This is German food in its best traditional style. Spatula, pork shoulder, red cabbage. All was very good and the atmosphere is comfortable. There were also very accommodating in changing selection so that I can have spetzele.

Absolutely stunning and cosy restaurant. Great food too. So glad we stumbled upon this place at Christmas time; the decorations were top notch and it created the perfect Christmas atmosphere.

This is unfortunately a tourist trap. We came here with a reservation on Christmas. Unfortunately, I cant recommend this restaurant. Food tasted re-heated and lacked flavor. I’m not even sure how else to describe it, except that I can pretty much guarantee, chances are you will be served better food somewhere else. Prices are about 20-30% higher than at comparable venues. Quality and service do not justify this difference. In fact, service was inattentive, unmotivated and even for German standards impolite.

This restaurant has an incredible atmosphere that truly captures the charm of a traditional German dining experience. From the moment you walk in, it feels cozy, welcoming, and authentic. The food is absolutely amazing. It’s hearty, flavorful, and incredibly satisfying. The menu has a great selection of classic dishes, and no matter what I order, it keeps me coming back again and again. Between the atmosphere and the consistently excellent food, this place is a must-visit for anyone looking for an authentic and memorable German meal.

Just had an amazing meal here, however little bit annoyed as went in at lunch time to book table for that evening and was told not to worry just turn up, we did this and only had a table for 1 hour so ruined it a bit as could have spent longer here, so my advice is book before as it gets very busy. However, the food was amazing, our waitress spoke excellent english and told us about the local dishes and i went with her recommendation of the pork shoulder, sauerkaut and potatoe dumpling (basically mash pot mixed with flour to make it stoggy), it was all excellent the meat just fell off the bone and the gravy/sauce was very tasty, we also had red cabbage aswell which i would recommend. The others in the party had steak which they were happy with and the 3rd had beef brisket which was not like it is back home, it was a slice of beef with side of boiled potoes in oil, very dry the meat and oil made pots soggy so that was a disappointment but not because it was cooked awful but because it just wasnt what we expected. I would highly recommend you listen to the dishes they recommend. Our waitress also recommend a red beer which we would not have known about so again great to try something new, hubby says it was very nice. The restaurant itself had a lovely atmosophe and great decor, very traditional. All in all i thought it was excellent and would go back, but i would book ahead this time. 😣 FYI toilets are downstairs and you have to go up quite a few steps to enter resturant so if someone in party needs lift/ramps i would recommend you ring and ask as i didnt see any.

One of the best and oldest restaurants in town if you want to taste the authentic Bavarian cuisine!

We visited this restaurant on New Year's Eve with a 9 PM reservation. The Good: The décor was lovely and captured the character and style of Nuremberg beautifully – it felt authentically German and created a nice atmosphere. Our server was polite and friendly. Mixed Experience: The food was okay but not particularly memorable. Both main dishes and the dessert were decent but somewhat average – nothing special, though not bad either. One Concern: The one thing that affected our experience was that we felt somewhat rushed during our meal. Despite having a 9 PM reservation, there seemed to be an indirect expectation to finish up and leave fairly quickly. It made us a bit uncomfortable about lingering, even though we had booked a table. For New Year's Eve, we had hoped for a more relaxed dining experience. Would I recommend it? It's an okay choice if you appreciate the traditional German atmosphere, but the food and service could be better.

Service and ambiance was great! We were a bit disappointed with both the food and beer but that might be subjective. We had no redervation and were seated spontaneously and quickly. While eating we were left undisturbed to enjoy our meal - which was a nice surprise for introverts who dispise the constant check-ins mid-bite 😝 Steak seemed off unfortunately.. maybe an unlucky piece, was very fatty and oily but not in a juicy/full way. Staff was very friendly, no complaints. The price was adequate given the location. Tasty salad with herbs, salt and vinegar! Potato salad was nice too.

Yelp
This German restaurant reminds me of the traditional restaurants. The service is excellent. The food is excellent. I enjoyed each time. I went there during my stay in Nuremberg. We went three times and each time was a pleasant experience.

Yelp
This is one of the best restaurants I have ever eaten in. The food is outstanding, the service is even better. I have been going there since I was a young boy. 50 years I still go there whenever I am in Nürnberg!!

