We continued our tradition of eating at every historical place or museum in Europe and this one was the best. The food was exquisite, but the atmosphere makes the food taste even better. How impressive is this dining hall?! The food was divine from the cheese souffle to the duck pomentier and the secret dessert. Loved it all. Service was great as well. No reservations, so get there early and get in line. It's worth it.

The main course was the best, we had Normandy style fish and Cod fitters. Deducting one star because the dessert was not good, we had chefs special chocolate filled with passion fruit. It was just sweet. The interior was excellent and gave a royal ambience. No booking, just a queue which grows longer between 13:00-14:00.

Google
Fantastic! We went there on Thursday night with the late opening ticket. The main course, sea bass, is delicious, and the price is reasonable. The champagne and dessert are also good. The waiter is professional and friendly. This is going to be my must-visit whenever I visit Paris!

Google
What a fantastic place inside Musée d'Orsay! The Musée d'Orsay Restaurant is a stunning tribute to French culture inside the former train station. While exploring the museum, we wanted to take a break and stumbled upon this eatery. We decided to give it a try, and we loved it! We ordered a simple dessert with some refreshments, and they were perfect. This restaurant is adorned with frescoes by Gabriel Ferrier and Benjamin Constant, which make it awe-inspiring; chandeliers on the painted ceiling and gilding gave us a unique and unforgettable experience.

Wonderful restaurant in the Musee! Fantastic staff, delicious pastries and most of all beautiful atmosphere

Google
Convenient place to get some decent food while visiting the D'Orsay museum. Food is just average, but the ambience is spectacular. They use a highly processed chicken finger in the caesar salad. Seafood dish had a strong fish smell.

Liz Glover

Google
Definitely worth going for lunch. Stunning room and fabulous service, just lower your expectations with the food. One of us had the cod which was nice, but the Caesar salad was not good, overly dressed no egg or bacon and just not good. But you do somewhat forget that as the room is so stunning and the staff are fabulous

Google
It's a pretty room. It's in the museum. If you don't get there early you're going to wait in a long line. The food is mediocre, at least mine was, dry, overcooked, and bland. The French couple sitting next to me both sent their dishes back to the kitchen. I heard the man say that his food was cold. I didn't hear what the woman said, but regardless they both sent their dishes back. Prices are appropriate, not cheap but appropriate. I'm not sure whether I would return or not. It would depend on how hungry I was and how much I wanted to stay in the museum. Service was pleasant.

Yelp
I remembered how impressed I was last time in Paris with the beauty of this museum restaurant and wanted to share with a friend on my recent visit. The restaurant t is as gorgeous as ever- stunning actually. The food is good- not sensational, yet worth it for the experience. The service was quite adequate & efficient. I loved having a very nice glass of champagne with my meal- a must really. I recommend trying this cafe at least once - especially if you're visiting the fabulous museum.

Yelp
When I stopped by for lunch at The Restaurant du Musée D'Orsay, I was impressed by the beautiful setting. Crystal chandeliers, beautiful white walls with ornate detailing. I was Surprised, however, by the inexpensive cafeteria-type table and plexiglass looking chairs. Inharmonious. There is an extensive variety on the à la carte portion of the menu or you can opt for a prix fixe meal. Since the choices of main (plat) were not to my liking, I chose the Tuesday Dish of the Day (à la carte): chicken with olives, grains and vegetables. When I got my dish, it was a quarter poached chicken, slightly browned on top lentils and lima beans with bits of tomato and other small bits of veggie. Not an olive in sight. Was the olive used in a sauce since this provided the salt element that the chicken was missing? The chicken was slightly dry which was not good (€24). I found the Thé Glacé Maison (house iced tea) to be delicious. A fruity and floral beverage perfectly balanced in sweetness. Service was very good. The volume of people descending on the restaurant is immense. I give a hand to the serving équipe (team). They kept their cool with a variety of French and non-French speaking patrons. Overall: Food 3.5 stars Service 4 stars Ambiance: 3.5 stars I would return and try some other main dish.

Yelp
If only I had looked up 'Terrine' before ordering, I would have saved myself a surprise. Turns out, Pork Terrine is similar to 'Head Cheese'-- something my dad would eat, but the rest of us wouldn't touch. On the bright side, the room is stunning, and the chairs are cheerfully festive. A feast for the eyes, if not for the taste buds!

