How to spend a weekend in Phnom Penh - SilverKris

"I enjoyed lunch at the Phnom Penh outpost of Cuisine Wat Damnak: set in a restored 1950s villa with a garden, the dining experience is peaceful, sophisticated and elegant, echoing the acclaim of its Siem Reap namesake." - Jonathan Evans

Cuisine Wat Damnak - SilverKris

"Dreamt up by French chef-patron Joannès Rivière and established in 2011, this wooden-house fine-diner — now with a sister restaurant in Phnom Penh — became Cambodia’s sole representative on the Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants list in 2015 and 2016 and has since attracted a fanatical, niche following. Named after the picturesque village it occupies, the restaurant stages intimate soirées overseen by co-owner/director and journeyman chef Nguon “Chai” Vengcchay, who keeps the adventurous fusion tasting menus firmly rooted in Khmer produce while preserving a surprise element through unlikely but consistently delectable flavour combinations." - SilverKris

Like a ‘Best of Cambodian ingredients’, all wonderfully presented. Food combinations brought with finesse and with some surprising tastes. The red wines could use a bit more room temperature, but don’t let it hold you back - great experience.

An exceptional meal with fantastic service. I had the vegan tasting menu and my husband had the regular tasting menu. Delicious dishes, with innnovative flavours using local ingredients. We were blown away by this wonderful restaurant and friendly service. Thank you for an unforgettable meal!

As frequent travelers from NYC, we’re always on the lookout for the next great meal. Unfortunately, our dinner didn’t quite hit the mark. The presentations were amazing, but the taste was a bit off. Honestly, it might have been the local flavors that we weren’t used to. After having enjoyed local cuisines from over 90 countries, it was tough to think that the entire tasting menu didn’t hit the spot for me, except for the dessert. The anniversary dessert was a nice touch. But hey, don’t take my word for it! Go ahead and try it for yourself.

I was here for the 5 course set lunch. Environment is good, good to talk with friends, and mindful eating. Services is nice, but I think the food can come more slowly as I am expecting fine dining. Food is fair, but with the price, there would be better choices around.

Absolutely stunning restaurant with excellent food and service! Went there for the set lunch menu and returned a few days later for the festive new year’s tasting menu. Everything was impeccable, and the taste profiles were amazing! The fish dishes were probably the best of the lot, with the scallop cookery just perfect. My group had different desserts and all were fantastic - I dare say the passion fruit mousse was so good I would have easily gone for another one if offered. The staff were very attentive and the timing of the dishes was flawless. A big compliment to all!

Best meal in Phnom Penh! Had a set lunch 3 courses for USD$16 where every dish was beautifully crafted and tasty. Food was served very quickly, service was great. Desserts were particularly good. Perhaps the best value meal I’ve eaten in my life. Walked in 1h ahead of reservation time and there were seats (online said there wasn’t any), so do try walking in.

Fine dining South East Asian / Khmer cuisine. They serve either 6 course or 8 course meal. My daughter and I chose 6 & 8 course meal since my daughter wanted to try the local cuisine. You can see heavy French influence on the cuisine and loved the fresh ingredients and how they managed to create a such bold flavour. Desserts here are also excellent. Ensure to try the 8 courses if you are an adult and although they do have a kids meal I would rather choose 6 courses as it isn't too spicy and all ingredients are very fresh. Also, staffs here are very kind so 5 stars on the service.

I went there once, as it’s just around the corner from my school. I was looking for somewhere to grab a bite since I had another class to get to, and I happened upon this restaurant. Loads of foreign customers were in for lunch. As it turns out, the food is absolutely brilliant and rather tasty. Most of the menu is geared towards vegetarians, which is quite lovely.