Yelp
Great ambiance inside one of the bridges of Nuremberg that cross the Pegnitz. Beautiful interior for a place that was constructed in the 1200s. I had schnitzle and she had the pork and beef loins over vegetables and spätzle. They both were tasty in traditional German fare styles. The reviews that rate these dishes bad have expectations that are simply too high. This city is about memorializing those lost to one of the worst atrocities ever to occur and the city has done a fantastic job of turning a frown upside down. The food here at this restaurant is just fine, filling, homemade and hot. The service was terrific with friendly staff and much attention paid to the guests. The views inside the restaurant are great, I would surely not say avoid it! Pricier than some for sure but only by a few Euro per plate. Try the Apple fritter dessert, really yummy!

Yelp
I was in Nuremberg for a trip over winter and wanted to grab a bite of authentic German food. This place is located right in the center of town near the cathedral! Inside is very rustic. The menu is very basic offering special dishes from the region. I tried the spatzel, pork shoulder, and sausages. Each dish was very well prepared and delicious! The service was quick and friendly as well!

Yelp
Amazing feeling being inside of what was originally a local hospital...since the 1200s!!! The beauty of cities like this is that you can be having lunch in some mental hospital and dinner at a former jail from the medieval times. The stories these bricks can tell!!! I have to say I was super excited of the idea of having dinner by the river in this super nice restaurant, very classic, dark and as Germanesque as you can get. I was walking the beautiful streets post long day of workshop with my colleague and we did not go to a 'tourist trap'...but ended up in one. A nice one, but still, it looks like no locals having dinner there, mostly large group of business men (and I say men because that is all you could see: men and meat meat and more meat). Meat and potatoes seems to be the favorite items of German cuisine, so I ordered the Cordon bleu and it was good but not to die for overall. Still, I was there more for the location by the river and the history of the restaurant than by the food. I guess the best time to go is during Christmas as the market is set just right there and seems very pretty. I also heard by others that the summer gets very lively and probably a great experience for any tourist, like a must go when in Nuremberg.

Yelp
We stopped into this very pretty restaurant during the Christmas market on recommendation of a private guide we had hired to show us the city of Nuremberg. We were a bit concerned entering this cavernous restaurant as there were a LOT of tables set up for large groups-like 10, 16 and 20. As we arrived early (but without a reservation) we were seated at a tiny round table surrounded by a tables ready for some of these groups. Fortunately due to the extreme speed at which the food arrived (under 5 minutes I'd say) we were out before the inevitable noise that I'm sure was to follow. Food wise it was fine, but my wife's grilled pork was merely ok and while I enjoyed the slow-roasted pork shank, the accompanying dumpling and salad were just "ok". Surprisingly for a restaurant that clearly is popular with tour groups, our waiter had very limited English. Given his 20-something age I expected something else-although it wasn't a problem in any way.

Yelp
Delicious!! Must try when you visit Germany!!! Good beer and service. You know it's good when locals go to eat there on a Monday lol

Yelp
We ate here because of its location (right next to the big Christmas market). We were cold and wanted to warm up and get a hearty meal instead of just snacking on street food vendors at the markets. The atmosphere is really perfect, homey in a German way. It's a warm and inviting ambiance that also meets tourists expectations (i.e., this is a very touristy place to dine). The service was fine (if slow), but that's Europe for you! They had a special holiday beer on the menu that only shows up in the winter and it was really good so if you are there during Christmastime, be sure to order it. We were all craving beef and vegetables after a week of eating sausages and potatoes, so we opted for two types of beef (sauerbraten and onion-topped steak). Both were fine but nothing memorable; nothing was truly horrible (although the bland onion soup came close). The salad had that cool German lettuce and was loaded with rye croutons and bacon. The "fried" potatoes were more sauteed and wet than fried and crispy. Certain don't make a point to seek out this restaurant but it's really not that awful if you find yourself in a dining pinch. I'd never want to return, but it is what it is.

Yelp
Food was fine but not outrageously yummy. It's average German foods. Whatever the menu says, that's how they make it. The servers are stern and will not take your BS AND PICKY attitude. They will shake their heads and ask you to find something else you like. The hood thing is that the menu is also in English so you can see what you're getting. Cool place to see the old German style restaurants. Come and enjoy their specialty dishes meat dishes besides bratwurst. Ambiance is nice. Service could use some improvement but then maybe I was just hungry and tires after walking around the Christmas markets. do your best to learn a little German

Yelp
Really touristy restaurant with similarly touristy food. I tried the pork shoulder which came out right away, but the food was barely warm. (It must have been sitting around beforehand.) The pork shoulder was okay but nothing special. The dumpling and sauerkraut on the side were both very mediocre. I was disappointed since I'm quite fond of sauerkraut. Skip this place. I don't recommend at all. It has the kind of ambiance that tourists like as well, cute, traditional decor. Also, this place is pricier than other food options.