Jessica H.

Yelp
Terrible service, after an hour we never received our meal and our waiter did not care at all. Too bad because the setting is so lovely.

Pig P.

Yelp
I found the waiter we had bumbling and incompetent so I cannot recommend this place. You may or may not get what you order, they didn't check back to see if everything was ok. I didn't get my order at all. I did get a few scraps from my friends who took pity upon me. They kept saying my food was on the way, but it never came. No one apologized. Overall a pretty miserable experience to have in a pretty setting.

Erinn P.

Yelp
Is this food the best I had in Paris? No. Was it overpriced? Yeah, somewhat, but I'd expect that. Was the service good? Absolutely! Atmosphere? Excellent! Would I eat here again? Next time I'm at this museum, sure. I opted for the entrée and main prix fixe menu with a Caeser salad and lamb shank. The salad was good, but nothing special. The lamb shank was huge, and kinda dry. I didn't end up finishing it. I also ordered the patisserie of the day - a mille feuille. That was the star - thick, slightly salty layers of pastry and a rich cream. Really you eat here because you're at the museum, though. I wouldn't go here just for this restaurant. Also, be prepared to wait for a table. The dining room is large, but meals are meant to be enjoyed in France, so the tables take time to turn over.

Jessica S.

Yelp
Sans surprise trop cher, cependant j'ai assez aimé mon café viennois et l'acceuil était sympa. Pratique si vous voulez passer toute la journée au musée

Sarah G.

Yelp
A beautiful place to have lunch before seeing the museum! I enjoyed the petit chicken Caesar salad and it was delicious, the fresh Parmesan was sooo good! And overall the salad was very refreshing. The restaurant got crowded quickly, so I recommend going a little early to beat the lunch rush.

Andrew S.

Yelp
Definitely would stay away from the food at this museum. Great museum for the price, but the food was extremely overpriced and mediocre in taste! Great price on the wine however... The pasta was mediocre even though we were extremely hungry. You know the food isn't great when you are starving and it doesn't taste any good. However, I was content with the glass of wine and that made up for the food... They have so many tables with only a few servers, takes a while to get anything from drinks to food. Highly recommend the museum, not the museum restaurant.

Jean-Charles N.

Yelp
The food is good. The place is awesome. The service is so so. Especially the lady who placed us.

Lesley F.

Yelp
Beautiful exhibits, beautiful layout. They took an old train station and renovated it in the 80's into a remarkable museum. A must visit in Paris!

Justin V.

Yelp
Go for the ceiling. What 5-Star review starts out with that? Yah, none do. Just walk in saying you are meeting a friend ~ gaze in amazement at the exquisite ceiling ~ and walk back out. I just saved you €60+ a head and 2-hours of time. The services was the only poor service we've received in Paris. I get hands off, but there was literally 60-minutes when we couldn't get anyone to help us ~ told twice "not your server". I hate saying it but for the first time in 27-years I actually considered dining and dashing... The food had a pretty presentation but was bland...well the parts I tried that were actually fully cooked. Try anywhere else.

Gayle G.

Yelp
This restaurant is located in the Musee d'Orsay as one of the restaurants. I love the interior. The service and the food are average, but the interior is fantastic and beautiful.

Tcharn C.

Yelp
Ok not badly priced very busy to the point where your always in a queue. I'd only visit if your really into art.

Andrew P.

Yelp
If you happen to be at Musee d'Orsay, you NEED to stop by this restaurant! Not particularly for the food. We did the 3 course. The only thing that stood out was the desert, the yogurt with fruit was the best thing on the menu. The service was good, but the waiter absolutely refused to speak english to us. It didn't really bother us though because he practically knew what we wanted. Im sure he knows english. But the best part of the restaurant is the actual room its self. There was so much painting on the walls, the decorations was amazing.

John E.

Yelp
So I've eaten here several times. And I have to say for a restaurant inside a museum the service is great the coffee is awesome, and the food is really good. Plus your eating just a few feet from a bunch of multi million dollar paintings... I mean, how cool is that? If you happen to go to the Orsay get a cup of coffee, or a drink. Relax while you're here it's an awesome place.

Hadiza A.

