Literally a tourist restaurant. The place specializes at Czech cuisine and has menu in many different languages. I haven't try to speak with stuff in other as Czech language so I can't tell how to they handle spoken foreign language. The daily, or more like weekly menu, is always the same - a list of typical mostly Czech meals that would be considered as fast food anywhere else. The only thing that changes is a daily soup. I was able to choose from 2 daily soups - creamy mushroom soup and garlic soup with roasted bread. I had garlic soup that was a little too oily for me, but it might have been only my personal preference. I chose fried chicken steak with potato salad as the main dish. The meat was too salty. That was not the preference, that was a fact. I had very good feeling out of the interior, but below average from the slow waiting and from the taste of the meals. Because of that, the place doesn't use its full potential. I believe that foreigners would enjoy the restaurant and the Czech cuisine more that someone local.

This menu was incredibly enticing, it was hard to choose what to eat. I got the duck and I have no regrets. It was juicy and the complimentary sauces were great. The dumpling assortments are all great and so was the beer. Add on the fact that you are near the Brno Outdoor Market, which is extremely beautiful, and you have yourself a fantastic night. This is easily a restaurant you want to go to if you only spend one night in Brno.

Service is very friendly and quick. The food I ordered was steak and I savored every bite! The portion was just right, medium-rare and great pepper-mustard sauce. Price is just right for what quality you get. Every time I visit Brno I make 'U Spalicku' my restaurant of choice!

Eat here. Be hungry. Don't expect a free seat, it's generally packed. Be patient or reserve in advance. Great traditional food. As you would expect. Like food time traveling in the past. Service is great at ignoring you, but friendly and very helpful when they get to you. :) The mixed plate (first item in specialties) is a great cross cut through traditional meats and dumpling variations on silky smooth cabbage sauce. Though perhaps a little much variety. Germans will have the wrong expectations about the Bratwurst, is is actually made with red cured meat and quite spicy. The cold vinegar sausage starter is objectively not good at all. :) The deer dish was very rich and deep. The menu is written in Czech, German, Italian and Russian. It is very helpful and describes dishes quite well.

Yelp
Local restaurant on the town square with delicious Czech eats. The casual interior is charming with a single fresh flower and candle on every table. Plastic place mats, tavern themed art, and a rustic olde world feel. It's perfect for an area with uneven stone and brick roadways that are best enjoyed with sturdy shoes or boots. There is also an outdoor patio for al fresco dining when the weather permits. The meal was tasty but the starter bread was just okay. There were two types offered: soft rye and breadsticks. The breadsticks were as dry as a bone and I couldn't bring myself to taste one but the rye bread was soft and delicious. I would have preferred butter with the bread but it turned out that the rye bread was quite tasty on its own. The roasted rabbit with red and white cabbage was delicious and I would order this again. It was #42 on the menu and should have come with a "variety of dumplins" but since I also ordered a side of boiled potatoes, the server must have thought I wanted the potatoes *instead* of the dumplings. Not true. I wanted both! Anyway, the rabbit was perfectly roasted and seasoned. The cabbage was unlike any cabbage I've ever tasted. I actually ordered the side of boiled potatoes expecting some lame cabbage concoction to be staring back at me from my plate. Instead, I saw two thick, gravy-like preparations on my plate: one a rich purpley-red and the other creamy white. They were sweet and favorful and the perfect complement to the roasted rabbit. The svickova was delicious. The bread dumplings were soft and thick and the gravy was scrumptious. Service was just okay and although we spoke English since I hadn't yet downloaded my Google offline Czech translator, both servers did their best to speak to us in English. However, the menu includes 4 translations for every item which is extremely helpful. My one complaint would be my missing "variety of dumplins" and my missing server for nearly the entire meal. I wanted to ask about my dumplings but our server didn't return until we had finished our meals. Overall, I would say that the food was close to 4 stars but the service may have been lacking...possibly due to a language barrier. I'll take the service on the chin since I don't speak Czech and round the entire rating up to 4 stars.

Yelp
Classic czech restaurant in Brno, almost an institution of the traditional czech kitchen. They serve, as you might have guessed, traditional czech cuisine of fine quality, as well as they have the local beer on tap. It's a nice place in a nice location, and the service is as it should be.

Yelp
Really nice spot to grab a coffee/beer or even meal right in the Brno's city center. It offers a great view of the square where they often have a farmer's market and currently (it is October as I am writing this review), there is Oktoberfest happening! They offer traditional Czech cousine (there are vegetarian options, too) and have english menu for non-native speakers.

Yelp
Nice staff, great food, good prices. What's not to love? The menu contains Czech and English phrasing for each item (as long as there is an English equivalent ). The atmosphere is relaxing and enjoyable.

Yelp
Nice view on the square. Efficient and friendly service. English spoken and regular menu has English translations. They have regional items. Our waiter translated the lunch specials for us. Goose liver, rabbit, goulash, dumplings, goose leg, chicken items, and crepes filled with stewed plum sauce and topped with poppy seed and powdered sugsr (filling was a little too sweet) among the desserts. Various drinks, leaded and unleaded. A nice spot.
