This is an expensive restaurant that actually serves cuisine, so I'm actually going to type quite a long review since Envy deserves it.
Went here on a date during Restaurant Week and thoroughly enjoyed my meal. We ordered the chef's tasting menu and received 5 courses.
First came a delicious cauliflower flan with truffle oil. So savory, silky, and salty. I think this was my favorite dish in the menu.
Next was the white asparagus with pork. Again, so salty and delicious. The asparagus was super tender and not bitter at all. There was also a rich sauce decorating the plate, which I made sure to sop up as much as I could.
Our last savory dish was an Angus steak with some sort of grain underneath it. It was very good, but since I'm not a huge steak lover, I can't rave about it like some others could.
Next came the desserts. The first one we received was a sort of Pina Colada in a martini glass. It had red bell pepper, mint, and cilantro atop a coconut foam, all of which rested on top of an icy pineapple slush. The foam was rich and tasty, but I really didn't like all the spice flavors in a dessert dish.
Then ANOTHER dessert came (at this point, I was actually quite full, and I'm a big eater) which I liked much more. In the center was a rhubarb ice cream, accompanied by rhubarb chunks, cake, sweet wheels of pink gelatin, and tiny dots of vanilla pudding. This dessert was much more appealing to me even though the sweet was cut through with plenty of tart rhubarb flavor.
Ok, so we know the food will be good at a joint like this, so let's talk about the environment. First of all, this place was very loud. The design is dark and sexy, but there's nothing sexy about yelling to your dining partner. Mood killer. The seating is divided into a long communal table on the right and small booth/tables on the left. My partner and I were in for a long haul with our tasting menu and both wished we had sat at the tables because the chairs at the long communal table are only back less stools. If you need back support, be sure to request a table in your reservation. The overall ethos of the joint was surprisingly casual. I wouldn't wear sneakers here, but even jeans would be acceptable if dressed up sufficiently.
Overall, great food and attentive staff. Definitely great if you're in the mood to celebrate and splurge on a delicious meal, but not so stuffy that you'd have to bust out your finest jewelry.