Yelp
The food and environment were fantastic! We visited during Christmas, so the decorations in the restaurant made it quite picturesque. I ate the pork knuckle and onion soup and liked them both! My friend ordered the veal schnitzel and french fries, which was GREAT! Pair this with some beer and a table with a view of the river and you're set to have a great night

Yelp
We were in Nuremberg for just one day - the Heilig Geist Spital came highly recommended. True, it's super-touristy and busy. But, the food was also quite tasty and the ambiance was fun. We had sauerbraten and pork knuckle - it's traditional, it's heavy and it's very tasty. Go in with a patient attitude and enjoy it for what it is. We had a great time.

Yelp
Nice location but food and service are horrible. First time food was ok but waiters where yelling at each other and literally threw the food on the table. And got angry when I commented on it. You would wonder why I would go a second time but I hoped it would be better if it wasn't that busy. Luckily I was right. Service was ok but now the food was so so bad. I don't think I have ever had something this disgusting. Camembert was under cooked on the inside and over cooked on the out side (straight from the deep fryer). The cordon blue had nothing to do with a cordon blue. I'm sure my dog wouldn't even eat that and I seriously was worry about my health eating that. Please never go here untill they change owners, waiters and chefs

Yelp
Overpriced and lukewarm service in the heart of old town. It's an attractive restaurant overlooking the river, but you're really paying extra for the tourist-friendly ambiance and location. As an example, Schäufele here is more than 13 EUR, when I've had better for less than 10. This classic Franconian dish is not well represented here: on the dry side, and skin doesn't have a nice crisp. We also tried the cordon bleu here, and it was fried too long, and dry. The wild boar was a positive -- tender and juicy meat -- though also quite pricey. Beer choices are uninspired and also on the pricey side. An annoyance here is the service just isn't that friendly. And despite speaking German, the wait staff still felt it necessary to lie and say service isn't included in the prices. I'm accustomed to the "round up" protocol and am usually on the generous side of rounding to the next increment of 5, but this just turned me off, and I rounded up less than normally would have.

Yelp
Amazing food, wonderful list of whatever you like, (beer, wine, spirits) and a historical place that evokes a peaceful, relaxing feeling so you can truly enjoy your dining experience. Service is multi lingual and is happy to help you enjoy your experience in Nuernberg. A special place to relax and have a great meal. A historic landmark not to be missed.

Yelp
Authentic German cuisine in a former bank built over the Pignitz river near the Frauen Kirche. Excellent food and atmosphere.

Yelp
The food is pretty much okay but its so expensive. Also the waiters were not polite AT ALL. They are lucky to be in one of the best spots in the old town and have a very nice interior, typical German.
google avatar

Yelp
You're in Germany, so you better go for the local cuisine! This is the place to go to! The restaurant breaths the typical German atmosphere. Wooden tables, not so comfy seats, but very friendly waiters! You can order the local specialties or go for something like a schnitzel. All very nice!

Yelp
what a history in this place. one side heads the main river in Nuremberg. they have a good local beer. i'd recommend the liver soap and above all the ubber ales meal in No. 53, check the picture. Can get noisy and crowded when Messe has a fair. but it worth the wait... enjoyyyy!
google avatar

Yelp
Good example of southern German cuisine. The atmosphere is very fun and the place has amazing history. Very busy and crowded, but otherwise fun place to visit, though there are better places to eat in Nuremberg.

Yelp
We were forced to come here as our river boat cruise itinerary was disrupted due to low water levels. Absolutely the worst food I have ever tasted. It's amazing that a place with food this bad can stay in business. Yes, the location is great and the interior is majestic in a German castle sort of way, but everything from the bread to the sausages was miserable. Do yourself a favor and avoid.

Richard B.

Yelp
Good food ruined by a horrible wait staff. The waiter kept pushing super expensive, and disgusting, German wines. Go there for the food, but make sure you speak German or they will try to take advantage of you

Yelp
Extensive menu, upscale decor, pleasant ambiance. There is an outdoor patio for dining, too. The wide range of bratwursts are delicious, but the pork shoulder was terrific; flavorful, tender meat with crispy skin.

Kwnstantina L.

Yelp
Only the decoration was good. The food wasnt good at all and now we have all problem with our stomachs. Also the prices were really high.