Yelp
Decor: luxe Service: lax Food: la di da I wanted to feel posh and we were already at the musée so... The dining space is full of light and gilded gold. The chairs are poppy coloured Lucite. The ceilings are da Vinci stylay. Service took several beats after sitting. I was nodded at and ignored for a bit. I had lentils accented with mustard which was...different. I can't recall my main, it was that memorable. The bread was good, the wine was bright. For destination dining, doing the musée, would go again.

Richard C.

Yelp
Fish was previously frozen. Vegetables were undercooked. Service was very slow. Waiters were arrogant. Prices were high. The best thing about this restaurant was the elegance of the room itself. So if you want to enjoy this elegant setting, I suggest you order a glass of wine.

Ryo Hanalei Z.

Yelp
I came back to Paris, this time with my mom, it was her first time in Europe and I wanted her to experience what I had my first time in this wonderful city. After her tour of of the Musée D'Orsay, I treated her to lunch in this wonderful amazing restaurant on the second floor. This beautifully decorated restaurant will leave you a very wonderful dining experience that you won't forget. The staff is very friendly and is very attentive. From the furniture, the elegant chandeliers, the painted ceilings with eye to details is incongruous enough to keep your eyes wandering to soak in every bit. There's a 3 course special you can order from that includes the special of the day, or "Plat Du Jour". I order the chicken caesar salad, mom order the asparagus soup. For the main dish: I ordered the roast chicken with sweet peppers & mom ordered the "Plat Du Jour"; sea bass on rice. The starter was amazing and simple, clean and basic flavors that when put together is complex. Even the presentation is picture worthy. The main dish was just as amazing! The meats cooked to perfection and just enough vegetable condiments to bring it all together. For dessert; chocolate mousse on hazelnut nougat and the chocolate eclair. Perfect! With wine and beer, the whole meal was a great! Spend the early half of your day at the Musée D'Orsay but make your lunch in the restaurant part of your experience. I promise, you won't regret it! Bon Appetit! :)

Yelp
This restaurant is beautiful!! I loved the decor. We specifically picked this place because it didn't feature frog legs/sweetbreads. We were looking for normal cuts of meat: chicken, beef. We ordered white wine to start and it was good but a little dry. For dinner, I had the chicken with rice/ vegetables in a white sauce, my mom has the steak with fries and my dad had the fish. We all really enjoyed our meals! The chicken was tender and delicious. I really liked it. The fries that came with my mom's meal were super good as well! We all really enjoyed the food. If you're looking for a more normal menu, come here!

Yew L.

Yelp
Love the foods and place. We had duck confit, beef tartare and a spaghettis (kid's meal that comes with an ice cream) for my boy. All are very delicious. Our waiter is attentive given how busy the place is. We went early (right after they opened) to avoid the line.

Vena V.

Yelp
This review is for the restaurant, on the second floor, not the cafe on the cafe on the 4th floor. We ate at both and the restaurant is much better than the cafe. The sea bream in tumeric sauce with fried garlic and a side of cooked fennel topped with sliced fresh fennel was excellent. The lamb shank was good. The eclair was delicious. The service is very, very slow, so be sure not to be time pressured. The room and ceiling are "belle epoque" - painted, fancy and their own kind of lovely.

Eric D.

Yelp
The restaurant at the Musée d'Orsay has kept its original charm since opening in 1900. The simplicity of the new layout emphasizes the sparkling chandeliers, painted ceilings and gold features of the restaurant, listed as a historical monument. The food is decent but it is not you what you will remember... obviously it will be the decor.

Patricia B.

Yelp
You would think that such a tourist place with large crowds would have a lousy restaurant- but, not at the Orsay! It's probably because virtually any restaurant in Paris is pretty terrific and the French have national pride in their cuisine. We visited on a typical busy day, but were seated right away and had wonderful courteous service. All our party's dishes were delightful and well prepared. The bouillabaisse is exceptional and well worth the effort. And, of course, it's only natural to end the meal with creme brûlée! Since the museum takes many hours to absorb - planning a pleasant break for lunch at the Orsay restaurant is perfect.

Amanda D.

Yelp
I love the decor at this restaurant! This restaurant made the perfect date night. Come have dinner here when the museum is open late then stroll around the museum. Food here is better than most museum food.

Grace Y.

Yelp
Eh. I guess it's museum food, so what did I expect? The fish was so bland that we were all adding salt and pepper to it. But the restaurant is very beautiful - I'll give it that.

