When I tell you the views from Hotel Porto Roca are stunning, I mean truly breathtaking. This beautiful hotel sits high on a cliff overlooking the Cinque Terre coastline to the east and the charming village of Monterosso al Mare to the west. From sunrise to sunset, every moment feels like a dream — the kind of view you’ll remember forever.|Yes, Cinque Terre is known for its incredible scenery, but I’m convinced this is the best view in the entire region. I spent hours at the infinity pool and hot tub, completely mesmerized by the panorama. The pizza at the pool bar was fabulous — simple, fresh, and full of flavor.|The breakfast deserves its own mention — truly the best breakfast I had in all of Italy. Everything was fresh, beautifully presented, and served with genuine warmth. It was the perfect way to start each day while taking in that unforgettable view.|The staff were amazing — so kind, professional, and always willing to go above and beyond. The restaurant was above average, though with so many fantastic dining options down in town, it’s fun to explore.|And let me tell you, the bed and pillows were by far the most comfortable I had in Italy — and I’m a high-maintenance sleeper! I slept so well every night, which made our stay even more relaxing.|The shuttle service was another highlight — after an evening of dinner and drinks in town, the friendly drivers were always happy to pick us up at the bottom and bring us back up the hill. It made everything so easy and enjoyable.|I highly recommend Hotel Porto Roca to anyone visiting Cinque Terre — but be warned, they sell out fast! Don’t say I didn’t warn you. This place is pure paradise, and I can’t wait to come back.

This place is worth every penny!! Excellent amenities (complimentary shuttle from the base of the hill to the hotel, AMAZING buffet breakfast, pool/hot tub, VIEWS, steps away from the hiking trails connecting each village, pleasant and helpful staff, etc). Our room was small but had everything we needed, including good air conditioning to help us cool off after a long day hiking. Needless to say, my partner and I really enjoyed our stay here and will be looking at staying here again next time we visit Cinque Terre!

Google
What a terrific hotel with best location in my view in Cinque Terre. The staff were impeccable (customer focused, knowledgeable, most helpful and pleasant). Our room with a terrace overlooking the sea and the town of Monterosso was perfect. The breakfast was over the top. Last, the hotel location has immediate access to the Blue Trail and very convenient. Sorry, one more. The free mini car ride from the town to the hotel and back was great.

Yes, yes, it's up a steep hill but the brief ascent takes you to another world. We arrived in town via train but a quick call to the hotel informed us that if we got a taxi up the hill, the hotel covers the modest cost. For the balance of our trip, the hotel's vehicle quickly got us up or down the steep hill. Or, walk it for more views & additional calorie-burn. Use caution on this narrow drive. Our room (305) was fine, with a stunning terrace view. The breakfast was all we could have asked for. Dinner in the dining room was a bit "fancy" for me but delicious. The pool was stunning. Staff were uniformly gracious & helpful. Our early departure was before breakfast service but they provided us with a packed lunch. Very thoughtful.

The best hotel I’ve stayed in Italy! Stunning views, amazing service & amenities, couldn’t ask for a better stay for during our honeymoon. We got there a few hours early and the room was ready when we arrived. Shuttle service was a god sent. The staff is friendly and cleaned our rooms thoroughly each day. The pool and hot tub overlooking the water is amazing. Just book your stay, don’t even question it!

Google
was really looking forward to staying at this hotel because of its beautiful swimming pool. Unfortunately, we stayed just one night, and the pool was closed. This was very disappointing, as using the pool was the main reason I chose this hotel, especially since I wanted to celebrate my late birthday by relaxing there. If guests can’t use the key facilities, it makes it hard to justify choosing the hotel in the first place. In the room, I also noticed there was no list of phone numbers to reach reception or other services, which was inconvenient. On the positive side, the staff were polite, the room was clean, and the view was lovely—especially if you book a junior suite in a good location. The hotel is a bit hard to reach, but they do offer a pick-up and drop-off service, which is helpful. Breakfast was good, and the restaurant is really nice—I definitely recommend trying it. Overall, while the hotel has some great qualities and good service, the closure of the pool and lack of basic room information affected our experience significantly.

Google
The hotel is a “little tired” but the location and view is awesome and that is why you come to this part of the world. |The dining room staff are excellent. |The hotel will ferry customers up and down the steep driveway with a smile. It is not an inconvenience. |Stayed 4 nights. You MUST get a room with a view of the ocean.

Amazing location with beautiful ocean views!! Room was spacious and comfortable. Pool area was amazing and food and drinks at the pool bar were very good with exceptional views. Staff was also extremely friendly and helpful. The short hike up the hill was worth it and definitely the best place to stay in Monterosso.

