difficult to get in without a reservation.
google avatar

Louise D.

Yelp
good ambiance, good service, excellent food. The alberta lamb was fabulous as well as the steak . We had an excellant wine (red)J Lohr Seven Oaks . Had a fabulous time

Matt V.

Yelp
Wow. My wife and I haven't been here in years but what a change! Fantastic ambiance and food. Generous portions. Great taste. And reasonable prices. Will come back many times. The sugar pie and tiramisu combo was a appropriate ending to an excellent experience.
google avatar

Randy H.

Yelp
Chefs table was a disappointment . You get a lot of food but the quality lacked. Creme brûlée was a disaster . Service was excellent and at least was very attentive to us . I would not go back for the chefs table.

D D.

Yelp
I was in Sudbury for work a few years ago and ate here. This was actually one of the best resteraunts I have ever ate it.

Ian R.

Yelp
Meh. Having been to RiB a bunch of times over the years I would say that the food is decent but the menu hasn't really changed at all. Bring us something new.