Nola G.

Yelp
This restaurant is all about the ambience. Located on Level 2, the restaurant is very elegant and ornate. I simply stopped to have an afternoon coffee and pastry because the line was too long at the Level 5 Cafe Campana. This building was originally a railroad train station and was inaugurated in 1900 and later abandoned. In 1985, the Musée d'Orsay was inaugurated. This restaurant gives a vibe of grandeur. A great escape from the crowds. Service was friendly.

Anna C.

Yelp
Probably one of my favorite restaurants. Nested inside of Musée d'Orsay, it is beautifully painted and decorated with French opulence. The ground to ceiling windows were absolutely stunning. After you've placed your order, make sure to look up to adore the beautiful artwork in the ceiling and look at all the chandeliers along the dining room. Service was really wonderful. Our waitress was very nice and food was delicious! After a pleasant break, we went right back to indulge into more beautiful artwork.

ben r.

Yelp
Ok perhaps not a 4 star but the ambiance is deserving. The beef b was actually very good especially with the wine but the special dish of the day of gnocchi and fish was not too good to say the least but with the oval all experiential of the place of the ambiance it's well worth it especially if you want to have a pit stop to savor the moment.

Liz M.

Yelp
Lovely ambiance, however the cuisine was just ok, servings small and overpriced. As for service, they never checked on us even once, and we had to flag a waiter down for more drinks, etc. Difference in service standards is expected when comparing Europe with US. Ditto for serving portions. However, this was pricey and thus the 3 stars.

Paul B.

Yelp
This is a special place. The food here is very good, but not the best in Paris. However the room is AMAZING. It is dining in a palace ballroom and will make you feel like royalty. Or at least like you were invited to eat with royalty. I had a smoked salmon tart. It was small and served on a thin pastry crust on a bed of broccoli purée. Sandra had the daily special of chicken and fettucini. It was very lightly flavored and she was disappointed but I think it was as intended. Service was good. This is a popular place so expect a line. Their price fixed menu is about €20 and includes a main and fancy dessert. Not a bad deal.

Eowyn K.

Yelp
I was told that the restaurant was originally where the non-commeners would wait for the train. Since being converted to an art museum the room become a restaurant. It is beautiful, with sparkling chandeliers and large windows with great views. The food however, was the worst I had in Paris. I also felt it was a bit pricey. We had to wait in line as it was busy. Once we were seated the service was slow. I find it frustrating to have to put that much effort into obtaining your check.. My cousin and I had the daily special of chicken with fettuccine with a tomato based sauce. I noticed another reviewer mentioned this same dish and described it as "lightly flavored". We described it as "no flavor". The chicken was cooked fine, it was not dry, the noodles were cooked fine, not overcooked. But that was all. It was so bland neither of us finished. Other members of our group had the fish and chips and the salad. The fish and chips were good. The fish portion was small. I highly recommend the museum (it is amazing) and peek into the room, but eat elsewhere.

Sacha S.

Yelp
The setting: This restaurant is situated on the first floor of the museum and the setting reminded me of some of the rooms of the Versailles museum ... think high painted ceiling, lots of gold and big chandeliers. The seats and tables, verry modern, contrasted with the rest of the room. The food: We ordered 2 times the dessert of the day (you can actually choose which one you liked) and one hot drink for 10,50 euro/person. You can't really call that cheap but seems not unusual for Paris. Friends, when I showed them the picture of the desserts, thought it was a picture of the famous Angelina. I loved the peach-pie. The éclair was a bit to sweet to our tast. The staff: Waiters in fine clean black and white formal outfit. Perfectly helped in English. Would I go again: I'd definitly will try some of the other cakes, pie and éclairs when visiting musée d'Orsay

Charlotte O.

Yelp
The room is utterly gorgeous, make sure you sit near the window to take advantage of the beautiful view. I also had the yummiest Caesar salad and chocolat chaud, a slightly unusual but trés delightful combination. So far so good, but unfortunately it is very pricey, they seem to have got a bit confused that, although they are a beautiful restaurant with very tasty food, they are still situated in a public museum where food should not be that expensive. Hence, me and my partner opted to share the Caesar salad, fortunately it was a pretty decent portion and sufficed as a pleasant alternative to the usual museum cafe option of a pre packed sandwich.