Yelp
This review is for the hotel restaurant La Terrazza, which has a beautiful view of the historical side of Monterosso. We didn't have reservations in advance and were thrilled to secure some the day of. We got seated by a closed window and they even opened it for us so we could enjoy the view and evening air. Service was spectacular, and they were particularly attentive to gluten-free. I really enjoyed the little gf egg bites complimentary app they brought out. The husband and I each had a pasta dish we found to just be ok but not super flavorful. We shared the second course of steak with a few fried potato wedges and condensed veggies, and we found it to be the same flavor-wise. The steak temp was cooked perfectly though. That's all we had room for as we are just not accustomed to the Italian multi-course meal! We loved the view and the service and would definitely return and just try something else on the menu.

Yelp
Great location and service. If you are around, you need to stay here. Garden view suite is amazing.

Yelp
The hotel screwed up the reservation. We were scheduled for 3 nights, but they only had a room for the first night and last night. First impression was that it looked like a nice hotel. They expected us to stay the 1st night, move my things and stay at another hotel the 2nd night and then come back for the 3rd night. We selected this hotel to be on the beach. The hotel they put us up at was me nutes away from the beach. We will not return.

Yelp
Great service, great breakfast, and clean facilities. I would stay here again with adult friends. If you're with older people or young kids I wouldn't because of the hill you have to walk up. They do have readily available taxis to take you up and down the hill but it may be annoying if you're planning to go in and out to the main square. I took one star off because the rooms are not very sound proof and I could hear every person walking by. I'd advise staying towards the end of the hall instead of elevator.

Yelp
Since I couldn't make it to the Amalfi coast this summer, friends from Firenze recommended Cinque Terre as an alternate coastline, so I did some research and I found Hotel Porto Roca in Monterosso. It is a luxurious hotel, and I read a ton of reviews that suggested springing for the upgraded room with a view of the sea, and I am so glad I followed that advice. I had one of the most beautiful vistas of my lifetime all from this tiny balcony on a cliffside hotel. I spent two days relaxing by the infinity pool drinking Aperol spritzes, eating at their restaurant, and swimming in the Ligurian sea. It was a super restorative way to spend time during a heatwave, and I would absolutely go back to this hotel. They speak many languages at the hotel, and most patrons seemed American, Dutch, or British. Check out my photos because words cannot accurately express just how majestic the bay is--if you've been to Maui, Hawaii, it is sort of like that! Their restaurant and poolside bar are also really decent, with great servers. Ps: there are more benefits and less clerical issues when you book directly from hotel websites in Italy. This hotel specifically offered 20% off for using their website to book. Pps: there are no public cars or parking lots in this town. You get off the train and BOOM your at the coastline! The hotel offers a shuttle up and down the cliff or you can hike it, but it's steep. Monterosso is freaking gorgeous

Yelp
Absolutely fantastic restaurant location, dinner & service. Strongly recommend visiting.

Yelp
I can't say enough about this hotel. We are extremely well traveled so my review has some merit behind it. We stayed here only for 2 nights but this is our 3rd stay. The staff is beyond friendly and extremely helpful when asked. It is perched on a BIG hill and yes you have to go up and down the hill but for those of you who don't like to hike it, they will happily take you down and up - there's a phone to call at the bottom. Without its position on the top of this huge hill, you'd never have the view. The view - incredible!! We had 2 rooms with balconies and an ocean view. I would suggest only having an ocean view . The pool is wonderful - perched at the end of the property overlooking the ocean. You can also watch the hikers taking off to do the Cinque Terra Hike - highly recommend that you hike all the towns. ( wear the right shoes, lots of water in backpack and go EARLY - you can do it!!!) they have a private gate to start the hike right from their property. The rooms - extremely clean and decorated nicely. Some might say a bit old school but it is completely right for this hotel!! The bathroom towels are fabulously soft. Breakfast has a huge variety and the staff is very nice. Price - we are from Southern California so it's extremely fair priced. A perfect place to stay and experience Cinque Terra for sure!!! Also if you come by train just ring them up at they'll send a cab at no cost right away

Yelp
We came for the view while a lunch break from our tour booked by Viator highly recommended to use. Cinque Terre Day Trip from Milan (2872ZV13) On 09/05/2016 Central Milan Largo Cairoli 18, Milan Tour departs from bus stop in Zani Viaggi - Milan Visitor Center, Largo Cairoli 18, corner via Cusani, Milano (M1 Cairoli) Important Information Your local contact is Zani Viaggi on +39 02 867 131. The view as you will see from pictures was spectacular, it was quite a hike but worth it. Once we arrived at the top we sat in the restaraunt with a view that was worth a million dollars. The food was excellent we started with a carpaccio salad, then seafood pasta and to finish Mediterranean Sea Bass which was fresh and excellent. The service was friendly and very timely plus the price was right for the location. Restaraunt in the lower part had better prices but no view and very crowded. We actually were eating alone until another party came just before we finished our Late Lunch! Highly recommend this experience.

