Montreal's Food and Drink Scene Is Calling

"An iconic Art Deco dining room dating to 1931, perched on the ninth floor of the former Eaton shopping center, has been designated a cultural monument and is preparing for a carefully staged rebirth this spring; celebrated in its era as one of the most beautiful restaurants in the city, the reopening aims to restore its historic elegance and culinary legacy." - Dobrina Zhekova

Dining at Le 9e was an unforgettable experience—an exquisite blend of history, hospitality, and amazing cuisine. The ambiance and the view are breathtaking… Original Art Deco details of the building beautifully preserved, giving you this feeling of being on a luxury ocean liner. The hosts were above professional —warm and attentive, knowledgeable about the menu and ingredient’s (host who served us oysters seemed to know every single one of them by name :)) . As for the food—simply exceptional. Balanced, flavorful, beautifully served. This place is an absolute gem. Would recommend a hundred times. Can’t wait to return!

Cannot recommend this spot enough. An ENTIRELY underrated experience boasting amazing cocktails, including the best espresso martini I’ve had in memory. As a huge foodie I usually have at least one critique to give after a night out, but truly cannot award enough praise here. Jonathan and Chloe working the bar were so attentive and kind, like old friends; So personable and informative, while still professional. There’s plenty of history at Île de France and the lovely jazz soundtrack pushes that narrative. Be sure to ask the staff about the fascinating 100 year history and check out the hidden ballroom on your way out. If you’re looking for a perfect date night out accompanied by a memorable view of the citys’ lights, you’ll find it here on the 9th floor!! Cheers🥂

We attended a surprise party in a private room of this lovely art deco style restaurant. We were a group of approximately 30 people (Four tables). We were served by Clara and Bobbie- very good service with some expected delays given the size of our group. They are sweethearts! The Prosecco we started with was cold and went down well. There was plate of melon and a basket of croissant on each table. I did not love the croissant. However, other people did. The toast with mushrooms and a poached egg was creamy and delicious although I found the toast difficult to cut through. I tried my daughter’s pancake, and also found it difficult to cut, and not particularly tasty. The white chocolate dome for dessert was particularly yummy. The restaurant itself has been lovingly restored and is beautiful to see.

The place is beautiful, and our server graciously took us on a quick tour and explained the history of that room. Food was pretty good, but not memorable and overpriced. I think one mainly goes for its location and ambiance.

I went for brunch with 2 friends. Super cute pastry cart they roll over at the begging to start breakfast. The ambiance is super nice. The chocolate babka was to die for. I ordered the mushroom ricotta tartine and it was one of the best brunches I have had. 10/10 will be coming for dinner soon.

A Delightful Lunch Spot with Timeless Charm. I recently had the pleasure of dining here for lunch with coworkers, and it was an experience worth sharing. As a first-time visitor, I was immediately struck by the restaurant’s beautiful Art Deco decor, which creates a warm and elegant atmosphere. The attention to detail in the design makes the space feel both inviting and timeless. The service was excellent, attentive, professional, and welcoming. From the moment we arrived, the staff ensured that everything ran smoothly, making the meal even more enjoyable. The food was delicious. Each dish was well-prepared, flavorful, and thoughtfully presented. Whether you’re there for a business lunch or a relaxed meal with friends, the menu offers a great selection that showcases quality ingredients and classic flavors. Overall, Île de France le 9e is a fantastic spot for a refined yet comfortable dining experience. I’ll definitely be returning!

Went for dinner here. Very impressed with the decor, felt like I was in a movie back in the 40's. Service never had service like this before. never mind 5star...10star. Some food was amazing, some was good. We had a tasting menu called Top Gun, next time I will order off the menu. Would I go back, yes.

The positives: beautiful atmosphere, pretty presentation of the dishes, all employees are polite and smiling and have a good background music. The fries were good The negatives: For the food, the special of the day(white asparagus) was 23$ for 2 undercooked spears that were served in a tasteless sauce. Salt and pepper were not on the dish or the table and so we had to chase and wait for a waiter to bring small amounts. The battered cod had too much batter which hid the flavor of the fish. The service was slow, while the waiter shows about 30 seconds after we got our dish, we don't see him until 10 minutes after everyone's dish is finished. They did not refill the water unless we asked and we waited a long time with our coats on hoping to get to pay and leave.