Jay A.

Yelp
Decided to do lunch here yesterday. We were already in the Musee d'Orsay and their main restaurant was convenient. Last time I ate here was about 15 years ago and I had fond memories of the food and ambience. Hence I was looking forward to a special lunch. The place is magnificent with a fantastic view. The staff were exceptional from the moment we arrived on a busy Thursday. Hence this joint would get 5 stars if it were just for ambience and service. However, the food had some challenges. I started my meal off with a cream of mushroom soup. It was not hot enough. At 10 Euros for a bowl of soup they should heat the bowls. The soup also lacked seasoning. It needed salt/pepper and some thyme at minimum. I then had a mushroom salad decorated with bacon. It was a solid 4 star salad I would order again. The bacon was chewy yet the salad was very good. For dessert I enjoyed a classic Mont Blanc. It was a 3 to 4 star example of a Mont Blanc, a dessert I love. I did enjoy it. My lunch partner had the veal. It was awful at 22 Euros. If they brought me the veal I would have sent it back immediately. It was poorly cooked and cut. It was challenging to eat. Would I eat here again? I'm not sure. The location is wonderful when you're already in the Musee d'Orsay; however, the food clearly has challenges.

Kerry J.

Yelp
What a breathtaking restaurant space. Flooded with light and covered in murals and chandeliers, this is a must-see while visiting the museum. Their tea service includes a great deal of a generous portion of cake and a hot beverage for around 8 Euro. I definitely expected the prices to be higher.

Jay L.

Yelp
The food is not great, but it is definitely a beautiful room to dine in. You are definitely paying for the dinning experience. Had the lobster bisque, which did not have much flavor. It was just a soup base, no lobster. Also had the duck burger and thick cut fries, six of them. Not too much flavor in the burger either, I wanted to smother it in ketchup. The dipping sauce for the fries were probably the only thing with flavor, it was pretty good for the six fries, but not enough to use for e burger. I would recommend getting a cup of tea and sitting in the dining area... Eat elsewhere.

Robert R.

Yelp
This restaurant could do so much better. It has a beautiful setting; the food does not measure up. If you must eat here, recommend the liter of Badoit sparkling water and something cold - maybe a salad. When we had lunch, there seemed to be a disconnect getting food from kitchen to table while it was still reasonably warm. Soup arrived tepid, at best. Noodles with the veal dish were just this side of cold. Fish and chips: three fish sticks and a small cone of fries - long out of the fryer. We will not be back.

Valerie N.

Yelp
My guidebook recommended this spot for lunch and I figured, we could give it a whirl since it was convenient to our itinerary. We walked in and were immediately greeted and seated. First off, its absolutely jaw-dropping beautiful in this restaurant. The ceiling is luxuriously painted - I spent the bulk of my lunch just looking up! There are also several lovely statues situated throughout the restaurant. The chandeliers are also quite stunning! The menu isn't extensive, and to me, isn't particularly french, but since this is a touristy place, I assume they're catering to the palates of a touristy crowd. No problem with me! I was pleased to see several reasonably priced menu options. I quickly settled on the 22 euro appetizer+main combo, selecting the caesar salad and mushroom risotto. I also ordered an iced tea to go with it, which ended up being extremely refreshing after our long walk from the Opera House to the d'Orsay (via a stop at Place de la Concorde and l'Orangerie). The petite caesar salad was a surprise. First off, its HUGE! It also came with grilled chicken. It wasn't the best caesar I've ever had, but after that long walk, it was refreshing and delicious and I ate the whole thing. Hubby and I easily could have split it and I wish we had, just to save some euros. My mushroom risotto was tasty - again, not the best I ever had, but great fuel for our day of museum trekking. Hubby won the prize - he ordered the fish and chips, which may have been the best I've ever had outside of Ireland. The fish was delicately battered and fried, but had terrific flavor and crunch to it. The fries were also super tasty, and oddly enough, wrapped in Obama newspaper articles. Hmm. Both main courses were huge, and again, very splittable. They offer carafes of water, so if you're looking to save some euro, don't get the bottled water - just get the carafe! Service was so-so. I think that they were understaffed for a Saturday as it was clear that our waitress had too many tables to manage. For this reason, it wasn't the speediest of lunches, but the beautiful ambience really made me not want to rush anyway. I would definitely recommend this cafe if you've planned a super duper busy museum day! Yelp
We had 2 choices. Le Restaurant on level 2 of the Musee D'Orsay or the cafe on level 0. Another sandwich? Not for this couple. We went to Le Restaurant at the top of Musee D'Orsay and we ordered: Grilled rib steak and frites Sole with gnocchi and pine nuts This would have gotten 4 stars had it not for the overly chewy and tough steak. I get that the rib steak [or rib eye] would be marbly, but surely it would also be tender and rich with flavor? I guess not. There were a lot of tendon in the steak and my wife had a tough time cutting it. The sole, however, was nicely prepared with a sprinkle of sea salt on top with some pine nuts. Had that steak been better, this would have gotten a higher rating. But still, it wasn't sandwiches and we had a nice lunch in one of the BEST museums in the world. Service was attentive and it was crowded. Atmosphere was lively and it was a great way to experience the museum more than the wonderful collection of arts.

