Stortorgskällaren – Gamla Stan A fantastic place in the heart of Stockholm’s Old Town with a truly special atmosphere. Cozy, historic interior and a very calm, elegant setting that immediately makes you slow down and enjoy the moment. The köttbullar fully live up to their reputation – easily among the best in Gamla Stan. Perfectly seasoned, incredibly tender, served with smooth mashed potatoes, rich creamy sauce and lingonberries. Classic Swedish comfort food done exactly right. Service was friendly, professional, and attentive without being overbearing. Great selection of drinks and a well-curated wine list to match the food. An excellent choice if you want to experience traditional Swedish cuisine in a beautiful, authentic setting. Highly recommended – and definitely worth returning to.

A great discovery and perfect for my final dinner in Stockholm. I had meatballs and mash, followed by almond cake and ice cream. Delicious, and made even more so by the cosy surroundings. If I'm in Stockholm again, I'll definitely be back.

I got the Swedish meatballs and I honestly wanted to lick the plate clean. So good. Wine was also great, and I went for the cheapest 😆 Dessert, i got the brownie, jt was a little hard in texture but very tasty. The picked cherries are *chef's kiss*. Friendly staff. I only knocked 1 star off "atmosphere" because they allow smoking on the terrace and the guy behind me lit up.

What a wonderful experience! At Stortorgskällaren, we enjoyed traditional dishes prepared with care and skill. The combination of all the ingredients was perfectly balanced, making each dish exceptionally delicious. You can clearly taste the attention paid to flavor and tradition here. The Polish waiter also deserves a special mention: he is incredibly attentive, eager to help, and always welcomes guests with a warm smile. This personal and friendly service creates a relaxed, cheerful atmosphere where you immediately feel welcome. In short: a restaurant where delicious food, genuine hospitality, and a pleasant ambiance come together. Highly recommended!

Incredible place. The owner was very kind and hospitable. I highly recommend the typical dish it was very tasty and also beautifully presented.

Amazing experience & food. I don’t eat pork & they managed to give me the classic Swedish meatballs experience using only beef which was great of them.

A super cute, charming, and cozy restaurant in Gamla Stan, right across from the Nobel Museum. I was truly enchanted by its charm and romance — pure delight with a romantic atmosphere, perfect for a glass of wine, a snack, dessert, and coffee over conversation, and even just for a coffee at the end. An absolutely perfect spot. Love it.

Excellent Swedish dishes. Very friendly and helpfully waiters. The Swedish meatballs are excellent. So is the mashed potatoes and berries that come with it. The large Meatball of both meat and pork is also very very good. Very elegant indoors, only open for dinner. Lynch is on the terrace across a very colorful fountain plaza.

We had a wonderful evening at Stortogskallaren. The boys said their steak was the best they had here in Sweden and my salmon was cooked to perfection. The tomato side salad was a hit and we had to order extra to go. Frida was our server and she was delightful -- very helpful with the wine pairings and overall the consummate professional. A wonderful way to spend our first dinner visiting Stockholm!

Decent food and attentive service but unfortunately this place is terribly overpriced. When conveyed to USD a basic schnitzel is about $37 and a nice dish of cauliflower about $15.

If you're looking for a destination venue, this is it! This restaurant is located in the famous and iconic Gamla Stan of Stockholm, Sweden! As I reiterate, this restaurant is a destination venue because of the basement (rich with history). They've classically decorated perfectly. It does not disturb the original structure at all. Although, it occupies sixty to seventy people, comfortably. From my experience (my daughter's wedding was held there), it was a perfect place. Although, due to the large number that was invited, it got too crowded that it was difficult to move around. Notably, the restaurant staff is worth applauding! They were very accommodating to our needs. In addition, they speedily worked to make things happen for us all. There are a ton of basements turned into restaurants and shops in the area which was amazing to see how business owners implemented change to adapt to modernize the old. So, if you are searching for a destination venue, do your diligent research. Some basements are bigger, some have low heights and/or some have narrow openings. Overall they are beautifully restored to accommodate the modern world.

This restaurant is located Right in the square. It has outdoor seating and a really cool inside decor for more seating. The staff is quite attentive. The menu is pretty varied. The prices were reasonable especially when you consider its location. The meatballs and lingonberry sauce with mashed potatoes was very good. The brown sauce wasn't too much. We also ordered the prosciutto pizza and it the tomato sauce was nice. The fresh ricotta was good and the fresh basil added a nice flavor. My only problem was that the pizza was a little dry. It was baked in a nice fire oven, but there wasn't enough sauce and 1/4 of the top had dried sauce but not enough to keep it wet. So that's the only reason I gave it 4 stars. Two extra ladles of sauce would have made it great.

4.5 stars! Overlooking the square with Svenska Akademien in Gamla Stan (Old Town), this restaurant has outdoor and indoor seating. Even though it's located in a super touristy convenient area in the square, the restaurant proves itself with delicious food. There's traditional Swedish cuisine like meatballs and pork belly. Highly, highly recommend the pork belly with apples! The salmon is also delicious and not raw. A reviewer earlier might have ordered the raw herring which is supposed to be served barely cooked. The fish of the day is also yummy, and it's cooked like a bouillabaisse. Overall, a wonderful restaurant in a lovely area. There's also free wifi!

For a visitor in Stockholm, it was probably one of the best places I tried. Great location-city center where you can not only enjoy great food, but the city life in Stockholm. The meat balls were very tender and full of flavor, definitely a must have.

Some of our food was tasty but one our dishes did not come out anything like it was described. When we asked for the manager he told the waiter to tell us that we ordered it regardless and that he would not take it back and it was too bad! He would not even come over to our table. The manager was terrible and should be working elsewhere where he doesn't interact with people since he has no people skills. I would not recommend this restaurant as you are out of luck if you are dissatisfied for any reason. There are much better and friendlier options out there.

Good location. Slow service. Average food. Charged me 70 kroner for tap water. Meatballs were good.
