How a New Generation of Locavores Is Championing France’s Luberon Valley

"That night, at La Fontaine: Maison Méditerranéenne in Villars, owners Jean Bergougnoux and Roxane Gleizal shared their own Luberon origin story. “We were looking for a restaurant in a Provençal village because we had the desire to become fully integrated with their community,” said Gleizal. After buying the property last spring, they reached out to friends, including Kvan and Monteleon, and drove around talking to local farmers, winemakers, and cheesemongers."

This is one of the best restaurants in France I’ve been. It’s not posh, rather casual.. owner stuff are so friendly.. they speak French English and Italian. You feel very welcome here ♥️ Food and wine list are absolutely amazing. You should visit this place even if it’s a separate trip or a detour.

Tuesday lunchtime and the restaurant was full, always a good sign. Perhaps better to come early if you like are on a schedule as it was some 45 minutes before we were able to place our order. Another good tip if you want the plat du jour is to pre order it as when we went to order it was sold out The food was absolutely fantastic , lovely flavours and beautifully presented, quite small portions but great quality

Fantastic cyclists retreat at the top of a steep hill on a hot day. A wonderful family restaurant with a creative menu and delicious local wines - a warm welcome too. Could not recommend more highly!

We were three men looking for a nice place to have a mid-day meal for our wives in honor of Mother's Day. La Fontaine met and exceeded all expectations. Service and food were spectacular, and our meal turned out to be one of the highlights of our one week stay in Provence. The dessert was especially noteworthy. Kudos to the chef and staff. If we are ever back in Provence, we will come back!

Great food, excellent friendly staff and a nice position in a small town. Good selection of interesting local wines as well. Worth a visit.

Jean and Roxane have created a superb space on the square in Villars. We arrived and enjoyed delicious local beer and rosé followed by a 3 course meal (Menu €38) with 2 choices per course plus cheese (supplement €7), we very happy that we could swap the cheese for dessert. We also did a wine pairing with our meal (€20 supplement) which I highly recommend as the wines are from nearby producers and were perfect with each dish. The food was delicious and locally sourced where possible. Burrata gorgeously matched with courgette and melt in the mouth tuna to start. The duck breast was a little over cooked for me but all the other flavours on the plate made up for it. Our waiter was friendly, charming and spoke fluent English. The owners are hands-on and so welcoming. We could see the kitchen staff through the door from the terrace, all cheerful and joking with each other so it seems like a very happy place all around. The terrace was beautifully lit, the tables were full of satisfied clientele. All in all a perfect evening. I highly recommend you stop by for a bite. Thank you so much!

One of our favourites in the Luberon! Great family team and always super friendly. Menu is fresh and local and a wonderful wine selection. It is often very full so definitely reserve in advance and enjoy the nice terrace and the atmosphere.