David S.

Yelp
The French onion soup was a bit "oniony". I had some baked cod which was decent but my colleague did not like the fried fish and it didn't look all that good. The service and beer was good.

Caroline V.

Yelp
The restaurant itself is beautiful and features lovely views of the Paris skyline. My husband ordered a caesar salad and I had the chicken dumplings. Both were quite good, but the portions were small considering the relatively high price. It's pretty much what we expected for a museum restaurant, but I still think a 17e salad should be decently sized. What really turned me off was the waiter explaining to us twice how to leave a tip. The way he said we should/could leave a tip was so confident that we doubted what we'd read and thus far experienced in France and agreed to leave a 10% tip. After we left and had a chance to research whether we were wrong about the custom, it seems as though he had us pegged as an easy target from which to wrangle an extra large tip.

Yanyan H.

Yelp
Beautiful restaurant, obviously a must-see if you're in Paris. Overpriced food, we had a foie gras tartine that was not what I expected and was rather disgusting to be honest. The bottle of champagne that we had was very nice and came iced. I'd go back just for a glass of wine.

Sarah W.

Yelp
Gorgeous space, decent food. You definitely pay for the privilege of eating at the museum. Or possibly for the privilege of not having to wait in the security line a second time had you left. That's fine. Most museum restaurants are a bit pricey. But given how knock you on your ass fantastic most of the things we ate in Paris were, this was one of my least memorable meals of the trip. Add in a few hiccups with the service, and we're solidly in 3 star territory.

Ann W.

Yelp
This elegant museum restaurant offers a welcome break to weary art lovers. Although the al la carte menu looked good, the formula of the day offered a main and dessert for 16 Euros which was a bargain in such a nice spot with full waiter service. We had well cooked white fish in a light creamy sauce with Dill and a small mound of Gnocchi flavoured with a little Tomato and Pancetta. The serve was ample for lunch especially as it was followed by an Iles de Flottantes or a chocolate Brownie. A glass of Muscadet and an espresso rounded out a very acceptable meal. Payment was at the table and although crowded the wait staff coped admirably.

Kelly Z.

Yelp
This review is for the service as the food is pretty decent but not comparable to a lot of restaurants in Paris. The table next to me was being asked to pay tips. Anyone in Paris shouldn't have to pay for tips because they are included in the bill. However they try to scam the group by pointing to some random french words saying that they already mention in the receipt that tips are not included. Because I haven't paid yet I thought we will have to do the same. After we paid and they didn't ask us, I realized they were lying to the group next to us. So be warned! Don't pay them extra tips!

Haydy S.

Yelp
This is a must if you're in the museum! The food is simply divine, as is the decor. Make sure you get a window seat so you can look out over Paris. The group of 6 that I was with were all highly impressed with their dishes, and we had a great variety between us. It is quite pricey, but with the decor, views and lush food, it should be expect. You can also book before you go to save queueing.

John S.

Yelp
It has cafeteria ambience, but... My wife still talks about the orange tart that she had there. For all the fine dining we enjoyed in Paris, that tart lingers in her mind to this day. I wish I had a recipe!

Forest B.

Yelp
This restaurant had terrible service, even the manager was rude. The view is beautiful but save your money. The salmon starter is excellent, but the chicken main dish was bland. Take a picture of the pretty room, and move on.