Yelp
Great service. Our 3rd stay on our anniversary. Very polite and responsive staff, new pool and hot tub. Remodeled rooms. Incredible views from this cliff top hot

Yelp
I'm specifically reviewing the cabin at this hotel, as that is where my newbie husband and I stayed for our visit. It was beautiful. It's private, intimate, unbelievable views, a short hike to the breakfast bar, and has its own private access to a ping pong table! The only reason I'm giving it 4 instead of 5 stars is because it advertised that it was 100% secluded, but our window opened above the private resident tanning deck for hotel guests. People couldn't see into our room but we could hear them all pretty clearly which was just a little disappointing. But of course, I'm being spoiled. The stay was INCREDIBLE. We're also literally a matter of steps from where the Vernazza hike begins. We enjoyed the hike, which only took about 2 hours to walk, if I remember correctly, but we would encourage people to BRING WATER. We stupidly didn't think this hike would be as strenuous as it was and were underprepared. It's one of the most beautiful ways to experience Cinque Terre, but sadly, we've heard since our stay the hurricane wiped out Vernazza. Check with the hotel concierge (English was excellently spoken) to see what they recommend.

Yelp
While we didn't stay at the hotel, we visited the restaurant for dinner one night, hoping for an upscale evening of classic Italian dining. Instead, we found ourselves unpleasantly surprised by a wide array of meals that were unsatisfying and incorrectly prepared. As a group of 6, we had the chance to try many of the things on the menu and everyone seemed to find issue with their dish. My sister, who ordered a medium rare steak and potato dish came out with underdone potatoes and 3 pieces of steak, all of varying donenesses, and only one as requested. I ordered seafood dishes (octopus and shrimp) for both appetizer and meal, and both came out chewy and over cooked. As appetizer, I ordered the octopus salad, a chefs special, which seemed to be a thrown together dish of anything in the kitchen as none of the flavors in the dish made any sense together. Finally, my mother, who ordered lamb. Was surprised to find her preferred choice to be a lacking portion- especially for the price- and an- again- confusing plating, as it was set in a bed of beef gravy and complemented by an unsweetened, palette confusing berry compote. The best part of this restaurant was the view, which is obviously something you can't beat, and the best part of the meal was the local wine, but these did not make the meal worth it, especially for the price.

Yelp
Fabulous Hotel - best that we saw in all of the towns. Incredible setting & views - definitely get a view room! We had suite #204 & it was very comfortable - foyer, walk-in closet, living room with table, sofa, chair & credenza with mini-bar & bar. Nice-sized bedroom with another built in desk/vanity/credenza. Big bath with double sinks, tons of counter space & one of the best showers - 2 handhelds & 1 overhead (in bath) ever. I've found most Italian stand alone showers have nowhere but the floor for your soap, shampoo, etc., so really appreciated this layout. Big balcony with 2 loungers & 2 chairs. Could have used a small table. Decor is a bit dated, but not bad. Lovely wrap-around ocean view restaurant with very gracious waiters and Maitre d'hotel. Breakfasts are ok to good - but I was surprised at an up-charge for individually cooked eggs or fresh squeezed orange juice at these room prices, and the fruit selection is really weak. Best part of all was the pool - absolutely gorgeous infinity edge and so serene in loungers below it. Front desk staff were very gracious with our constant restaurant reservations & change requests ;-). It is a healthy walk up to the hotel, but needed to burn off all of that delicious pasta and gelato! Monterosso is a great place to base - decent sized town, lots of restaurants and easy to get to everything.

Yelp
monterosso al mare is the birthplace of pesto. when visiting italy, you must go there. along the cinque terre, the finest place to stay is the hotel porto roca. it is a castle, on the waterfront, up a steep, narrow drive, close to the train station. ask for a room with a view. walls of rock are not much fun to look at. the food, staff, and accommodations here are fantastic. buy wine in town. it is cheaper than water, and much better, according to my excellent wife. the view and weather is similar to monterey bay. tip well, try to say some italian words and phrases, snack often, and enjoy the pesto, the train rides, hikes, people, absence of vehicles, and plentiful good music. the cross from the nearby monastery is lit up at night, and appears to float. pretty cool. dress in black, wear good shoes. avoid jeans/fanny packs/tennis shoes, loud or abrasive language and/or behavior, pointing. everything is within walking distance. it is all up hill, but worth the walk. try walking the cinque terre.

Mahfam M.

Yelp
The hotel is in a very nice location though you need to hike each time you want to go to the hotel from town. The staffs are very unprofessional. They hardly speak English and are very rude.

Robert D.

Yelp
Had drinks and dinner; food great, view great ; head waiter disingenuous, misogynist ass. . He was so rude we debated getting up and walking out . Resisted chewing him out.
