The hotel is nice but a bit basic. The room is spacious, beds are good and the bathroom is OK. The room price was also basic, so good value here. Hotel rating: 4/5 Service was good, staff was nice and attentive. Although there is an English menu, staff hardly speaks English and a bit of German, so keep that in mind if you are a foreigner. We were less happy with the restaurant. Again, staff was attentive and there is enough choice on the menu. Food itself was a bit disappointing. Schnitzel and chicken were average, a bit dry and salty, while French fries were undercooked. Prices are OK though. Restaurant rating: 3/5.

The restaurant is not good. The food is below average, the guláš was very weak and watery, the beer they claim is Pilsner Urquell tastes terrible. The service was OK and they have private parking, that's why they get 2 stars. But I would not eat here again.

Amazing food and amazing service. The waitress nicely recommended us food, combinations and drinks. We had an awesome time for a very fair price. Do ask for a Becherovka (Czech bitter) for dessert ;)

This is the ONLY real restaurant in Karlstejn, everything else is closed by 6pm. Good range of food that is well prepared. Nice indoor seating or great outdoor option for those hot summer days (with shade so you don't overheat). The location is also great away from the busy main road of junk shops. There is parking for bikes so also great if you arrive by cycling. I've been here at least three times and I plan to go many more

In the breathtaking landscapes of Czechia, where fairy-tale castles punctuate the rolling hills, you'll find the quintessential European dining experience at Restaurace a penzion Pod Dračí skálou. Located in the shadows of the majestic Karlštejn castle, this gem serves traditional Czech fare that is as enchanting as its architectural neighbor. After a day spent exploring the castle's historic grounds, descending upon Pod Dračí skálou is like finding an oasis. Here, the hospitality is as warm as the hearth, and the food, steeped in Czech tradition, is a hearty culmination to the day's adventure. The smoked ham on red cabbage is an exemplary testament to this culinary tradition. You might expect this to be a heavy dish, but it's surprisingly light and perfectly balanced. The smoke-kissed ham paired with the red cabbage - its excellent acidity providing the perfect counterbalance - offers a masterclass in the art of rustic comfort food. Each bite feels like a homecoming, a tribute to the simple, honest flavors of the Czech countryside. Across the table, the goulash was an echo of this homage. A dish that needs no introduction in this part of the world, the goulash here is simply superb. Every spoonful is a testament to the dedication and love poured into its creation, prompting a bout of plate-licking that speaks louder than any verbal praise. Yet, it's not just the food that makes Pod Dračí skálou an unforgettable experience. It's the warmth of the hearth, the centuries-old castle looming in the backdrop, the comforting hum of satisfied patrons, the clinking of glasses raised in a toast to good food and even better company. It's about the camaraderie shared over hearty meals, the stories exchanged under the watchful gaze of the castle, the memories forged amidst the rustic charm of this delightful establishment. In essence, Pod Dračí skálou isn't just a restaurant or an inn; it's a piece of the Czech soul, lovingly served on a platter. It's a place where the grandeur of Karlštejn meets the earthy charm of traditional Czech fare, a place where every dish is a narrative, every bite an experience. And, as everywhere in this country, English is spoken fluently and all major cards are accepted. Five stars? Undoubtedly. But this place, my friends, transcends ratings.

Loved my overnight stay. Nice quaint place a little away from the town. It's a nice walk alongside nature to get to the hotel. Staff were courteous and were able to accommodate my dietary restrictions. Check in took less than 10 mins as they were expecting me. The room was as displayed on the booking site. Not pretentious, calm place for a calm day. Only about 500m to the main gate of the castle...but it's a fair uphill climb.

The dish advertised at the castle was not available. And the bramboracky and livance were skimmed, way too much flour instead of potatoes or milk and eggs respectively. Just ok.

Nice cosy little place that is 10 minute walk from the castle. Good restaurant & helpful staff. Has car parking, but not for large vehicles.

Yelp
It was a bit of a walk away from the rest of the town, but the food was good and the building interior was an outstanding environment, plus the walk through the forest to the castle is a nice approach. Definitely your typical hearty Czech food with the focus on game meats. It's always funny to say this as a tourist yourself, but all the other customers being Czech was validating. A review here from a couple years ago said foreigners were charged different prices, which would be wildly unacceptable but at least no longer appears the case: the English+Russian menu we had was just as lengthy as the Czech menu and several spot checks revealed the same prices.

Yelp
During my day trip to Karlstejn, I was given the name of this restaurant (they also have rooms as a pension) by the owner of the stables (see my other review from Karlstejn). They have non-smoking and smoking sections, a lovely garden patio for outdoor dining, and menus in English and CZ. The food was reasonable priced, well-prepared, delicious and the wines and beers were very good. I would highly recommend ... it is a long but beautiful quiet walk on a broad path up and past the castle.

Yelp
Fame of the past, you better go somewhere else than here to have good quality Czech homemade food. They used to be good but not anymore. Too big menu with dishes that were popular ten years ago but not anymore. A lot of the dishes feel like they were made from bought pre-made ingredients (like dumplings). Sad but true.

Yelp
I went there with my girlfriend and her family on our trip to Karlstejn. A Czech friend had recommended the restaurant. We were given a menu in English that seemed ways shorter than the Czech menus that some other guests had. So we asked for the Czech menu (we are learning Czech and so we thought we'd give it a try if it meant having more options). The waiter brought a menu in Russian which was also same one page menu. Then I asked explicitly if the Czech menu was different since it looked longer. The waiter replied that it had different meat. I asked to see the Czech menu once more. This time the waiter brought _one page_ out of the Czech menu. I was getting annoyed by this time but I was shocked to see that the Czech menu had very cheap prices compared to the English one. Now, the English menu was not very expensive in itself (Czech Republic in general is cheap) but I found it terrible that the average item on the English menu was around 200Kc while the Czech menu had many items listed under 100Kc! We didn't want to make a scene because of this, so we ordered a mix of things. The waiters inexplicably were visibly annoyed at our request of a Czech menu and were very unfriendly and rude. I would not comment on the quality, but I would not recommend going to this restaurant unless you go with a Czech person. I personally, would not visit this restaurant again.
