Grand Café 'Gouverneur De Rouville'

What a delightful experience! I made reservations for a 6.00 p.m. table on the balcony a month in advance and all three of us can agree that the whole experience - from the ambiance to the service and food exceeded our expectations. My husband had the green egg special which was beef tenderloin with sauce and vegetables. He said is was exceptionally well done. As a vegetarian I had the truffle pasta which was very tasty. I was a bit worried about food options for our 9-year old, but they had kids menu so that was a pleasant surprise. She had chicken with fries and ice cream for dessert. Our server was very attentive and had great suggestions. My martini she suggested was very good. For dessert we had the warm brownie with pistachio ice cream which was a great way to cap a beautiful evening. The ambience of the restaurant is great, the courtyard is delightful and the balcony has a great view. The building itself has a history and charm that create a very warm atmosphere. We were very happy with our experience and highly recommend this restaurant.

This was obviously the place to be in Willemstad. It was packed the whole evening. We did not have reservations and luckily got a seat. Though we do suggest making reservations. It is huge place and absolutely lovely. We had dinner and tried to visit for coffee but there was a private event. Parking can be a challenge but we did find street parking nearby. The restaurant is on the second level with gorgeous views or in an open courtyard or patio. There is indoor seating but even in the evening it was too warm. The menu isn’t huge but offer good variety. Prices are fair for the experience. We found service slow but that was typical of the island.

We were so impressed with this restaurant that we dined there twice during our week-long island stay. The hostess's exceptional hospitality shone through when she thoughtfully accommodated our request for balcony seating after another party didn't show up. The food was both delicious and reasonably priced, and the harbor views provided a stunning backdrop to our meals. Based on our wonderful experiences, I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting the island.

Amazing experience all throughtout! 10/10 service so attentive and rapid. Very friendly! Food was absolutely delicious, the local specialties are delicious! The view from the balcony was beautiful but the garden setting was adorable!

I think this was our third visit as everytime we are in Curaçao it is 'mandatory' for me to eat here. I wanted to have dinner on my birthday and they certainly did not disappoint. Alexa took extremely good care of us and she even got a few staff members to come and sing happy birthday to me as she brought the dessert sample plater. Every food item ordered was delicious and we look forward to stop by in our next trip. Outstanding service and quality! 🙌🏻💕

Very good food, but on the pricier side for the island. The atmosphere inside in the courtyard is really chill and we didn’t expect it to be so big. Confusing entrance as there are two restaurants very close to each other! The captain is a different one.

And then hereby the official review of the beloved gouverneur. We went in unbiased as we really didn’t want to get our hopes up. What follows is an objective review of the establishment. All the loving reviews are from people who simply enjoy their holiday and food from a nice location. The food itself is not spectacular in anyway, even a bit old fashioned. We had the geen egg steak, which was ok (requested med rare, which was not the case though). The local fish of the day was boring and not cooked properly. (The skin was soggy and not crispy) and the home made apple pie was misspelled. Should have said, home made 4 days ago. Portion size was good, additional fries were lukewarm. And the mayonaise cheap factory made. The service was really quick, but lacked personal touch and knowledge on the food. I asked how many grams the steak would come in, they responded with; “it’s just a lapje vlees” The wine was expensive and really like any other you can find in your local pub, not good. The atmosphere on the restaurant was good en vibrant. And of course stunning views over the waterfront. All in all it is just another big tourist restaurant with a mediocre food(although better than real tourist traps) on a good location. Would I recommend anyone to go there? Yes, if you do not care about good food or service it is a nice but expensive place to visit. Never ever will I send someone there for the amazing food experience that some reviews dare to post.
